First things first -- Fuji needs to get you into their events. They finally came around and did it for Omar and for pal2tech. As for my reaction to this camera, I shoot with an X-H1 and and X-T20, so an upgrade is not out of the question. Seems like this camera is getting a very good reception from reviewers and I like what I hear. My hesitation is for two things: 1) PASM; and 2) low-light performance.
You have to look for the X-H2S better light performance, but still have the pasm button. Or wait for the X-T5 wich should have the good old "scroll wheel" (sorry don't know if you called them like that in english).
As of today this is the best APS-C camera thanks to 40MP and awesome ISO performance. On the paper ("photos to photons" noise charts) it may look like older 26MP fuji cameras (X-T3/4) have less noise, but it's only when you look at 1:1 crops. If you however match perspective on something like X-T4 and X-H2 (meaning downsample 7.7K X-H2 photos to 6.2K) then noise level is lower on X-H2 and on top of that you can apply DNR without lossing so much details, because X-H2 photos have much higher resolution. IMO even 12800 ISO photos are usable on this camera if you are only willing to put some work. I'm using topaz denoise AI and with the right settings results are amazing, and espesially if you downsample your pictures to something like 5K because then some small artifacts from AI sharpening arnt even visible. To be fair FF cameras like Sony a7R4 / 5 have even less noise thanks to their sensor size and even higher resoluton, but they are also way more expensive (not to mention good FF lens, because camera body is not everything). Thanks to topaz AI it's possible to get perfectly clean picture even at higher ISO even with APS-C anyway, so the gap between FF and APS-C is closer than ever. FF still has the edge when it comes to better dynamic range and DOF (f1.2 of APS-C will look like f1.8 on FF) but IDK if these differences are worth spending 2x more money, but I guess it depens on the perspective. If someone is loaded with money 💵💵💵💵 then good FF camera, or even medium format is the obvious choice.
Best comment I've seen in a while, was going to comment something similar. The 40mp xtrans is imo not at all worse in low light than the other x trans sensors. It's definitely not comparable with a a7s or something but it's plenty for any photography I'd say, and again the ai tools are getting better so you can clean almost any picture up afterwards
Not here for the gear, but I'll watch it to see the photoshoots. I get that the gear brings the views, but the portrait sessions are what set your channel apart from the rest. Looking forward to more.
The reviews on the XH2 I saw were reporting a materially worse autofocus performance vs the S version. Some were even saying there was not much improvement vs the XT4. Your perspective in that regard is interesting. I would be glad to hear further thoughts on this and also looking forward for your review of the autofocus performance in video. Thanks for the good work. 👍🏻
Thank you for the thorough review. I have an xt3 and am ready to upgrade. My main frustration with the xt3 has been image quality indoors. Not just noise per se. I can deal with noise. I am considering the xh2 and the Sony A7iv. I tried the Sony in a local camera shop and the high ISO performance was insane. However, to some extent on the Fuji, I can keep the ISO down with the wide aperture lenses. I am happy you took the time to comment on higher ISO performance.
My experience with the xt3 is it needs a certain amount of light to really look amazing and it can be hard to get even outdoors. But in good light iso performance is excellent up to around 3200-6400. Chances are you need a tripod or a flash or both since I don’t know what you’re shooting or how you are shooting it. Indoor light is often crappy or insufficient even in big expensive homes with lots of fixtures on. I shoot iso 500-3200 indoors with flash around f1.4-f4 and can get awesome results with good bounce techniques. Iso alone doesn’t really compensate for low light in the first place and aperture helps a lot but creates other issues like too little depth of field. I’d definitely try a $100 Godox before dumping money into 1.4 lenses or a new body. The little flash that comes with the xt3 is actually pretty pimp too-the trick is to expose for the room and then just shoot the flash in ttl mode works pretty nice 👍
@@matt88169 Thank you again for the analysis. I do have the Godox 685 that uses AA batteries. It does help, sometimes a lot, but it is limited. In some places I cannot use a flash. Also if a room is large, the light tends to overexpose near the camera and underexpose farther away. It is also sometimes tricky to use it with faster moving subjects. In any case, I think you explained this very well. The 1.4 lenses tend to have too little depth of field unless I am farther from the subject, which has its own issues. I suppose if these are the worst complaints we can come up with, things aren't so bad!
