Thank you. Very nice video. What was nice is you actually showed your completed prodject in the pond. Most You-tubers dont. Very well put together. Thanks again and God Bless 🙏
They definitely make a difference. Nice video, sir! I made mine basically out of trash. I need to get a video made with them on the water yet, though. ✌️
Joel, you have done a great job on a kayak that don't have a strait flat surface anywhere. I know, I have one too. LOL You are doing a great job, but don't stop. Lets see some more creativity. Good lick on your channel.
Thanks for posting this great video:) The only thing I noticed is that had you gone further down with your drop it would increase the stability. I understand where you were coming from with your logic of keeping them up so they were at water level, however during the standing test rocking side to side you could see that the floats lifted almost completely out of the water, whereas had you gone as deep as the bottom of the kayak it wouldve further improved the stability by the flotation being further in the water:) Keep up the good work:)
You are right. The wider the span the better stability and the buoyancy of both buoys does not sharply decrease due to their proximity to the center weight of the boat, just like the wingspan of an eagle. If its wingspan is short, it cannot glide as good.
After the fact but the pressure on the stabilizers from bouncing in the water will bust out the screws on the mounting bracket. It’s only plastic. He does not have hull access so his only other option would be using well nuts to secure the brackets. Then he could mount them deeper in the water.
@@bfrauen1266 Not yet, I need a battery to use as a counterweight on the other side. In the mean time, I've got a boost surfing motorized fin for short distances.
You smart dude!! Your genius idea, solved a big problem for me. Im doing the same type of project and was stuck on how to mount the fender. Originally, I wanted to use 1/2" pvc but it does not fit thru fender holes. I was ready to drill out holes bigger, or melt somehow....lol Then I went to Lowes twice and was trying to rig it up with sprinkler size parts.
Nice setup. I think I'll have to build something similar with my Pelican. I'm a big guy so I might have the bumpers a little more low the. You have yours so they stabilize faster. But I love the setup. Great video. I appreciate it 🙏🏼
Two things that I noticed that may cause you problems. Number one is that the stabilizer's are running parallel to the sides of the kayak and this may lead to tracking problems on the water. The second thing is to do with the sweep of your paddle. I would shorten the front and lengthen the rear bars attached to your floatation devices. That will allow you to get more sweep with your paddle. I hope these suggestions help.
thanks for staying with this project and giving me so many good ideas. You're a hard working guy (carpenter if I don't miss my guess, which I have many times before) with the bug for sure! I mainly explore, swim and dive so I think the existing (deeply inset, about 45 degree angle) rod holders on my Pelican sit-on top are still my go to starting point. Are there any reasons, beyond conserving the rod holders, that I should not use them, given the correct angle of connecting joints?
I have the exact same kayak and plan to do the same build. I think I will make the length for the down angle for pontoons a little longer. I think if the pontoons were in the water more it would be more stable.
I like this but I am wondering if they could be wider apart from the the kayak and also the floats larger in diameter say 6-8 inches in size and places like you have them in the rear on the kayak? I have an idea but not sure if it would work and I love working with PVC as a a sturdy material I know it makes great survival bows and hunting bows and am thinking on this. Please let me know what you think.
Hey Joel... I've done the same thing years and years ago . Looks nice but I think you're going to need much more flotation. Will be watching to see how it does for you. Nice video. Yep, needs to be the length of your Kayak and on one side only. Just saying because I did the same thing and even welded mine... Mine was a mess but that was because I had no welding skills. Ended up sinking in Green River reservoir. lol... The year they dammed it.
Have the exact same kayak- I think I’m going to try using a larger pipe going across the kayak and then slide a smaller one in so that I can drill a hole and put in a pin for easy removal for hauling. Does your set up interfere with hauling in back of a pick up? Thanks for posting!
Awsome job bro..Going to do mine the same way. Little different but same materials. Bought the pelican catch 100, with the 2.5 motor, feels like it wants to tip. I only weigh 145lbs, thanks for the vid. Be safe..
I have the same exact sundolphin it is crazy unstable so I’m sure anything would help. I was out on the river with mine last week a small baby wake came by and I almost started swimming with the fishes
Can you give dimensions as to where you place the stabilizers in regard to the seat position so it doesn't interfere with paddling. Also using 4 in schedule 40 with end caps make nice pontoons as you can adjust length and position before you glue up. Thanks for your guidance.
Add a 4-way connector at each rod holder plus suitable lengths to attach the assembly to the kayak and create rod holders . With PVC you can create pretty much anything you want.
@@unlimited-projects2993 good looking out on the design i much rather spend an extra 20 to 50 $ to make this one rather than the inflatable ones . im going to put a union in the middle so i can remove them when needed. i also have the kayak that i can reach inside so i really need these. going to use washers so the screws don't rip out of the thin plastic. also i will put the floats level with the bottom of the boat.
I like your idea its the simplest yet looks very stable. I carry my kayak on my suv. Is there a quick release system that I can use instead of the permanent clamp?
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Will want to remove mine also so I'm thinking of using a coupler on both ends of main beam and securing the floats then by some sort of clip for when on the water.
Did you put the bottom of the outriggers level with the water line? I'm trying to decide where the bottom of my bumpers should be. My Dad thinks they should be all the way down where they are flat on the ground with an empty kayak on land. I'm just not sure where to put them yet. Rip'n Lips from Amarillo Texas!
HI there. I really like your outrigger with the rod holders at the back. Great idea! I was wondering if the stability level might go up if the floats were a bit deeper in the water? Can you check you audio level. I had to have full volume when you were outside and then wind it down when you went inside. The volume uncreated freaked me out.
@@davids1924 I tried them out today for the first time and they worked amazing! The only thing different I had to do was put a screw in the pipe strap into the PVC to keep them from turning when the drag caught them.
Is there anything you would change I'm doing the same but I'm wanting to you the 2-1" fishing pole holders to mount the stabilizers and add 3 holders for fishing rods on it
Having the journey 10ss my plan is to slide the outrigger frame into the factory rod holders. Fastening that down once I'm on the water is going to be another challenge
Good set up but your floats are too small. Once they are submerged they offer no more float. You need something that is a lot wider at the top so the deeper it goes the more float it creates.

