Should have been GR Corolla vs GR86. As much as the BRZ and GR86 are similar, they are miles apart. The average consumer wouldn’t notice the difference. In suspension. Your comment is like saying the difference between the scoville units in a ghost pepper and a Carolina reaper pepper don’t matter because they were both too hot for the average person. Not in this lifetime. And I know we all want to and should encourage each other to be ambitious and aspirational, but frankly the majority of the people watching these videos won't either. But a lot of us could afford a GR Corolla, at least the base one. A lot of us could afford a Subaru BRZ. It will be a very sad day if the newest fun, sporty cars all become completely out of reach for the middle-class consumer, and all we're left with that we can afford are crossover SUVs and EV sedans.
It's not really a big deal that we don't get either of these; the GR Corolla is just a fatter, heavier GR Yaris and the BRZ is a GR86 in all but name and smiley face. Still, as long as you're having fun...

Y’all are ridiculous. This is blown out of proportion. Does it occur? @@robertulrich3964 sure, there were 2 hours between sessions, which is pretty standard for many time attack and racing groups. My point being it is an issue but not one that many people see in the real world because most people aren’t going to be racing these at a more strenuous rate than that. The biggest fallacy I see is people in particular indicating that all it takes is 1 - 3 laps. This may be the case for a small minority but in my experience driving on track and talking to other owners in the groups I’ve driven in, I’ve yet to hear anyone actually run into the issue. Again not to say it doesn’t exist, it’s just not THAT prominent. Same with the oil pressure issues in the GR86/BRZ does it exist? Yes. Have the vast majority of owners who track their 86/BRZ run into the consequences of this? Not from what I’ve seen. Sucks it’s an issue and it shouldn’t be one but you can certainly take the car out for a track day and the majority of the population won’t do more than that because of how cost prohibitive it is to race.

Should have been GR Corolla vs GR86. As much as the BRZ and GR86 are similar, they are miles apart. The BRZ is tuned to be more of a luxurious type of drive, where the GR86 is to be more performance driven. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, drive them both. Factory tuning has made a dramatic difference between the two cars
yes, the suspension in a brz is so much nicer and not as harsh. i found it to be a better ride than my ford edge sport which is crazy
@@brzo. nicer for cruising around, not for performance driving. Still not ‘bad’ for performance driving, but not even close to the GR86. The BRZ is still a fun car, though
The average consumer wouldn’t notice the difference. In suspension. You have to understand these channels have people that drive them back to back on the track and have tons of Miles with sports cars. The average consumer should buy what brand they like or what is available. The suspension tuning is blownout of proportion.
The UK already gets the GR86.
@@tone3560 the consumer for this car is enthusiasts. There will always be non-enthusiasts that buy these types of cars (think of all the rich people with Ferraris that never do anything with them), but the general target market is enthusiasts, even for this channel. That’s why someone who is not an enthusiast won’t watch TGs videos nor understand anything that they are saying. I was merely saying that the suspension AND TUNING of the BRZ is much more softer than that of the GR86, which for a track test is not ideal in giving the twins a proper look. Your comment is like saying the difference between the scoville units in a ghost pepper and a Carolina reaper pepper don’t matter because they were both too hot for the average person. Yeah, the average person doesn’t need to know the difference in scoville units because they will never try something like that, but for someone who does like the increase in heat that difference is very different
You have a lot of nerve to complain. We don't get the GR Yaris in the US or Canada. You may not have a GR Corolla missing a back seat but we don't have a Corolla Touring Sports with or without a back seat.
Come join your brethren here in Australia, we get them all! :-)
These cars have big differences in price and aren't directly comparable by any metric.
God, finally, someone who doesn’t blindly sing AWD praises. You always know who’s just an entertainer vs a car enthusiast when they start talking about AWD.
I always pick the Subaru BRZ.
You get the GR Yaris. We get the GR Carolla. Very similar. The yaris is actually closer to the rally car than the Carolla.
Feel like we are spoilt in Oz for once we have GR Corolla, GR Yaris, GR86 and BRZ and all right hand drive.
in 2014, if you ever told anyone that THE top gear would be reduced to a non-descript RUclips channel with a 1% engagement rate, you'd have been sent straight to a mental facility.
As a north american I've only ever thought about it vice versa. All the cool cars you can get in europe but not in NA such as most good transit vans and even the new yaris + GR yaris. You guys have even gotten some interesting pickup trucks that we didn't get which sounds weird saying it, such as the vw and mercedes attempts.

