All V8s sound furious but this one sounds psychotic near peak HP... It sounds like the last half of all the lyrics in Postmortem.

The original LT5 was Lotus designed and Mercruiser built. Bore spacing was same as the small block pushrod V8 but everything else was unique to the engine. It really was an incredible engine. Lingenfelter Racing built some custom packages for this engine that would make the hair stand up on the back of your neck as it was heading towards the red line.

My old Ford 289 with minor mods pulls hard to 9500rpm. A running Quad 4? Glad they caught that on video, I haven't seen one run in over 20 years!
The 351 Windsor/Cleveland can pull hard too if it's built right.
@@BIGBLOCK5022006
Windsor for sure can be built right, its just a tall deck 289. Clevelands are great running engines too, but are prone to cracking and have oiling issues at high rpms.
Beat me to it.
Ford has always relied on higher RPMs over compression. That is the reason why Fords have worse mpg but it does give them an advantage in racing however it is causes more wear and tear on the cam and crank. This is why we see Ford using multiple cams on their engines now to reduce damage to the engine.

You missed the GM DZ302 offered in the 69 Z28. It was was a 5.0 pushrod capable of regularly pushing to 9k
As long as you had a scattershield.
Pushrods can rev to 9k but you have to put in a race valvetrain (expensive lightweight strong stuff) to eliminate valve float and things breaking, also adding a dry sump help out a lot, race valvetrain usually can't fit in production small blocks like big pushrods for example (and manufacturers won't put in solid lifters), and dry sump is expensive and rarely shows up in production cars.

Visio, the Taurus SHO V8 was designed by Yamaha and built at the Ford Windsor Ontario engine plant. The original Taurus SHO V6 from the late 80's to mid 90's was also designed by Yamaha.
is this model similar to the crown victoria?
@@fidelcatsro6948 No. The Taurus SHO engine is a different ball game compared to the Ford Modular engine.
Isn't that also the same V8 used in Volvo's XC90 and S80s? If not it's a hell of a coincidence since they're both 60° V8s developed by Yamaha.
The SHO V8 was designed by Ford and based on the Ford Duratec. Yamaha built it though
Brycen Peaden Yeah the V6 is definitely Yamaha I think the V8 was more Fords work and design and Yamahas construction

Yeah, it sure does. Must the the turbo spooling
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKIING!!!!! I WAS INTRESTED WHY I HEARD A HONDA
Americans wanted to build a Honda 😂
just the cam profile i guess because vtec locks one of the valves at low rpm so its probably using 4 valves all the time
The cam profiles in that engine were pretty aggressive. Makes for a lopey idle but great mid-high rpm power.
What about the Boss302 Coyote at 7500 RPM (which I guess the new gt coyote can do)
Before the voodoo the Roadrunner 5.0 as in The Boss was the highest.
Not a mustang fan but those stangs gave me cold chills 😍 nothing beats the sound of American muscle/pony cars
Nice video man. Lots of love for the voodoo, but not much for the Quad 4. The Quad 4, and later Twin Cam, motors, are by far the most powerful N/A 4 cylinder motors GM ever put out. They put the currenct ecotec to shame in both performance and reliability. And if Oldsmobile was allowed to bypass the bean counters of the era, I have no doubt that the Quad 4 would have been pushing 210hp stock n/a, and at least 275hp with a turbo and a few lbs of boost. And its still a motor that holds many records that not even the foreign brands can beat today, including the worlds fastest flying mile in a 4 cylinder powered car.
That last one was epic!
SHO v6 was not produced that long... Just from 1989 till 1995 not 2005. In 96 it switched from a Yamaha v6 to a duratec derived 3.4l 60* v8 where as the prior years were Yamaha designed v6's
79707 was about to leave this same comment. I owned a six cylinder one, I miss that car
Good video mate
From what I've read, the LS7 weighs only 438 lbs, dry, fully dressed. Extremely light for such high output. They tried to re-introduce it for the new Z06, but, new government regulations prevented it from making much extra power. Despite DFI, cam phasing and cylinder deactivation.
Sandy; The chevy LS7 engines are known for dropping valves, get a good warranty if you are going to buy one.
@@daleostrom3613 Actually, I've had one for almost 7 years. I've got nearly 70Kmi on it so far. Uses almost zero oil. Factory ordered it. Been doing oil sampling testing through Blackstone Labs. No wearable materials in the oil so far. Even after 10Kmi oil/filter changes. Seems to've been a major issue from 2008-2010 with heads machined during that period by Linimar Machining in Ontario. The guides were too large in I. D. From what I read, the issue was addressed by Feb of '11.
@ I appreciate your concern. From my research, this issue is mostly with engine heads manufactured from 2008-2010. In Feb of 2011, GM told Linimar Machining to start doing a 100% inspection processed. The defect was valve guides whose interior diameter was too large and non concentric. I've almost 70K miles (including 5 hours of track time) and, so far, alls well. No significant oil consumption. And Blackstone sampling tests show zero wearable metals (including TI) showing up in the oil. In fact, they said my LS7 is wearing less than a 4 cylinder Honda engine doing 3-4Kmi oil/filter changes. One sure sign of looming trouble is high oil consumption as the stem/guides start wearing out quickly. As well as a DTC miss fire code. Blackstone gave me the go ahead to take this next change out to 11K miles. And I just switched from AC Delco to WIX XP oil filters.
Carl Ryan that is only the early version of the Ls7, they fixed the problem after the first model year

