Entertainment Personality and Entrepreneur, Charlamagne Tha God, a.k.a Lenard McKelvey, joins The Pivot Podcast for a conversation covering everything from mental health to evolving as men personally and professionally and his approach to growth as he continues to expand his entertainment empire. Keying in on the changes and steps as men they can all take to be better friends, husbands, dads and role models for younger generations. Not shying away from his shortcomings and mistakes over the years, he acknowledges the wrongs he did personally and professionally but is proud of who he is today. The guys talk about men in position to succeed and allowing the weaknesses of women, sex and ego take away from the hard work is the biggest mystery to him as they talk about the recent situation with Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka and the lessons that can be learned.
Ryan, Fred, and Channing dive into his journey and his transformation to stardom as he opens up about changing his name to his upbringing and environment. Growing up and hustling was part of his daily grind and recognizing his time as a drug dealer, Charlamagne was headed down a dangerous path when his life changed doing local radio.
Infamously known for his hot takes and wide open opinions on celebrities that would trigger negative reactions, Charlamagne tells the guys that it has never been his intention to rile people up, he was just always speaking honestly and saying the things everyone thought but was afraid to say. Never giving up on his dream, even after being fired several times, the years of experience and relationships led him to creating a media empire and recently being inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, Charlamagne reflects on his path and recognizes to Fred, Channing, and Ryan that there are definitely things he wishes he could redo or should have held back on when speaking on others lives and careers but the biggest compliment to him is acknowledging the growth from that place to where he is now.
Although he had and currently has what others consider the “perfect life”, Charlamagnes opens up and shares with the guys that there were very dark times and there was always this undiscovered void to fill. Influenced at an early age by his surroundings and environment, Charlemagne was on the verge of self-sabotage due to infidelity and substance abuse until he made the Pivot seven years ago to attend therapy which has been life-changing.
Therapy and counseling have always been frowned upon in black communities and Charlamagne has set out to change that philosophy and instill a new approach with one of seeking help and preventing activities to promote self sabotage instead of encouraging it. Fred also shares his struggles of anxiety over the years and how therapy has helped ground him and offer him alternatives to get through certain situations which he shares hoping to help others in similar situations.
Charlamagne also talks about the upcoming changes for the popular global morning show The Breakfast Club and lets everyone know that change is part of the process and that opportunities for others is what life is all about and spins the changes into a positive vs the drama everyone wants to create around it. Transition has been the most rewarding part of his life and continues to use his experiences to help others and shape the lives of young people, starting with his own family.

These men either encourage feelings of change and growth, or validate the path of growth one is already on! It’s not often you can feel true and genuine vibes through a screen or network, but you three never fail at it. Best podcast/show out there. Salute 💪🏾✊🏾❤️

I cannot say enough how appreciative I am of Fred for opening up. This was an amazing episode
Yeah to hear him talk about his own mental health....this was refreshing to see men so vulnerable and on their own paths to wholeness.

Totally agreed ❤
💯
Fred, your vulnerability had me tearing up. My son is 20, he deals with anxiety/depression and refuses to go to therapy bc it’s not “cool”. Nor is there a strong male force in his life to help him understand how it can help him. I’m gonna have him watch this interview to listen at how multimillionaire men can still have the same issue he has and get help. Thanks for sharing, Fred. You don’t know how much this helped me! ♥️🙌🏾
And let him know therapy can be in the privacy of your home now with telehealth. I have used Talkspace.
@@lugo_ayana Yes, I have all the basics covered and the initial issue is he doesn't want anything to do with therapy. I'm gonna keep praying, not give up and assist with as much guidance as I can.
You should also share their Michael Beasley interview as well
@@TBtheking405216 Wow! I completely forgot about the interview with MB. Thank you.
@Aries Girl: My son is the same way☹️ his father died when he was young and he never met him. I've been in this battle with him to talk about it and get it out I truly hope that you're able to reach him and find someone he trusts to release his feelings too.
Thanks Charlemagne and Fred for being so vulnerable about your mental health struggles. Representation Matters! Maybe someone will use your stories to seek guidance. I chose not to say “help” because of the stigma around that term.
Absolutely agree!
I agree, my perspective is that avoiding the word “help” doesn’t do us justice. We need help sometimes. We don’t have to do everything ourselves and help should be welcomed with no stigma or strings.
50 year old white guy here. Jags - Fred Taylor fan ....This episode is powerful. Charlamagne and Fred hit home for all of us
Was it mental health when he put Spanish fly in a minors drank and had sex with her while she was passed out?

“The process of perception provokes the panic”. Yo Fred T was on one with this episode. Straight fire 🔥. I salute all these men.
Pivot, take a bow!!!! This conversation with Charlemagne, was by far, one of the best I've seen, it even makes me look at him differently. Thank you and great job!!!