@@richardperlin8958 I totally get it. The lenses you use make a difference since bad focus or hunting is annoying - not all of the lenses I've used seem reliable in low light. My kit lens hasn't been great (even if I like the images), but he 23mm LM WR and 50-140mm made me realize that it gets better with Fuji. I recommend the Godox X-pro trigger too, it is awesome - you can use your flash off-camera which opens up a lot of placement flexibility or the ability to hand-hold the flash to quickly direct the light (a quick and very effective way to work IMO if you can handle the hand cramping!). I personally was shopping strobes but for my purposes am considering a second 685 because it is just so much cheaper, portable, etc. If you can set up multiple flashes, or flash+strobe, you can basically create whatever light you need. There are also constant lights which can be awesome since it helps with AF. Try out high speed sync with the Godox - you can run motion freezing shutter speeds and, if you bump the ISO up to like 1600/3200, can get very nice exposures. That said I understand that, for many reasons, bringing your own light isn't always possible. Will a full frame camera make all the difference? I think the conventional wisdom is that you gain around 1-2 stops versus an APS-C in low light. Frankly that really is nothing - that is moving up from f1.4 to f2/f2.8, or bumping from iso 6400 down to 3200/1600 (but not both!). If you could boost ISO, shutter, or aperture by 1-2 stops in the more challenging scenarios you face, would you get the shot or not? Only you can know that. I've played with a full frame camera, and they certainly are awesome. Someday I might get a full frame Nikon Z or something, but I know its not going to turn bad light into good light and it will mean bigger lenses and so on. I recommend you rent that Sony (with a good lens) perhaps, to satisfy your curiosity. I also recommend you just go nuts in terms of cranking up your ISO on the XT3 - even low ISO shots can look terrible, in my experience, if they aren't well exposed. Experiment with settings you normally wouldn't try - maybe there is a way to make it work. Good luck to you!
Stella is stunning. I had the X-H2, sent it back before the return window was up. Still might buy it again. I don't know. I shoot a lot of skylines at dusk, at base ISO, and f/8 for about 4-6 second exposures. I wasn't thrilled with the noise in those conditions even at base ISO. My ancient by today's standards Nikon D810 is way better. The detail on the X-H2 was pretty good, I also think lens choice is more critical, and the 16-80mm wasn't good enough for larger fine art prints. I'm also on the fence about a GFX camera, and I don't think the 50S II, with its contrast detect AF, and old sensor are super worth investing in right now, when FF cameras are surpassing it for less. I don't want a brick to sell, once they finally update it to a modern BSI sensor with phase detect. I do like the XT line, too with the manual dials and I've got a lot of X glass. I don't know. There is no perfect camera, maybe I just need to hire Stella, and use whatever the hell I have, lol.
For those of us who shot film for decades, I smile when I hear a camera 'only' manages 15-20 fps :D ... Either way, for the money this has got to be the kit
Great review, and as always, amazing photos. Truthfully, the work shared between you and the models you work with are some of the very best and most interesting I see. @@richardrandolph9794 I'm beginning to be swayed in that direction as well. That stacked sensor does help with focusing and the larger pixel cells will reduce noise at higher ISOs. Follow back with your opinion when you get yours.
Great review as always and your composition, model, location selection, lighting are always so on point!! WELL DONE!! I got mine last week and will finally be giving it some hardcore use next weekend. The placement of the AF button on the battery grip, flippy screen, and not having ability to put ISO on a command dial are my biggest pet peeves so far
Great overview Lee. Those Fujifilm colours look great as always. I think both iterations of this camera look great and will be awesome for different genres. I am sticking with my little X-S10 for now but I have got my eye on those two for the future. Keep up the good work :-)
My fav fuji cam is the XT1. X trans II just produces images that feel better than the XT2, XT3, XT4. But, I’m getting some vibes from this new sensor. The magic is back? XT5?
I bought a hotshoe smartphone adapter for mine, I use the flash light on my iPhone 14 pro max which sits above the camera in the hotshoe for lowlight, works great.
Great overview. I was thinking of ordering but I'm a bit hesitant, not becuase of the camera but because of the added cost of hi end CF express cards, UHS ii cards, additonal Cage, extra batteries. I'm not making money with this wonderful tool so I'm erring on the practical side. Perhaps I'll see what the XT5 will give us (or take away :) ). XH2 is such a temptress thought.
