I have an Arturia MicroBrute Hardware synth as well and I am currently operating on Logic Pro X. My question is: Lets say I record a pattern on the hardware synth (MicroBrute Arturia), and I want to record the pattern in into the DAW using the same method you showed... Would I then be able to sync the external hardware Arturia MicroBrute Synth that is playing the pattern I made into the Software's tempo? Because the MicroBrute's Tempo stands on its own, but it'd be great to find out how to sync the tempo from the DAW to the pattern that the External synth is playing through the DAW.
You didn't mention if you were going through an interface or direct USB connection I'm assuming since you were using channel 4 that you were using an interface it's just relative information for the complete understanding of the video
Do you have any idea how I'd record this into my logic project, and then use a different sound from the external synth on another track? Like you did with the soft synth? Would I have to record it in as audio before changing my synth settings? Or is there a way to retain my MIDI info and sound while using a different channel?
MetaphorHipHop I found out the answer. Basically it depends how many voices your external synth has. I found out that mine only has one. So to record multiple tracks on it i needed to set it up like he does in the video and then create an audio track to record that onto. Then i can change the external synth setting while still keeping the recorded audio on the audio track and the MIDI data on the external instrument track. I don't think I explained very well but...
I always wondered the same thing. I think the people above answered it. You need dual midi/audio tracks per voice/sound you want to record. Since most synths can only have one signal output at a time, you have to record them separately.
How do you do a bank change? I have over 2000 presets available, yet I'm limited to 127 as I can't get the bank to change, only the channel and program seam to change anything.
thank so much i was becoming crazy ! :) do you also know how to make the window of a intrument close and come back easily for easy visualization? thanks !
Question - I have a Montage 8 Synthesizer and I set it up with FL studios sequencer. I'm able to use the Montage to control not only the sounds and samples etc. in FL just fine, but for some reason the volume of the sounds that come out of my synth are much lower than the volume of FL Studio and my current project. If I raise the Master volume on my Montage 8, it simply raises the overall volume of my project, (which doesn't help me.) I'm looking to raise the volume ONLY for the sounds coming out of my Montage 8 and keep the project the same volume in FL so that way the sounds that come out of my Montage match the volume level of my project. IF you or anyone can help me figure out how to control my external synths volume separate from my DAWs volume (especially if you have FL studio) please let me know! Thanks!
Hello. On the subject of external MIDI: How do you record a few MIDI tracks and/or sync a multi-timbral workstation such as a KORG M1's sequencer into Logic x. The reason I'm interested is because I've got some old sequenced songs and would like to edit and play them through some of the new instruments and effects in Logic x? I hope you can help me and others with this subject. Thanks a lot.

sorry how do i actually use the preset sounds on fantom so that it appears as it is on logic? because it is coming up as the sounds of sounds of logic (like guitar) but im actualyl selecting grand piano on my fantom
Great vid, Thanks so much. I just purchased a Korg Kross2 and trying to connect it with Logic X but can only seem to be able to use it as a midi interface. Am unable to access the Kross sounds. What am I doing wrong??? can you help. Do you have a video that covers the actual set up procedures?
Great video, but I have 2 questions. 1. How would this work with a sampler like an akai s3000XL, Or a Roland Integra 7 (using the 8 outs for different sounds). 2. Does logic save the presets and the modifications you make to the sound from the hardware with the session? Or do you have to render it as audio? Thanks.
Thanks for this Mo. I'm not sure if it's my set up or not but I find Logic X very hit and miss as to whether it will play an external synth via the method you describe...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I've Apogee Duet 2 Interface - Novation Impulse as MIDI Keyboard. I want to Sync Moog Mother 32 with Logic Pro X. Is there any way to this? I tried MIDI Out from Novation Impulse & MIDI in to Moog Mother 32. It's getting me the Keyboard Control. But How Do I Sync Tempo in Logic Pro X? Please help! Thank you!
