I was skeptical of mushroom grow bags, until recently. I recently wsitched to a 2x4 tent for flowering. Added 2 bags on one side of my tent and noticed my plant were taller under 2 bags. I would rotate the plant and that side would grow taller. I have now placed a bag on each end of my tent. I do have a CO2 meter in the tent. With the bags I consistently have over 10% more CO2 with the bags. Normally 450 PPM with a 6" inline fan.. I have used yeast and sugar in the past but way more of a hassle than bags.

You need to know about alcoholic fermentation to make it work properly, have you checked the pH of the solution? Have you added fertilizers for the yeast? What amount of sugar/yeast did you use?
The only artisanal way that really works is alcoholic fermentation, but to maintain adequate levels of co2 for the plants you need to use 25-liter plastic drums with 10 liters of water, 5kg of sugar and 100 grams of brewer's yeast, this will produce co2 for about a week, the first 3 days in a very consistent way, then gradually weakening, to maintain the co2 at 800ppm in a 2mx2mx2m room without AC and therefore with the ventilation slightly open and not completely sealed, (air duct of 125mm opened at 5% max) you need 2 of these drums a week, therefore 10kg of sugar a week.
I have personally tested all the methods on the market, including bags, they only work with sealed rooms, otherwise they are literally money wasted, while with large drums and 5kg of sugar you produce an extremely high quantity of co2, so much so that you can maintain even 1200ppm in a 2x2x2m room without using pressurized cylinders.
The issue is always the cost, to produce enough co2 to maintain the co2 above 800ppm in a room of that size with a slight air recirculation has a cost between sugar and yeast of about 40-50 euros per month.
Paradoxically, the price of CO2 is always the same: if you buy it pressurized, 20kg of CO2 costs around 50 euros; to produce 20kg of CO2 with alcoholic fermentation, you need 40kg of sugar and around 3-400 grams of yeast, which have a commercial cost of around 50 euros...

To calibrate your co2 meter take it outside and then subtract 3% from 400 for every 1000ft of elevation increase. So at 5000’ your ambient co2 would be 15% less than sea level going from 400 down to 340ppm. There are so many co2 distribution systems so you will have to teach yourself on how to calibrate it. All co2 monitors I’ve used I just set the ppm level and the range it will drop before it turns back on.

    "Sealed room"
Please explain, no fresh air in?
No exhaust? Are you running co2, A/C and dehumidifier to control the environment?

    • @Memflix
      @Memflix 3 месяца назад

exactly, sealed rom means having an AC and a recirculating dehumidifier that keeps the temperature and humidity stable.
Living in places with a very cold climate you can manage to do without the AC, leaving the intake open only about 5% with an external temperature below 10 ° c and a HID lighting system inserted inside a cooltube with a dedicated ventilation system that excludes it from the growroom, you can manage to keep the internal temperature around 27 ° c maintaining 1000 ppm of co2 without wasting too much, in this way for a space of 2mx2mx2m a 20kg cylinder of co2 can last about 4 months, while in a complete sealed room 20kg are enough for the whole year.
20KG OF CO2 cost in my area about 50 euros.
The benefit that the plants get from it is not comparable to anything else, neither thousands of euros of lights, nor nutrients, nor type of culture, maintaining the CO2 even at just 800ppm you have an impressive root growth compared to a culture with ambient CO2

Air movement is important as only the air touching the leaf has the Co2 extracted by the plant. So you need to make sure the surface of the leaf is constantly having it's air replaced or it will be sitting in air, that has been depleted of the co2. So don't have you fan to high above the canopy and make sure it's tilted so it's moving the air below the tops as well.

Yes the Blue bag of Grow Dots is what you want to use with autos, use 10 grams per gallon or media when growing autos. you can direct sow into the Final pot or some start in a solo cup and transplant into final pot before the tap root hits the bottom of the cup.

@@ScottyReal420 Awesome, thanks for the reply. I got a bag of CocoLoco and the blue pack of growdots. But instead of 10g/gal I put the entire 75g in a 5 gallon pot. I don't transplant auto's, so after I soaked the seed until it sank I put it straight into 5gal. She's a Mephisto freebie, a Skywalker x Ripley's OG. completely useless, DIY methods for aquariums are totally useless for growrooms, the same goes for the various bags on the market, which only work with completely sealed rooms.
The only artisanal method that really works is alcoholic fermentation, but to maintain adequate levels of co2 for the plants you need to use 25-liter plastic drums with 10 liters of water, 5kg of sugar and 100 grams of brewer's yeast, this will produce co2 for about a week, the first 3 days in a very consistent way, then increasingly weakening, to maintain the co2 at 800ppm in a 2mx2mx2m room without AC and therefore with the ventilation slightly open and not completely sealed, you need 2 of these drums a week, therefore 10kg of sugar a week.
Paradoxically, the price of CO2 is always the same: if you buy it pressurized, 20kg of CO2 costs around 50 euros every recharge; to produce 20kg of CO2 with alcoholic fermentation, you need 40kg of sugar and around 3-400 grams of yeast, which have a commercial cost of around 50 euros...

The CO2 detector I our lower level is in the hallway near the furnace room and grow room. Does all this extra CO2 in your homes trip your CO2 detectors? CO2 poisoning is something that happens often in homes during the winter up where I live. I wouldn’t want to take any chances when it’s -20 and the house is all sealed up in the winter. That’s what creeps me out about the idea of CO2. Introducing something like that into the home.

Another nice option for small areas is an aquarium generator. They are a steel tank just like compressed gas and have the same electronic valves. You just fill them with baking soda, water, and citric acid every couple days all of which are dirt cheap and can be bought in bulk on Amazon. I can keep a 4x4 at between 1000 and 1200 ppm for about 3 days using a titan controls atlas 9 monitor/controller with fuzzy logic. It takes about 5 minutes to dump the tank give it a quick rinse and refill it to start the reaction again. No more trips to the hydro store every few days to exchange tanks or my neighbors wondering what the hell i use so much gas for. For about 60 bucks Amazon will deliver enough of the baking soda and citric acid to last a few months right to my door. Around my area that's the cost of about 3 compressed gas tank exchanges. No way I could get a couple months out of 3 tanks of compressed. The little generator saves time, work, and money while giving the same performance and increased safety and security.

What’s the point of CO2 if I’m already gifting more than enough excess flower to friends and relatives? I presume the idea of CO2 is to increase yield but my wife and I plus three cats breathing seems to be working.
I could see the benefit on a larger scale but gardening is a retirement hobby with benefits. Having to negotiate prices at the local welding supply and carry tanks in and out of the house doesn’t meet my criteria for a cool hobby.
I’m lazy by nature so I’m always give you the business if your tips mean more work and expense. I’m sure it is of value to very serious growers with strong backs and bigger budgets.

PS, there are dozens of "you have to do this" videos on a daily basis advocating things like CO2 with no "before and after" or description of how the end result is better. Like I mentioned, my setup grows good plants that do their job and give me excess that I give away. If by using CO2 and getting a bigger yield is the goal by using it I'd just be growing more free flower for someone else. I don't care for concentrates, anything that requires a MF'ing blow torch and makes me silently drool for four hours without uttering a word is a bridge too far. Does CO2 even make sense if we're satisfied where we're at?

chicken manure is quite variable in it's maturity. I think you are stressing the upper roots system of a plant doing this, and doing this to a small plant will stunt it with even mildly immature chicken manure. Build mature stuff into a compost tea solution is fairly safe, as the percentage in your tea mix is moderate, unless your tea is solely chicken manure.