It has a Cfexpress and a regular sd card slot. You don't have to buy Cfexpress cards, but it's nice to have than not to have if you chooseto ise it. Cfexpress is the future and prices will fall. I as a tech enthusiast I fail to see why people will bypass new tech based on price when it clearly will be a future standard. That said buy it and use the regular sdxc slot until you find a deal on Cfexpress cards......they are out there. XH2 all day for 300.00 more over the XT5 for the 8k, Cfexpress, full HDMI, better evf, faster busrts speed, and video storage, bigger grip. I am selling my 4 month old XT4.
Hey, Lee, nice video review. Which of these cameras would you recommend for real estate photography and videography? Fujifilm XH2, XH2S or Lumix S5iix? Thanks!
Any of them will do. Just depends on your budget and the lenses you like. Right now I think there are more lenses for Fuji. But I do know that companies are starting to make a lot of lenses for L mount
I would like to. I use to do this until people started re-editing them and uploading as their own work and it was a pain in the butt dealing with that. So now I don’t do this. But I wonder if I created a patreon that have raw file uploads and people agree it’s just for their own tests if it would be a good option.
Lee - I love your style and watching your vid's. I wish that Fuji took you on board and used you more. My heartbreak is that Fuji completely forgot the stills shooter by bringing out both models with that horrible flip around screen. I shoot events and shoot over 50% of my images from down low in the screen. I can't have the screen hanging out the side - it has to be in line with the camera. Unfortunately, I've had to jump ship and go with Nikon. Such a crazy shame that Fuji burned all of us stills shooters. I've heard from Fuji Rumours too that the X-T5 will have that ridiculous screen as well.
Hi Lee, thanks for the review! Just wanted to ask in terms of autofocus- were you mainly shooting on AF-S or AF-C? Can i trust fujifilm and just leave the settings on AF-C full time now so that i can get everything in focus while the the subject is constantly moving (like the model in your video?)
Always appreciate your videos in context of doing an actual photoshoot. Looking forward to the 56 comparison vs the first version from an IQ perspective. Keep up the great work !
Great video Lee, and a great shoot! My dream is that, one day, an X-Pro and an X100 with that gorgeous looking Nostalgia Negative and a way to raise the end point of the film-curve to give a slightly clouded look in-camera. That's all I want. Then I can stick with the same two cameras for the rest of my life.
In low light you have to compare apple to apple : same printing size, not 100%. I that case h2s and h2 are very close. Also as you record more datas, after denoise the bigger mpix does its job
loved the shots Lee! how do you find the image quality vs fullframe like canon r5 or sony? in terms of details, color depth, dynamic range? this is a real compact system, lightweight and easy to pack and carry Thank you
Hi Lee, I just picked up the X-H2 and I'm loving it so far. Just curious, are you using the Ninja V for your viewfinder recordings? I've seen something on your hot shoe in a few of your vids (1min 14 in this vid) and I can't quite make out what it is. Is it a power bank to power the camera or is it a HDMI recorder of some sort? Cheers mate.
Any advices I am using Fuji X-S10 If I will move to XH2 it is any huge step to get highier quality of final images ? I am confused If it is really much better as my x-S10 can you help me make good decision ?
Well it’s almost double the resolution, you see some noticeable increase in detail. But it wouldn’t make your images better. What is better is the Autofocus and ergonomics. The xh2 is a more professional camera over the xs10
With about 50% more pixels we can expect more noise at the same high iso. But is it less then a stop compared to the x-h2s? At 2400 iso I would expect the same level of noise as the x-h2s at 3200.
Great video as always, keep it up man! I am looking for a new camera and XH2 sounds really solid choice. My first choice before i heard about this camera was the R6/Sony A7IV, how do you think this camera holds up against R6 or Sony A7IV, obvious its a full frame vs APS-C but does it compare vs these (in image quality, i dont care about video:) )?
Dear Lee - I hope you can help me! I have just received the new XF56mm F1.2 R WR and it seems to me that it has an issue: I use it on X-E4 and it is very noisy and focus hunting constantly regardless of settings. I have previously used XF56mm F1.2 R and I don't remember it having this focus noise. Could you advise me whether this is normal and what is your experience with the new lens? Is it possible I have a bad copy? Thanks in advance!
@@LeeZavitz Thanks for your feedback - your video reviewing the lens actually helped a lot and it made me realize my copy is fine, it's just a noisier lens than I would have expected from a new product. The focus is mostly working fine, although I would imagine it is better on the newer bodies. Thanks for all your amazing content!
Great job here Lee. Love your hands on style. Nice images here too. So, for me a new body is out of the question. Just way to expensive. So, I'm curious about the lenses on the older bodies. I have an XT-3. Do all of the newer lenses work on the older sensor?
