    Good on you Kevin! The new paint sets look very cool. I love trying new paints and have ended up with many different brands over the years - more paints than I will use in my lifetime. How lovely that you can paint miniatures for your daughter. I must admit I do enjoy painting the occasional fantasy miniature as a real change from historicals. All the best, John (down in Tasmania).

      You’re right it has been a little bit different and refreshing to not have to refer back to uniform books. I just paint and think about what looks good. But understanding uniforms, and clothing of periods has helped paint a lot of these figures. It’s just different and it’s fun. I wasn’t making a promotion for these new paints. It was just, sometimes it’s fun to make a video and talk to the people that are now connected with me. Especially to think my friends for the generosity. It also my daughter watches my RUclips and 30 years from now my grandkids will watch these videos. I’m sure. It’s like a livinggesture I suppose

I’m a bit shy, but I’ve enjoyed documenting some of my journey, I think I learned that from you people enjoy watching someone’s journey and not just the end product. It’s funny I get excited as a dog, when their master comes home after being gone, a couple of days, every time I see one of your new videos. The world stops, and I have to go sit down with a cup of tea and watch it. I’ve even known to cancel some of my business meetings to say I need 15 minute break here.😂😂😂🙏🙏🙏

    They look like fantastic paints and I'm really tempted to try some but I'm not sure I can accommodate yet another system. I've used Foundry triads for decades and also in the past few years have experimented with Warcolors from Cyprus of all places. They are on steroids as you get five shades for each colour, but within that each shade can be bought as transparent, translucent, semi-opaque and opaque - so a potential of twenty bottles per colour - it's mental. I like the idea of the stacks as well but have found that they don't suit my room as wherever I situate them they get direct sunlight on them for at least two hours a day in the summer and the paints soon harden. Great to hear that our wonderful hobby has gifted you with another enthusiasm.

      Hi Ralph, so nice to hear from you. Yes, it wasn’t supposed to be a promotional plug for this company but more over excited for me that I am finally moved into the realm of professional painting. I was just excited as I’ve never had a system a nice paints organized like that, but just a bottle here and a bottle there and they never seem to mix or match but nevertheless, they were useful to me. My video was more over just to rant and talk and share my enthusiasm. But if you have paints that you like, and foundry, naturally, is very good I would stay with those. I never heard of using watercolors for painting minis. Does that really work? That sounds exciting actually. They must be highly pigmented. Yes, my painting station does not receive any natural sunlight. It is the only room in the house that is totally dependent upon electrical light, I think this is better for painting as I can create the light that I need versus having it come in and punch me in the face. Living in Georgia in the United States son is 95% of what we have and it is hot. And brother when I say Hott I mean Hott.😵‍💫😵‍💫

I don’t do it too often and it’s not my stick trying to gain popularity, or some financial benefit of any kind. Two Thin Coats are really good paints and the triads are great. I was in on 1st the kickstarter. Like all brands some are better than others and I thought his metallics are just ok and was hoping for top of the line as they were designed from the ground up. Price is a little high as they also come in smaller (15ml) bottles which reduces the value vs something like Vallejo @ 17ml.
    You should try the Pro Acryl metallics. They are very nice. Their regular colors are too matte/flat for me.
    You did know that Wargames Foundry has been doing triads since about the late 1800's right? HaHa

      I know, right I really never thought about it or was exposed to it. I just mixed my own paints up to now, but when I start watching these RUclips tutorials on how you should be painting my paints were not adequate at all. Yes, they were a bit expensive, but it was a whole set. Did I mention a whole set altogether and I was just attracted by the shiny metallic thing swinging in the air. I haven’t tried the metallics yet to be honest, so thank you for mentioning that and I’m sure they’ll be fine for me. But we shall see thank you for writing. Nonetheless, I enjoy meeting people.

    The prices on those are quite a lot but if you get a lot of use out of them it isn't that bad. I use Vallejo and Reaper master paints and have for a number of years. I need to invest in getting more paints to be honest. I will do that when I get back to miniature painting if I ever do. Taken a long vacation as I figure out what I want from the hobby.

I watch movies while I paint, or listen to books or podcasts, and I just sit back and relax I don’t do it for anybody else, but just for me, and it’s really not that important to be honest. That you’re taking time thinking about things is nice. I take two months off January and February. Generally to give my brain a shut down my eyes arrest and keeps me from being obsessed. Period. I like to paint but I think I overdid it by painting my entire collection save a hundred or so 15mm miniatures through the pandemic. I think I majorly burned my self out. I was painting for the wrong reasons and painting in a scale (28mm) that I honestly don't like. I do like to paint but the biggest hurdle I have is I like a lot of historical periods that my mind can't focus on any particular ones. I enjoy looking at your armies on display. They're very nice and I am sure an inspiration to others. I've been soul searching and I found that as a traditional wargamer (hex and counter games) I get my gaming needs from those. I have been thinking long and hard and I keep coming back to the same conclusion. That is that I have a great interest in the age of musketry. I am thinking in the new year I finally ship off the stuff I have no use for and start fresh with the Napoleonic Wars. I have been thinking about the 1809 Danube campaign in particular using Volley and Bayonet. @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53

    • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53
      @thekrausecollection15mmmin53  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think that sounds like a great idea. I love the 1809 campaign, and you know I lived in that region for over seven years I walked almost every inch of the battlefield in Bavaria. I also travel to Vienna often at Wagram. that’s the height of the beautiful uniforms. I think painting Davos Corp would be phenomenal.
      I think you’re on a good path. But you do what you love to do. I think that a lot of people spent a lot of time during Covid painting and stuck inside the house and there might be a psychological link there of pain. I know that after Covid after being stuck in the house the last thing I wanted to do was get stuck in the house. But you know everything has its time and its reasons. But if you love the Napoleonic wars, then by all means do that. I had a love for Frederick, the great and painted up of course all of the seven year war armies.. I haven’t even put up by Napoleon on RUclips. That would be some task.

    • @nordicmaelstrom4714
      @nordicmaelstrom4714 7 месяцев назад

      That has to be inspiring to walk those battlefields and then paint miniatures of the troops that fought there. I feel it pays homage and honors their memory. I have been all over the Gettysburg battlefield in Union uniform and even did some AWI reenacting as a British light infantry soldier even taking part in a reenactment on the Monmouth Courthouse battlefield.
      I wound up painting around a thousand miniatures during the pandemic which is more than all the miniatures I have painted in the sixteen years of being in the hobby. I definitely feel it burned me out and made me hesitant to jump back into miniatures. I love the age of musketry for the uniforms and flags. I think what I should do is get a couple bags of miniatures and paint them and base them before deciding to buy more. I can't overload myself with miniatures like I have done in the past. That is not a good idea as I wind up getting bored or lose motivation.
      I would love to see more of your age of musketry armies! I did a P500 order of Banish All Their Fears from GMT games that covers the battles of Blenheim and a second battle whose name escapes me. Looking forward to getting that on the table to play. @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53

      I have walked the fields of Blenheim many times. Was even friends with the curator of the museum there. It did influence May for the wars of the Spanish succession. I was blessed by being able to see the battlefields and walk them as much as you can these days. When I start a project, I never buy more than three bags of figures. I mean, sometimes it might be more if they’re smaller bags, but like you, I want to be a person that finishes what one buys. I can visually get through three bags of figures before ordering some more. It keeps me motivated, and I really have no mountain of lead here or no mountain of plastic. I might have, some armies that I want to touch up but never new figures. There was a time when I took two years off from painting just because I had other things I wanted to do and it was of no interest to me. I would look at my shiny toy soldiers and say aren’t those nice but my brain and my body and my soul needed a break. And when that happens, you should listen. Like I said, I think in an earlier writing I take two months off January and February where I do no painting at all. And that’s during the winter months but here in Georgia it’s never really cold. My wife and I go to the beaches and we go where it’s sunny and hang out and I don’t paint during those times.
      I think you’ll be fine, and I wouldn’t worry about it too much at all. You sound like a very levelheaded wonderful person to me and you are always welcome in my home.

I like them a lot, but I still like my good old paints. I struggle a little bit with how much Paint to put in my dropper. Sometimes it’s easier just to shake that damn bottle and grab a little bit out of the cap. I have learned how to paint a bit better with the Triad. But in reality when you’re painting 15 and 10 mm how really good are you supposed to have or be

    • @nobody342
      @nobody342 2 месяца назад

      @@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 While I may only have ~1500 15mm miniatures painted ( almost all fantasy) I find that the Americana does quite well with 15mm. Once Ive started a army, it is not realistic to change brands as color matching becomes difficult once you start with one color. I find that there is quite a variety of colors that you can often do the equivalent of the color triads anyways with the Americana/Delta/FolkArt ( I like them in that order also). The last year or so, I have mostly been painting 28mm for 1e AD&D for my kids to play, and finally the small group I have in my small town. I have considered buying the new Army painters, but even if they are great, I dont think I have gained much, I have more than enough colors to do just about anything I want. Painting 28mm is different then 15mm. But both work quite well with basecoat and wash and/or highlight of a lighter color. In some ways, I actually like artist acrylic ( tubes) but its so much easier to just grab a color that will work then to have to mix your colors for everything every time and then remember how you did what later on, if I come back to that range. I keep some notes, but often not very good notes, and mixing colors makes it even more complicated. Im trying to 3d print and paint most of the "Useful" monsters in the 1e AD&D monster manual, in the encounter size groups they are listed in, for use in D&D. for some things like orc, where 30-300 are indicated, well maybe 30 is enough in 28mm as I can always jump down in scale to 15mm for any large battle approaching the large numbers. if need be, as I have all that in 15mm. Im guessing I have about 3-400 28mm miniatures painted now, with boxes of 3d printed monsters waiting for me to paint. I give everything a simple base, often either just brown or grey depending on whether it is likely to be encountered indoors or outdoors.

I love you saw the value in buying all these expensive parts. But I don’t know I think as I was painting Fantasy 28 from my daughter I got nervous and thought I needed some more.
