Please don't do "Reflection" alone, it must be the "Holy trinity" together: "Disposition" + "Reflection" + "Triad"; It is a long trilogy but it is the only way to do it, totally worth it. Other than that - how about Parabol + Parabola??
ktopaz 100% . You can’t listen to any of those songs in isolation and give them justice. Have to be in album order. The Parobola video (which has both songs) is mental.
Don’t do Right In Two alone either! It goes with Intension! And Disposition/Reflection/Triad are meant to be heard as one. That’s why they played them all together in a row on the Lateralus tour.
I can see your disposition shift gradually from happy for a new Tool song to emotional collapse from the existential and philosophical implications of the lyrical revelation.
This song came out after years of Americans watching live feeds from Iraq and Afghanistan on the TV. I remember flipping through the channels at midnight in the early 2000s and seeing them, tanks rolling into towns, blowing up buildings, all broadcast live. This was, to me, a direct reaction to that.
I honestly didnt realise that watching somebody watch Tool would be so interesting. Iv been going through the greatest epoch of my Tool obsession recently and every time i listen the interest and intrigue grows. Keep up the videos dude!
They are extremely technical, I feel its like math/science meets music at such a deep level. Their timing signatures are like nothing else in modern music, one reason I love to drum to their music, it makes me better because it's SO tough to play/learn. One thing I like to do with friends to show them is ask them to, "Try to bob your head to this song, you will see what I mean." Shows you how unorthodox their timing really is, just listening you don't notice at times. If you like Tool you must listen to A Perfect Circle (which you may have already), some members from Tool formed them.
Honestly the song 10,000 days is a masterpiece of music that you would appreciate on all fronts. If you're looking for more melody from Maynard then that's the one. At one point there's like an entire choir of him harmonizing with himself
Thank you. Even though we are obviously numerous, i think i speak for at least a few fans of Tool in saying that these notes, rhythms and lyrics have had a significant impact on our lives. Seeing someone appreciate something that i have cried over, played countless times on guitar and tried to introduce to friends and family is i don't know.. comforting? to see someone hear something almost as i wan't people to hear it.
I know Triad is supposed to be the last part, but really Reflection ends the album perfectly and everything afterwards is detrimental. As a reaction it would be painful watching them sit through Triad thinking "ok but why" like the rest of us.
Hey Jim, another great review, thanks! Just some thoughts on the meaning of the song: I don't think Maynard is saying he agrees with this point of view, but he is presenting how he thinks the majority of other people would react with defensiveness. Like in a movie when an actor portrays a questionably evil character, but it's shown in a way where we can all relate to his hardships and struggles. It makes us find some common ground with the "evil" character. I guess he's trying to say that the people who watch this shit are just like you and me. We're all guilty of it (of course there will be exceptions) in a way, and if we can practice seeing the manipulation for what it is, we won't be fooled by it in the future maybe. I know I'm reaching haha :) For upcoming stuff I might recommend Jambi, Right In Two, or Schism. Anyway, cheers sir!
Right in Two, got the melody ur lookin for and the best build up ever, and one of Dannys best performances ever. Im a big fan of ur channel and serious Tool fan for life so trust me Jim, im sure many others have requseted to same song.
@@Stefnmaddy Lucky you! I'm a bit short on cash lately, I hope I'll be able to see them on this tour. Saw them 3 times back in the 10,000 days era, got some of my fondest live concert memories since Pink Floyd back in '88.
I think thats one of the last songs a new listener should listen to. He didn't enjoy Rosetta Stoned very much and that song is more accessible than Third Eye imo.
As a huge tool head I recommend at some point sitting down and listening through a whole album as there is an enormous amount of continuity in each of their albums. You have yourself a sub sir, I love seeing people react to tool for the first time. Also a few of my personal favorites No Quarter, yes the led zeppelin song, off of Salival Wings for Marie pt. 1 and 2 aka 10,000 days Parabol/parabola Reflection, though the "triad" of disposition, reflection, triad should really be listened to as a cohesive piece that's probably much too long for a video.
I know, I know. Albums are the way forward. However, Tool isn't available on iTunes or Spotify so need to buy CD or vinyl and then set up all my old hi-fi gear to actually listen to it! Or, just stream it on RUclips.....
The lyrics aren’t talking about just the news. It’s media in general. Whether it be movies, documentaries, music, or books, most of the media we consume has a lot to do with death and tragedy.
I don’t think Maynard is necessarily referring to the news here. The scenarios depicted in the opening verses are common fiction tropes we find in tv and film
Jambi is only fitting to do next. Right in Two is my all time favorite song. It’s a masterpiece and it takes you to another world if you fall into it. Highly recommend that one.
Hey Jim loving your channel my friend. Humbled by your frank honest and humbled opinions on music, especially Tool. Im huge fan of tool and you......love this. I have seen them in concert 12 times. Im a Bass player and 43 and still like to "rock out" for the most epic Tool deep experience check out Wings of Marie Part 1 and 2(10000 Days)lyric video epic! Also more Rishloo (Fearhergun Album Awesome) also Omega and Alchemy Alice from Rishloo....more Alter Bridge is always good check out Cry for Achilles, Fortress, Addicted to Pain, Show me a Leader all great from Alter Bridge. Love it mate keep it up!
Thanks, Jim! Enjoyed it. Requesting, "Jambi." Also, you have two birds on your cup and at about 11:06 two birds fly past your window. I can't help noticing little coincidences like that.
You could see Maynard's words punch you right in the soul. You wanted to speak, but every time you went to...BAM!...another poignant line hits you back into silence. That is testament to Maynard's lyrical prowess.
i would like to suggest the song The Same River by Riverside. If you liked Escalator Shrine, than you gonna like this one aswell. You can choose between the studio and the live performance. both are pretty good! Have a nice one Jim
really like your insight! most ive seen just agreeing with the lyrical content. i find it more interesting to see someone that has a different point of view
You the man Jim. Just saw them for the first time in Chicago 2 weeks ago. I assume you will be in attendance when they are in England in a few werks?? Wait you're from England right?
Great!!! You are really good talking about the songs so thanks to hear it , please you need to react to Third Eye ! It's probably the most experimental song by Tool
I don't think he's only talking about the news mate, all fictional tv shows and movies would fit in what he's saying, "whatever the flavor it happens to be like" "still we need to watch things die from a distance....." "carnivore and voyeure" "devour it is to survive so it is so it's always been... we all feed on tragedy, it's like blood to a vampire" so to conclude, i think that even if the tragedy is fictional, the same patterns can be seen. "why can't we just admit it"
I am only a few videos into your Tool reactions (and of course I'll watch them all) and I find it hilarious that in every single one since the first you progressively mention more frequently how brilliant they are.....but....'I'm not going to do another Tool song for awhile'...'I can't just do Tool videos'......'i don't know if I can say that all other bands will now fall short' (it's ok though, because your face and demeanor say 'i wish I could just go through all the Tool discography right now, nothing comes close to these guys, fucking hell'. Lol. Spiral out.
(may-nerd) is how we pronounce his name. Check out some of Danny's drum cam video that he shoots during live performances. Over the shoulder brilliance.
True, I don't think necessarily everyone "likes" tragedy, but we can't help but be fascinated so we watch almost hypnotized..so even if people don't "like" it, it's still guaranteed views for the news.
check out Maynard's other two bands he's in perfect circle and a band called puscifer , both so mind blowing & excellent you're going to love it so when you get done with tool check those two bands out. Maynard also has a winery in Arizona he makes some of the award-winning wine.
Dude, "Right In Two" and "Reflection" will blow your mind...
Please don't do "Reflection" alone, it must be the "Holy trinity" together: "Disposition" + "Reflection" + "Triad"; It is a long trilogy but it is the only way to do it, totally worth it.