"The process of perception, provokes the panic" - Always dropping gems! Keep it going KINGS!! 👑👑👑
The vulnerability and openness that Fred and Charlemagne displayed with help so many men with their mental help. It also helps women to navigate these spaces when dealing men and mental help. Dope episode…per usual.
Absolutely ‼️‼️
Mental health... it's called mental health...
God work is UNMATCHED! I needed this episode exactly in this moment 😢 thank y’all immensely cause man I’ve been battling a ton of things. Thank y’all thank y’all 🙏🏾 please keep it going cause God us moving through you guys!
Stay up bro you not in it alone ❗️❗️first step to to a better life is is self evaluation. You are a winner
You're not alone, and things get better 🙏🏼. With God on your side there is no fear
As a young man, I just want to say I appreciate the knowledge and information y’all bring to the table each episode. In this episode I learned that there is still hope and you can recover. Personally want to thank y’all for being vulnerable in this episode because it gave me a “father figure” conversation and advice on infidelity. Now imagine not even knowing what the word meant until you watched this episode! EXCELLENT WORK GENTLEMEN.
I think I smiled and laughed throughout this interview. Always refreshing to hear Fred speak more. A great conversation from men making a difference.
Yea, allat coo, but, wut yo numba? 👀
I truly appreciate Charlamagne and Fred for sharing their stories. I am so proud of the black men that are opening up to therapy. It's not a sign of weakness. It's a powerful sign of strength. Let's celebrate breaking these generational curses to allow healing. Hats off to all of you.
Chan revealed he still felt a way about being donkey of the day. I love these dudes honesty.
FABULOUS EPISODE 👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯💯. The Pivot Podcast helps me in my personal life. I absolutely enjoy listening, learning and being entertained. SHOUT OUT TO CC RC FT AND THE ENTIRE PIVOT PODCAST CREW.
These deep mental health conversations are so important and much appreciated. Love this podcast 🙌🏾 salute to the pivot! ✊🏾

I remember growing up and thought Leonard was a cornball. He was truly wreckless at the mouth. It wasn't until over quarantine that I started watching The Breakfast Club. Watching the person he's become and Fred being able to relate and release is TRULY so beautiful to see.
Thank you RC, Channanigans and Freddy Flowers for providing us viewers with the definition of PIVOT 🙌🙌
I’m struggling right now with my mental health and trying to find myself again after I suffered a tremendous loss in my family. Seeing discussions like this really do mean a lot and help me cope with my trauma. You guys are the best podcast around, thanks a lot!!!!
Man, stay up King. You can conquer that mental health demon, you got this!!!!!
Taking and knowing that you are I'm control is the first step. Once you get into the space of letting go what you cannot control you get to live more in the moment.

Another great episode! Love to see men, black men discuss mental health, growth, and navigating life.
THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE YET !!! So so so many important points hit on in this episode that needs to be talked about deeply in our communities. I love this podcast man keep going guys. Incredible
MAN!!! I LOVE THIS PODCAST!!! KEEP GOING - KEEP GROWING!!!
This conversation is so necessary. I always tell my sons that if they ever feel overwhelmed by school, family relationships (or lack thereof) and life in general they should tell me so that I can seek the requisite help for them. When it comes to their mental well being, our home is a safe, no judgment zone.
This podcast keeps getting better!! A variety of guests keeps me intrigued!! Shout out to Ryan Fred & Channing!! Keep up the great work!
I loved this dialogue! Being a therapist specializing in anxiety I hear so many key areas of importance being discussed. Great tips to take away for managing panic attacks, acknowledging your own trigger of anxiety/worry and the challenge of perception! Self exploration is soooooo key! Mental health and the culture!
This was HUGE! Black Men…. We gotta look at this in all aspects…. So many gems
Man I didn’t know char was like this y’all really pivoting the podcast culture giving people the safe space to speak
I appreciate how people like Charlemagne and Brandon Marshall and Fred have made it much more acceptable for us to talk openly about mental health. For years black folks tried to pray it away.
Fred really gave it to us this episode. I so loved this!!!
Pivot Podcast Team, thanks for this Pivot Podcast with Channing C., Ryan C., Fred T., and Lenard M. (C.T.G.). Appreciate this in depth interview with C.T.G. sharing his story of change, grace, humility, and constantly evolving. Seeing this side of C.T.G. is enlightening and displays a level of self reflection and intelligence that we do not get to see when he is in character as C.T.G. on the Breakfast Club. Thanks for being so transparent C.T.G. Have a newfound respect for you. And I laugh every time I watch the Birdman interview. It is classic.
Every time I watch this podcast I learn so much about the people and I learn something about myself. Just one hour and each one of these men dropped so many gems. Real men in real conversations. So powerful.
Four grown black men talking about mental health… I love it 🙌🏿🙌🏿💯
"I'm behind the building, Brad! Come find me, Brad!" - Channing Crowder
Best lines ever.
I truly appreciate The Pivot for having these conversations that we otherwise would not even talk about in our community. Your mental health is so important and we need to make it normal to speak on it and get help when it's needed. Good interview with Charla and continue hitting us with these great episodes. 👏🏾👏🏾
This podcast made me realize that I might actually have anxiety and that it could also be what is hindering my asthma from being better (most people in my family got over it). All the times of staying up, overthinking about all the bad scenarios that could possibly happen in life and going down the worst possible rabbit holes of all time are actually because of anxiety... That's really revolutionary and full circle that his podcast made me realize that. I've had therapists that didn't get this right but I feel like a new part of me is opened up and I'm happy about that because it means I'll finally know how to deal with it to a degree of course.
You can never truly get rid of something like that but as Fred said, by not putting myself in situations that will cause anxiety, I will be much better off in life and live a much healthier lifestyle. Thank you pivot cast. 🙏🏿
This was a great interview! Real conversations and changing the narrative 👏🏾👏🏾
I honestly believe that my biggest Pivot is about to take place due to this episode. Currently in Anxiety/Depression therapy for two months… and waiting for a phone call (As I type this comment) to discuss recently discovered growth in my left Kidney.
So grateful for what all four of you do.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! GOD bless you all!
I've never seen this side of Charlemagne. He seems to be truly healed from his pains and traumas and has truly evolved.
Very good interview!
Fred is so sensitive ,strong ,and intelligent . This show was so intentional. ❤
Weak man
The Pivot is a great space where celebrities and public figures can just come and be humans.
That was straight fire 🔥 the whole convo was dope as hell love who Charlamagne has become definitely someone I look up to thank you for the inspiration king!
Takes mad skill to interview someone so known, with multiple books, dope convo so far. 🎯
There are plenty of people in this world that have written multiple books. Published books isn’t a measure of one’s intellect.
You missed the whole point my guy. The point he was making was he is well known with also multiple books talking about himself, so how do you interview some one when all their info is already well known and very public and still make it interesting
Had nothing to do with being smart
This was one of your top 5 episodes! And that’s saying a lot! Amazing work kings🔥
I love Fred so much!! This is by far his best episode.
This was super dope! Thanks Fred for opening up about your mental health.. y’all just keep getting better 🔥
Mental health is an excuse
To listen to these conversations you guys touched on is amazing! I was not able to sit down and have any discussion with my pops about life in general. I took a lot from this! I will do my best to apply these jewels to my life !!!!
In my opinion, this is the root of why some Americans have to dehumanize Black Men… cause y’all are POWERFUL and command a certain kind of Gem-ship. Thank you for doing your Soul work and making it public!! I will pass this on to young black men I know.
HAHAHAHHAHAHA😂
I got to mention Fred's Cap is

