- Dr. Martens Presents: Women in Punk, LA with
The raw nature of the Los Angeles punk scene from the 70s and 80s has taken hold of the younger generation. Especially among younger minority women, who have no tolerance for racist, sexist boys. Their DIY ability to organize and implement change within their communities is as punk as it gets.

Wow. What an excellent documentary. So proud our band Backstage Pass was included! (I’m Spock, the bass player). And, now I’ve got 2 great bands to add to my playlist. Thanks so much.
Congrats!
Can't wait for the Linda Lindas to blow up.Cool kids with talent and Great songs.Rooting for them.
Me too.
I kept wondering why there were so many close shots of feet until I realised this was product placement (for the shoes, not the feet)!
Is that punk or just feminist advertisement 😂😂
I need to find a good list of girl-fronted punk bands. I know a few of the more obvious ones. But, whenever I dive into the different punk-rock scenes around the country and more broadly the world looking for new punk bands I pretty much only get bands with only men in them.
I've especially been on a binge of South Korean punk lately because bands like Crying Nut are just so interesting, but none of the bands I've heard about from there have women in them...
Also cool to see the Linda Lindas are still kicking ass out there. They're headed places. Love their band's name too since I love The Blue Hearts.
Don't know if you already know these bands, but I love Death Valley Girls and the Coathangers. And recently a number of great female punk bands have popped up in the UK: cheerbleederz, Peaness (most puntastic band name ever) and BERRIES. Also, the Beths from New Zealand are a great punk pop band.
Well my favorite band is disbanding, but if you’re willing to listen to another language I recommend them. BiSH
The Linda Linda's RULE
🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Wow, maravilloso y extraordinario video.
Noviembre 2021. I love the linda lindas. I love.
I loved this, I love punk music.
Pity Lorna Doom(the Germs) isn't still around to speak for herself. She was the definitive LA punk godmother.
These women are my tribe. I still wear docs and still play bass in bands and I’m 60.
Punk is always in good hands with the next generations. Chicks or dudes and everyone in between...61 and still have my doc's on hand. Great mini doc-)
This is so awesome on so many levels! Love it 🤘🏻
Right!
Cool young punk rock band who have something to say.
Especially girls.
So good to see.
Thi is really awesome to see thanks so much for posting this
Loved this!
This is SO encouraging 💜🤘💜🤘💜
I think that if I saw a member of Hole or X at my show, I would start to cry
This is amazing! Thanks!!!
🎸Love this! Nath (ex-guitarplayer Bambix)
OUTSTANDING
❤
I've always thought of punk as a place for everyone. People before power
i aplogize
that was uncalled for
please play my backyard birthday bash
I’ll consider it
Punk is NOT a shoe commercial!!!!
Is a genre that is by definition built for the downtrodden and minorities who feel out of place
Whatever your race Creed gender or sexual preference
If you feel to be a minority wherever you are............
The Linda Lindas aren’t punk. They’re spoiled rich kids who wanted to start a band. The guitarist is the daughter of a major producer for epitaph records. Guess who signed the Linda lindas… they don’t know what it means to struggle in clubs and put your time in. Can people stop praising a very mediocre band. Seriously there’s way better out there with actual talent.
I'm calling industry plants. For their age Linda Lindas are great. I was awful at that age.... that being said the way every single company is giving them a spotlight is not natural. They are good for their age, but they would be laughed off the stage if they were 20. It is a shame that no one will be supporting these girls when they are older and putting out great music. Either that or they won't improve because everyone is telling them they are great now.
One of them is (I think) the niece of one of the members of Reel Big Fish, so they had an easy way into the industry.
Maybe you should look up how the Donnas formed.
Looking at how they formed, it was happenstance. Going “viral” is luck / internet availability and yes music industry is good at taking a “thing” and running with it. That they were based in Los Angeles area helped. I saw several great all girl bands in Japan, South Korea and Philippines in 1980-90s that never got beyond local region.
@@mlmn3080yeah but they actually rocked haha and had a bunch of albums Linda’s Linda’s only have a lame ass protest song called racist sexist boy out of all the shit just because that’s what’s tending right now racism and sexism 😂
i think now its safe to say punk's dead
"Nazi punks, fuck off!"
Especially when Punk becomes a shoe commercial...
blm
in theory this is supercool my concern is the Talmud says if a man listens to a woman sing he may become overly sexually excited
The Linda Linda’s wrote a song about a boy like you.
@@johnnyc.31 no i'm not racist or sexist
@@gregdahlen4375 that’s what all the racists and sexists say
@@poochy Idk. I'd guess there are racists and sexists who totally admit they are.
if this is punk then its definitely dead lol
What a load of woke tripe.
Beats the alternative, anyway. Was that an unintentional pun?
Hey, edge lord, maybe you missed the memo: "Nazi punks, fuck off!"
Go back to sleep, fool