I've got a question what MIDI interface are you using to connect all of your hardware synths ? , I have a Motu 128 express (not the XT version) and all I get when my machines are plugged in to it is a doubled MIDI tempo to my drum machines , am using 10.9.5 Mavericks and Logic X 10.2 and there are no MIDI outs connected from any machines just MIDI in , yet something is doubling the clock somehow? all are set up in AMS correctly and nothing is set to send or transmit clock , all machines are set to slave and yet I still get a doubled tempo message at the machines , electron Machinedrum and Roland TR-8 , Motu sent out a new unit not so long ago after tech linking and attempting to problem solve using DP9 , I sent PDF's of my set up and they agreed I wasn't doing anything wrong , since the new unit from Motu arrived the problem still persists , I don't get the issue when connecting any of the machines via my Saffire Liquid 56 all behaves as it should but as soon as the Motu is involved in the mix we are back to square one , is there a way to get around this ? via clicks and ports set up maybe and still have full control of my MIDI messages ? it is driving me bonkers , I have taken to switching back to having the Virus Ti connected via usb and the electron machinedrum via usb and the TM1 and then the Roland TR-8 via the saffires MIDI but this is going to put strain on my MBP's motherboard at the USB point and doesn't get everything back in the rack where it belongs can anyone help out I have a full set of PDF's that I can email showing all connections both physical and setting internally within AMS and Logic , there has to be a solution.
I have managed to create and record my midi track for my Avalon as shown but when the track played past the midi bar (where the pattern should stop) it carries on playing, which isn't good for when I don't want the Avalon playing in the track, how do I solve this please?
This really rocks.. My only worry is when I have my Novation Nova hooked up, how does Logic remember all my performance program and filter settings cause I'm sure I'll never be able to recall them??
Hello. Thanks for your tutorial. Can you please show how to set up 2 independent tracks using a multi-timbral external keyboard using the external instrument plugin method. When I set up multiple tracks, I get the sounds, but the effects and volumes are all not independent. Thanks for your help..
Hi, I have tracks built inside my Roland FA06 that I now want to bring into logic x. I've been advised to create 16 channels, import the SMF file - link up the channel numbers then create a master MIDI channel and an Audio channel to monitor it. Can I just use the same principle but with external software tracks as in the video? All the tutorials dealing with external synths show how to set up from scratch, but not how to deal with importing a whole/half finished track :/ Any advice on what would be the standard way of tackling this situation would be really helpful. Cheers!
So here's my question. I have a Critter and Guitari Bolsa Bass. I have the machine running through a quarter inch cable into my UA Apollo Duo interface. No MIDI. Can I make this work the same way?
Depending on you hardware synth, and computer/laptop , you will either go straight from a USB cable jack in the back of the hardware synth (shaped like a house) into your usb port on your computer, OR a midi in/midi out cable to USB, (the one i have for my Roland (UM-one) actually has a little box in the middle of the wire that converts the signal from midi in/midi out (two round cables with pins) to USB. It requires driver updates to be compatible with my operating system (Mac OS Mojave) Yours may too if it is an older synth. If you have newer synth with a usb out on your synth, (shaped like a house) don’t bother with the midi in/ midi out cables, as its easier to just to go straight from USB. But if you DO have a older synth, one thing to watch for is that you connect the right midi in to the right midi out. If it says “midi in” on the cable, then you connect it to “midi out” on keyboard and vice versa. But if it says “CONNECT to midi in” on the cable, then connect that to midi in, and “connect to midi out” to midi out as directed. But obviously if you have a USB out on yiur keyboard, its going to save you all that hassle. Just hook your USB cable to your computer, and boom. Good to go, so long as your computer recognizes the USB in.
Every time I set mine up and add the external instrument - if I try and add another channel, the synths input just comes through both / as many as I put and I am unable to prevent this ?? Any help
Hello. I got analog drum machine plugged via USB / Audio inputs via Scarlett 2i2. Midi data is recorded. But when i switch off the drum machine I cannot hear any audio, plus I've noticed that no audio is recorded on the same channel.
What if you have TWO midi hardware synths, and you want to use BOTH as controllers depending on whether you want to use either of the hardware synths’ external sounds, or use one of them to control any number of software synths?
How did you have your microbrute hooked up? Just a usb midi cable? Also, do you have to print the midi data as an audio track once you are done recording midi?
I followed the exact instructions but there is no Aux 1 in my mixer when I go look.... Just "Inst 1", "Stereo Out" and "Master" So I am stuck at this step.....
Hey guys, when i try to add my micro brute into my macbook i just get a feedback loop which sounds awful and nearly blows out my speakers. Any advice on MIDI settings? It's a brand new, top-end MacBook and the micro brute has hardly been used since purchase.
