Hi Anna,I’m a seventy year old carpenter and unfortunately a widower. My wife died back in 2004, and I’ve had one or two relationships which sadly didn’t work out. I’m pretty well resigned to the fact that my lie now is a solitary one. My son lives four hours away in Scotland and I visit him around seven to eight times a year and stay for up to ten days. We have a great relationship. My daughter lives about ten miles away and I see her most weeks , we get on well too so in this I am blessed. I live in a small village and I have a cottage and a bit of land, plus my workshop. Even though I sometimes don’t see or interact with anyone for a day or two,I have learned to be ok with that. Three years ago I taught myself to knit socks, and I always have a pair on the go ! I know it’s a bit unusual for a man , but it’s great to just sit and listen to (say) the radio whilst making something lovely and worthwhile . Many thanks for your videos Anna . Love and best wishes from England. X

I wake up several hours earlier in order to have quiet time for myself. This entire video is a gem but saying to let go to whatever leaves you empty was the most beneficial.

I am transitioning from a large home to an apartment/condo. All of that space made me feel empty and restless. It also contributed to the devision of my marriage. Before that, when we lived in smaller spaces, we seemed happier and more content with each other. Now I’m going back to a smaller space, but alone. I learned a lesson along the way, that bigger is not necessarily better. And that overall, less is much much more.

The 15min of silence first thing & “treating my saved time right” (expressed this way made so much sense) by not wasting that time scrolling mindlessly. These both resonated with me.

So good to see you, my friend! As the world around me seems to spin faster, you bring me such blessed calmness. Self care is an important part of being being healthy, especially for women, and we often set this aside as we tend others. Thank you for being so open and genuine, Ana. Your messages resonates with so many of us!

These are my favorite videos you make. I woke today from an emotional dream that made me look back over my life and I realized I have spent much of my life being judgmental and angry. It made me so uncomfortable and I didn’t know how to deal with my feelings. Then I realized I should simply forgive my younger self. It seemed too easy, but I think that self forgiveness is a portal out of emotional pain. Love you❤

I am always more peaceful when I wake up, journal, and do some slow Qigong exercises before allowing my responsibilities to take over my pace of living. Thank you too, Ana for your gentle & calm messages reminding me to stay calm & in the midst of chaos & just stay focused in the moment . You are very special and I appreciate you so much! I had a Grandmother from Ukraine, Russia really, back in the day, who taught me, by her doings and just living, that it was all the seemingly little things in life that were important, strengthening one, keeping one healthy, and so able to give from the heart to others. Your spirit in ways are just like hers. Love, Anne 😊

Wonderful quote from Virginia Woolf and especially pertinent since you are stressing being our authentic selves in the world. I think you have a gift of reminding us/me to seek out whatever experiences are of quality, however we define that. You are a reminder of the gifts and nourishment that come from gaining inspiration from and steeping ourselves in some of the world's best thinkers, writers and artists as well. Plus, I love your collar. For me, the morning begins with a cup of tea and a deep book. Later, yoga is the foundation of my well-being.

very well said Ana! I too have had to deal with extraneous noise in my life (not so much in childhood but for decades as an adult). Having to endure the chaos of student dormitories, cheap urban apartments, and all the noise of living in a big city nearly broke me. It has left me with a deep sensitivity to any unwanted noise, no matter how faint. People tell me to just ignore it but that is all but impossible. And yes, I do agree that learning to see the value of our personal creative output is difficult. As a musician and artist I always doubted my work, could only see the flaws, and had a hard time sharing it. I am retired now and am finally able to appreciate and enjoy the creations I produced for so many years. It is a joy to finally be able to see myself in a more positive way!

Hi Ana, thank you for another great, inspiring video!
I want to add another take on emptiness. In Buddhist philosophy, emptiness (shunyata) come with a question of "empty of what?", and the answer is "empty of a separate self". This means being full of everything. It is related to teachings of impermanence and non-self. Everything is changing constantly, so they are empty of any permanent self or essence, and no permanent self can exist independently of the causes of it. This brings us an understanding that all phenomena are interconnected and interdependent, as Thich Nhat Hanh explains interbeing. So, I understand emptiness in a positive way, but I hear what you mean in the video. Sometimes I experience that emptiness you mentioned as not being true to myself, or as being empty of my authentic self.
Anyways, lots of love from Turkey, dear friend! 🤍

Safe in our caves we write in hopes of cavemen finding our scribblings not, though we might confuse the writings ourselves if the content had no flavor. Its junxapose relatability with hopes of novelty with no or low nobilty. We aren't perfect when we write sometimes, but it still might be inspiring us or otherwise. Thats a modern duality reminicent of our previous revelling before we thought we could be kings. It to me feels like doubt or something. Thank you for such a kind insight.

You could also say, leave behind what makes you feel empty and move towards what fills your mind, heart and your body with joy and satisfaction. Even just the thoughts we think are important to consider. Why think about what makes you feel empty when you can imagine something joyous. The more you do this, the more happiness and gratitude for everything in life you will find.

I used to really struggle with meditation, but I made myself a playlist with only a very particular type of deep meditation music or nature sounds such as desert wind or underwater or ocean waves and very slow notes. My favorite is on Spotify, it is the Deep meditation music “Sand storm in the Arabian desert, The Gobi Sage relaxing sleep music and Sahara winds.”I’m very picky about what works for me but the ones I use relax my mind very much but help me not to wander and think as much. I try to remind myself I only have 15 minutes and that to me I know how important it is to relax my busy mind so I realize it’s my privilege and once the 15 minutes is over that is it, I will have to wait until tomorrow.

It took me two days to watch your video. I'm glad I saw it and grateful I waited. I have health issues that I won't go into here, but on your last tip. Sometimes I like emptiness. It is neat and uncluttered which is what I sometimes crave. It is simple and still. I might not like the image attached to it, but when I reframe it, wow! Neat, uncluttered, simple, still. I'm writing those words in my journal. Thank you so much for your clarity!

hello Ana... i love your videos and want to say that your work is really thought provoking. I have to think about what you have said about Emptiness...about getting rid of that which makes you feel empty inside. I have been working on emptying the personal self, letting go of the ego and seeing the beauty of emptiness. I am working on becoming comfortable with the emptiness and realizing I am more than that empty space. Hope this make sense???

I hate my job. The stress, the managing projects, but I can’t quit. I make too much money. I need to find just 30 minutes a day to do something I enjoy and create. That would be my own version of massage. I need to make this happen. Between my unfulfilling job and the news, I can feel the darkness starting to take over.
