In this video, I explain why this is (in my opinion of course :) the best dust extractor for the average workshop! It is the Record Power Camvac dustextractor!

Video description!
What sets the Record Power Camvac apart from other dust extractors is its multiple motors. You can buy a Record Power Camvac with one, two, or three motors. Because of this, the Camvac creates a lot of air volume to be a good partner for the most demanding woodworking machines and creates enough pressure to handle the small handheld tools. This is one of the reasons I think it is one of the best Dust extractors you can get for the average workshop because you only need one dust extractor for all the equipment in your shop.
The Record Power Camvac does not have a diffuse air outlet. Because of this, it is the perfect dust extractor to build in your workbench! It is a relatively small dust extractor, and most important, because of the one or two air outlets, you can easily distribute the hot air that blows out of the camvac out of the cabinet you build it in.
Sound level
The Camvac is not the quietest dust extractor, but it could worsen with two motors. However, you can easily reduce this level by placing a vacuum hose on the air outlets. This reduces the sounds significantly, and I created a Whispering box that further improves the sound level.
Filtration
The Record Power Camvac had the best filtration in the market and filtered particles to 0.5 microns, where 1 micron is the average standard.

We would definitely like to see the whole vacuum system being set up along with the cost of every component. Congrats on your new working space!
same, and quickly
Fantastic presentation. Your methodical approach to solving small shop problems is brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing your discoveries with us!
I was so impressed with my CamVac that I went back and bought another one, I now have two in my workshop, they are amazing 🤩 great video as always Denise
Thanks Dennis. You really hit the target with this one. Welcome back!
What a dream workshop you have there!!!!!
and the Whispering box??? amazing!!!!!!!
congratulations!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Dennis, good to have you back hope you had a good break. Looking foward to your new videos. Thanks kmdc.
Everything you show is interesting Dennis,I’m very envious of your new workshop.👍👍
Glad you’re back. I hope will be treated to frequent videos now that you’re settled. Between you and Paoson woodworking I have been given great inspiration for my SHOP.
Thanks for the video. Keeping on filming.
I’ve had a two motor cam-vac for about 14 years and think it’s one of the best for a small workshop.
As always great content, you have become one of the top woodworking channels, thank you.
Glad you have returned, great video, dust extraction is very much needed and as you point out loud. Love the whispering box build. I would like to see the build in one of you videos. Thank you for sharing your awesome project with us today, stay safe and have an amazing week. From Henrico County Virginia
As always another fantastic video.your channel is by far my most favorite woodworking channel.
Yes, please do show the set up on your whole system! I just ordered myself a 55L 2 motor version and will be adding your whisper box right away. This has been so helpful, thank you.
Dennis, you have the most stylish workshop ever.
You probably have THE cleanest shop I have ever seen like ever. Unbelievable.
Thanks for the info Dennis on the vac system, I have already seen it @ Baptist but never realised it was so powerful. Enjoy your workshop!!
Your workshop looks amazing Dennis. Thanks for sharing
This is such an important video as i've got the same Record Power Cam Vac and I wanted to get rid of the noise it creates..... Great work and I am a big fan of your advice and work ......
Well done Dennis on your new workshop, it looks fantastic. Love your videos, always very informative. Keep them coming. All the best.
Rondog, Edinburgh Scotland.
Great Shop Denis..... You planned very well. I enjoy your videos and always look forward to your next one.
I’ve missed your very informative videos Dennis. This one is very timely as dust extraction in my small workshop is one of my next projects.
The benches are looking great by the way👍
Thanks for the introduction to CamVac, I can see where this is a great solution for small to medium sized shops, including my own. To have enough power to pull from a jointer or planer is very important without having a giant 7 foot tall two stage system.
Glad you are back!
The workshop is looking amazing, Dennis.
Absolutely love your videos! You're very thorough and I'm very jealous of your new shop (and your old one lol). I never even heard of that Record Power dust extraction but am now researching it. It does look like a great solution for a small shop!
Thank you. I Very much appreciated your comprehensive and real world run through! I will most definitely be looking into this system, as it brings together everything i think should be available, but don't really see much of. Plus, your sound baffle box is quite well done!
New sub just came across your channel a couple days ago. I love your content and thank you for taking the time to put this out here for everyone. You are very straight forward and informative.
Yes, would like to see the entire system and install. Also, costs of your supplies. Thanks for all the videos you do. I love to see how you new work space is progressing. Cheers from Ecuador.
Excellent video Dennis. I’m about to purchase a dust extractor so your video was most helpful. Thank you. Peter
I really like this setup.
Your box for the sound, is well vary nice and well though out !
Thank you from the USA
Typical!
I've just given mine to a friend because I talked myself into deciding I didn't need it. May have to get in touch with him and revise my plans...
Another great and thought-provoking - video. Thanks, Dennis.
Hi Dennis, I have had my camvac for about 7 years now, purchased well before record power acquired the brand. I also split the hose to reduce the sound. I still added a steel dust deputy to it to extend the life of the filters. I still ended up adding another two extractors as on long runs I did find it dropping off. But a great extractor and I think we'll worth the investment.