Hey was having no problems playing an instrument while listening on garage band but now that I upgraded to logic I cant seem to do it now. I tried doing the same things from garage but not working with logic....any advice
HI THERE I watched your video tutorial , and I found it very interesting , but I have a question 4 u How can I us my LOGIC PRO X like an external sequencer . I have a KORG KROME and I want to record all the data into LPX I mean I want not to use the korg sequencer I want to create my song into logic , but using directly my KORG KROME Do you understand what I want to do ? You did it with one track how can I do it with more than one track , Is it possible or I must to record into an audio track and then continuous with the rest of the tracks? I hope you can solve my question or maybe clarify the correct way to do that thanks a lot for your time greetings from CHILE SOUTHAMERICA
sorry about my dumb question but, what happens when you want to launch that track and you have not the keyboard you recorded with you? how do you load the sound??? i have tried to record some sound from my MOXF8, they sound when the keyboard is plugged, but if i change the sound to record another track then the first one is gone...why??? i would really appreciate your help.
Once you get a track you like with the desired instrument you'll want to export it as an audio track (this gives you a recording of that track playing which you can keep forever). Then you can go on to record your next track using this technique again. Depending on your setup you could have many instruments hooked up to your computer simultaneously, on for each part but this isn't necessary. A Midi track isn't sound. Midi is just information that is transmitted to an instrument so the instrument knows what to play. If you change the instrument then the Midi will tell the new instrument to play the information of the old instrument. This is why you must record the sound output of the desired instrument so you have a copy of it in your project file.
Hello! Great Video!!! You solved a big question I had! But now I have another one. Following the process shown, I can record the MIDI notes from my external instrument, but not the changes I done while recording. I mean, if I am changing the cutoff, the envelope, the resonance.. how all those changes could be recorded? Thanks!!
how do you bounce though? Once I disconnect my keyboard, the midi input remains, but the sound is gone... I assume this means I have to bounce the track? But that doesn't work it just leaves me with an empty track
+ouss mayo i discovered one way to do it is to assign the midi track's output to a bus, and then create a new track and assign the input to be that same bus. then record on the new track while your hardware is still plugged in (it will have to play the song), and it will record an AUDIO track of the new track
Ok ive searched everywhere and cant find the answer,,I have ezdrummer and ezdrummer 2,,I also have over 1500 drumless tracks that I want to play along with,,hows it done,,how do you insert a drumless track (mp3) into reaper so you can polay along with it,,can it even be done,,i would just play them on vlc and play along but ezdrummer once opened seems to be the only sound that will come out,,others are muted almost,,is it a software issue or is it as simple as putting in a decent soundcard to handle both,,im using the aiso driver at present,,any help would be appreciated,,
hey, any help for me? Im using live 9 with similar settings as in logic with external instrument plugin.. i get midi and audio BUT when i play the track back in my DAW, theres no sound! cheers
So as far as my connections between the synth and the computer go, do I need both an audio line in from the midi to the daw as well as a usb midi connection? Or can it all go over the midi alone?
Hi, I have a nord rack and can't seem to get to play in logic, it receives the signal but doesn't send it back, and if i press the trigger button it sends signal to the DAW but no sound. hope you can help, bit desperate. Thanks, Pedro
I had to turn on MMR machine control or something like that in the prefs. what i'm having trouble with now is getting it to record on the correct midi channel only not the highlighted track! ugh.
I want to use more than one sound out of my keyboard for my tracks in logic 10 but as soon as i record my first sound from my keyboard into logic, if i make a new instrument track with a different sound out of my keyboard, then the first track changes to whatever sound i changed it to for the second track..(my keyboard also has a built in audio interface that i use) i need help in learning how to use multiple sounds from my keyboard to logic without every instrument changing when i want a new sound
When i remove the external instrument (roland juno ds) then the midi data recorded is visually still there but doesnt have the sound. How do you get the sounds from your external instrument to stay as midi when the instrument has been removed?
I must have it connected wrong. I dont see my korg M3 on any list of destinations. How do I connect it.?? with a midi cable or usb or???? IN OUT THRU ?
Is there any latency when using the external hardware as a software instrument? Or is it almost as playing a Logic software instrument in terms of latency?
Are you iusing a synth as a midi? and if you connect your synth can you get the synth sounds into logic pro/garageband or do you need to use the prerecorded sounds?
