    I jumped on an open box sale. 1300 off still expensive but who doesn’t like a sale? It’s been around long enough to see some comparison videos. It’s ability to repeat a profile or tweak it instead of only using the paddle and flying off the seat of your pants every time. The display graph is nice too. Controlling pressure with the pump instead of a valve is an advantage. Built with commercial parts in their commercial factory is impressive. I was never sold on the styling of the Rocket. It always looked generic. This thing is a beast too. 30 minutes to reach temperature and only 1600 watts

    Part of the allure (aside from their amazing espresso making capabilities) of a rocket is the classic look. This one doesn't do it for me. I am sure its great, but I like the looks of my R58 100 times better.

    Great review as always thank you Gale! As a feedback to the manufacture. If your going to put all your controls on a touch screen, make sure its a GREAT touch screen things that make a good touch screen is responsiveness and accuracy especially when its small like that. Watching Gale fiddle with that touch screen makes me realize that is not something i want to fiddle with in the morning

    Pretty funny how coffee culture has come so far that making a rubbish cup of coffee isn't seen as a problem for a marketing pitch (these shouldn't be called reviews because they sell them)

     @SeattleCoffeeGear Great review of a machine that has proven to be a classic and thus your videos are still relevant and useful five years later! My question is regarding the memorization of the manual extraction. When you save a manually (via paddle) extracted profile, does it get translated to the same digital format that breaks the shot down to segments of [# of seconds -> bar-pressure]? In this way, once memorized, all profiles would then have the same visual representation whether they originated from the touch screen or via a manual extraction. Thanks!

  • @LowsJuan

    The biggest con is the price. This is a top of the line machine, which puts it in a very different category and most viewers will not appreciate this review because this information was not provided. Even if I had this kind of money I am not sure that pressure profiling is worth the extra cost. But being the number one in the line up is probably why a lot of people will buy this machine because they equate cost with prestige and not really use this function. Of course, these are the perfect customers for super-automatics which are even more expensive than this so I might be wrong.

    • @event4216
      @event4216 6 лет назад

      I think this isn't exactly designed for home use, even if some will keep it on a counter to make two drinks a day. And for business price isn't an issue as long as particular business isn't faulty.

    • @abhishekray3313
      @abhishekray3313 5 лет назад +2

      I see it as a machine that has all the features of a Strada EP 1 group ($11,500) (except the Rocket has no auto blackflush function--who cares?) for half the price. For a machine with an equivalent feature set, this is the most affordable option.
      Whether you need this feature set is another question entirely.

  • @BobStCyr

    ECM, profitec and lilet offer profiling machines -flow control - without the programming - so repeatably is down to the barista at about half the price of the R9. Are those machines capable of producing as good a shot as the R9 (assuming the barista skills are up to it)? Also if someone is new to pressure profiling - how the heck do you decide on what profile to set up? It all seems so random. but there must be something behind it.

    Using a pressure profiling machine like this with a dark roast is like using a race car to go grocery shopping. For these roasts any decent dual boiler machines will produce basically the same results. With light roasts, however, pressure profiling (or utilizing certain lever machines) is almost a necessity to get excellent results!

    • @animus128

    I love the express by I also would like machine that also make black coffee for my morning commute. I don’t have time to make espresso in the morning. Any suggestions on what I should buy? Combo machine would be great. Thanks in advance!

    • @event4216
      @event4216 6 лет назад

      Espresso preparation doesn't take longer time than other brews, I mean you don't have to babysit machine while it's warming up. For busy morning there's no better shortcut than decent take-away on your way, if you have such option. Yet another machine would mean less space in kitchen and more time spent cleaning it.
