- It's been a while since I touched Hyper Street Fighter 2 and I want you guys to experience this journey with me! I think this Street Fighter has one of the cheapest and most broken AIs out there so you know I gotta play the arcade version!

One of those games where half the time when you press a button you aren't actually controlling your own character but pressing a button for the enemy to counter your move.
FACTS
So true. Especially in mk2
Abolish button reading CPU’s
Is hyper sfii the one included on Xbox anniversary edition along with 3rd strike ?
@@mikeandroid3512 Yes
By reverse engineering the code and slowing down to frame by frame, it's been established the computer cheats in those old games like SF2. You can find videos about it.
It's not just input reading : extra invincibility frames, extra range, moves altered... there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes. So if it feels like unfair BS, it's because it actually IS.
One of the reasons I'm glad Midway is no longer around... because their fighting games were complete BS
So true , for example, cpu blanka's crouching fierce has priority over everything is just bs
No charge specials
@@fredcasdensworld All fg companies did the same in the 90s by SF2 influence. MK, all SNK fgs, etc.
It was made to eat your quarters/¥100 coins, not to be fair. Word of mouth travelled fast from friend to friend and arcade to arcade about tactics and exploits, so many companies used these tricks to guarantee the average play time per ¥100 would stay short enough.
Omg this brings back such painful memories of playing 90s SF as a kid lol. Zangrief's command grab teleports you into his arms. It's the reason why I hate any game whose enemies have command grabs. The CPU in games of this era was something else. Rage for days.
It angered me how you can't break out the command grab too. I notice how the CPU can immediately grab you after you do a light/medium kick or punch
@@phil4863 Yep it's so obnoxious. I was just playing Hyper yesterday and this exact thing happened to me.
i was more annoyed by fireball wars
and then having akuma become controllable
And on other hand, if you know the pattern to easily beat the CPU, you will also rage for playing a boring game. So the best way to play fighting games is against human players.
This actually made me have a phobia close fighting grappler characters. Thanks Zangief for teaching me to zone out grapplers and stay cautious about getting close.
I played Hyper on PS2 and I thought I was bad cos the CPU was nuts but if J. Wong himself struggled, then that makes me feel way better. 😭
There's a glitch in the USA version even on easy it's actually playing on hard
Saaaamee!!
Thank you!
I just wanted to write that.
@@PhillyTJ I thought it was intentionally hard, not a glitch. The more you know...
@@tomio9 nah glitch so level 1 is same as level 8. Only difference is on level 1 u can take more hits...on level 8 ur dead after 5 hits. But CPU fighting intensity is same and it will fuck u up 😂😂😂
@@PhillyTJ Bro I thought I was a noob cos I got my ass kicked on easy.
On the SNES version if you got beat by the CPU and then plugged in a second controller and chose that CPU character that beat you, you could win with player one and advance. I did this and advanced all the way to Bison where I would just get destroyed since the exploit didn't work on the final character. So much rage.
Bison is a pain in the ass!
That's what u get for taking shortcuts says Bruce Lee
I did that too!!!! It didn't load Bison's stage, and played on DJ's level.
Haha. Same. I'd have my brother come into my room and beat Bison so I could see all the endings.
They should literally make this CPU an entrant at EVO and see how it does.
It will win the championship 🥇
And guys FYI, about picking original 2x/turbo chars on HSF2, you could hold Start button when the cursor is on SuperX/SuperT then choose this mode. You will hear a different jingle. And for old chars in 2x/2t, you just need to hold start when cursor is on Super and choose this mode. The special jingle will be heard too.
And more, the special 2x mode contains the mechanic or glitches we all love, like ORyu 50%50 tatsu( sorry if I’m wrong) the walking super for Honda and chun, and charged orochis.
Let me tell ya ONE thing... the AI on Hyper Street Fighter 2 IS the SAME as Super Turbo, which means that if you play the non-JPN version, you have the Super Turbo AI syndrome on ANY difficulty, while the JPN is a little bit harder overall, but still not as hard as international Super Turbo/Hyper.