It is possible , select external instrument and then will appears the synth that you have connected by midi channel , then play it and will sound and you can record it ,the MIDI info will stay ,if you want to have it into your DAW ,assign a bus and an audio track using this bus , and press rec and the sound will appears like an audio track , is the very way showed at this video , but using a synth
nice video, i'm looking however for the way of automating my harware synth parameters ,midi ccs in logic, would you happen to know how to do this? new to logic jeje
I wonder if anyone can help... Ive set up a mininova synth as the External Instrument. I record a track (using the filters and tweaking controls on the synth as I play). However when I play the recorded track back in logic it just plays the whole thing with my current settings on the synth, i.e. the settings that I've ended the track on. Any idea what to do to hear the track as I have recored it? Thanks in advance
My hardware synth controls two different virtual synths in their respective instrument tracks just fine. But when i do what you say to do here, i get nothing on that instrument track. . How do you know what input to set it to? Input 4 almost blew my eardrums out with a feedbook loop. Something to do with my mic i think. i try other inputs and get nothing no matter what i do. Obviously my hardware synth works, and obviously its communicating with log pro and the other instrument plug ins fine. The only thing that diesnt work is the “external instrument track” that you describe here. Why?
I dispd everything as yiu did. I chose my hardware in the destination. i chose different inputs. I get nothing on any “external instruments” i choose in an instrument track
two questions: If, for example, I record piano with a Korg synthesizer on one track, and then drums on another, logic pro wont let me. It makes both tracks either piano or drums. Also, I cannot bounce the track. I only can play this through the speakers connected to my synthesizer. When I bounce it I hear the lonely sound of the metronome. Please help i'm in hell.
I experienced a problem when I bounced my track, the Korg Kronos part was missing (which is my External instrument). I was expecting you to mention how it would be like when you bounce the track. Could you help me please?
Hi there sorry I have a Korg Krome and I can record the sound into the logic pro x 1-look for external instrument 2-Play the sound 3-record it 4-then assign an audio track with an bus assignment 5-the midi data recorded it using your kronos will be displayed like MIDI write 6-the info recorded ( MIDI) ASSIGN the gain to de output bus 7- the audio track must be assigned to the bus of your midi info recorded with your kronos 8-Record it in real time , and then you will have your sound converted into an audio track I recorded a COMBI with arp and drum track and it will be recorded into an audio track completely When you have the audio track you can do everything you wants , but in MIDI option I think is impossible to manipulate it completely obviously fx , quantize option you can do it I hope this tips help you , greetings from CHILE Southamerica
Dida Rakotoarison No problem , I tried to help I know sometimes we are very jammed in some matters , so it happened to me and i found the answer , not so fast as I wanted , but I found it...greetings
I have and audio cable running from my microbrute to my audio interface and a midi cable running from the microbrutes midi in to the interfaces midi out. I got sound to come through the external instrument track without an audio track, but it wont record anything. Do i need both cables or do i just need the midi? Im wondering how he has it connected to his computer via interface. i cant figure it out would be great if someone had an answer
not getting anysounds via midi follow all steps but no soundssszz .. well i guess might be the audio interface im using virus snow ? could that be it ?
Yeah I'm having some dramas.. I'm using microkrg .. when i click on instrument for starters i do not have external instrument in the drop down list !.. i have to scroll down to utility and its in there . secondly the micro org is always set in 3-4 for some reason and i get no sound if i click 1-2.. and once i play midi notes and try to bounce into audio it records blank!!.. whats going on there , if you can help id be very happy!! also id love to know how to record straight into my logic x from my microkorg straight up as an audio file rather than midi..all these use to work fine in my logic 8!.. cheers
i was play and record blofeld ext syn. however when i created another external track and chose different sound, the first ext track sound also changed with it. does anyone know why??
If you have a DA/AD converter (interface) with 1/4" jacks you can use the output of the Microkorg L/R outs to go into your DA/AD converter then to your DAW as audio. However, it's much better to use MIDI if you want to change anything.
Have you anyway i could contact you? No i didnt remove the audio jacks, my DAW is logic pro, and i can use my MK as a midi keyboard to play software instruments, but i cant use my MK to playback midi that ive made on the daw.
Nicky, I'm really not the guy you need, as everything I do is straight audio (bass, guitars, drums, vocals). I would imagine you'd need to connect the midi in port from your A/D converter's MIDI out port to play it, but I do not know how that works. Wish I could be more helpful.