6:19 This hits dead-on why I enjoy these videos so much more than videos about a Porsche 911 or Lexus LFA or whatever is the latest and most amazing supercar. Those are interesting, sure, and it's cool to see how far automotive engineering can be pushed. But what does any of that have to do with my life? I will never own one of those cars.
Why are they reposting so many videos??
The winner is : Subaru BRZ ...
Until its its time to change the sparkplug.......
America is condemned to automatics and CVTs. Lots of manuals still in Europe and Australia. Would love a Crosstrek with the BRZ engine and 6 speed! And would love to have a 6 speed in my 4Runner. Luckily, I have a 6 speed '22 BRZ. Awesome little car! Thank you Subaru (and Toyota)
GR Corolla 🔥🔥🔥
🤮
Complaining you didn’t get the Corolla? Well we didn’t get the little Yaris, am I to not complain about that? I’d rather the little Yaris.
Politics regulates what cool cars we can, and cannot, sell wherever you live! It’s a horrible travesty that must be changed!! Love you all
I think the new corollas are really good looking cars
I think they've posted this already
Yes they have about a month ago, hopefully someone can explain what changed between videos?
The irony of them complaining of getting cool cars where the US is oversaturated with SUVs and Wagons.
Would gladly trade a GR Corolla for the better car: the GR Yaris
I opened the video because it was Top Gear, I closed the video because it isnt Top Gear
BRZ STI.....THE GR COROLLA IS TOPPED OUT....THE BRZ IS NORMAL...of course the corolla performs better
Wow 😮. 😊. I’m with the COROLLA GR
Crazy thing is that in Mexico, both cars cost almost the same, close to 40 k USD. Good thing is that you can you still buy an MX5 for 28 k USD. What happen to you Subaru? something like 10 years ago, for the same amount of money you can buy an STI.
"faced by English and European people" like if england wasn't Europe 😂😂
England is only part of Europe when they want to be 🤣🤣
The GR86 has much better styling and can be optioned with a Porsche-like duck spoiler and a performance resonance exhaust. It truly is beautiful in person. The GR Corolla is also great looking with the wide body kit. I hope you guys eventually get your chance in the U.K. Cheers.
51,000 for a Corolla .. “ relatively affordable” what are you smoking buddy. I remember when the SRT four came out and you could get it for 20 grand..
me when i know how inflation works
@@shanetoscano2037 inflation sure… pay has not increased to compensate. There isn’t any middle class 25-40 year old man buying a $51,000 corolla right now or with Biden rates. Give me a break
that is completely true, but it's also not a biden thing at the moment. inflation is currently stable despite the increases over the pandemic
@@shanetoscano2037 the value of US currency is garbage.
Really wish Mitsubishi would make a come back
Awesome review!
What's funny is in America I want the Yaris circuit edition. I'm not a fan of 4-door coups/hatchbacks.
OTOH, I would be interested in the GR Yaris and we can't get that in the US. And I believe you can get the GR86 in Europe, which means that not getting the BRZ is no hardship. Regrading your comment on weight on the GR, no performance car ever, ever needed more weight. If the suspension setup is off, fix that. DO NOT wish for a heavier car. If Colin Chapman were alive, he would shun you for that remark.
Truth is that modern day Europe looks more and more like a new age soviet behemoth... Kudos for taking a stance!
Grass is always greener? North America doesn't get any proper station wagons, so I'll never feel badly because the UK misses out on a limited run production sports car that is hardly even actually available here unless you are willing to spend over MSRP for the privilege of owning a sought after vehicle.
They can buy a Corolla wagon with or without a back seat.
You can most definitely get these cars into the UK, all one as to do is import them in from Japan, problem solved.
great, but it's a pity that you didn't check the times of both😢
8:35 $31k is a lot of money for a small little coupe. It really should be mid 20's.
No. A base Corolla or Civic are mid 20s. This "small coupe" is a bargain for a couple thousands more.
@@oemj7147 a base corolla is low 20s. I would still argue that 31 is too much for a smaller car with a manual trans, non turbo, and still cheap interior. Even a civic si is high 20s, and that a much bigger car.
Try drifting a corolla or civic and see what that extra money gets you.
@@harrybuhse8622 damn harry I just realized, a base wrx is cheaper! Lol
@@barsaf9989 So a Porsche should cost less than an Accord because it's smaller? The Civic SI is a FWD econobox. A lot less car than an RWD sports car like the BRZ/GR86 or a Miata.