I really like the whisper box idea, as I added filters to the end but that reduced the exhaust flow rate, so I will have a go at making one.
You also got me into the black mdf as well which creates a really lovely contrast.
Great channel and love the China series, I have purchased quite a few products off the back of them.
As always, a great video with some great content
Keep up the good work
Looking forward to see you build your new workbench.
Very interesting. I have been looking at options for my workshop and I think this is a great solution.
I love your tidy workshop too! 👍😉
Congrats for this overwhelming workshop. That´s the absolute woodworker dream, but unreachable for the most of normal DIY woodworkers. Thank you for the best content i have ever seen and please give us more of this phantastic vids.
Excellent video again Dennis, fantastic set up you’ve got there👍
Excellent! Your shop looks very professional.
Thank you for your video it was very instructive and was great in helping me select a dust extractor. I bought a CamVac CGV386-5 90 L 2000 W dust extractor and the suction was amazing but noisy 90dB. Then I build your whisper box which works great dropping the sound down to 78dB with both motors running, which is quite acceptable.
Great break down thanks..looking at dust extraction for a new workshop so v useful.
I can’t say enough about mine. It amazes me this one and others like it aren’t more popular in the states. We run on 110v here but was worth the electrical upgrade
Thank you, Dennis. This video was very helpful.
Thanks Denis. This looks like a very versatile product that is efficient and won't break the bank.
I could not say it better :-)
So great to see you. Again another fantastic video
Thanks Kate!
i took your video as inspiration and built my own quick'n' dirty silencer out of OSB and including a 180° turn inside the box. The difference is night and day. -5db (!) plus the high pitch noise cancellation!
Always enjoy your videos, all of them great & informative including the China Tools.
A CamVac Dust extractor for a room size scale, multi-tools is a great setup; many DIY Woodworkers are like myself that don't have a dedicated shop, my garage converts to a temporary woodshop for a project. The smaller dust extractors (Makita, Festool, etc) that are much more than a glorified shop vacuum. I use a Festool 48AC Dust Extractor that I connect "directly to one tool at a time": track saw, circular saws, sanders, hand planer, etc. They may be smaller, but still a dust extractor that works great!
I look forward to larger shop in future, I'll defiantly look apply your suggestions of design & hardware.
very nice set up Dennis, well done.
Nice touch to add the orange panels. Now you will officially have a proper Dutch workshop!
Great video, I learnt more information from this video than many more watched. 👍
Really impressive system, Dennis! Fantastic! 😃
Some day I'm going to invest in something similar!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Fantastic video, so helpful. Thank you!
Would be great to see the parts used in your shop system, tubings gates etc. Great channel!
Hi Dennis, fantastic video! I would love to see the process of you building the duct system from start to finish 👍🙏
Absolutely brilliant
Good video, over very well done! Good explanations with just the right amount of detail for me. Thank you 👍🏻😊
Tnx again HOW-D. And yes ‘it’ is more than interesting enough to make another video. Please do!
Damn, your workshop is classy! Really beautiful.
Great video. This system is interesting and different from what you see out there. I would be interested a detailed video of the layout, but what I would be the most interested in is the numbers. At the conclusion you can show the air flow at each tool in the system, with the length for each tool.
Thank you!
Hi Dennis, more Videos, more China tools. Very nice Shop.
Arivederci Fratello 👍🔝
These vacs are a beast! Far out perform the Festool extractor. I have 4 in my shop and with the hose silencer’s in place it is very quiet. I have one for my drum sander and the noise of the drum sander is louder than the vac.
Absolutely show the build please great job sir. You now have a new subscriber.
Very well done as usual.
as always clear well expressed opinions and innovative solutions Well Done
Great minds , I bought one of these in January for all the same reasons and its been great so far. The suction is so strong the outlet covers pop off ,twin motors are working perfectly with my spiral block planner thickness. Can't recommend enough. Would love to see the bench build with dust kit added, the more workshop build videos the better please Dennis .
Hah, even on a normal planer head kicking off 330mm long shavings it doesn't choke. It sucks it all up without complaining barely leaving anything behind for cleaning.
Love your workshop.
Yes if you could make or show the making of the dust collecting on you work bench would be great.
Ok you sold me on the Cam Vac. Like you said I got a (cheap) Gamma workshop vacuum, and then a much larger but still cheap HBM extractor. Together it's far to big and bulky! If this thing can handle it all, it's definitely perfect for my small shop!
Excellent, extremely informative, excellently explained, narrated and very clear.you deserve to go on to be a very succesful channell and I have subscribed on the strength of this excellent video alone.. Well done!! Thank you Dennis, . Alan.. Menorca Spain
Great video, would be very interested in more dust extraction vids
Nice presentation and good info, thanks.
Your woodshop look so nice!
Dat ziet er uitstekend uit! Ga ik ook overwegen!
