    I have been through Fujifilm XT-1, XT-2, XT-3, XH-1, XH-2 and XH-2S. I was so much looking forward to the improved autofocus and subject detection on the two latter. I had issues and the deteriorated with every firmware update. I shoot wildlife and in the end abandoned Fujifilm altogether. Too many soft pictures or even blurry also when the camera clearly indicated focus acquired.

    Same thing happened to me. I bought X-T5 in Autumn 2022, and I also had X-E4. In 2023 I sold all of my Fuji equipment and before I did that I bought Sony A/IV. Differences were almost immediately visible. Sony AF we don't have to explain. I'm really happy with my A7IV, and I have no plans to coming back to Fuji. Just to mention- I was Fuji shooter since 2018 and X-T3.

    This is a biggest issue that Fujifilm needs to deal with and yet, they are still not admitting their own problems officially. They are too stubborn and dont really care about what's going on. Instead they only care about their revenue as they are gaining a lot annually. They seriously dont care about professionals and it will ruin their business in camera industry.
    AF issue is a huge problem cause it only proves that they cant even do a basic stuff. They still didnt remove all problematic firmwares from their website and they suppose to check and fix firmwares before they even release them.
    The other problem is there are a lot of fanboys such as Fuji Rumors and Fuji subreddit are still not accepting the fact and instead of blaming all users for not using AF properly. Can you believe that BS?
    At this point, Fujifilm is at high risk to lose their camera industry for their poor reputations and it's just a matter of time before that happen.

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  2 дня назад

      You’re right, Fuji needs to take responsibility for these AF issues, especially for pros who rely on it. It’s frustrating when fan communities dismiss real problems instead of pushing for fixes. Fuji really needs to step up before they lose more loyal users.

    • @nicholasmatys

      It is safe to assume that Fujifilm is quite embarrassed about these autofocus issues. Basking in profits and neglecting their clients is not their MO.
      They are likely doing extensive testing to ensure they release the right solution to fix this mess. As frustrating as this situation is, I feel like they’ve got one more shot with their next update, and I really don’t believe they'll mess it up. While it's tempting to consider other options, I don't see an urgent need to pack up my Fuji gear and switch... yet.

    I’ve shot Fuji for several years now and have an XT3 and x100V. The XT3 has very basic continuous AF which I find isn’t good at all unless there is really good light. I’ve recently started shouting more sport and was going to upgrade to the XH2S but then the continuous AF trouble started so I’m sitting on my hands for a couple of months to see if they sort it out but if not it will probably be a switch to Canon for my interchangeable lens camera.

    Like you, I am a former Canon shooter (close to 40 years), however as I moved away from the news biz, I really was tired of all the heavy rigs, glass, and so forth, and frankly just burned out altogether. I discovered Fuji around 2016 and I was hooked, the dials and actual f-stop rings with numbered f-stops on the ring itself…😱, I was teleported back to 1979… where I began my journey. Now the AF issues…Look, I was willing to overlook the infamous AF anomalies of the Fuji system, I figured that they would iron these out over time, and to some degree they did. However as I began to move back into shooting some sporting events, airshows, etc...over the past two years, this is where the AF inconsistencies seemingly inherent with the Fuji lineup really became a concerning issue. I currently shoot with a variety of gear, the X-T5, X-T3, X-Pro 3, X-Pro 2, and X-E2s, and even more glass. Honestly, the ‘XH’ lineup never held much appeal for me (I love my old-school dials). The ‘5’ is (was rather) the workhorse, though with the firmware issues discussed in this video also affecting the ‘5’ as well, I have brought the ‘3’ out of retirement, and is quickly regaining its workhorse status. A side rant, I was very “annoyed” at Fuji when they sent the ‘XT’ down to the minors, but I became extremely pissed when they ceased production of the booster grip meaning no real way to comfortably balance my monster 150-600 to the ‘5’…Man, I am glad I kept the ‘3’ with its “bottom half”. The flip side is I lose that 40mp sensor when I slap that lens onto the X-T3 and as I still have to do a lot of cropping, those extra megapixels come in handy. Back to the subject at hand…Fuji seems to have lost a lot of it’s ‘mojo’ over the past two years, so where for I stand with Fuji? Not 100% certain, but one thing is for sure, I am NOT (like many I suspect) going to immediately upgrade with the next update, I'll let others be the Guinea Pigs, sit back and observe. Honestly, I prefer to stay with Fuji, dammit, I love these cameras, especially the X-Pros, and XEs. I have $$$$$ tied up into Fuji gear, it would cost me dearly to switch and frankly, no other system has the appeal of this system, flaws and all. That said if Canon were to go down this ‘retro’ route, like Nikon seems to be doing, and say, bring a rig in the style of an F1AE or an A1 as well as a Canonet Rangefinder, that may be a siren call, to hard to ignore.