Edit: ONE big change to Super Turbo (aside of being able to use older versions than Super Turbo Special mode) is the fact that the Akuma conditions got modified, both for good and bad (like anything related to Super Combos ONLY plays in factor with Super Turbo versions of characters aside of Akuma himself and unlike Super Turbo, you cannot lose rounds at all AND also if you fail the match and decide to retry... you're out of luck on that run, you MUST restart as Dictator will fight you like normal)... with that said. I REALLY WANT Justin to try again, reach AND defeat Akuma, as it's already hard enough to achieve no rounds lost when you reach Dictator... also, if you want to pick a Super Turbo Old (Special mode) version of a character, pick the normal Super option while holding the Start button.
Yeah there are only two good things about Hyper as a 1P game. Firstly, it's the only way to play US/World Super Turbo A.I. without Turbo speed (you can select Normal speed from the test switch, whereas in ST it only allows Free Select down to Turbo 1 at the lowest) and secondly, it gets rid of the stupid default Akuma last boss. Which basically *is* default. If you only play to 1CC a game like myself then EVERYBODY gets to Akuma. In Hyper, Bison is the proper last boss - as he should be - unless you do something out of the ordinary. Much better.
@@cardsharpHS Well, the ONLY thing you need to do in a 1CC run to avoid fighting Akuma is to lose at least a single round at any time on Sagat or any of the opponents prior to him, in Super Turbo you had to make sure to fail other conditions along with losing at least 1 round (as completing 2 conditions aside of the no rounds lost still trigger Akuma)
Seeing Justin do anti CPU cheese tactics brings me so much joy!
3 hit combos chunking 80% health in one go, gotta love this BS ass AI. It's so ridiculously broken. Anytime I play it again I get insanely frustrated and my girl hears me screaming obscenities at the TV.
5:21 “I did this as a kid and thought I was the best player in the world”. Many people don’t grow out of that mentality and play like complete trash, only choose S tier characters, still lose yet somehow keep thinking they’re good.
I tested this and used Boxer...first match against Zangief
stood still, spammed HP and managed to win
I was like "ok, this game is just SF2 as i played it on Saturn"
Then the second match my ass was handed...and again, and again, and again. Now i can see the game is just diabolically hard
Man, CPU Deejay was giving it to Justin
That Zangief matchup is like Hi Score Girl😂
AHHAHAHA
"Mad damage" is the physical equivalent of "emotional damage".
Accurate
🤣🤣 Goes from the broken original Guile to the Championship Edition of Bison! Hilarious video! Absolutely loved it!
Cammy input reading your moves and counter with Hooligan Combination was so sick!!
1:15 - Dee Jay's jump over your hadoken, definitely an input reader!
Every iteration of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo AI I played is cheesematic. Every time I put a quarter in that machine, I knew I wasn't making it past the first opponent. Thankfully the Street Fighter Alpha Series, especially 2 and 3, calmed down a bit.
There's a SSF2T machine at the Barcade in my town and the farthest I've ever gotten on one credit is up to Sagat. Someday I'm gonna beat it!
@@krunkcleanup2949
Thats pretty good. It took me over 100 matches to beat super turbo on the 30th collection. Zangief was about 50 of them
It's just the best old school fighting game ever to me. I've been playing this since having a break from street fighter spam, I mean 5. It's the one stop SF II shop and if you can beat AKUMA in this...then mad respect.
I remember when I used to play this in the 90’s I could have beaten this game with one try, I attempt to play this the other day and couldn’t win a match lol, I really forgot how hard this game was
I 100% guarantee you could not finish the original American arcade on 1 quarter. The CPU is absolutely abhorrent, you're either remembering a different version or played another one.
I 100% guarantee you could not finish the original American arcade on 1 quarter. The CPU is absolutely abhorrent, you're either remembering a different version or played another one.
The game was so addictive that I’m sure most of us put many hours in and beat the game on 8 stars, these days most games have gone soft and don’t hold the same challenge. Also these games cheat a lot 😂
Same man. Been struggling with hyper in the new combo release. Has me rethinking life rn haha.
In the 90s it was the Japanese version you played right?
3:33
High Score Girl feels... man, I miss the anime
4:43 - Before Marth was grabbing ppl from Hammer Space. Clearly Zangief did it first.