I've been a Fuji shooter and then switched to L mount for pro work. any thoughts on switching back? day to day I'd rather it, but I still feel awkward about turning up to jobs with a Fuji (like I used to).
Know the strengths of your camera. I have the canon RP and folks think because of how it looks that it's really pro or when I stick a battery grip on it that it does better. It's how you act with the camera and the end result you give. No client will remember what camera you brought but how the photos and videos came out.
Do you think it’s worth upgrading to this if you are planning to stick with older glass? I’m curious if the fringer adapter will play well? I’ve tried some of my Nikon lenses on the xh1 and xt3 and they work decent.
I think it’s worth upgrading to any camera if you want to have the latest features. Will it make your images look better than an xt3? Probably not by much. Xt3 is still a great camera.
After seeing this I am almost sorry I canceled my pre-order for this in favor of the Sony FX30 but I'm sure once I get the FX30 I will be happy with my choice. I have more than a few hybrid cameras but no cinema cameras so I went with the Sony. Thanks for another great video!
They are two completely different animals. I think if you are more focused on video the fx30 makes more sense. Less rolling shutter would be a big reason. That said. If you wanted to shoot 8k 10bit video the xh2 is the cheapest way to do that
I would still prefer an A7iv but that’s just me. Full frame is still the way to go for lowlight performance and dynamic range. Outside of that they are both great options

I want to switch to the Fuji system from the Canon RP. I can't wait for the day
Hey, Lee, nice video review.
Would absolutely go for xh2, record in 8k zooming to 4k, doing panning silk smooth with absolutely zero issues and still got 8k resolutions
I would love to be able to download one of the RAW files so I can see the quality if the sensor and eyeAF compared to my R5
I would like to. I use to do this until people started re-editing them and uploading as their own work and it was a pain in the butt dealing with that. So now I don’t do this. But I wonder if I created a patreon that have raw file uploads and people agree it’s just for their own tests if it would be a good option.
@@LeeZavitz sure, I understand. I’m just wondering if the camera and lens combination actually nails focus on the eye ball.
Do you think H2s is more video centric than H2?
Would the xh2 still out perform the xt2 in terms of low light ?
Yeah the flip screen isn’t for everyone. I really only like it for video but prefer a tilt screen for photos
The 1 dollar question is which one will arrive next xPro4 or x-T5. It sure looks promising!
🤞 xpro4 🤞
Hi Lee, thanks for the review!
Just wanted to ask in terms of autofocus- were you mainly shooting on AF-S or AF-C?
Can i trust fujifilm and just leave the settings on AF-C full time now so that i can get everything in focus while the the subject is constantly moving (like the model in your video?)
Always appreciate your videos in context of doing an actual photoshoot. Looking forward to the 56 comparison vs the first version from an IQ perspective. Keep up the great work !
I don’t have the OG lens to compare it to but I will be going based off my ownership of that lens for a few years. So far the new lens is awesome
@@LeeZavitz would be nice if you could drop some of your thoughts compared to what you can remember of the 50mm f1.
You should make your preset for capture one. They are awesome !
I tried. It’s nearly impossible to get them to match and also look similar across all camera brands.
Do you HAVE to use a CF Express card or can you use two SD cards with this camera?
Great video Lee, and a great shoot! My dream is that, one day, an X-Pro and an X100 with that gorgeous looking Nostalgia Negative and a way to raise the end point of the film-curve to give a slightly clouded look in-camera. That's all I want. Then I can stick with the same two cameras for the rest of my life.
In low light you have to compare apple to apple : same printing size, not 100%. I that case h2s and h2 are very close. Also as you record more datas, after denoise the bigger mpix does its job
great video and stunning photos :)
would be cool to have a comparison between the new 56mm and the 50 f1.0
Just curious would you recommend buying this over a Sony a7iv for a hybrid camera? Thanks.
I would choose the a7iv
When you do your review of the new 56mm 1.2, will you also compare it to the 50mm 1.0 in that review?
Awesome!! The photos look great. This be good for a small business for printed and web use.
loved the shots Lee!
how do you find the image quality vs fullframe like canon r5 or sony? in terms of details, color depth, dynamic range?
this is a real compact system, lightweight and easy to pack and carry
Thank you
Loving the pictures looks like ff quality.
