I took my driving test in Pompey on this day. Never got out of 2nd gear, no turn in the road nor emergency stop because the roads were rammed! I passed, which could explain things over subsequent years! 😂😂😂
I was working as a young property surveyor in Portsmouth at the time. I saw Hermes and Invincible leave, on a day when the world would never have been able to fully appreciate the emotions - fear and pride in equal measure, with this being matched by joy and pride when each ship returned. I don’t think people fully appreciate the boost that these events had for the British after years of being told that we were ‘in decline’. Shame that so many good and brave British and Argentine servicemen had to die for the vanity of a decrepit junta.

Greetings from Canada. I was 13 years old when Argentina invaded the Falklands.. I remember thinking "What? They did WHAT??? Oh, no, the British will not stand for that."