So I check out the Japanese version of HSF2 and the goddamn CPU is way less cheap!
I play this one a lot today. It's a quarter killer...especially CPU Dee Jay and Gief.
Say what? It's just World/US ST A.I. Which is very hard yes, but there's nothing different about Hyper. That was the thing I was pissed about when it came out. It just plays exactly like ST in 1P mode. Instead of utilising varied A.I.s for each character variation. And using BGs from SFII's past - blue colored carpet for C.E./Turbo Dhalsim, sunset colored sky for WW Ryu stage etc would have been super sweet. A redone frontend with player select and vs screen wouldn't have gone amiss either. Unfortunately the game was made in Capcom's era of 'cobbling shit together'.
everything the CPU does in Super Turbo or Hyper SF2 is, to quote Justin, "mad damage".
Pretty much
If you ever get to fight Ryoko kano in the last levels from Fighters history dynamite she can grab you from miles away
best part is the score shows how many times jwong hits the continue button. LoLs
There was an American arcade release of Hyper. Not sure if they still have it, but Round 1 PHM did at one point.
I played one at quarter world in portland
Loved the vid! My top pick would be to see human vs human high-level competitive play with SF2 WW.
There are a lot of high level pvp world warior videos online.
@@SkeletorTclaws I'm loving the CHAQN2 channel, but those have no commentary
Like Mortal Kombat Street Fighter has combos that will destroy your opponents in a single chain of moves
Pretty much
1994, and 15 year old me was playing this at 7-11 when some kid a few years younger challenged me with Bison doing that bullsh!t cheap-ass flaming dive back and forth. He learned that day that Ryu can wake-up Shoryuken out of it. The look on his face was priceless…he couldn’t understand how he lost. 😂
Amazing content guys, nice edition too, love this channel.
@4:31 Mans was negative after landing Falling heavy jump kick 😂😂 He recovered b4 Ryu hit the ground! 😂 I cry-laughed for 20 minutes straight
Justin as Zangief tele-grabbed him: WHAT
me as Zangief tele-grabbed Justin: BRO WHAT
Seeing you play this and going to guile just reminded me of "Hi-Score Girl" LOL
9:23 This was a veteran move. By the CPU.
the reason was to take your money away
You just got to know the strategy for each character
I remember when we first time the someone beat all the characters and the bosses show up, there was like 6 or 7 kid everyone get his asskick by balrog LOL, nobody knew about the sweping
The AI in this game is such a Cheap, it really forces you to play Cheap all the way just to make it to Bison or Akuma.
I also didn't know how to pick old characters on this game until literally a decade after it came out, was so mad when I saw it was possble because I hated this version thinking it wasn't, or that Akuma wasn't selectable
We’re playing this right now in Pao Pao Caffe on the MVSX for GOTW and no one can get past the 2nd guy 🤣
0:06 damn that grab distance is insane ! I have just got the game for my Final Burn Alpha emulator again and damn I have never felt my 30 years of experience skills are totally useless against HSF2 CPU ! The CPU is so unpredictable! And so cheap it can grab you from mike away deal more damage than you do, their supers slightly fill faster , they have tones of advantages and react to every attack ! You feel like the damaged you dealt is just by coincidence! !!!
Good ol' SF2 input reader AI
Wow Justin I’ve been hitting MK1 so hard I had nightmares 😢ugh switching to Street Fighter King of Fighters more 2D anime fighters but I love your content man
man I really enjoy your videos , I have a dope time laughing at your struggles
One game I recall NOT cheating was Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior’s Dream. I could beat that game with Birdie, Adon, and Ken on practically ever arcade machine I played it on with no more than two dollars.
Alpha 2 & 3 are beatable like this too
lmao this happened to me when i got the anniversary edition on plus to try out, I was thinking I'm no pro but i can't be THAT bad not to be able to beat the first guy (also Deejay), I feel much better watching this now lol thanks!
We need AI like this back in newer fighting games
No wonder I was having a hard time playing this on Capcom Fighting Collection.
Would like it as it's own difficulty mode and achievement for completing it, though.