Appreciate the review man look forward to the video review next
A7cii or this?
can you do a video comparing H2 vs H2s with their video capabilities please.. I am mainly a videographer so I want to know which on to buy
It’s a hdmi transmitter and I record it on my phone
I’m not sure how the math works out I’m just going based off what the images looked like and there is noticeable more noise past iso 3200
Excellent review. Looking forward to your review of the 56mm f1.2 mk ii.
My XT2 has stunning image quality.
Then keep rocking it
Very nice images and a cool review!
Can you please show us all your camera settings for portrait shoots?
thanks for this. gonna go order it right now
Nice camera. Love fuji. Worth the wait to listen to your review of it. Thanks much.
Can you compare the performances for 56 mk1 and mk2 on the XH2?
Hi is it true for af problem on xh2 even after firmware update?
Is the prores in 4k better then xt5 h265?
Lee looking good trimmed down!
a7c or xt5? video low light performance
Nice review because you was a fuji shooter for a long time
How does it compare to gfx?
great vid mate.
Will you try pixel 7 pro?
With the 40mp, what's the compressed raw file size like?
0:37 Great shots!
It’s still a noisy lens. But it autofocuses better than the older one. Maybe you do have a bad copy
Not all lenses work optimally with the 40MP on this camera. I am wondering if the XH2 + 33mm f1.4 make for a “Power Couple” combo?
The new primes 18,23,33 are all insane with it. The 56mm is good but it’s still not on the same level as the other primes
AF stickiness the same?
Great job here Lee. Love your hands on style. Nice images here too. So, for me a new body is out of the question. Just way to expensive. So, I'm curious about the lenses on the older bodies. I have an XT-3. Do all of the newer lenses work on the older sensor?
Yes they will
What is the best low noise camera at the moment ? If you don’t look at the price or megapixels ?
probably the Sony A1 or A7siii
The GFX100S
I'm confused between xh2, xh2s & xt5 🥺
so happy i was able to find your channel! this is dope!
Looking forward to mine...
Great work bro & did you shoot that in Raw or Jpeg
Hi Lee. Amazing images 🔥🔥
Q: What was the photo shoot video BTS shot on by Joseph?
Sony a7siii. That’s my main camera for shooting video
Fuji has been doing really good with photography for a long time now. Really only advantage comes in form of video. Xh1 takes great images!
That said. If you wanted to shoot 8k 10bit video the xh2 is the cheapest way to do that
@@LeeZavitz 100% agree. It's just both were competing for my 2k budget at the same time and I have the Canon R5.
Does the XH2 have anything like gamma assist when shooting F-log?
Yep it has gamma assist for flog/flog2
@@LeeZavitz Oh yes im in!
What was the first shot filmed with?
All my videos are usually filmed with the Sony A7siii
You should compare the 56 r to the 56 wr.. Please 😄
Please make a low light comparison with the 56mm f1.2.WR
Like lowlight autofocus?
@@LeeZavitz
2 aspects:
1. H2 56mm WR vs 56mm R - autofocus
2. H2 vs XT4 - lowlight
Didn't get invited to the event? Fujifilm Canada needs to update their guest list haha!
but fujikina wasnt an invite only event, you could just go for it if interested..
So this or the S??! I can’t decide!
Tell me more about that Casio you sportin there Lee.
It’s a 1988 Casio W-780
You can share x-H2 RAW files with Google Drive
Amazing videos man, quick question, which camera should I get, this or the A7iv? I mainly do wedding and portraits. thanks!!
I would still prefer an A7iv but that’s just me. Full frame is still the way to go for lowlight performance and dynamic range. Outside of that they are both great options
@@LeeZavitz do you shoot with Fuji for fun and Sony for pro work? Feels like for people starting out if makes more sense to use one system ($$$) but I’ve seen a lot of RUclips people who use the a7 for video and low light and stuff
Why iso 125 if you're shooting at 1/5000 shutter speed?
Why not?
@@LeeZavitz Because there is 0 reason you'd need 1/5000, so why not just shoot at iso100?
I gave you three 👍🏽
Thx bro
Nice!!! always.... Sensei...👺
Is it better than Sony a74?
In what way? They are both good as photo cameras. But xh2 has better video specs
@@LeeZavitz Overall usage/shoting recording?
The only thing wrong with this camera is the lack of a second SD card. I don't want or need CF Express. And they're stupid expensive right now.
nice
Hasn't "stunning image quality" been a thing in every single camera for the last 5-7 years already?
Basically. Every camera in the last couple years is so good, if you can’t get good results it’s not the cameras fault
Why U need this if U can make much better pictures with nikon 750 ??
