I’m in the same boat, I’ve been at a 1440 165hz screen for a while. I came from a 240hz 1080 Parnell and I miss the smoothness. One been eyeing down the aw2721d and the asus pg279qm and patiently waiting for a Black Friday sale lmao
If you got the space and budget I cannot express how smooth a Mitsubishi 2070sb and Sony G520 is. CRT is such a good tech just held back by space constraints. When I picked them up and drove them with a good Delock adapter it is INSANE how fast it is at just 90hz 1440P. Once you see it in real life, even the best LCD just seems like a downgrade. Too much tearing and smear/ghosting. A good CRT is almost a cheat, you just got to get back used to 4:3. I dont recommend the FW900 mainly for reliability, they have a lower KHz tube than either the 2070sb or G520. I am so ready to see OLED get better, this mis-advertised response time stuff is terrible when you are about to drop 600+ on a LCD. But not everyone can find or get lucky on a low hours high end CRT nowadays, so its a real double edged sword.

I've seen one in deep review of this monitor, but it was on Chinese (with Eng subtitles). Basically AW2723DF is downgraded AW2721D, and it also has PWM on low brightness.
Worth mentioning that as an IPS it’s good for productivity. I want a monitor to play cs go and do office work on. I think that is why the high price is less discouraging to buyers. Something the OLED world can’t offer yet because of burn in concerns with static elements.
It's pretty exciting to think what we might see in a few generations. With new frame generation tech and upscaling it's not out of the question to see 4K 360hz. On an OLED with proper HDR. That would be really nice.
Technically, 4K 360hz is already possible with older AAA games and even multiplayer games if you're using something like a 3090/4090. I think something which cannot be overlooked in these high refresh rate monitors is that increasing the LFC can be a life saver for single OD experiences. I imagine most people would find close to no issues running the pg27aqn with an LFC floor of around 140hz
I dont understand why this thing still costs over a 1000 Euros here in Europe, i dont want an OLED, i want IPS. QD OLED 360hz can be found under 1000 EUR now, and outpreforms it,doesnt make sense. If it was around 750/800 i would buy it, and be happy without issues that come with OLED.
If you're not good with noise, you should take MU's claim that the fan is basicly not audible with a grain of salt. I saw another review that said, if you have a quiet computer and sit in a quiet room, then the monitor fan would be easily heard. Thanks for the review btw!
If you're in a quiet room most things are audible... most people will be wearing a pair of headphones over their ears on top of that. Now if you could hear fan noise while wearing headphones in a quiet room that'd be a very major problem.
Tim, please use your unlimited power and convince some manufacturer to make a high refresh rate 1440p and 24/25" monitor. Cheers in advance 🍻 And if you can't be arsed then at least tell Philips to bring 24M1N5500Z to Europe.
I played on XL2546 since two years, I really love the DyAC+ and the huge brightness of this screen even with DyAc+ on. Yesterday I received my VG27AQN and played with it all the evening on Warzone 2 with arround 200 fps. It was crazy good BUT I think ULMB 2.0 make the screen not bright enough FOR ME. Today, I tried without ULMB 2.0 and my GOD with OD on normal AND HOW MY GOD IT S BEAUTIFUL AND BRIGHT !!!! Huge games with immersive sensations ! 1440 IPS is so beautiful !!! I did not realise any blur problems without ULMB 2.0 THIS SCREEN with top end PC is SOOO GOOOD, I AM GONNA PLAY WAY TOO MUCH AND LOSE MY JOB 🤣🤣🤣😘
3:12 I wish they included more DP and less HDMI. HDMI is not something that should ever be used for PC Monitors, so the display should just have one of them to support console / TV appliances, but not more than that
Hey Tim! Can you do a video about best monitors for different use cases? Like for example, I'm a programmer. What I want from my monitor is for high contrast, clear text, no light bleed to hurt my eyes from long time exposure, clear text, and as much vertical space as possible with at least 2 windows per monitor that are still usable.