There was the zetec engine known in the focus SVT for reving to 7200 rpm and had a torque curve all the way there.
Was it made in the USA though? I thought it was a weird Cosworth modified deal.
I went and looked it up, the Zetec E was never produced in the US, just imported here.

@@raptor1513 There could be some exceptions tho' xd

6:38 I'm actually surprised, first time I see a Mustang on full send and not ending in the ditch 😂
I adore the LS7, 7.0 liters of American fury with 505 hp, and it just loves to rev, even if it is 7000 rpm a simple tune to bring it to 8000 will make it sound amazing and you can supercharge them and push them beyond 700 hp stock because the internals on them are strong and can handle high power, one of my favorite engines
That Taurus sounded badass.
My best friend owned a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang. The factory had a rev limiter on it that started shutting cylinders down at 6150 (+/- 50) RPM's. We disconnected it and would do 8,000 RPM hole shots. I'd speed shift it at about 7.600.
LOVE THE VOODOOOOOO
Good show good quality information love it good to see Ford in top spot go Ford from Australia.
An honorable mention is the 4.6L 32 valve in the 2003-2004 Mach 1s which had a rev limiter at 7250 for the manual cars.
And an awesome sound to boot! Mine pulls hard right up to around 6,700 or so when the computer starts pulling timing. With some valvetrain work they'll happily run 8k+ and the manuals got the forged crank from the Cobra. But the rods are the typical, brittle modular sintered metal garbage and the block itself will start deforming around 800 HP, the old 90s Cobras and Lincoln Mk. 8s got a much stronger block.
@@406Steven I believe it is the camshaft that makes power drop after 5800 rpm, the autos redlined at 6k so despite the extra rev range in the manuals it's not taken advantage of. People take the more aggressive intake cam from the 'A' head 96-98 cobra, which nets about 30whp in the 'C' head Mach1 when degreed, which also bumps the powerband higher in the rev range. Agreed though the valvetrain is very strong, I have forged bottom end with titanium valvesprings, rated for 600-700whp, the block isn't to be trusted past that. I will tell you what though, these cars love nitrous.
@@RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts I thought they kept the rev limit lower because they put the nodular iron crank from the GTs in the autos. The Cobra cam swap is an easy power adder for sure but they're getting harder to find, those who do have them want a pretty penny for them last I looked. The DOHC 4.6s sure do love nitrous and boost, though. With a little extra huff you can really break some hearts.
@@406StevenThat is 100% why it has a lower rev range, I was pointing out that is the same cam profile so regardless of the rev limit difference the peak power is still around 5800. And I agree the cobra cam swaps are getting harder to find since they're not exactly shelf parts, last time I checked they were in the 3-500 dollar range, not bad if you are doing the job yourself but for most people they are likely better off shelling out for a nice cam kit and springs if they are having a shop do it for example.
@@RidinDirtyRollinBurnouts umm coyote!
Love You Visio. So much engine shit I never Heard of
Ford SHO: Let the SHOw begin! Yeah!
Nice video!
I was thinking about swaps lately, but kinda hypothetically. I was thinking about LS but really preferred a 2jz, but the last few days I’ve been noticing how high revving those coyotes or whatevs in some mustangs are. They’ve been sticking out to me the last few days and I think it’s speaking to me lol
Some years ago, a fella devised a way of adapting Hemi cylinder heads to Big Block wedge Chrysler blocks. One of the engines he created was a 383 Hemi that would turn 12500 RPM and hang together just fine.
12,500?? 😨🤤
3:28 I was really impressed that makes me want yfind one if those cars and buy one
If the Yamahas make the cut then the Ford Probe's Mazda KL should to. American car made in Flat Rock Michigan. 7500 rpm V6. That LQ1in the white Lumina sounded just wrong.
First time I rode a V6 Prove I was wondering when the damn thing was going to hit redline...then again up until then I had only driven cars and trucks powered by slow&low revving/HIGH torque engines.
@@GIGABACHI I love winding mine out still

Quad 4 is an amazing engine
Btw my 04 mini redlines at 7400. The engine is Chrysler made so it is American
Jeez, that Ford Voodoo is crazy! I wonder what the reliability factor is? I know the Coyote's are notorious for coming apart at high rpm. especially in stock trim. (usually timing chain failures).😜
No they aren’t 😂 they are known for taking down built corvettes on the stock motor though
Coyotes are the most durable stock engines made in a very long time. A Predator motor can handle 1400 wheel or more reliably with a stock block and crank assembly. Heads and a bigger blower is all that’s needed for some really big power. The Voodoo you just need to replace the head gaskets on models from 2015 to 2018. Those tend to blow. Otherwise the whole Coyote family is unusually strong, even more so than an LS that can’t get to 900 without experiencing reliability issues.
The only captions I can agree with
That Voodoo sound 😍😍😍
How high did the Ford 427 sohc rev and the boss 429?

