    Nice one. I learnt one way of preparing unripe plantain. In Ghana, we do so many things with green (unripen) as well as the ripened ones.
    Ghanaians use the ripened plantain to prepare something similar to what you've done.
    Oooohhh, our kind of food; I mean, the black man's food, we can go on and on, till day breaks.
    Thank you for your endeavours.

    Thanks. I picked up 2 Plantain for my first experence with Plantanos.
    I tried this with a single green Plantain. My first try was I could taste the salt - I must have used too much salt. I didn't taste much sweetness at all. BUT, it was an interesting experience. Now, I used our Fry Daddy and deep fried (in vegetable oil, Wesson Oil) the Plantain in the used oil we use for French Fries that maybe was the reason for little sweet taste.
    I have one more Plantain that I am going let well ripen and try this for a second time. Looking for the sweet taste.

    • @YardieBelly
      @YardieBelly  2 года назад +2

      Ok so we use the green plantains for this recipe which are not sweet at all. The ripe ones cannot be pressed because they get soft when fried. tostones are different from fried ripe plantains

      You can also fry the ripe plantains and they are a delicious sweet/savory side dish. Just fry them once. Add a little salt or not for taste. You can also make ripe plantain "lasagna". In Puerto Rico we call it Piñón. To make this you cut the ripe plantains along and fry them. Make some "picadillo" or stewed hamburger meat. Use the plantain strips as you would use pasta in lasagna. Create several layers. Some people put battered egg at the bottom to hold everything in place. At the top add shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese and put it in the oven till the cheese melts. The combination of sweet from the plantains and savory from the meat and cheese is delicious. You can find recipes under "Piñon" or "Pastelón de platano".

      Jamaicans will have it with a number of different things, Ackee and Saltfish, Callaoo, Cabbage, etc. It's mainly used as breakfast but we don't care when we get it as long as we do... lol
