It's amazing how much control Steve has. Not going overboard in anything he uses for his music. They are all done just in the right perfection, the right balance. Also I've admired his guitar playing, especially his slide playing (which is tremendous, thank his teacher Les Paul). When talking about talking about classic rock, Steve has every right to be mentioned. Very noted for his innovation especially back then. Special effects that come out and new things, he masters them well.
It is so fantastic seeing all these people in the audience still kicking on this song. After so many years, it still rocks me of my socks. This band is unbelievable.
Steve Miller told the story of the song in a intervieuw with Mojo november 2012: I got this funny, lazy, sexy little tune, he recalled, but it didn't come together until a party in Novato, north of San Francisco. I sat on the hood of a car under the stars with an acoustic guitar making up lyrics and I'm a joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker came out. My chorus! the some people called me the space cowboy and the gangster of love referred to earlier songs of mine and so did Maurice and te pompatus of love. You don't have to use the words. It was just a goof.
Well, i am always fascinated by these "old" , well known Musicians who had their great Time in the Seventies and Eighties and now performing like being much Younger and sounding great👍 Another perfect Example for this Statement is, in my mind, Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac...
September 15, 1990 - The Steve Miller Band had a UK No.1 with “The Joker” 16 years after it's first release. The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1974. More than 16 years later, it reached No.1 in the UK Singles Chart after being used in "Great Deal", a Hugh Johnson-directed television advertisement for Levi's, thus holding the record for the longest gap between transatlantic chart-toppers.
Look at all the young people in the audience. They weren't even born when this song came out. But they seem to know the words and love the jam. Awsome.
Saw The Steve Miller Band last night in Vancouver, BC at the PNE. He's 72 years old now and you wouldn't have known it by his energy levels. Fantastic show! He's deservedly in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame - although he doesn't have much respect for it.
Yah, I was there too, with my sons. I was about 9 years old when I heard the Joker and it was great for all of us to hear it live from the man himself. Kids are so spoiled (but they did have a great time).
30 years ago I picked up my fist car, gun metal 2lt Capri. And as I drove it away this song came on the radio. Felt like the King of world! Think I might just have this played at my funeral
Sailor was the 1st LP of his that I bought after hearing Dear Mary played on a French radio station back in 1965/66 or so. I've been a fan ever since and now have the albums on CD as well.
I love the fact that when I look at that audience we have everything from old to young, from men to women. Seems like they really manage to appeal to all kinds of people.
Love Steve miller band lot´s of hot chillums is smoked to this wonderful music i have been a big fan since your first album THANX from Copenhagen Denmark !!!
I saw the great Steve Miller Band in 1982 at the Concord Pavillion in Northern California. It was such an incredible show. He is one of the greatest rock n rollers ever. This concert was from 2007. He is amazing. Try reacting to a Live Version of Jet Airliner
Man, this person is such a fine human being, he seems so nice, humble, down to earth and yet an big American music Icon, really cool ! I really 'dig him'
This song was playing when I was in JHS. A classmate always sang this song totally off pitch but we all loved it. It was "his" song. Sadly he was killed in a car accident that year but he lives in my fond memories when I hear this song. Thank you~
So friendly and so funky after all these years Steve. You are a credit to American music and I say this as an old Brit who has always admired you and your band since the 1970s when I was a kid.
Steve Miller ROCKS!!! This may sound strange but I LOVE it that he does not have a crazy light show. I have light sensitive epilepsy and I prefer to see a show like this where I don’t have to cover my eyes while I’m there. And, I LOVE many of his great songs. I’ve been a fan since I can remember. I also love his message, “Peace, love and happiness. Take care of each other.” The same as Ringo Starr. I love him, too. ✌❤🙂
This is and several other Steve Miller Band tunes are in rotation with my rap and and R&B running music. LOVE the Steve Miller Band. Keep on a rockin' .... rockin' me baby :-D
Hmmm four idiots missed the LIKE button! This is a fantastic concert! Wish I was there! Perhaps he'll come to NJ/NY area soon! Remember when he first recorded this! From the original "Joker"
How GREAT was America back in the days this was released? You hear it in the groove and feel. This song along with many others from that time were a celebration of how AMAZING our way of life was. Trump 2024 folks, we better fight for this thing or our kids will never feel the way we did back in these days.....
I LOVE THAT CROWD!! Man, here in Europe is a whole different thing to be to a concert. In the US you can see people havin a good time, singin and dancin together, in Europe you see people doin pogo on a John Lee Hooker song. I WANNA BE AMERICAN! *.*
• THE STEVE MILLER BAND scored the first of three number-one hits with "THE JOKER." Demonstrating that not everyone understands a joke at the same time, the song peaked at number one in the UK 16 years later after it was used in a commercial for Levi’s jeans. • The bassline from "The Joker" was borrowed/sampled by SHAGGY in his 2001 song "ANGEL."
I always catch him when he plays my city. He is such a cutie and we all have a great time at his concerts! They are awful for not inducting him into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame!
I remember sitting by a little AM radio with a little reel to reel tape recorder ( that's all we had) waiting for The Joker. You had to be almost clairvoyant to get the very beginning.
I've seen Steve in concert a number of times.. anybody rember when he opened for the Dead? I moved to where I am a few years ago... just my luck cus Chicago area is my home town... I woulda totally been at this show. Sounds and looks like I missed out...
Great to see that Rock n Roll is being passed on to another generation of young people, its the way it was meant to be
Love Steve Miller Band...so Bluesy & cool...Fun songs to do in cover band or at Karaoke..!!
40 years later this song is still cool.
It's got the groove, the message and the attitude.
It'll be cool in 140 years too
Still cool in 100000
In 392,000,000 !
5 yeas later
I am 73 and this is a Classic of my time!!
Steve is in his 70s, and the youngest members in the audience are singing along and know all the lyrics...
Probably kids of his bandmates or even grand children...Who the hell listens to Steve Miller Band today in his 20s.

Youre so Wright! I am with youre meaning
Yep. He learned from the pioneers and I'm sure he has inspired countless others along the way.
It is so fantastic seeing all these people in the audience still kicking on this song. After so many years, it still rocks me of my socks. This band is unbelievable.

It's a masterpiece of a beautiful party tune for sure!
It's a favourite of mine since it came out in 1973 :-)
I've heard or read that it was written on the hood of a car at a cottage party, or something like that, in five or ten minutes!
Steve Miller told the story of the song in a intervieuw with Mojo november 2012: I got this funny, lazy, sexy little tune, he recalled, but it didn't come together until a party in Novato, north of San Francisco. That is a nice story to go with a great song, thanks for sharing Jos.

I've always loved these guys, and still do.
It's actually awesome to see a younger crowd there too! Timeless music, Rock and Roll!

Such an epic bass groove, yet everything sound better about this band live
This song is an Antidepresive therapy :)
These are some seasoned musicians. In the very best way. They’re TIGHT and they all rock HARD.

I think he took the line from an old blues song ,I read that somewhere back in the seventies when the song came out .
Magical ~ love to listen to your harmony, never gets old.
I'm 24 years old now, and between all the crappy music out there, this band got something special. I wish I was born on the 60's/70's
Man, I have great memories of these dudes back in my hs days in S Texas. Their 8 track was it. ha ha

I do not believe political stances have anything to do with the Steve Miller band’s genre of music. Stop making everything political 💋
Classic good mood song :) Love it :)