+Isaac Anderson Uhm no? Because your extern synthesizer is the actual source of your signal, it gives you the actual sound. Logic only reads that source. It's like you would take a piano with you, but without the strings inside which make the tones. ;)
a song is something completely different than a synthesizer. a song is some kind of file ur pc/daw creates/exports and it will be read anytime and everywhere. casual mp3 or whatever it will be, u know what I mean... a synthesizer is a plugin, u can create sounds with, in a daw for example. there are many vst plugins etc. u can install an use them anytime u want. but with external instruments its different. for example the virus ti... u can only use the plugin in ur daw if ur virus is connected to ur pc/daw. the virus is ur actual sound source, and works different than some downloadable plugins. other example would be waldorf blofeld or whatever u'll use. they actually work all the same, with some exceptions... ;)
+tecktonikboy13 I'm still waiting for you to answer my question. :-( I've never used a PC DAW before. I still use hardware for everything excepting recording. (I use Audacity) I'd really like to mess around with Software synths, drum machines, VSTi, effects processing plug-ins, sequencing, recording, etc, entirely on my PC. (or in addition to hardware) I just don' know where/how to being. What is a good "Host"? What is a good DAW? Is there any free host/DAW software out there, so I can just mess around & familiarize myself?
Not enough info. The USB would carry the MIDI. You would want to configure the Sub37 MIDI channel to match what's in the DAW. Make sure the Sub37 MIDI setting allows USB for MIDI in. You then need to connect the Sub37 audio output to your computer somehow, such as through the Scarlett, and setup your DAW track for that audio. Depending on the DAW, you might need a separate MIDI track ( set to send MIDI out to the proper channel for the Sub37) and an audio track capturing the Sub37 output. Or maybe your DAW can handle both the MIDI and audio on the same track ( the way he's doing it.) One thing I was not clear on, in this video, was whether the DAW is recording the audio, or just the MIDI.
So Michael in this particular video I presume he is using MIDI and audio cables. What if you wanted to use USB cable(s) only? Assume the following setup: 1 new audio interface, SUB 37 hardware synth, USB cable from SUB 37 to PC, USB cable from audio interface to PC. Any new DAW. No audio cables nor MIDI cables. I was told this is the most efficient way?
I don't know if USB can carry audio on the Sub 37. My Yamaha MoxF6 can do that though, some so synths do both MIDI and audio over USB. Maybe you can download the Sub 37 manual or email Moog for the answer
I've just found out the Sub 37 transmits only MIDI thru the USB. I've got the Roland AIRA TB-3 but there are not a lot of videos on connecting multiple synths that pass MIDI and audio through USB. Some comments suggest passing audio on USB is backward but I'd be keen to watch a video on using 2 or 3 USB synths in Cubase without tangling with audio cables, midi cables, patch bays, mixers, etc (balanced audio cables from audio interface output to studio monitors is fine).
Thanks, I didn't know how to do this once logic made the upgrades. Your an excellent teacher to the point and easy to understand!
Unless you explain and show how you physically connected various devices, this doesn't make any sense :(
I have an Arturia MicroBrute Hardware synth as well and I am currently operating on Logic Pro X.
Sound Description very interesting question, did you find the answer
Sound Description
You have to set it up in the midi preferences in logic if you want logic to start the internal sequencer of the Microbrute.
i had some issues using audio effects - your video gave me quick the idea how to solve it. Thanks a lot!
This is one of the best Logic tutorials online today. Really great work.
Awesome tutorial. I've been overcomplicating this process with multiple tracks this whole time.
Millions of thanks man, i've looked how to do this for ages!
Thank you! I always had one Midi and one audiotrack. Didn't know that this could be set up this easyly...Greetings
You didn't mention if you were going through an interface or direct USB connection I'm assuming since you were using channel 4 that you were using an interface it's just relative information for the complete understanding of the video
Hey there, this was great! Now my Korg Minilogue is rocking. Cheers for sharing
How did you populate that drop-down of external MIDI keyboards? I have an old MT-32 and would like to map it from Logic.
are you only going from uour microbrute via usb to your computer or are you even connecting it to your audio interface with a jack?
Very helpful! And man, I've never heard of MIDI Region Aliases in Logic... Soooo helpful for layering parts! Thank you!
Do you have any idea how I'd record this into my logic project, and then use a different sound from the external synth on another track? Like you did with the soft synth? Would I have to record it in as audio before changing my synth settings? Or is there a way to retain my MIDI info and sound while using a different channel?