Ingo Bordewick maybe I need to listen again but I don’t see the appeal of reflection
@@tomwhitehill4308 It's a meditative song if you're in a pensive mood. It won't appeal to you if you're in an active mood.
3:55 When you wanna groove, but them lyrics too real.
I can see your disposition shift gradually from happy for a new Tool song to emotional collapse from the existential and philosophical implications of the lyrical revelation.
Tool, calling us all out........
Really hits home.
Right in two, if you want melody
dankius memeious 4.20 If he does Right In Two then he needs to start with Intension. Right In Two is one of those two part songs
DANKIUS ahhh good taste in memes and music. 👌
Memes and tool, I made the right decision subscribing to your channel
Vicariously I ..watch Jim react to Tool on a Tuesday night...
I heard that in Maynard's voice. Vicariously.
Hugh Jass watch while the whole youtube dies...
We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire
The instrumentals on Vicarious are god-like
Dude finally someone who actually listens to the music from the beginning to the end. Subscribed!

My favorite Tool reaction/review provider to watch. No pauses or talking over vocals, and you have a good headset. Thanks!
I honestly didnt realise that watching somebody watch Tool would be so interesting. Iv been going through the greatest epoch of my Tool obsession recently and every time i listen the interest and intrigue grows.
Keep up the videos dude!
Loving the videos man. Started on one of my favorite bands, Karnivool and wound up on another, Tool.
Great to see someone enjoying music so much.
I know I may be a year late to the party but. Every time I listen to a Tool song I'm captivated by the absolute perfect mix
Next song MUST be TOOL "46 & 2" I'm surprised you haven't played
46 & 2 already. Probably one of the grooviest melodic bass lines ever recorded.
Cant wait to watch the vid, love your Tool reactions. Right in two. Best build up ever!!!
Welcome back! I hope all is well and as always thank you for Tool!
One of the very few bands that can leave you out of breath and flabbergasted AF! Legends they will be 🤘
I was looking through everything Vicarious today, including reactions. Nice timing, Jim!
The pot is needed..!!!! The bass tone is monstrous

