I'm downsizing for retirement and having a house built in Okotoks right now. I've done some research and my property taxes, utilities and insurance will be much lower. It's a great town with all the amenities that Calgary has. Calgary is getting too big too fast. It's probably not politically correct to say this, but my neighborhood is turning into Mogadishu. I can remember when Calgary had a population of only 400,000 people.

Diamond valley is so pretty love to drive around that area!
Be careful considering moving to these little towns tho, there is a 80% chance you will be driving into Calgary everyday for work and for entertainment, yes these towns have some amenities but unless you like being stuck in a town of 5000 people for the rest of your life than you should reconsider moving there.

Fair points, but in the 10 years that will change. Everything has changed. All these small towns will be urban centres in the next 10 years. The 500k DV home will be double in the next decade. The growth in AB is unprecedented and that will not change. BC is in serious trouble because everyone is moving out. Ontario will survive because of manufacturing. But AB is going to overtake BC very soon

Gross! I don’t want to see these rural farming communities turn into Cochrane. Not everywhere should turn into gross cities. There aren’t jobs there to sustain a city it’s not like Cochrane where you are relatively close enough to Calgary you can drive to work to Calgary. Strathmore perhaps the rest no. I fell sorry for the rural communities being gobbled up by investors turning out a bunch of over priced condos and townhomes and ruining their demographic. Rural areas don’t deserve being turned into stupid cities. Let them continue their way of life.

I feel so sorry for these farming communities that are going to be hit with a bunch of city folk because of over investment in real estate…it’s not going to work out well for these little communities having city people moving there that have zero connection to country living…

Not sure that's who would be attracted to live here. People I know moving to these areas are from or love small towns. 'City Folks' aren't just going to flock here and wreck it in my opinion. -Jared

Outside of local shops, many are bedroom communities. High river and Strathmore would have the most options out of the five.