Thanks Charlamagne for being so open & truthful during your healing process. The Pivot hit another one out of the Park (or made a Touchdown)!! Good Job fellas!! :)

Whew!!! Just when you think episodes can’t get any better. The transparency among you amazing men is soooo incredible. This conversation was scrupulously honest and so very necessary. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for removing the blinds from all the windows and letting us have a birds eye view. God bless you gentlemen and your families ❤
This is by far one of the best podcast on RUclips
At this point, I’m convinced the Pivot can get even the Pope on their show! 😅
This was another great episode & how much I learn and respect this convo that can help all of us

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 This show was so dope to experience. This is now one of my favorite episodes. Thank you to the PIVOT team and CTG for this powerful dialogue.
If it not too much to ask can y’all do a update on Michael Beasley plz 🥰🥰🥰
We must protect the podcast by all cost❤!
I❤men having smart vulnerable conversations… this is the type content we need to go viral 💪🏾
The Pivot is something else man! Every episode does great, learning and growing. The space they create for guests is amazing! As a veteran, I have PTSD and have had to have multiple surgeries which caused me to be unable to do a lot of things as simple as walk for a long period of time, and I still have issues just simply playing with my kids or picking up my babies and I had depression and didn't even know it. So dealing with thoughts and emotions that you dont know how to is extremely difficult! This was a great episode, and a teaching episode!
@Davvion Thompson In addition to the great conversation we watched, your comment will help more people than you may ever know. You are an inspiration as well. Thank you for sharing your own experience!!! 👏👏👏👏

I loved the conversation about how to keep your kids grounded ..I don’t have a lot but me and my kids travel 2 or 3 times a year and I want to teach them everyone doesn’t have this privilege…but after this conversation I’m wondering why am I so adamant about teaching them that ..I just want them to never think they are better than anyone because I was the little girl that never took vacation, got my passport in my 30s
this episode was awesome, shockingly so. Well done by everyone. Charlamagne had some real stuff to say. I'm a fan of the podcast and this may have been the best episode for me.
you guys are great. i am glad that you touched on mental health. I am too strong to give in but so down I'm stuck. so thank you for sharing this today
Thank you Fred and Charlemagne for sharing so openly about your mental health struggles and what helps to manage it. It is so vital for black men to seek help and healing for what they are experiencing. I love that these black men who have influence really demonstrate how they can be vulnerable. It is so vital for other men to see it is ok to get help and to be vulnerable. We have to create these safe spaces. I feel black people in general have had their experiences minimized and we as a culture have said to pray it away as the men discussed but something’s need a professional and even sometimes medication to manage what they are feeling. Representation matters and I am so grateful for their genuine conversation!! This is an amazing episode!
Self sabotage. Man you said a mouth full. I would like to meet him one day, very knowledgeable guy and I’m glad the pivot made this happen.
I can’t say thank you enough for the podcast. I got so much from this one and things I can apply to myself and family. Thank you.