5:47 I feel like this section is kinda underrated, I never hear anyone talking about it. It’s my favourite part of the song

Brilliant rewiew for brilliant song!
Welcome back Jim, thanks for the videos
Jambi or Disposition-Reflection-Triad
I know Triad is supposed to be the last part, but really Reflection ends the album perfectly and everything afterwards is detrimental. As a reaction it would be painful watching them sit through Triad thinking "ok but why" like the rest of us.
Hey man! welcome Back. Told you we'd wait :) happy that you're fine. You keep comming with all my favourite tool songs in a row! :D
btw also the tool-song i enjoy the most on drums. Even more than Lateralus
One of the most beautiful guitar riffs I have ever heard.
Nice to see you back! 👍
You're killing me with the whole "Mallard" thing LMAO. Love the analysis.
Quack!
subscribed because of your reactions to TOOL - welcome to the enlightened
Next song: Jambi
From the Non-Existant DVD. My fucking god it's shit the bed good.
Would love to see a reaction of Right in Two, the opening riff is soooo nice
Wohoo! Finally someone reacts to Vicarious :D My favorite song of all time.

‘Forty-Six & 2’...will blow your mind, musically and lyrically.
Mantra and The Patient!!!!! They follow The Grudge. Maynard's melodies are beautiful in this song.
Disposition, Reflection and Triad are amazing and should be listened to at the same time.
Right in Two, got the melody ur lookin for and the best build up ever, and one of Dannys best performances ever. Im a big fan of ur channel and serious Tool fan for life so trust me Jim, im sure many others have requseted to same song.
A piece of work indeed. Maynard's willingness to level with the lowest common denominator is what makes him greater than the average genius.
This is the song that hooked me.
Oh HECK YEAH! This is going to be fun! I'll take a break from the work i...just restarted...LOL Thank you Jim!
Jimbo waddup bro town. good shit agen. keep at it son.
#seeyounexttimeyoulistentotool
YES, I am here for this.
And the ending also goes well with the beginning of the next song in the album the song that's after that one in the album is wings for marie.
Jambi or The Pot next would be great..
Loving the Tool reactions! Would love to see you react to Jambi
Cant help but feel Vicarious watching this.
right in 2 ,sober ,h , love your tool videos btw
Welcome back Jimbo....can I call you that Jimbo, Jimmy.....I'll stick with Jim. Welcome back Jim
This song is one of my all-time favorite lyrics by Maynard.
Guillaume Perez was EPIC live in Philly. Just lost my mind when they played it.

Parabol and parabola. They go together! Love the vids!
Good way to come back... I'd really love to see you react to Tool's Third Eye
I think thats one of the last songs a new listener should listen to. He didn't enjoy Rosetta Stoned very much and that song is more accessible than Third Eye imo.
I don't agree. The movements in Third Eye are far more easy to follow. Song isn't anywhere near as spazzy as Rosetta Stoned.
I agree with both. Rosetta is definitely more whack but Third Eye should also be closer to the back end for a newb 😁
Love this reactions!!
Are you saying you've never slowed past a car crash??. Yeeaahh...I believe you...
Right on man. Who hasn’t?
The only time I've slowed down past a car accident is because of the rubbernecking idiots in front of me slowing everything down.

If you listen to "Omega" by Rishloo, listen to both "Eidolon Alpha" and "Omega". If you just do "Omega" you are only listening to half the song.
Disposition- Reflection - Triad... Let's jam out!
Right in two. Great vocals and instrumental very recommended

Every time I see my turtle eating worms, this goes through my head:
"the universe is hostile, so impersonal, devour to survive so it is..."
TOOL=OWN GENRE
Third eye must happen ! Best song by Tool
You the man Jim. Just saw them for the first time in Chicago 2 weeks ago. I assume you will be in attendance when they are in England in a few werks?? Wait you're from England right?
Parabola, H, or Right in Two. Please Jim!
It's not just the news, mate. It's a catch-all to include film or dramas as well.
Sorry but that "bong" sound effect was amazing :P
Ha! Don't be sorry - I love a "Boiiiiiiing" sound as much as the next man.
Great!!! You are really good talking about the songs so thanks to hear it , please you need to react to Third Eye ! It's probably the most experimental song by Tool
TOOL - RIGHT IN TWO
METALLICA - MY FRIEND OF MISERY
Flood. Some old school tool
Flood would be amazing! But I think its a song that sound better in the full context of Undertow. Third Eye would be an interesting reaction vid!
And sweat and undertow and swamp song....
May as in Mayday and nard as in your balls. Maynard. My favorite is Jerk Off live from the Opiate album. Not what you think, great lyrics.
Favourite Tool song. Next time no lyric video
Third Eye will blow your mind
Braw lug, me lad o' pairts !

Great as always! I would recommend Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of) by Mars Volta. Something different from the Tool requests!
In a documentary about it, Alex Grey says that there's conceit in the lyrics. So it's not Mallard's opinion.