Lack of strobing is a deal breaker for me. When ASUS was experimenting with ELMB-Sync on earlier models like the VG259QM I own, I was hoping by my next monitor they would have more or less perfected it, as tearing free strobing would be holy grail of monitor tech. If nothing else just good strobing by itself is a selling point. But it seems like ASUS gave up here instead.
I just saw they releasing a 540hz monitor phew oO and with ULMB on it, sadly it's 1080p and TN as we can expect, but this is looking good for the future we can hope 1440p with faster refresh rates aswell as 4k will get released
Its crazy how long the Omen x27 is on Market and still one of the Best Budget Choice till these days. Of course maybe bad RGB bla bla but it's a very fast WQHD Panel not bad from HP 💪
19:29 Consoles run at 120Hz. Also the panel has lossles compression so may go faster thn 144Hz over HDMI 2.0. Display port 1.4 can only handle 240Hz at 1440p, however compression brings it up to 360Hz.
My friend got one of these and he cant get the 360hz to work on it. He has the correct cable and a 4090 but whenever he changes to 360hz his pc restarts the 360hz doesnt stick. Highest rate that works is 280hz.
19:29 Have heard that the compression on this monitor, Display Stream Compression, will run HDMI 2.0 at 240Hz. For reference, display port 1.4 maxes out at 1440p at 240Hz, but Display Stream Compression takes it up to 360Hz. Display Stream Compression - is lossless, so not image degredation.
Whoa waited for this one, thanks! This one is important, could have been uploaded to main channel maybe or will all monitor reviews be here from now on?
It was hard to decide between the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP 540hz TN with 1080p and ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN 360hz IPS with 1440p...but hopefully I made the right decision going with the PG27AQN, any thoughts on that? Great review, thank you.
Everytime I see monitors reviews here, it just reminds me that HP Omen X 27 is STILL the best monitor that exists, and I wish it was possible to purchase it somewhere :(
Kinda wild how good hp is at times. I haven't tried the x 27 so I'll take your word for good it is. What I can attest to is good the omen 27u is. Haven't seen a better 4k display than that, and I've tried two different lg27gp950s, which Tim recommends
Would have been nice to see a comparison to the PG259QN. 24" is arguably better for competitive gaming than 27" and 1080p pixel density is perfectly adequate at the smaller screen size. It's also a lot cheaper, and not many rigs can hope to achieve anywhere near 360 fps at 1440p anyway where it might actually be achievable at 1080p
I agree with you. But the tempting thing about this monitor is the 25 inch mode that allows you play at 1332 which gives the monitor 108 ppi. Compare that to 89 on a 24.5 1080p monitor
@@nightstorm10 yes it is. Optimum tech and another video confirmed it. That feature alone makes it worth it. I’ve been wanting a higher ppi on a 24-25” monitor since I got into pc gaming

What? A thousand dollar monitor is calibrated out of the box!? And wide gamuttoggle independent of other settings!? WHAAAAT? I didn't know this was possible!
Going much over 144hz is a huge diminishing return, and likely a placebo effect for most people, there are more beneficial things to spend your PC budget on.
What would be very interesting is: this monitor vs. Predator XB3 XB273UKF with backlight strobing. I have the Acer and I think it uses the same panel, but with 300Hz instead of 360Hz. Unfortunately, Nvidia is still using an old G-Sync Panel without the possibility of running 360Hz ULMB and "old ports"....The Acer has 2x HDMI2.1 and one USB-C port

Who looks at the rear of the monitor to be outdated? Really, how is it outdated if the internal and the technology is most current. One thing I will not see in the future small monitor size. 4K 27" will fade out. 32" and higher will be the standard. Thank you for your review. It helps. 😀
Though question, because results will vary, even between the exact same models. It's related to higher frames more than load alone; as it might be apparent at 1080p but gone at 4k (because of the lower fps).

