  • Some big changes coming to Downtown Denver, and they involve the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Elitch Gardens, and our very wealthy sports team owners in Stan Kroenke and Rob Walton. These interconnected pieces have effects that go far beyond Colorado's sports teams-they'll change how people live in and experience the LoDo neighborhood in Denver, Colorado.
Two projects in the works called The River Mile and The Sports Mile have the potential to change the layout and feel of Downtown Denver forever in a big way, creating new walkable neighborhoods and entertainment districts filled with new things to do in Denver. These developments would change the whole experience of going to a game at Ball Arena or Mile High Stadium, and the success of these projects could ultimately determine if the Denver Broncos will stay in Denver or move to Aurora.
If you're thinking of moving to Denver, this is Downtown Denver guide covers one of the biggest things to pay attention to when it comes to what it will be like to live in Downtown Denver for the foreseeable future:

More parks and greenspace would be great in that area, but please keep the Broncos stadium in the city.

There will be parking maximums. Car travel in high density cities and large sports venues is not sustainable. America needs to learn this.

Its been a while since I lived there but if still available there used to be a huge chunk of land off of 70 near the shops at stapleton on the north side of the frwy. That would be a great place for Elitches. I still remember the old days when it was up on 38th tucked in a neighborhood.

It’s so sad. I lived there in the 90s when downtown was beautiful, safe, vibrant, new stores, renovations in all those brick and stone old stores that closed and they put in new stores, restaurants, condos on 16th St. It was so pretty at Christmas. I lived in Aurora, but spent lots of time downtown, riding the trolley, going to Rockies games. But, now is has become just another big city.

I had heard that the site of the soon-to-close Pepsi Bottling plant on 38th and Brighton could be the site of a new MLS stadium once Pepsi bottling moves out to Aurora.
I’d personally really love to see this. It would really solidify that part of Rino as a true destination. I jUt don’t love the idea of clustering every sports venue in the same area. Give sports fans different areas to experience.

Reminds me of the same evolution that produced the Union Station light/heavy rail, bus, shuttle interface. The key is transportation over the next 20 to 40 year period (we are what we built years back.) The 2023 transportation map of Denver was conceived in the early 1990s. Similarly, the world of 2023 will reflect the execution of current hypothesis. Think 2043 and preserve right of way.

@@WN_Byers I agree, particularly AS the Union Station Complex was planned on EMPLY LAND. My point here was that we are stuck TODAY with decisions made in the 80s and 90s. Likewise, any infrastructure we plan now will be what we live with down the line.

    • @davechung

I don't think moving a giant stadium into downtown is a good idea. The RTD could never handle the influx of people. The traffic would just get worse and parking costs would skyrocket. But hey some rich asshole gets to make more money!

    • @gregsnider2023
      @gregsnider2023 Год назад +2

If the Broncos want a new stadium, they can pay for it themselves. The taxpayers don't need to be saddled with another endless tax.

Highway between Empower and everything else down there is going to be a mess. They’d need to build a massive bridge over 25.
I would personally love to see them move the Broncos to Aurora. Aurora is very up and coming, but is very boring right now. There is nothing to do there, and the Broncos being over there would drastically change that area.

    • @davechung

Both great points! If they went big, the Broncos could literally create a whole area of Aurora that would have so much potential for this side of town.

I think we all can agree that the only option is to knock down those unusable eyesores. It’s our responsibility as the city to take money from the dirty poors and give it to out of town money-monopolizers. These profiteers don’t have the ability to make ALL the money and it’s time that changed. Anyone who isn’t rich enough to fit in can move to Greeley.
