The beauty of being 68 is that I don't give a hoot about what other people think of me....I let my hair go gray 15 years ago along with a super short pixie cut,. I can't be bothered with long hair, color, make up and the like. My concept of simplicity is to enjoy life, eat healthy, be out in the woods. My clothes are handmade or thrifted. I don't care about trends , I love my linen dresses, hand knit sweaters and socks. Don't voluntarily crawl into a box you don't want to be in, you are lovely and quirky and have taught even me a thing or two!

New here and I love your new haircut
It's always been amazing to me how entitled people feel to have opinions about a woman's short hair. When I had short hair like yours years ago, it actually made people angry. So wild! The fact that anyone would say something to you (or any woman with short hair) about a haircut that isn't a compliment hints at how some people's views about what is acceptable in a woman's appearance are still incredibly narrow. Femininity is so much broader than long, flowing hair, and we don't owe the world "femininity" anyway. Also, I agree with others here who believe that going to a professional for your hairstyle doesn't make you less intentional or minimalist (not that you need to identify that way) - your reasoning is very sensible. You put such care and consideration into your wardrobe - having a lovely haircut that fits with your personal style absolutely makes sense.

@@anagoldberg I agree with everything Robin said above, and would add: Although I have chosen to cut my own hair for over 35 years now, the main reason is that if I don't like how it turns out, I can blame no one but myself and can learn better for next time, and it's easier to just know how I want it to look than to communicate that to someone else who doesn't always understand my intention clearly. Also it saves money. And I'm willing to live with the results while it grows out if I don't like how my self-done haircut turns out. But just because I do it that way doesn't mean anyone else should; it's just my preference and habit. I even used electric clippers for several years to keep my hair super short, as I loved the practicality of it and the ease of keeping it clean on long camping road trips (wash my hair easily and quickly with just a washcloth!). I got called "sir" occasionally by mistake but just laughed it off with the person when that happened. At the moment it's on the longer side for me, shoulder length, but I'm enjoying putting it up on my head in different ways. I also go and pay for things some other people do for themselves, because it's simpler, less stress, and more enjoyable for me to just go and purchase the thing or the service. I don't think it makes you less of a minimalist at all if it enhances your life to purchase certain services or things. There isn't a minimalist rule book that we all have to follow! 😎
My gods woman. You have no idea how extraordinarily beautiful you are, both inside and out. One of the posters here, Gerrit said it succinctly, "Don't voluntarily crawl in other people's boxes". There is a certain type of face and eyes that pixie cuts enhance and you have them. There is literally billions of dollars made by making people feel like crap about themselves. And it's true, you reach a certain age or experience a crisis of some kind and realize that none of that external, cultural, social expectations and norms means a damn. Fly and be free beautiful soul.

I'm retired from it now, but I did hair for thrity years, and the amount of times I heard from women that they'd love to have short hair, but were afraid what their husband would say...or that they wouldn't feel feminine. I've been watching your channel since the beginning, and I always thought that you looked so chic with your short hair, and that it just suited you so perfectly! In my 53 years on this planet, the best thing I've learned is, that you have to do what is right for you, and give up caring what anyone else has to say about it. That level of freedom and liberation are paramount in my exitence. And not that my opinion matters, but that haircut is super well executed, and looks absolutely amazing on you!!!

I love the new haircut and the message in the video is something that we should all remember. We are the only ones living our lives. Period. I truly believe people that tend to criticize and give negative comments are both unhappy and unfulfilled.

We spend so much of our loves trying to fit in, only to realise we never did. And we love to label ourselves and try to fit into a box. I don't do that anymore. If you like certain concepts from different ways to live, adopt that into your life and reject the rest. You live your life the way you want to.

You had the short hair when I found your channel ❤. I am an old hairdresser from back in the day when “Twiggy” cut her style much like yours today. I believe that a person looks and feels better when they style their hair how they want it ❤ PS short hair is very easy to manage to me goes with minimal life style as don’t need lots of products or styling tools, so your not going against your minimal intention but embracing it your way ! Love the new hair do ❤🎉
I belong to no group. I am my own group because there is only one of me and I owe no one any explanation for anything that I do. Fact is, if we choose to allow ourselves to be sucked into or forced into a group and feel we have to follow their rules, that is our fault. Do what you want to do as long as you are not hurting anyone else.
The new haircut suits you! As I’ve aged I’ve learned that my opinion about myself is the only one that counts. I’ve started to wear what I want and not care about norms and I feel the most authentic I’ve ever been. Clashing patterns… not a problem! I’ve noticed people respond better to me as my authentic self. Good for you and your journey!

Dear Ana. I remember back in Sibiria you wore your hair already short, which looks good. Throughout our life, we will change, our thoughts will change and what is good for us what once wasn't or vice versa. It's totally normal. I like your hair short or long (I wear a pixie cut for 2 decades, I have wavy/ curly hair, but can't manage it long) .You need to feel comfortable this is the most important thing and not what others think. I started watching your channel when you had short hair, and I accepted and respected your choice. The only person that you need to please to enjoy your appearance is YOU. If I don't feel comfortable and at ease with what I look like or wear, It doesn’t matter how many people tell me it looks good, I am not going to wear it. You look happy and lighter. I too have been thinking of cutting off all my hair. And have been going through the same thoughts process. I like long hair, and it is at my mid back, but I decided to let my natural undyed hair grow in grey and brown and just want a clean start. However, the thought of all the comments from people, and the decision indecision about the style petrify me. I once shaved my head (in response to a friend losing her hair) and I really hated the way people treated me -- some thought I had a mental breakdown, some thought cancer. Sigh....

Please let your natural hair grow in - nature doesn’t get things wrong and as we age our skin tones lighten in response to our hair tones going grey, as an artist I really notice the tones and I love it when people trust the silver fox appearing !