NOOOO GOD
NO GOD PLEASE NO
NO
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hell No! Hard pass on that!
@@ShaneDouglas713 huh why this type of AI actually takes skill to beat unlike now where you can simply do an auto combo and get a free win which is an absolute snooze fest
@@GamersUniteYT I get where coming from, but I don't want a AI that pulls cheap bullshit making the game almost unbeatable...
Alpha 3 on hardest can be pretty cheap
only certain characters tho
it's actually kind of incredible ai sometimes - they will suddenly do a cheap tactic you have never seen before, then repeat it several times
would love to know how it was tuned over time
Yeah. I remember going to Circus Circus and playing the original Mortal Kombat when it first came out, and the computer would do super quick jump kick anti-airs and I would be like damn, why can’t my jumps be that quick. It was like a turbo jump whenever the computer would anti-air. 🤬
This game is so broken. Crossing up can be hard to pull off when fighting online. What I really want is a release of Hyper SF Alpha which was hidden in the SF Alpha anthology on PS2
Yes!!!! I want to play Hyper SFA Too!!! 😃
As someone who's taking its first baby steps into SFII and unknowingly starting out with HyperSFII, hearing Jwong say even he finds the CPU is hard puts my mind at rest.
I played this game in the arcades. It took my quarters...
7:17 Muhammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki right there.
The piledriver just suck you in thin air that happens all the time for me
Zero 2 alpha arcade was hell too
You should play the fan made game of Ryu Vs Sagat. It's a flash game (I belive) but it's still playable.
I think it would be super fun to see your reaction in round 3
"if you guys want to see me struggle and get upset, like and subscribe"
soon we'll be having Jwong doing taxes
4:42 melee Marth moment
Wong: "He's definitely reading my inputs..."
Me: *Welcome To Hyper Street Fighter 2...* 🙃
Fact
The only things lacking in HYPER SFII:
• Capcom vs. SNK-style graphics and sprites. But players still have the option to switch to the old-school graphics look, just like in ULTRA SFII.
• "Normal", "Champ" and "Turbo" versions of Akuma, Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long and T. Hawk.
• A 6th mode called "Hyper" where everyone has Hyper Combo moves (Example: Ryu's Shin Shoryūken)
I remember beating this game using slow fireball dragon combo....... With Zangief just jump up and sweep into slow fireball.
Wong: "CPU Balrog is literally the dumbest character..."
Me: He's easy to anticipate and counter...
“See Mom!” I told you the computer is cheating!!! 😂😂😂 I remember as a kid screaming and yelling at the bowling alleys, at arcades, at Circus Circus, etc., and my Mom used to tell me there’s no way the computer could cheat. 🤣
Thank god I wasn’t the only one struggling with this. I can barely make it past one character in this game 😅
Same here
6:58 nice combo
You guys need to understand. At this point arcade owners were dropping Street Fighter games because people were too expert at these and they were losing money. They tried to make them as hard as possible with the given set of moves but people still beat it all the way. So in a desperate attempt to make it even harder they decided to cheat including input reading and quick charges especially with characters like Guile.
They went to a height of cheating with SF Alpha Akuma.
I remember this and super street fighter 2, The Computer will grab even on impossible situations . And Jumping against the computer is a death sentence.
I play this, it's so hard.. Input reading at highest level.. But advantage using sf2 world warrior or champion edition groove, no throw tech n higher damage, easy stun combo hit with projectile
Essentially the AI is programmed to read your input and always counter according to a script. The difficulty adjuster just affects how often it will fail at this.
This means at the highest difficulty nine times out of ten it doesn't matter what you do, the AI will walk through your attack and hit you because that's the only situation that can happen in the script.
@Justin Wong If it was me, I would have never picked Turbo Sagat, and that's because they nerfed his Tiger shots in there coming from CE, and more importantly the damage. I would recommend CE. Sagat because his Tiger shots are just as deadly as O. Sagats, however he does like nearly double the damage in certain aspects and he has access to CPS1 chains and CPS1 dizzies which makes him mad strong.
Imo, he's the best Sagat in the HSF2 Edition. Down below are the best versions for some of the characters imo (used to play this game on console like made back in the mid-2000s)...
