Gideon Waxfarb Haven't heard of Ridge Racer 4? that's probably the best arcade racing game on the PS1. And the first Ridge Racer is severely underrated considering how much it did for the genre.
Went to the American School in Japan while growing up. He was taught English there while he was very young. Of course it is perfect. Kaz is God, of course...
Screw the audience, Ridge Racer is awesome! AND it actually has a very important part in PlayStation history: Being a launch title in Japan, it earned itself the very first serial number of any PlayStation game (SLPS-00001), so you can argue it's the very first PlayStaion game! Same thing in Europe (SCES-00001). Only the US gave that number to Air Combat, because you know, the US is all about guns... whatever...
Psp was a brand new hardware during this presentation, people expecting that new hardware to showcase new games, to show it's full capabilities, not a freakin games from 90's. It's like if nintendo announced switch back in the day, but it only showed the machine play zelda nes. It leaves wrong impression. Audience knowledge/perception about Ridge Racer has nothing to do with this, lmao.
The first PlayStation game could have been Tekken though. While it was released after Ace Combat, the arcade machine it ran on had PlayStation hardware, and it was the first game developed with that hardware and working together with the sony people. The thing is, both are Namco games. Namco was a big part of the PS1's success
@@paperclip9558 It was actually to showcase the psp's capability to run ps1 games. Nintendo also showcased Super Mario 64 on the DS in e3 2004. Originally released in 1996 on the Nintendo 64. People wouldn't mind having their old favorites to be playable on the go. Of course it isn't something that would done these days, yet there is a growing demand for backwards compatibility. Back then, running ps1 games in your palm was amazing for its time. I would've freaked out to see ridge racer running on such a small device, but I guess the audience got bored, it was an interesting yet dull presentation. Also to add; the PSP really was aimed for a teen and 18-30 target demographic. Most of them have had fond memories of playing on their original Playstation and this was again, a way to get them excited.
In fact, every PlayStation console in Japan from the PS1 to Vita had Ridge Racer as a lunch title with the first serial number for the game in Japan for each console. This was basically broken with the PS4 where for the first time a PlayStation console launched without Ridge Racer (and still hasn’t received one today.