You forgot the 302 chevy from the Z-28 camaros of the late 60's ('69 i think). With a 3" stroke and a 4" bore and longer rods than the ford variant, it was a very rev happy engine. My father had a friend, that build a home made one. He used a 327 small crank journal block with a 283 crank (same bore and stroke ) and used replacement parts, from the GM parts catalog to build his. I can attest to it pegging 8,000 RPM's, without even trying. This was in the 1970's and was put in a Chevy Vega, it was the fastest car in the county by a long margin. Nobody could beat it, on the track or street. He eventually sold it and the guy paid him to install it, as he had it set up in his car. when asked how it was running, he grabbed the carb arm, rapped it hard and bent the needle on an 8,000 RPM cable drive tach. As far as i knew, every part other than the block and crank, was stock replacement for a Z-28 302. Loved the sound of that engine, will build one one day
Those old Chevy 302s were such rev-happy engines! The Ford Boss 302 and 429 SOHC engines also would have made good mention in this video, 1960s tech making huge power and high RPM.
@@406Steven I agree, any short stroke American V8 would make this list
The Syclone V6 is a high revving engine too, I drove a Ford Transit 350 van with one that it could rev up to 7000 rpm.
The SHO V8: it maybe tiny, but it sounds beefier than the BMW F10 M5
When i heard it in the video i was actually fucking terrafied by the sound it made, wtf kind of small engine makes that sound ?
Right?? I don't know how they do it. It might just be my ultimate favorite engine sound ever. If I'm ever looking for a ~230 hp powerplant and know I won't want to go much higher, it's definitely gonna be one of those 3.4's
I own one. Factory exhaust with a few rust holes in the mufflers. In my honest opinion it sounds best at around 3000-5000 rpm. It is loud as fuck and I love it because you never expect a Taurus to sound like a race car! Lol
My 2012 Boss revs up to 7500 rpms plus and sounds great!
That quad 4 seems like a sexy little unit
GM's DOHC 3.4 V6 was a very rare engine that few people knew about and even fewer ever bought.
The SHO only revved to 7,000 revolutions per minutes? I believe it was more than that lol.
Cool videos
And may I add the 1990 ZR-1 LT5, still holds the 24 hour world speed endurance record at just under 175 mph. It broke the 50 year old record and still holds it for a mass produced production car. A showroom stock engine that was also limited to 70% of wide open throttle. It also still holds the 5000 mile and 5000 km speed records also. Several manufacturers have tried and all failed to break it with actual production cars built and released to the public. Cool stuff. 👍👍🏁
How cant anyone else beat the record? I'm kind of surprised...
That voodoo engine sounded insane.

It's cool to hear a Mustang sound like that. Different, but good
They put unequal length headers on them to try to mimic a typical American V8 burble, otherwise they really do sing like a Ferrari V8. The combination of the two makes for an awesome and very unique sound.
@@406Steven no they didn't the mustang platform just doesn't fit with equal length headers and it couldn't mimic the exhaust pulses of a crossplane. Like you scientifically could never mimic a crossplane with a flat but can get close to a flat with a cross with correct headers.
@@jdrok5026 They are unequal length headers from the factory, which is where it gets its unique sound from. See the article titled "How the Shelby Mustang Got its Roar" and its interview with an actual Ford engineer if you insist on denying that fact.
UnsulliedSpy they dont mimic crossplane cranks that would literally make the flatplane useless
UnsulliedSpy also they said it was a platform issue.
3:29 say good bye to this engine.
Pushing it hard when cold will kill the engine
And what is with 7,000rpm being classed as high revving?
IIGrayfoxII for older American cars it is highest than usual. I mean, my 4.6 sohc mustang cuts off at 6500
@@KODstorm21 Is that a 3 valve? My old 2 valve 4.6 was on the limiter around 6200 or so, my 4 valve is on the limiter around 7200 or so. The only real reason to run them that hard is how tall 5th gear is, with highway pulls you just run 4th until you're out of steam then it's over.
It may not be a production engine but where's ford cammer with its 8000 rpm rev limit.
I honestly kinda prefer the Voodoo without the exhaust system. I like that low rumble.
The LT5,not Lotus with help of Mercury Marine. Can't get parts for it anymore. The V6 SHO,had a manual transmission from the tempo/topaz that never held up
The dealer installed Stage II (465 hp 302 ci) upgrade for the 1969 Z/28 revved to 7200 rpm. Though it has no power at all under 4000 rpm. I have one. Very difficult to drive in the street but hella fun on the track.