How about a normal 1440p or 4k QD OLED with HDR and at least 160 Hz refresh rate, also 27" - 32". I still don't understand why they start this new cool technology - QD OLED - with such monitors.
If it was around 750/800 i would buy it, and be happy without issues that come with OLED.
definitely appreciate mentioning the fan loudness, most reviewers completely ignore them
fan isn't loud at all lol
If you're not good with noise, you should take MU's claim that the fan is basicly not audible with a grain of salt. I saw another review that said, if you have a quiet computer and sit in a quiet room, then the monitor fan would be easily heard.
Thanks for the review btw!
If you're in a quiet room most things are audible... most people will be wearing a pair of headphones over their ears on top of that.
Now if you could hear fan noise while wearing headphones in a quiet room that'd be a very major problem.
Now thats a configuration that ive been waiting for.
Sold out everywhere just ridiculous that we can’t buy this. When is the shortage going to be over make these things available please
Tim, please use your unlimited power and convince some manufacturer to make a high refresh rate 1440p and 24/25" monitor. Cheers in advance 🍻
And if you can't be arsed then at least tell Philips to bring
24M1N5500Z to Europe.
Great review as usual.
Any plans on reviewing the aw2723df?
There is a Chinese review on RUclips with English subtitles, but definitely curious for a Hardware unboxed review on this one
Excellent review! I have the 240 hertz variant of this asus monitor. Very very good for fps games!
3:12 I wish they included more DP and less HDMI.
HDMI is not something that should ever be used for PC Monitors, so the display should just have one of them to support console / TV appliances, but not more than that
Great video as always
Well, that's a channel I didn't know or expect would exist
That price tag when there's a 240hz OLED 1440p monitor coming in dec for $999. oof.
Can’t sleep, perfect timing.
No HDMI 2.1 is unforgivable in a monitor at this price point.
DisplayPort. Is. Better.
@@toasty00000 r.i.p for console thats why hdmi 2.1 is important for them.
@@chopper_oni3128 you don’t need 2.1 to run 1440p at 120hz on console. Only 4k 120.
@@chopper_oni3128 console doesnt need 2.1 for 1440 120hz, only 4k 120hz
Me who plays wow, factorio and City builders: I desperately need that
Hey Tim, will you be reviewing the new Alienware monitors 2723dw, and 2523hf and such?
Its crazy how long the Omen x27 is on Market and still one of the Best Budget Choice till these days.
Of course maybe bad RGB bla bla but it's a very fast WQHD Panel not bad from HP 💪
19:29 Consoles run at 120Hz. Also the panel has lossles compression so may go faster thn 144Hz over HDMI 2.0.
Display port 1.4 can only handle 240Hz at 1440p, however compression brings it up to 360Hz.
thanks! now i can try to secure one without worries!
I unironically am considering changing from my XG27UQ to this!
Finaly you put my Omen x27 back in. TN rules!
i bought a month ago the Asus PG279QM 240hz 1440p.
Should i go ahead and return it for this model? Is it truly worth it?
My friend got one of these and he cant get the 360hz to work on it.
He has the correct cable and a 4090 but whenever he changes to 360hz his pc restarts the 360hz doesnt stick.
Highest rate that works is 280hz.
19:29 Have heard that the compression on this monitor, Display Stream Compression, will run HDMI 2.0 at 240Hz.
For reference, display port 1.4 maxes out at 1440p at 240Hz, but Display Stream Compression takes it up to 360Hz.
Display Stream Compression - is lossless, so not image degredation.
Great review, but would've appreciated 1332p testing.
Whoa waited for this one, thanks!
This one is important, could have been uploaded to main channel maybe or will all monitor reviews be here from now on?
I think everything stays here, and I hope it does. If all the biggest reviews goes to the other channel, this won't grow as it should.
