So happy to find you. I'm a guitarist that grew tired of the simplistic western music. Rock, blues, metal, country... And with the electronic music it all got even worse. I'm Latin and I do like a lot of that Arabic & Gypsy classic sound on a guitar. There's something mystical, sexy and hypnotic in them. Even though I live close to those countries I feel like there's not enough of it around (if any!). Everyone just goes for that boring monotonous bass and beat music. The real geniuses are in Arabic and Latin music for sure. Not in these "push a button" and "copy-paste encyclopedia computer sounds" guys. Anyway, thank you very much for the tips! I wish there would be more in depth lessons because I think you probably scratched the surface. This stuff can be for very advanced guitar players

I like your video but there is something i have to explain. What you explained being the Arabic scale (phrygian dominant) is actually played without the quarter notes, so it is playable on a guitar. This is also the case for the following ethinc Arabic scales (maqams): -hijaz (phrygian dominant) -kurd (phrygian) -nahawand (minor) -ajam (major) The following ethnic scales are not playable on a guitar as they contain quarter notes: -saba -bayat -rast I hope this is useful for you (:
LBM- THank you so much there are not many people who have the consideration to type in the tuning especially when it comes to Exotic Arabic Egyptian and Spaniard because they are distinct tunings that are played for a distinct purpose, 🤘👀🤘
He is trying to keep it simple and easy .Westerners get lost as Spanish music is similar and everything depends on c scale or rock and roll and most people improvise by ear or on modest u tube lessons that are okay but not perfect for all. It's all good

Thank you for the helpful video. Arab music has a lot of scales (maqam), some are without quarter-tones such as the major, minor, harmonic minor, phrygian, phrygian dominant, locrian, and more. Some scales are in quarter-tones such as Rast and Saba, sometimes they would intentionally play a regular scale but flatten or sharpen a note by a quarter-tone or by an eighth-tone.
'Indian tonality is crazy, so let's not get into that.' XD If anyone wants that specific scale btw in C# it goes c# e g a c# But you can play around with the the C and D notes too.
man I'm Portuguese so it wasn't confuse or hard at all to understand and I could easily play all those scales and I actually came here because our national music the Fado is actually filled with these Arabic scales
I’ve been playing a year and a half and learnt from youtube videos and i don’t know much or basically anything about scales and I just wanted to learn some new stuff and wow this video was so great. Thank you! You made it very simple and fun to learn!
i love the 0-1-4-5-7-8-11-12 scale. i also like 0-2-3-(5)-6-8-11-12 and the whole note scale a damn lot thinking in a scale i find them easier to apply than for instance jazz chord theory, i guess i used to undervalue short chromatic intervals before, i have a very western ear, one could say classical even with very clean non-dissonant resolving chords (except for the odd diminished chord) but slowly but surely i developed a bit of a gypsy style to my playing, i also can do a decent blues solo, so my experience with microtonal stuff does help with conveying it. you're an incredible teacher!
For anyone interested in non western music check out. Flamenco (spanish classical) and Gypsy Jazz. I'm a huge fan of Jazz and classical of all variations but those 2 mentioned above are among my favorites

Maqam is 8 notes, there is something called "jins" which is 4 notes. The one you play at the beginning (interval 1/2 - 1 1/2-1/2) is jins hejaz in Arabic music theory. An actual mode without a quarter tone, no approximation necessary :)

Balkanic means Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey etc. Baltic means Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.. That can be corrected at least in the description, as a whole region's musical herirage being ascribed to a whole other hugely different region ruffles feathers.

This scale is an Arabic Mqam it is composed from 2 Hijaz mode Its name is Athar Kurd آثر كرد Orgenaly it played from D like that D E flat F sharp Then G A flat B C D

I just listened to a bunch of Baltic folk music trying to find chromatic, phrygian mode or microtones -- couldn't find much (mostly minor keys in Baltic from what I can tell). Balkan music has a lot of it. Baltic is Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. Balkans is Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia & others
Learn Phrygian Dominant mode/scale. Harmonic minor scale works with it if you know that scale. For instance E phyrigian dominant and A harminic minor are in the same key. There's alot more to it but you can get the idea
Those quarter notes are known also as micro tones. Check out microtonal guitars or fretless. I play the double bass and guitar. so I can get those microtones on the upright. It's very fascinating stuff though. Great job at making it simple for those who don't know or understand theory. Once I learned more advanced theory the doors just opened up to new heights for writing music and playing with people.

That Arabic scale exist in Arabic musical academia. It's called the Hijaz Scale or Maqam Hijaz.
