      Your voice is awesome and recognizable, familiar stranger :) I find the coating on the newer 12 speed group-sets is far inferior than the older 11speed group-sets. All my 12 speed cranks and components look so beaten up after less than a year of riding with it, compared with years of riding with the 11speed stuff, which still looks great.

      Or a better wheelset by the price difference, also selling that crankset and cassett for Rotor ones, will end up going to close down the weight diference, 250 gr is easy to cut on that ultegra grupo

    Great video! I’ve rode both groupsets and only prefer the Dura-Ace over the Ultegra because of the esthetics of it with the gloss black finish. But performance wise, they are identical in shifting speed and feel. You can easily save 200 grams by simply switching from butyl tubes to TPU tubes. Or upgrading other components for that $1,600 price difference. But it really just comes down to personal preference.

    I've gone for 105 Di2 derailleurs, calipers, cassette and chain paired with Ultegra cranks and shifters. Might have to go with ultegra front derailleur in future because it (and DA) will support the new Ultegra (and DA) 46/36 chainring combo. This really is a sweet chainring combination for the modern all-road bike, paired with the 105 series 11-36 cassette.

  • @azrulananda7474

    Buy Ultegra di2 without crankset. Use the difference to buy nicer carbon power meter crankset. And it will still be cheaper than buying full Dura Ace groupset. And much better crankset. Weight might be lighter also.
    Or use the price difference to buy very very nice wheelset!

  • @Thighwatts
    @Thighwatts 9 месяцев назад +11

    I just built my 2023 SL7 S-works with a mix of Ultegra and Dura ace parts. I saved about $2k and it came out to 162 grams more than the full Dura-ace. I used Ultegra front and rear mech, Ultegra shifters, and calipers. Dura ace cassette, chain, rotors, and 54/40 crankset. I couldn't justify the price for just ~200 grams of saving. I'm also ordering the titanium claps for the shifters and carbon pulley cage from Dura Ace for about $200 total which will be closer to 100 gram weight difference.

    Most people should stop caring about bike weight and be more concerned about rider weight. Unless you are in top shape and racing, counting grams is INSANE.

    • @slowcyclist4324
      @slowcyclist4324 9 месяцев назад

      And most people should stop thinking that bike weight is irrelevant.
      Losing bike weight is just a simple matter of paying money. Losing rider weight takes so much more effort.
      It’s smarter to just pay 3k and lose 300g, than suffer 30 salads just to lose 30g.
      plus, your bike looks better, which is what matters anyway. Not as if you’re some TDF rider. Pretending to care about rider performance is stupid when anyone not a TDF rider is just a pretend pro anyway lol.

      In my place we can buy groupsets without cranksets. That way we are free to choose what crankset is o install.

    I got Ultegra men's edition, I couldn't bring myself to waste $1,000 for the millennials groupset edition, a.k.a. "electronic & disc" and technically speaking, Dura Ace is for the ones that like to have nice things regardless of "price".

      Weird, reports from everywhere suggest the new rotors warp less than the outgoing (shared with MTB) ones.

      @@thedownunderverse idk man, I got mtb rotors on my 23kg e bike going true no issues and my new latest model ultegra only done 500km and warped :( I'm too scared to bend it back as I heard they are quite delicate so I'm just putting up with constant rubbing and grinding when it's rainy. I've reset my pistons and aligned it but when I use white paper and look thru the pads I can see the rotor going left to right (yes it's on properly and torqued)

    There's no way you can label Ultegra as mid tier, mid of the top tier if any but that feels wrong taking in account how premium this stuff is

      @GCPerformance18 it is interesting if you can mix and match 105 and Ultegra to achieve the system weights of a full Ultegra kit. Also, if you still wanted a rim setup by using the STR9250 levers .

    Just take a shit before your ride and you'll loose the 261 grams. Dura-Ace is dead at this point. It's really only for bragging rights. You can easily save 260+ grams by swapping much cheaper parts of the bike. A 2k price differential for these groups just doesn't make sense anymore.
    Edit: Go look at the videos where they weigh the bikes of the pros before races. Most of them are now on aero framesets, and the average total weight is around 18lbs. Half a pound literally means nothing in this day & age.
