Sadly, I was not born in the 80’s so I never got to witness the glory days of the 747 with my own eyes, or fly on one... so I’m really thankful for the existence of these videos to give me a taste of the past :)
There used to be a regularly scheduled United flight out of Lindbergh Field in San Diego to Hawaii. My wife and I would watch it taxi and as it would turn to the runway there would be sections of the turn where it would be completely silent. Usually we would see several planes take off before the747, and you get used to the angle they rise from the tarmac. The 747 would end up using what seemed like half the runway of the DC-9s and 727s and it would leap off the surface climbing twice as fast. That was 1985.
Nice- always loved 747s- I can remember in 1990 watching some of these birds landing and taking off at LAX while my plane was waiting to taxi to the gate. I had a BLAST watching the birds I never thought I'd get to see- I've been to CLE many times but NEVER saw large planes like 747s there- only smaller jets- but this takes me back to when I was 14 waiting to taxi to the gate, watching the planes land and take off- makes my day!
Nice video of Jumbo jets at LAX Airport, I wish there would be more take offs because it shows the power of the 747s engines and Aerodynamics. Nice nostalgia video of what LAX used to be a 747 paradise.
I used to be able to go to KMCC and usually see a 742 every weekend or so. For the last month there has been no 742 at KMCC. I am really starting to miss those old 742s. (N470EV and N471EV)
@mytmousemalibu, the last one that I did was in November 2010 called "Classic 727 Action at MIA", it was a much shorter video than this but it had some really cool content.
@compdude100, sorry I didn't catch that, thanks! I used two different VHS tapes for this video, one was from 1993 & the other was from 1991. I changed the description to reflect that.
Thank you for such a memorable collection. Viz. the UA SP, I must be lucky, because I always saw them here in Seattle. I guess they were ex-PanAm. They flew, I think, to LHR and NRT out of SEA.
Me too! I vaguely remember them and I do have a photo of one of them I shot from the Seattle terminal as a kid in 1991. Like you said, they were ex-Pan Am and they came as a package deal with the Pacific routes that United bought from Pan Am. I have no idea if UA used the SP on routes other than the Pan Am Pacific routes (I was a kid), but LHR is such a short trip from SEA that BA kept using their 747-200s even after they had started taking delivery of the 747-400, so I assume that UA used the SP on the long Pacific routes that really needed that kind of range. Like maybe Hong Kong, in addition to Japan? But I really have no idea!
The incomparable 747, nothing like it and there NEVER WILL be anything it. The 747-400 is still the world's fastest subsonic commercial airliner. Now Air China will become the second airline to use the new 747-8 Intercontinental.
I heard that Cheech and Chong purchased a 747-100 new in 1970, and that they had the entire main passenger deck modified into a gigantic bong, with smoke pipes leading from the main deck jutting through the floor of the upper deck. Is this true?
I remember when I was about ten years old the 747 flying over and it made a weird noise. You didn't even need to look up in the sky to know it was a 747. Does anyone else remember this?
Back in the days when 747 ruled the skies 😢😢😢😢😢
then ETOPS came along and ruined it
There’s nothing wrong with 747
Some Software problems idk WTF WAS THAT
I love that United 747SP.

This is when aviation was interesting
That beautiful UA 747SP… 😍 I remember seeing those fly over in Seattle when I was a kid. Amazing footage as always, Ryan.

Eye and ear porn...nothing beats the 747.Always enjoyed every minute on board of the queen of the skies
the classic sound is the best
almost you can't hear the sound of the modern airplanes
Thanks a lot for the Varig old paint I miss that so much
wasn't expecting to see a 747-100
UA SP @ 1:27. That's unbelievable. Your videos are ridiculous! Bravo. That one SP sequence just erased a year's worth of RJs cluttering videos.
Nice to see some classic 747s in classic bygone liveries. Great video!
Hands down the best plane ever.
Awesome! I've seen JA8188 in Sydney while flying for Southern Air, weird seeing it here back in the day.
Awesome video! Love watching the brief moments of the Flying Tigers.
Marvelous vid! The 200 series are my favorites
Great video. I love the b747sp and b747 100

I love this! Thanks for sharing!

Aaah 747 heaven 😍

How clean is that Cathay 744?!
Back When the old LAX control tower was running the show
This is real ASMR
Back when airlines had common sense.
The best plane 747 was my favorite to fly on
OMG I LOVE THE 747!!!
Ryan, do you have any footage of Varig's 747-400 ?
So any major ultimate compilation on the 727?
Before the 777-300ER replaced nearly all of these!
@ 02:29 you can see a varig 747-300 varig was the largest and greatest brazilian airline ever. Good times...
6:53 You can tell that 747 has to be near max ldg weight because of the higher approach speed :)
@RyanBomar Oh, I see. That makes much more sense.
NICE!!!!!! 💪😉💪
That was right at the corner of my former home, lol
YAY!!!
Wait a sec. If this was recorded in 1993, as you say, why is there a Pan Am 747? Just wondering; it's not like I have anything against Pan Am.
1991 & 1993 it says in the description
Anyone know the registration on the Twa ???
7:49 That was a butter landing tho
747 Varig vôo de Guarulhos para Los Angeles e Narita no Japão
Back in those days the life was so easy no
I phones all that crap was there
Not that I can recall

Air New Zealand should get the 747-8 Intercontinental
They should order 1or 2
***** I Hope The 747-8 Has A Bright Future More Airlines Should think of it as a Replacement for the 747-400
fantastic but why you cut thrust reverse sound
I heard that Cheech and Chong purchased a 747-100 new in 1970, and that they had the entire main passenger deck modified into a gigantic bong, with smoke pipes leading from the main deck jutting through the floor of the upper deck. Is this true?
I imagine the crew and whatever passenger loads there were are still stoned and don't who, or where they are!
I remember when I was about ten years old the 747 flying over and it made a weird noise. You didn't even need to look up in the sky to know it was a 747. Does anyone else remember this?