Same question here! Plus: Does the shown method work in Logic 9, too? Thx!
I don't think I explained very well but...
that was the explanation I was looking for nice one brother
I always wondered the same thing. I think the people above answered it. You need dual midi/audio tracks per voice/sound you want to record. Since most synths can only have one signal output at a time, you have to record them separately.
Bro MY MATRIXBRUTE IS FREAKING ROCKING!!!!!
Thanks for this video
How do you do a bank change? I have over 2000 presets available, yet I'm limited to 127 as I can't get the bank to change, only the channel and program seam to change anything.
You are a life saver! Man...frustration...eliminated! Thank You!
Hi great video, But what about program Change and bank select for choosing patch sounds.
This was really helpful. Thank you!
Sorry, this is probably a newbie type question but what about external soft synths. Thanks.
thank so much i was becoming crazy ! :) do you also know how to make the window of a intrument close and come back easily for easy visualization? thanks !

Hello. On the subject of external MIDI: How do you record a few MIDI tracks and/or sync a multi-timbral workstation such as a KORG M1's sequencer into Logic x. Paul Horsfield Hi
I asked for a similar subject, but in your case you need to go into a track , but you need to select external instrument a window will appear then select your instrument obviously you need to use MIDI options , then track by track you need to record into Logic Pro X
When you have the track recorded MIDI TRACK you can change the sounds using the plugins that you have
The only way that I know is that track by track
Because I believe that Logic Pro X assign the synth like one sound only , so when you have changed your midi sound
Then copy the track you recorded into the new midi track that you must selected before with the sound that you want .
use another track , the same thing before until you've have all your tracks converted into your MIDI PLUGINS, then you could Start to mix and then mastered
I hope I could help you

how is the synth connected to the mac? through an interface via midi in?
Interface
I see the interface, no midi data when I go to record
Looking into the daw world ,newbie. thanks👍
My only worry is when I have my Novation Nova hooked up, how does Logic remember all my performance program and filter settings cause I'm sure I'll never be able to recall them??
did you connect the micro brute through an audio interface or did you use the USB port?
All the tutorials dealing with external synths show how to set up from scratch, but not how to deal with importing a whole/half finished track :/
Any advice on what would be the standard way of tackling this situation would be really helpful. Cheers!
So here's my question. I have a Critter and Guitari Bolsa Bass. I have the machine running through a quarter inch cable into my UA Apollo Duo interface. No MIDI. Can I make this work the same way?
This is all very well, but how do you actually connect your external instruments?
Any help
Hi, great video, helped a lot! Unfortunately I am unable to use effects on the external instrument channel, do you know why that might be?
Hello. I got analog drum machine plugged via USB / Audio inputs via Scarlett 2i2. Midi data is recorded. But when i switch off the drum machine I cannot hear any audio, plus I've noticed that no audio is recorded on the same channel.
I would think these are connected both via midi and audio to enable this?
What if you have TWO midi hardware synths, and you want to use BOTH as controllers depending on whether you want to use either of the hardware synths’ external sounds, or use one of them to control any number of software synths?
How did you have your microbrute hooked up? Just a usb midi cable? Also, do you have to print the midi data as an audio track once you are done recording midi?
I followed the exact instructions but there is no Aux 1 in my mixer when I go look.... Just "Inst 1", "Stereo Out" and "Master" So I am stuck at this step.....
How can you program parameter changes into the track? For example, turn a chorus that is ON THE SYNTH off/on via midi? Is it possible?
Hey guys, when i try to add my micro brute into my macbook i just get a feedback loop which sounds awful and nearly blows out my speakers. Any advice on MIDI settings? It's a brand new, top-end MacBook and the micro brute has hardly been used since purchase.
Hey was having no problems playing an instrument while listening on garage band but now that I upgraded to logic I cant seem to do it now.
I tried doing the same things from garage but not working with logic....any advice
HI THERE
I watched your video tutorial , and I found it very interesting , but I have a question 4 u
How can I us my LOGIC PRO X like an external sequencer .
I hope you can solve my question or maybe clarify the correct way to do that
thanks a lot for your time
greetings from CHILE SOUTHAMERICA
When I open external instrument, it doesn't have the midi destination drop down box, like yours has!? Do you know why at all? Cheers
sorry about my dumb question but, what happens when you want to launch that track and you have not the keyboard you recorded with you? how do you load the sound??? i have tried to record some sound from my MOXF8, they sound when the keyboard is plugged, but if i change the sound to record another track then the first one is gone...why??? i would really appreciate your help.