Title: BRZ vs GR Corolla
Intro: this is not a comparison
GR corolla is a terrible car if your comparing it at the pricepoint of what its at. Also terrible platform that japan shops arent really getting into. I was a gr corolla fan till i talked to some people who actually track with it
GR Corolla, is an epic piece of machine!
The TC GR hot hatch actually looks better than that BRZ!
Stop leaning on the paint with jeans on that could have metal bits on the back.
Any overheating issues?
On the track, the oil temps of the GR Corolla gets kinda hot, like 240-260F hot. They need to upgrade the system,
The coolant system however? Absolutely solid, no higher than 215F
Driving Fwd on the 10/10ths limit is actually more challenging than awd to left foot brake weight transfer and actually most fwd rarely let go of the throttle in cornering and liftover oversteer cars rears with precision in turns that seasoned rwd and awd drivers struggle to replicate without tons of practice
The only cars that were missed on the test: The Elantra N and Civic type R
If somebody died leaving Jeremy Clarkson on top gear woke up to see this bet they'd be disappointed 😂
YOU DONT GET ANYTHING!?!?!? You get the GR Yaris :) among so many others
i want to see more Jethro !
Toyota Corolla,Yaris GR manual transmission is something else..
Good trans terrible clutch, too soft the dual mass isn't great. I'm speaking from ownership before people get offended lol
Love Jethro!! Also, please be honest: how many laps did that diff last before it heat soaked and left you in FWD only? My money is on 1.
Y’all are ridiculous. This is blown out of proportion. Does it occur? Yes absolutely - however depending on your skill level and other factors - such as weather, tire wear, etc it is not that prevalent. I recently went to Arizona Motorsports park and did a total of 80 min on track (4 20 min sessions) and had absolutely zero issues with the diff. albeit im not a pro driver but neither is 99% of the population.
@@GearHead_Mediahow how much time between the sessions? maybe the diff had time to cool down between them.
I want that corolla in germany. now.
9.30 were are we supposed to enjoy this car in the UK? Our roads are ....... Can't drive more than 70 MPH!
dont need to go fast with the brz to have fun, not like you can go too fast in one tho
The Yaris is based on a real rally car. Why complain? It’s lighter too.
In fact, the GR corollais bot easy to get in N.America at all. Its so hot in sale that ost dealers add a mark up to it and eventually not as affaordable as you said. And Morizo version? Well its as rare as urben legend. so think about it.
Wouldn't necessarily want to track the new BRZ/GR86 with the oiling issue that's been going on and the fact that Toyota and Subaru will not warranty a fix even though the problem is due to their poor design
I'd swam a Honda F20C into the BRZ/GR86
You can’t blame Toyota for it, blame your government. It’s crazy that they even brought the GR86 over there knowing it would only go for two years. They’ve done all they can.
the drift king is jeremy clarkson good as well as the lessons😉
The title was miss leading...
$37k for a 3-cylinder - not a lot of money? Not even a contest between those two cars - Corolla is a FWD in its core and has only 3 cylinders. BRZ costs less and has true sport car layout.
Former FKT owner now a Gr Corolla owner. Have you driven one? It’s awesome. The BRZ/86 are great too. They’re just different. Also, I like the 3 chili see in the GR more than the Type R engine. More personality. It’s not always about a spec sheet.
It’s a Subaru compared to a Toyota. Toyota have been the far superior cars for at least the last 30 years.
Evo is a FWD in its core and only has 4 cylinders. It’s crap too right?GT3 is a 6 cylinder for 200k over priced right? Must mean that’s crap too. Oh yea that’s not a true sports car layout because its engine is in the back and not the front like the BRZ.
@@nickyates7542Your ignorance is as inexcusable as your bias.
@@Holmesson suck it
"Two years worth of cars sold in 90 minutes." Is that really true?
The GR Corolla is as expensive as the Civic Type R.
Better performance for the $ sport cars: Elantra N and the twins GR86/BRZ 👍
Well the EU need to stop moaning about CO2 emission from cars.. much bigger pollution sources than that , then we can have fun again.
Just imagine the when time comes and most EVs will require battery replacement , ohh it's going to be fun watching !
Also , would there be EV classics ? I doubt it.
Good things are happening on the collecting cars channel now folks. Thank me later.
The true injustice is we never got the Yaris, but toyota was good to us with the Gr Corolla
This show is still on TV?
Yay Jethro!
We get the new CTR which has been widely acclaimed and testers say its much better all around than the Corolla GR, we do get the Toyota GR86 which you obviously know is exactly the same car as the Subaru. There are some cool cars from USA we don't get, how about you actually show those instead?
The UK needs Toyota Tundras.