It would be great to see the ductwork build video. I’m hoping to do a similar build for my new workshop so will wait patiently for it. Thanks in advance.
Wonderful video Brother.
Great video, Dennis. Please do a video on the entire dust collection system.
I managed to buy one of these second hand - a massive step up from my previous setup. One point on your extraction system, I had similar blast gates on my old system but I found that the closed back to the gate soon started to fill up with dust and then prevented the gate from closing properly. As they are glued together I couldn't get in to clear them properly. I've ended up building my own ones from mdf where the slide goes all the way through to solve this. Maybe the greater suction from the Camvac will prevent this happening.
Another awesome video. Would love to learn how you put your dust collection network together along with your thought process of why you did this way and any lessons learned. Thanks and keep them coming, can't wait for your Laser video. Have you considered a CNC router? Love my Onefinity.
I'll definately consider one of the camvacs after watching this, just need my current one to break first!
Very neat setup
Awesome Video as always.
I would be interested in an extra Video regarding the pipe system.
Hi Denise, thanks for another great video and helpful knowledge. You are doing great job and it is pleasure to watch your episodes. By the way, cannot wait for shop tour ;-) my garage / workshop should be finished soon so I can start equipped it with tools. Dust extraction system is for me very important and thanks to your recommendation I will go for CANVAC. all best, robert
I think it is a good choice!
Definitely think about giving some review of plumbing you did on your system. I have a good 3 motor cyclone that runs gated 4” pipes to all stationary floor tools, but need to make some improvements for smaller handheld tools
I'd really like to see a video of you installing the clear piping system please, I'm assuming you accounted for it when designing your benches.
Great video and good advice
It does look awesome.
Great video. I’m currently at the stage in deciding what extraction to use so I’d definitely like to see a vid of how you’ve assembled the pipe work 👍🏼
I second this! I have recently built your workbench and am still a bit up in arms about the best way to set up ducting inside. And yeah as many have commented, the black mdf looks gorgeous.
Mooie video weer zoals altijd.
Welcome back, Dennis! Another excellent video and an interesting solution to handle all your dust collection needs. It would be great to see more details on how you pieces together the complete system throughout your awesome new workshop. Also, I like how you carried the black MDF and plywood design into all your benches, cabinets, etc. Must be really satisfying to walk into your shop and see how everything integrates together.
Sometimes I go in and just watching in stead of actually work. So, it is very distracting. Would not advice it this way 😁😁😁
Great video and information
Top video weer Dennis. gr Jaouad
Definitely would like to see how you setup the dust extraction.
Love your shop never have I seen anything like it. I share wish we could get that black MDF here in the US
You should make a current detector relay for the dust extractor, so that it starts automatically when it senses you use a tool.
Great video! Also every time I see your Black MDF I'm so jealous. In the USA still haven't been able to source in Florida at a reasonable cost.
Thank you so much for your videos👍
Thanks for taking the time to create and review this system. I just received the CamVac 55L system and am excited to get it hooked up. I'm in the US , so getting one shipped to me was no small endeavor. I'll be making the exhaust baffle system as soon as I get it hooked up. Great job and keep up the great reviews
How did you go about getting on of these to the US?
I'm also in the US, where did you get yours from? I'd like to order one myself for the shop I'm building.
@@petenelson8136 @tacar300 I ordered it from @stockroomsupply in Canada. They ship to the US.
@@Lowsideslide Thanks, I subscribe to their channel and that's where I'd seen the CamVac and where I thought I'd be buying one once I get my shop built. Good to know they got it to you, and glad you like it.
My dad is currently building his own dream wood workshop, as a beginner woodworker. He happened to have bought himself a Record Power dust bin too - so this video will be perfect for him! He was also wanting to hide his dust connectors/pipes in his workbenches. It would be great if you could upload that process as well. :) Looks very clean!
Fun, wish him good luck! nothing more satisfying than create your perfect work / hobby space :-)
Great video!
What an great video. Thank you. I’m not sold in the product because to make it really good I have to build things and I don’t need to do that with its competition. But you detailed discretion was awesome. I am a new subscriber. P.s, you have done very nice, but expensive tools.
Another great video Dennis. I'm still using just a Bosch vac. I really need a decent extraction unit and you have probably found me the one I need. Thank you and good to see you back, hope you had a good holiday and family time.
Can I ask Dennis which dust extraction unit did you get, was it the 4 or another one from your link?
Nice video Dennis. I have an older version of the CamVac that was purchased before they were taken over by Record Power. It works great on the table saw, bandsaw and planer but be careful with handheld tools as I have burnt out one of the motors when using it with my random orbital sander. I can only assume that the airflow through the sander was not enough to cool the motor.
Does your older one have the option to only power on 1 motor like the one Dennis has? What you mentioned is the exact use case I was worried about. I was thinking of getting one of these if it could save me getting both a dust collector and a dust extractor for stuff like sanders.
Dennis, I just went to your online site and found the drawing for the Whisper box