Ana I know we can all probably relate to the struggles of feeling trapped in a box but I just want to let you know that seeing you explore and choose to push your own boundaries has helped me and most likely many others continue to rediscover themselves. Just wanted to say thanks is all.
My concept of minimalism is to spend less on things, but well on services. When you buy services, you support skilled people in your community. Your stylist did a beautiful job and you look so free and happy with the short hair.

The growth of the need to identify, label, box, and brand ourselves has really grown with social media. Introvert/extrovert, neurodivergent/neurotypical, minimalist/maximalist, gender identification… it can feel limiting when most of us are evolving on multifaceted spectrum. There is often overlap. I might be minimalist in areas of my life but maximalist in others. I might be frugal when purchasing items but generous in my choice of where I Iive. Why let our desire to be accepted into a self labeled group dictate how we express ourselves and live our life. Do what makes you feel confident and liberated. Allow yourself to change. Our circumstances change as do our bodies. I dont tell myself I only wear sandals and shorts when winter comes. I shift or I’ll be cold and uncomfortable. The same is true when a social situation changes. I adapt.

I have a double chin, and I thought this meant I couldn't possibly have short hair for years. But the reality is that one day, many years ago, I got entirely fed up of faffing about with my hair, went to a salon, and said "Cut it all off!" I think it's one of the most freeing things a woman can do for herself, to remove herself from the tyranny of longer hair which, let's be honest, is a pain in the butt most of the time. I can't imagine that I will ever go back to having longer hair, and even if it needs cutting every six weeks or so, it's my one indulgence. There's a reason women cut or change their hair when they're going through a breakup - they want that freedom and to clear their energy. I love it for them, and I love it for you. You look awesome!

I do not confirm to anything or anyone. I don't like labels, I don't like groups. I just like individuals and I'm very selective ❤

We should always gift ourselves (and others!) with the option to change. Life is both very short, and very long. And how pointlessly limiting it would be if we never allowed ourselves (or others!) to think, or desire, or discover, or grow, or explore, or see, or feel, or just be in any other way. If something makes YOU happy and comfortable, and doesn't cause harm to others, that's really all that matters.
Although, if you ask me, you also look absolutely stunning in the new short hairdo! And I hope you really enjoyed just letting someone else cut it for you 😊

I had very short hair for some years and recently I grew it out a bit. (Most people would still consider it short.) All the time, people are telling me my hair looks so feminine now, but the whole thing baffles me, like you said.
As far as hair, I think you have most beautiful hair, color AND health of hair. You do you in all regards.

I’m 47 now and finally ditching the dye because I’m just so tired of hiding who I am to make other people more comfortable with my appearance. It’s so hard not to care what people think though. I want to be basic!! As plain and basic as i can. It takes so much energy to maintain a "special" persona. God forbid you ever break out of character! After a while you become a slave to it. I do not wish to bear social messages, advertisement, or otherwise someone else's agenda through the graphics on my clothes, bags, cars, etc.

Fun! I love the idea of reclaiming your hair freedom. I was always in awe of your skills at cutting your hair! For me, getting some hair freedom was deciding that I wanted to cut my own! The worry about finding hairdressers, knowing what to ask for, reacting to the results, coping with it changing again, the money... Well, I've got a pair of scissors now and that was a huge relief, at least to begin with. We'll see where that particular journey goes 😄 I'm glad you've claimed some freedom!!

I like your new short haircut (at end of video). I think it's very pretty with your face. It looks smooth, practical, streamlined, neat, and comfortable. It's totally silly that anyone would comment to criticize--you be yourself and do what pleases you most. People trying to label each other (or even themselves) has always struck me as silly--can be fun or functional, like a "minimalist" label, but beyond that I see no point. Those are just mental categories, projected. Keep being you, whatever that looks like from moment to moment! 💖 From my own experience I would say that our essential nature is unchanging and beyond time, and at the same time it's fun to play here with endless expressions of the dimensions of What We Are. Enjoy it!

Wow your haircut is lovely just as it was before.
I have now reached the young age of 70. I got my first white hairs when I was about 17 I think! By the time I was 30 I had more white hairs than my dark brown ones and decided to put low lights in it. I've never liked going to the hairdressers but continued to go for quite a few years and have subtle colours put in. For the last over 10 years I have been pure white and not that I'm after complementary comments, I do get some about my hair colour. I love your weekly videos. xx
I love your short hair. It frames your facial structure nicely. Earrings will be nicely on display without the longer hair. And I like the black although I am sure silver would also look great. Overall, I think that changing hair styles is such a simple and easy way to change one’s presentation. Scary to think that some people like the same hairstyle for their entire lives. They do not know what they are missing.
No worries my dear. At 61, I'm still a rebel... Going my own way and I've always done that, without fear of growing old alone. Think it's better to be called basic knowing I´m more original than all the other group copies.

Oh yes! And I meant to say, when people try to use the word "basic" as an insult, it makes me laugh, because I read it this way: B = the archetypal mother, in esoteric wisdom. A = the archetypal father, likewise. S = the twisting path of seeking wisdom. With those ingredients (all being part of what I Am) then IC = "I see"! So "basic" could be the highest compliment and an excellent way of summing up the journey of life, if one is attuned.

Funnily enough, I cut my own hair with delight for 5 years, through covid, and now I went back to the hairdresser, too! I just got tired of it. The hairdresser told me they are seeing an uptick in business right now, as many people are returning to professional hairdressers!

When i came across videos of minimalism, it was so appealing to me at the start and i am delighted applying some rules in my life/household.
But later on, i realized that i am not enjoying it anymore and felt so restricted by my own self. Minimalism and simple living should be freeing on personal level. And if it doesnt feel that way, then we might be doing it wrong.