Can you do a comparison to the AW3423DWF and the original, I trust your opinion and am choosing a monitor for the coming black friday
I wish I could afford this monitor. It looks beautiful.
Built for performance is the best type of product
Is the HDMI 2.0 limited by the g sync module? I know that nVidia had to update it to support HDMI 2.1, but I'm not sure if they have done it
It was hard to decide between the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP 540hz TN with 1080p and ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN 360hz IPS with 1440p...but hopefully I made the right decision going with the PG27AQN, any thoughts on that? Great review, thank you.
did the same 😊 with a 4090 rtx strix so happy with it I'm 6 months in
Is this the successor to the PG279QM? Is the factory color calibration as good as on the PG279QM?
Everytime I see monitors reviews here, it just reminds me that HP Omen X 27 is STILL the best monitor that exists, and I wish it was possible to purchase it somewhere :(
Kinda wild how good hp is at times. I haven't tried the x 27 so I'll take your word for good it is. What I can attest to is good the omen 27u is. Haven't seen a better 4k display than that, and I've tried two different lg27gp950s, which Tim recommends
From where are u ?
We in Germany have some Stors that sell the x27 circa. 420 - 470 €
So will we get 240Hz 4k OLEDs this coming year?
Would have been nice to see a comparison to the PG259QN. 24" is arguably better for competitive gaming than 27" and 1080p pixel density is perfectly adequate at the smaller screen size. It's also a lot cheaper, and not many rigs can hope to achieve anywhere near 360 fps at 1440p anyway where it might actually be achievable at 1080p
I agree with you. But the tempting thing about this monitor is the 25 inch mode that allows you play at 1332 which gives the monitor 108 ppi. Compare that to 89 on a 24.5 1080p monitor
@@nashwalker7 Is it actually 1332 though? If so how did you find this? Everything I found about it says that the 25" mode is 1080p
@@nightstorm10 yes it is. Optimum tech and another video confirmed it. That feature alone makes it worth it. I’ve been wanting a higher ppi on a 24-25” monitor since I got into pc gaming
@@nashwalker7 Absolutely it makes it worth it to me too and will probably buy if I can confirm this. Not sure why this isn't talked about more. Will try to find the videos you're referring to. Thanks!
@@nightstorm10 I just sent it above
Unfortunately, Nvidia is still using an old G-Sync Panel without the possibility of running 360Hz ULMB and "old ports"....The Acer has 2x HDMI2.1 and one USB-C port
slight angle and can't see anything at 40% angle blacks become white.
thats what i got., 25 mode does not work. monitor goes blank.
quitting games into the desktop with hdr enabled sets contrast to 300% have to restart pc
delivered with dead pixel righ at the middle
when in SRGB mode can't adjust brigtness have to change to any other modes and go back to SRGB it keeps brighness of previous mode
screen delivered with lots fingerprints over it ,. and the surface somehow so crappy it is nightmare to clean even using professional cleaning cloths and solutions.
im sure i forgot something ..
Who looks at the rear of the monitor to be outdated? Really, how is it outdated if the internal and the technology is most current. One thing I will not see in the future small monitor size. 4K 27" will fade out. 32" and higher will be the standard. Thank you for your review. It helps. 😀
Tim, does GPU coil whine significantly more when playing games at 360 fps? Can you make video on this topic?
Though question, because results will vary, even between the exact same models. It's related to higher frames more than load alone; as it might be apparent at 1080p but gone at 4k (because of the lower fps).
I undervolt so there is less coil whine at 360fps at 2550mhz 0.875mV than say stock 2650mhz 1.100mV with a 4090.
Now this is what we want
Can you retest with ULMB2 please?
Would you recommend waiting for a 4k 240hz flat screen or 1440p 360hz?
4k 120hz 1ms srt. if u want higher fps u can easily disable adaptive sync at the cost of screen tearing.
Should I wait for more panels like this or buy as soon as restock????
Is the M28U worth it?. Full regards.