Ryu - CE. Ryu, while HF. Ryu is amazing, CE. Ryu is everything HF. Ryu is, but he does twice the damage output (If HF. Ryu's damage output was equal to CE. Ryu, he'd be the #1 Ryu in the game), which puts him easily as the best Ryu in the game, and imo, one of the best characters in HSF2 period. CE. Ryu (along with HF. Ryu) have the best Hadouken in the game in terms of startup and recovery, excellent footsie games, CPS1 chains, and the inv. Hurricane kick. CE. Ryu is an absolute Boss in this game.
Ken - CE. Ken, and I don't think it's even close, again he's like HF. Ken but he dishes out twice the damage output which is insane, especially on his s.fpxxShoryuken does around half life or more I can't remember anymore, not to mention he's got the crazy hurricane glitch combos, along with the jumping fp which has a crazy hitbox on it.
Guile - CE. Guile, and some may argue WW. Guile, and I would like to say him too, however he has one crucial handicap that hurts him. He's got the slow WW speed, which really hurts him a lot, despite having the highest damage output of any Guile, and also having the best c.mk out of any of them as well. However, CE. Guile is practically all of that, while having the knee bazooka, along with no speed handicap as well as having the crazy CE damage.
Chun-Li - ST. Chun is still the best Chun, that super, her projectiles, her new combo setups, she's just too strong. Although I would like to say that HF. Chun is pretty darn good too.
Just a few, but the ones above are the best versions of their characters in this game in my opinion.
9:00 dad vs the son character portraits 🤣🤣🤣
Dude I played Hyper SF2 on the Xbox version for the first time when I was 13 years old and IT'S A PAIN!!! Now I got street fighter 30th anniversary for the Xbox One and I played Super SF2 Turbo. Still, IT'S A PAIN!!!
I played sf2 turbo once on street fighter 30th anniversary and I almost obliterated my fighstick, can’t imagine what this shit was like.
Great video. Glad to see im not the only one struggling with this game lol 😅
2:25 *I live a life of suffering...*
When Capcom couldn't sell DLC, they just sold cabinets with cheating CPUs.
Spamming Psycho Crusher VS Zangief, yeah I did that too...
Perfect input reading makes Cammy scary!!
7:36 that’s why I sub Justin 😂
Hyper Stf|| makes you feel like the wall comes quicker then the inputs of a special move.. like 3 jumps back I'm in the corner..
Try slow fireball. If he jumps, standing fierce his toes. Repeat.
YO! the Shokugeki no Soma wallpaper?!? 🙌🙌
the final version of sf4 has this too. give that a shot.
This is the only version i knew and played in South Africa😅never got passed Fei Long and was using Bison
Jw Ken - fire ball fire ball fire ball
Ryu- fire ball fire ball fire ball
Guile- sonic boom sonic boom sonic boom
Sagat- tiger tiger tiger tiger. Tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger tiger
This only an issue with the American ROM. The Japanese ROM is much more reasonable.
I feel relieved seeing this. If Justin is having troubles....then what can I expect for myself?
4:44 What the hey
Zangief has instant transmission
thats one of the most serious beatings i have seen a computer dish out
I tried the actual arcade version of this on the Capcom arcade museum collection thing on steam and holy fuck, I got absolutely smashed every round, I couldn't take one round off the first opponent I was that bad. Now watching Justin struggle playing the same shit makes me feel a lot better about it. The computer controlled characters are cheating bastards.
The editor had me dying with the whole I live a life that is suffering lol.
Bro still waiting on the Hyper SF Final Challenger’s on Switch. Always love your vids
The CPU reads the inputs, many times i got countered by some frame perfect TAS like attacks
Love the video dude keep it up
I' collect games and Ive tried Super Turbo not long ago from that Ps2 Capcom Collection and man, the 1st guy was already a nightmare. I felt ba bc I never had that kind of trouble playing the series.
3:37 Is this a High Score Girl reference?
That Bison shit didn't work against most Ken and Ryu fans as you'd eat a ton of shoryukens.. not only against the psycho crusher but the head stomp as well..
That instant transmission 0:03
