@@icequeen917 they were more of a 90s post-hardcore thing, but really good. Noisy and chaotic. Fred is an awesome drummer and the singer played congas so it's really dense, percussion-wise. If you search "Trenchmouth band" here you should be able to find some live clips

Sudeikis is basically that guy who went to one hardcore punk show when he was in high school in the '80s & never got another chance to go to another. In other words, Sudeikis is playing me. I feel so seen.

You realize punk rock requires very little skill playing instruments. Doyle, the guitarist for the misfits join the band when he had only been playing guitar for like 3 months. Punk isn't that hard to do lol

and the sad thing is, this was probably thought of by Lorne Michaels as a throwaway sketch they had to fight to keep in the show. Some of the best sketches in SNL history are the ones they put on in the last 15 minutes because it's a gamble. The Will Forte/Sudekis NASA potato chip sketch comes to mind.
Really miss the days of Crisis of Conformity. Their raw, unapologetic sound defined an era and nothing today quite compares. Those were the true golden days of punk. 🎸🔥
I used to be the bodyguard for Henry Rollins. One night I found him in his dressing room crying uncontrollably. I asked him what was wrong, and what he said to me I will never forget. "Crisis of Conformity were the best to ever do it." Goddammit, he was right.
Armisen used to be in a band called Trenchmouth and that's why he's able to do such an on-target portrayal of early 80s DC hardcore punk show energy. The performance is authentic as fuck, the comedy stems entirely from doing it at a wedding reception.
Went very West Coast with this. Armisen is channeling Jello Biafra's physicality while the early verses were very Dead Kennedys. Then a great Suicidal Tendencies breakdown, and into the chant. Fantastic.
I saw them at 688 in Atlanta back in '84. All I remember was right after they played "Scandalous Youth" someone threw a beer at their singer and he beat the shit out of the guy who threw it. Called the show early but I snuck around back and shared a cigarette with the drummer, great night all around.
Crisis of Conformity - amazing band. I saw them live at the Trocadero in 1982. I was young at the time but I always remember their raw energy. Amazing to see them back together again.
Most comedy sketches are lucky to pull off one underrated line. I lost count on this one? And Hader tossing his bass pick to Sudekis afterwards was ** chef's kiss ** Absolute classic.
I would love if SNL released a musical almanac with things like this. They could publish it with a vinyl LP and charge like 100 bucks and I'd still buy that bad boy.
@josiecee23 I am actually swiss, so I don't speak english as my native language. We used to call just everything "pogo" - even if it was stagediving (well, maybe not exactly, but close to). Yet, I can actually remember to have read the term "moshpit" for the first time in a MRR fanzine back in 1989 in a letter written by a fan who was ranting about suicidal tendencies' fanbase who would just beat up anybody who'd dare to start a "moshpit" at their gigs. So maybe you're right as grunge started shortly after that ( it was about 90-91 when I first heard that specific seattle sound).
@@lostwojak2554 it was definitely intentional, if you have ever gone to show or to a battle of the bands, someone at some point has no sound from a mic, and its definitely mainly the drummers mic, seeing as how most venues dont expect a singing drummer, even though most bands have them.

One of the most underrated sketches from snl I've seen. I love how sudeikis has the brightest smile on his face and hes just enjoying the music that kills me everytime!
This is one of my ALL-TIME favorite skits and this song plays on repeat in my head and will forever. From Dave Grohl's mic not being on properly to Bill Hader throwing his pick to the father of the groom at the end played by Jason Sudeikis this entire skit is a classic. Timeless funny then, funny now, funny forever. (Mic drop)
I spent 13 years in a touring street punk band. I've played shows in almost every state. I've seen the scene form sea to shining sea, and this is exactly. How. It. Is. 😂 This is great. FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT!
Yet they were meant to be middle aged men, probably born in the late 50's, though Fred Armisen and Dave Grohl were 43 and 41 at the time. Aging rock stars usually settle down and reinvent themselves like David Bowie and Paul Weller did.

I absolutely loved this sketch. My dad’s an old punk rocker-he was an editor at Spin magazine in its early days and still listens to the coolest shit. The funny thing is, he looks like a regular dad 😂. I wish something like this had happened at my wedding!

It’s even better that Dave is involved in this, who has major roots in punk rock. From drumming for the punk band scream, to drumming for a very obviously punk influenced band Nirvana, and then creating the foo fighters- which, depending on the project, you don’t hear the influence as much, but I’d argue it’s still there. I love that punk is involved in such a great rockers discography.
I don't think people in the audience appreciated this sketch...it was really funny! If your a fan of punk or hardcore music ...this sketch is so on the money! Fred Armison was so perfect

I am actually swiss, so I don't speak english as my native language. We used to call just everything "pogo" - even if it was stagediving (well, maybe not exactly, but close to).
Yet, I can actually remember to have read the term "moshpit" for the first time in a MRR fanzine back in 1989 in a letter written by a fan who was ranting about suicidal tendencies' fanbase who would just beat up anybody who'd dare to start a "moshpit" at their gigs. So maybe you're right as grunge started shortly after that ( it was about 90-91 when I first heard that specific seattle sound).

@@lostwojak2554 it was definitely intentional, if you have ever gone to show or to a battle of the bands, someone at some point has no sound from a mic, and its definitely mainly the drummers mic, seeing as how most venues dont expect a singing drummer, even though most bands have them.
I’m gonna say dead battery on a wireless mic. I’ve seen that more often.

This is one of my ALL-TIME favorite skits and this song plays on repeat in my head and will forever. From Dave Grohl's mic not being on properly to Bill Hader throwing his pick to the father of the groom at the end played by Jason Sudeikis this entire skit is a classic. Timeless funny then, funny now, funny forever. (Mic drop)

I absolutely loved this sketch. My dad’s an old punk rocker-he was an editor at Spin magazine in its early days and still listens to the coolest shit. The funny thing is, he looks like a regular dad 😂. I wish something like this had happened at my wedding!

It’s even better that Dave is involved in this, who has major roots in punk rock. From drumming for the punk band scream, to drumming for a very obviously punk influenced band Nirvana, and then creating the foo fighters- which, depending on the project, you don’t hear the influence as much, but I’d argue it’s still there. I love that punk is involved in such a great rockers discography.