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  3 дня назад +1

      Wow, what a journey! Totally feel the love-hate relationship with Fuji. The AF struggles can be a dealbreaker. Fingers crossed Fuji gets their mojo back soon-though a retro Canon could definitely turn some heads! 👀

    I downgraded mine to 1.03 and then update to 2.10 because FW 3.00 is when Ai Algorithm AF was implemented. If Fujifilm get rid of Ai or allow us to turn off AF in 7.01 or FW 8.00, AF would be just as good as FW 1.03 ~ FW 2.10 and we would still have those new features but we are still missing waveform and anamorphic lens guide.

    I bought two XH-1s - sold them a couple years later due to random shutdowns and AF unreliability. I used them for filming live theater but found it was not safe to use them for paid work. Always preferred Fuji's image to Canon but slowly began using Canon.
    Then the XH2S came out. Bought two of those. After multiple jobs where the AF caused me some heart-stopping crises, put them aside and began using Canons again. Canons - a C70 and R6MKIIs in this case - were rock solid for reliability and AF. Still have the
    XH2S's but can't be reliably used for my kind of work - although I do sometimes use them as a C Cam recording 6.2K of full stage, in manual focus mode.
    It's really a shame - the XH2S image is just insanely good. Fuji should put the XH2S sensor in a cinema camera build. They should look at what Apple did years ago and streamline their offerings. There are way too many X series bodies. They should have 2 or 3 X series bodies, a couple GFX series bodies and a cinema camera or two. A C70 style camera with that XH2S sensor would be amazing. Fujis problem is focus, in two ways - their attention seems scattered over too many camera bodies, and their autofocus never gets straightened out.
    I'll always hang onto my Fuji gear, and use it when I can, but it's a shame seeing them not living up to what they could be.

    • @WesKriesel
      @WesKriesel  2 дня назад

      I totally get it-Fuji's image quality is incredible, but the AF issues are tough for professional work. A streamlined lineup and a cinema camera would definitely take them to the next level!

      No, true story. However, my buddy @omarknowsphotos told me to stick it in the refrigerator. I did, and actually the lens mount metal contracted enough to break it free. However, I had to let it fully air/dry out because there was condensation on the lens mount and I needed to get it back to room temperature before I put a DIFFERENT lens back on!

    Also sold my R5 for XH2S. Mostly because RF lens lineup kinda limited. Since then canon has released the 200-800. I’m still very happy with my XH2S performance with latest firmware. Hopefully we will see improvements coming to current models and finally rock solid performance in newer models.

    Sold my XT5 and XH2 and picked up a Sony A7R5. Absolutely zero regrets. I know people talk a lot about so many ergonomics being bad, but I actually really enjoy the button and dial layout. I went with a lot of native lenses, but you can find third-party lenses and probably spend less for a full frame set up than what you were paying for Fuji glass.

    So a camera is good when ONLY autofocus works?