While this is well out of my price range now, I look forward to this trickling down the product stack.
I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW. This is gonna be a Day 1 purchase for me.
I own this monitor. Does enabling HDR still provide a better experience than if I left HDR disabled for gaming?

24 zones edge lit in 2022?
We can hope CES 2023 brings +1000 zones monitors.
Hello,
I have this ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN and when using it with Gsync at 360hz, 8bpc, my monitor will sometimes go black for a split second the only way to stop this is if i change my hz to 144
GPU: Asus Strix rtx 4090
is there a way around this ?
Any help / advice is greatly appreciated
When I am gonna get an OLED 27inch monitor? Affordable as well
Please review the Acer Aopen xv252q-f it’s a 390hz 1080p with backlight strobing at the max refresh rate
Is 1.4 display port good ? And delivers 360hz on PC?
I bought an Alienware 120hz but it doesn’t deliver it for HDMI, I haven’t tried it with display port yet bc I just got my PC, but I want to make sure I’ll get 1440 with 360HZ using Display port
i would find it good if you show the nits when backlight strobing is enabled
Is there going to be a review of the Alienware AW2723DF? It seems like a more affordable alternative to this.
Hey Tim, thanks for the video. Do you plan to review the new Alienware QD-oled?
No reason to, it's basically the same monitor just with -10hz and not g-sync module
@@chitorunya oh, good to know
@@brownie43212 I know, I'm saying that there is no reason to do another review because the only difference is -10hz and no g-sync module. Which these are cost cutting measures which change basically nothing about the monitor except making it cheaper.
Any dead pixels and backlight bleed on your particular unit?
Hi Monitors Unboxes (or anyone whos tried both) Is the input lag between the PG27AQN at 240hz (rather than 360hz) noticeably lower than the native 240hz PG279QM which is also much cheaper ?
If you just lock all games at 240fps is input delay of the newer model still noticely faster when not running at 360hz?
HI GUYS, big fan, do we have any ETA on 360hz oled like the 27 240hz asus?
tempted to buy that and replace my samsung g7.
is the HDR much better on the asus compared to g7?
Does the screen allow you to play in 4/3 résolution 1920x1440 at 360hz?
Great review as always Tim. I have the PG279QM the 240hz version of this monitor and despite the high refresh rate I wasn't overly blown away by the monitor. The typical IPS backlight bleed, washed out blacks, poor HDR performance and contrast. Good to see this IPS panel improves in some areas though. I think I speak for many people when I say I can't wait for a 27"- 32" high refresh rate, OLED panel with decent HDR.
Yeah the only thing they give us are stupid ultra wide and also curved monitors which no one buys or IPS panels with a QD layer. How about a normal 1440p or 4k QD OLED with HDR and at least 160 Hz refresh rate, also 27" - 32". I still don't understand why they start this new cool technology - QD OLED - with such monitors. Such a waste, almost lost all my hype because this thing doesn't get traction. What's it been? A year already?
@@lolasdasdasdasdasdas Agreed. A 16:9 Widescreen, 32", 4K, 160hz+, G Sync Ultimate, HDR, OLED is my dream monitor. I keep looking at the Dell Alienware AW3423DW QD-OLED monitor but I'm not really a fan of ultrawide or curved screens. LG are starting production on 27-32" OLED monitors and hopefully we see them sometime in 2023. If LG can make a 27-32" monitor based on their C2 42" OLED TV with a slightly higher refresh rate and more PC orientated they will be onto a winner.
@@IIMAVII Sounds better than nothing but I would prefer QD OLED over LG OLED with WRGB.
@@lolasdasdasdasdasdas 100%. I Only mentioned LG as I know they are actually making 27-32" OLED monitors. Hopefully we get to see someone make a Widescreen 27-32" QD-OLED monitor soon.
So for single player games what's the better OD?
Can you turn the fan off by changing brightness down a notch?