The best ive seen in homemade setup. Spray foam inside PVC an idea for extra sturdiness. Maybe not so important.
Nice job!
I haven’t thought about that but that’s a good idea.

Great setup. I'm thinking make it a bit wider, and make a transom off on one side to mount a trolling motor.
You ever do that? Im currently trying to design an outrigger that has a transom mount

Should the stabilizers run perpendicular? I think that would just slow it down and make it harder to paddle.
Really nice job. Once you paint it the color of the kayak, gonna be awesome.
love this boat easy to move, very stable , comfortable after 2 hours of fishing
Thank you Joel. Very good explanation.

Tony Barnes there is another guy who uses rod holders to mount is good
I used a 5 ft. piece a cross, making it even more stable. I love It!
Can you give us a list of what you used so i can replicate it please
Great idea and great job! Thanks!!

I think I'm going to try the same thing. I also have the same kayak and it is very unstable

Appreciate you bro! I’ve dumped my yak twice now. It’s gettin old. 😂
Should use spray foam in those tubes to make them more rugged less likely to snap them off.
Brilliant idea, thanks bro

I wonder if you could use the original pole holders to make the whole stabilization system removable?
You can I didn’t because I wanted more rode holders

Looks like you put screws through the 2 hole straps into the pipe. I have the same kayak, thinking about doing a similar rig.
have you thought about 1/2 galvinized threaded gas pipe off the shelf?
How are outriggers holding up? I like your design. Curious if there is anything you would change?
They are holding up great I can stand and it and I don’t think I would change anything

What kind of screws were used to Secure it to the kayak?

This is pretty cool! I'm gonna see if I do something on mine the same way. Great job man! By the way are they still hanging on for you?
Yes they are and they work great
Thank you man thas what i need
What size boat fenders did you use? G-1: 3.5X 12.8 in., G-2: 4.5x15.5 in., G-3:5.5x19in. I have a 12 ft kayak.
The 19” ones
hey bro, we all have questions. no answers. the U brackets do not fit with the bungee cord holder next to the rod holders.
I got my brackets at ace hardware.
Thanks!
Hi there
What size of fender
I like this design, but I need to figure out a way to make it easily removable, so I can still load the kayak on top of the car.

Nice!
Nice dude
Hi bro, nice stabilizer. Is it possible you to give me the PVC diameters, PVC Elbow and PVC Fender diameters. Thank you so much
Yes sir, all of the PVC pipe and elbows and T’s are 1 1/2” and the U shape clamp is a 1 3/4”
Thank you so much Joel
Can you stand on it in open water?
Yes I can
where did you get the floats?
You can get them at Walmart or any boating store.
No that can double for other mods as well
what size floaters did you get??
The biggest ones the Walmart had
What’s the name of the song?
Good set up but your floats are too small. Once they are submerged they offer no more float. You need something that is a lot wider at the top so the deeper it goes the more float it creates.
How did it work out?
It worked wonderful I will never take it off.
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccceeee ..im doin this right now
Thanks
I just so happened to get the same kayak a couple of months ago.
great idea. appreciate it #JoelMiller
tq....good tips bro