I have a question, is it easy to get Logic Pro X to record midi cc data from the Microbrute, knob twists etc? Thanks
Hello! Great Video!!! You solved a big question I had! But now I have another one. Following the process shown, I can record the MIDI notes from my external instrument, but not the changes I done while recording. I mean, if I am changing the cutoff, the envelope, the resonance.. how all those changes could be recorded? Thanks!!
I had the same question but he doesn't seem to respond to anything. Did you figure it out?
Thanks but the audio comes out of the synths, not the Logic so can not record the audio. why would this be?
Hi, Can I write music with a module that just have IN midi and not out?
how do you bounce though? Once I disconnect my keyboard, the midi input remains, but the sound is gone... I assume this means I have to bounce the track? But that doesn't work it just leaves me with an empty track
yes pls
+ouss mayo i discovered one way to do it is to assign the midi track's output to a bus, and then create a new track and assign the input to be that same bus. then record on the new track while your hardware is still plugged in (it will have to play the song), and it will record an AUDIO track of the new track
+jet0l19 ait i will try that thanks man!
+jet0l19 You can also right click on the green clip and find 'export as audio file' and that works too.
yeah the bus then audio tack receiving the bus output works but still seems a rather tedious way of doing things this day in age
Is there anyway we can record the sequencer playing a pattern into Logic Pro X from the MicroBrute?
Ok ive searched everywhere and cant find the answer,,I have ezdrummer and ezdrummer 2,,I also have over 1500 drumless tracks that I want to play along with,,hows it done,,how do you insert a drumless track (mp3) into reaper so you can polay along with it,,can it even be done,,i would just play them on vlc and play along but ezdrummer once opened seems to be the only sound that will come out,,others are muted almost,,is it a software issue or is it as simple as putting in a decent soundcard to handle both,,im using the aiso driver at present,,any help would be appreciated,,
Can u do this with a usb input? or do u need to hook up to an interface to use the sounds in your synth/keyboard/etc?
Yes
hey, any help for me? Im using live 9 with similar settings as in logic with external instrument plugin.. i get midi and audio BUT when i play the track back in my DAW, theres no sound! cheers
So as far as my connections between the synth and the computer go, do I need both an audio line in from the midi to the daw as well as a usb midi connection? Or can it all go over the midi alone?
Bro I’ve been trying to figure this out forever... will logic record the mid wheel changes as well?
Would this be possible by just connecting my Monologue through USB? Or doesnt the USB carry sound?
Hi, I have a nord rack and can't seem to get to play in logic, it receives the signal but doesn't send it back, and if i press the trigger button it sends signal to the DAW but no sound. hope you can help, bit desperate. Thanks, Pedro
I had to turn on MMR machine control or something like that in the prefs.
what i'm having trouble with now is getting it to record on the correct midi channel only not the highlighted track! ugh.
Great video, I'm using a moog slim phatty which is connected via a usb cable how can i record automation in..
Can you use ultra beat's sequencer to trigger the Synth via midi out in real time? Without copy and pasting the region?
Hey there, is there a way I could take Logic's instruments and somehow use them in another DAW ? Such as Maschine ?
I want to use more than one sound out of my keyboard for my tracks in logic 10 but as soon as i record my first sound from my keyboard into logic, if i make a new instrument track with a different sound out of my keyboard, then the first track changes to whatever sound i changed it to for the second track..(my keyboard also has a built in audio interface that i use) i need help in learning how to use multiple sounds from my keyboard to logic without every instrument changing when i want a new sound
hope I'm making sense..its hard to explain
When i remove the external instrument (roland juno ds) then the midi data recorded is visually still there but doesnt have the sound. How do you get the sounds from your external instrument to stay as midi when the instrument has been removed?
Oliver Ellison
You still need to use audio cables. Midi doesn’t transmit audio.
How do you get the audio and midi to record on one track?