  • @doghouseriley4732
    @doghouseriley4732 3 дня назад +2

    To be honest. I moved from Canon to the X-H2S and haven't looked back. I don't seem to have the autofocus problems that you are showing. I did spend an aweful long time setting it up for the sort of photography I like but if you are going to spend over £2k on a camera, why not invest the time and get it right. The last firmware update improved things on my camera. I shoot at 10-40 fps and some aren't in focus......................... seriously.
    One thing I have learned is that the Fuji crowd are a strange bunch. The canon fanbois will walk over broken glass for Canon to the extent that they claimed that the R7 was a great camera. But Fuji fans are very different. Fuji's autofocus has previosuly been pretty rubbish and most Fuji fans agreed with that but the "Fuji experience" was worth it.
    When the X-H2S came in, it introduced an autofocus system that was so much better than anything Fuji had done before and only slight down on Sony and Canon (easily comparable with Nikon at the time). The problem was that Fuji's antiquated little dials had gone, so the Fuji traditionalists (dinosaurs) got on the back of the X-H2 and X-H2S. As soon as people start to question the AF, out they come like the slugs in my garden on a warm wet night.
    The truth is that the X-H2S needs setting up, it's not like a Canon or Sony that pretty much works fine out of the box. And, in general, people are lazy. The number of people I have seen shooting the R7 in Auto would amaze you. So if you really can't set up the autofocus to your liking, go and borrow an XT-2, see how that autofocus works, or doesn't.
    As someone who spent the best part of 30 years shooting Canon, Fuji is doing a great job. If the autofocus is not to your liking, go buy a R1 - apparently the autofocus is better but you'll need another £5k.

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps 3 дня назад

      Thumbing you up because I basically agree with you, but some things are true;
      1) AF has mildly suffered over the f'w update releases for sure (but in other ways improved)
      2) 6.00 really did break it quite badly, 7.00 took a long time to address it, and it only kinda fixed it, there are some weirdness left over that wasn't there before that still needs mopped up.
      I'm a working professional using 2x XH2S's, I tested 1.03 for over a month on paid jobs but have returned to 5.03 where I feel the AF + Feature set is better balanced. 1.03 is better in some ways, other ways not, and vice versa. I am mostly content with the AF performance, I get by for what I do, but I can tell it could be much better for sure. I get my keepers but it does require spamming more than I really ought to. Definitely tuning some settings can help as you say, 8fps also seems pretty important if seeking accuracy, the higher burst speeds will collect a lot of duds. But overall the core of the AF is not great, so the tuning is really applicable for a smaller percentage boosting in results.
      I understand the hate, and its semi valid from the customer base. I still think the camera has a huge amount going for it, especially at its price point, I need the unique features it has so am willing to put up with slightly less awesome AF compared to the competitors. I know if I move to another brand I will be pleased in AF but punished elsewhere. At least with poor AF I can up the shots that assists with guaranteeing what is required (I just spend more time culling in post). But with another camera system they could lack certain features I am just stuffed 100% with no workaround, AF feels like something that can be semi worked around for a lot of scenarios. If a camera isn't stacked sensor it just isn't stacked sensor and that can be the difference in thousands spent. If I went R1 I will be eating baked beans on toast for a year... not worth it.

    • @BoxingTunes
      @BoxingTunes 2 дня назад

      Yeah i looked at Full Frame Nikon and with one prime and a decent zoom you are looking more than twice fuji and don’t they the colours. I shoot boxing a ton and whilst I don’t seem to nail as many shots as before it’s not hurting my work. The only reason I was looking to switch is because the camera freezes too often and i’m shooting once in a lifetime moments.

    • @daveboyle5751
      @daveboyle5751 2 дня назад +1

      When we know how great the XH2S was with the original firmware and then see a gradual decrease in AF performance from firmware that was supposed to improve it, that is unacceptable. this dribble about setting up AF and people are lazy show how little you know and understand about the issues Fuji has induced. i guess if your just going out taking the odd snap shot every now and then you won't ever see the problem.