Hi there
sorry I have a Korg Krome and I can record the sound into the logic pro x
1-look for external instrument
2-Play the sound
3-record it
4-then assign an audio track with an bus assignment
5-the midi data recorded it using your kronos will be displayed like MIDI write
6-the info recorded ( MIDI) ASSIGN the gain to de output bus
7- the audio track must be assigned to the bus of your midi info recorded with your kronos
8-Record it in real time , and then you will have your sound converted into an audio track I recorded a COMBI with arp and drum track and it will be recorded into an audio track completely
When you have the audio track you can do everything you wants , but in MIDI option I think is impossible to manipulate it completely obviously fx , quantize option you can do it
I hope this tips help you ,
greetings from CHILE Southamerica
Thanks a lot man, I didn't do it exactly as you said but taking the time to provide an answer is already priceless, so thank you anyway again!!
Dida Rakotoarison No problem , I tried to help I know sometimes we are very jammed in some matters , so it happened to me and i found the answer , not so fast as I wanted , but I found it...greetings
Dida Rakotoarison are you bouncing in offline mode or realtime? You have to bounce in realtime or your external gear will not record.
Actually I made it already, so I don't need help anymore, thank you though
I have and audio cable running from my microbrute to my audio interface and a midi cable running from the microbrutes midi in to the interfaces midi out. I got sound to come through the external instrument track without an audio track, but it wont record anything. Do i need both cables or do i just need the midi? Im wondering how he has it connected to his computer via interface. i cant figure it out would be great if someone had an answer
THANK YOU
do you know how to use a second laptop with say windows and ableton as a host for vst's and recieve midi into logic x?
Idk if im watching the rite video. But I was looking for how to record the built-in sounds from my midi keyboard? Mine's a yamaha PSR-E423
when i listen back there is no audio in the track. i see the printed midi that i have just played but nothing, audio
having the same problem
Me too
are you guys still having this issue? might be able to help
not hearing audio whats the solution
did u figure it out mate?
im having the same issue
not getting anysounds via midi
follow all steps but no soundssszz .. well i guess might be the audio interface im using virus snow ? could that be it ?
hey,how do i find the interface control panel ??
Good tutorial
Nice one mate
why are you using an aux track as an audio track?
Great video
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO
I have this problem too!!!!!!!
Great video thx allot
using a microbute.... i got it to work a few times, but now i just cant figure it out again
Wow thanks man
is there a way to just simply record live from a microkorg into logic as audio. not as midi. cheers
If you have a DA/AD converter (interface) with 1/4" jacks you can use the output of the Microkorg L/R outs to go into your DA/AD converter then to your DAW as audio. However, it's much better to use MIDI if you want to change anything.
Hey brad i use the microkorg but cant seem to get the midi side of it working..
I need a lot more info. First did you remove the 1/4" plugs? Often they will override the MIDI outs. Second, does your DAW have MIDI in?
Have you anyway i could contact you? No i didnt remove the audio jacks, my DAW is logic pro, and i can use my MK as a midi keyboard to play software instruments, but i cant use my MK to playback midi that ive made on the daw.
Nicky, I'm really not the guy you need, as everything I do is straight audio (bass, guitars, drums, vocals). I would imagine you'd need to connect the midi in port from your A/D converter's MIDI out port to play it, but I do not know how that works. Wish I could be more helpful.
My question is:
I use a laptop, so if I did this, would it still work if I brought my laptop somewhere without the synth with me?
+Isaac Anderson Uhm no? Because your extern synthesizer is the actual source of your signal, it gives you the actual sound. Logic only reads that source. It's like you would take a piano with you, but without the strings inside which make the tones. ;)
+tecktonikboy13 That makes sense.
I guess I wont be doing this then ;-;
+tecktonikboy13 Wait, if that is the case, then what if I were to share the song in iTunes/soundcloud, etc? would it not still work?
a song is something completely different than a synthesizer. a song is some kind of file ur pc/daw creates/exports and it will be read anytime and everywhere. casual mp3 or whatever it will be, u know what I mean... a synthesizer is a plugin, u can create sounds with, in a daw for example. there are many vst plugins etc. u can install an use them anytime u want. but with external instruments its different. for example the virus ti... u can only use the plugin in ur daw if ur virus is connected to ur pc/daw. the virus is ur actual sound source, and works different than some downloadable plugins. other example would be waldorf blofeld or whatever u'll use. they actually work all the same, with some exceptions... ;)
+tecktonikboy13 I'm still waiting for you to answer my question. :-(
I've never used a PC DAW before.
I have my moog sub 37 hooked up via USB. It doesnt seem to be making any sounds... what am I doing wrong. I also have a scarlet 2i4 handy.
