Yes, our everyday life, feeding the cats, cleaning the litter box, taking out the trash, washing dishes, fixing meals, and doing other chores around the house, taking time to sit and read or play Sudoku, can bring up strong feelings of gratitude and joy for me. Every once in awhile I look out the window and see the sun shining on the trees, or the houses across the road, see squirrels and birds doing what they do; it is all grand and beautiful. Life is good, if we let it be good. When I am aware of the reason I feed the cats (the joy and frustration they often bring), or cook a meal, it is easy to be thankful for a life that makes these activities possible. Whenever I find myself (become aware of) feeling anxious or hurried, I allow myself to stop feel my gratitude, take a deep breath, and marvel at the wonder that is life. This brief pause also helps with attentiveness.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. I have found that small "reminders" from one source or another, can go a long way toward helping me live a more conscious, joyous, and fulfilled life. Peace and blessing to you and Brian.

Now that I’m early here, I want to thank you for your peaceful feeling and vibe. I am going through lots of anxiety and uncertainty these days. Today I woke up with anxiety and instead of focusing on my racing thoughts, I tried to focus to the sound of birds and cars and a neighbor’s bell from outside. These are the mundane sounds of my life but when I stop and listening to them instead of voices in my head, I truly find them full of story and richness. What is life if not puzzles of all of these mundane sounds, images and moments that we pass everyday. We think them as something ordinary but life change so fast that one day we lost them and our years of living to pursue something big that will not matter when we reach it. Not that pursuing big things are bad but it’s good to remind myself that big things seems big from far away and when I’ll reach to it, it is as the same as the sound of cars behind my window. Beautiful, ordinary and small, and sometimes ugly too. All that life can offer.

I think that our society (employers) has set this fast-paced frantic norm. It makes us feel that we are never fast enough, doing enough, good enough......When I became unable to work, my anxiety soared even higher because I was still in that frantic mindset, but without the job to go to or deadline to meet. My "job" , because of injuries, was self-care, and that was so foreign to me!

    • @valp.5095
      @valp.5095 3 месяца назад +1

Exactly. Many employers, most that I was working for in recent years also make impossible targets, competitions and naming and shaming the slowest team member to ‘encourage’ to work faster. This raises anxiety and stress to a whole new level.

I never knew there was a name for it before. I have hurry sickness. Everything I do is on a deadline even the things that don't need to be. Thank you for making me aware of this and for another great video.

I have been raised by a mother who has chronic, severe, hurry sickness. Not only does it kill the joy in the sufferer's life, but it also STEALS the joy from those they interact with. I am 43 & still severely & negatively impacted by my mother's behavior every time we are together. She announces as she WALKS INTO my house, "Well, I can't stay long". & within a few minutes she is physically itching to leave. It is a 1/2 hour drive to my house. Why bother coming? She will call on the phone & say, "I can't talk long - I won't hold you up". My mother has NOTHING to do. It is not as if a job has her hopping or kids waiting on her or deadlines to meet. She leaves her house @ 8 am & runs (literally runs - like jogging, running) all day, driving from place to place to jog in different areas. Or she leaves & shops; store to store. The few times a year that our whole family tries to go to a museum or picnic, etc...she almost literally runs through the event & will be looking at her watch & rushing everyone else along. You don't even get to see or enjoy the event that you drove 2 hours for. My husband blows up on her & then she gives everyone the silent treatment. every event, holiday dinner, outing is ruined by her herding us like cattle. & she is so, so, so unhappy. It makes me miserable even thinking about it. We need, as humans, to be very careful about how our actions, hang ups affect those we love the most. We should not be stealing other's joy, rather we should be contributing to it. I would love nothing more than to see my mom relax & just find true joy & beauty in life.

Thank you dear Ana. Now that I got older I see that being content is more achievable than being happy, which is not possible to be all the time. It's also in the "small" things that brings joy. And I'm grateful for my "boring" or quiet times, I enjoy them in my spare time. Have a great week ❤

I experience hurry sickness at work because of the demand and workload but in my personal time I live a slow life. I enjoy taking my time to create art, make my bed, care for my plants, making a latte, cleaning, etc. As you stated in the video, I embrace the small pleasures and focus on the process of doing and not the end result. It keeps me in a state of gratitude.

I agree with Ana, it's unique and precious skill. Unfortunately, I don't have such one. In my work, I also experience rush and stress and when I come home I can't simply "change mode", I can't slow down and calm down. I'm immersed in this frantic pace and coming home I still have this feeling of anxiety that I should do something all the time.

My mother demonstrated to me how contentment and pleasure in the little things of daily life can make a life rich. I’m glad that I took note of the pleasures of cuddling with a loved one, a hot shower, witnessing a sunrise, the greeting of a happy dog, a child laughing, the sound of rain… Those simple pleasures sustain me through the more difficult times. My father too in his dementia would repeatedly say “I’m the luckiest man” and I would ask “why are you the luckiest?” “ Because I married the prettiest and sweetest girl” he would reply. Appreciation is learned either from others demonstrating it or circumstance. If you have been deprived of something things become more precious. That deprivation could be health, a relationship, physical comforts or necessities.

I am retired from paid work, and it has taken me a few years to adjust to the change in my life. I found the mundane routines at home very boring, until I found ways to appreciate some of the little things, and not to rush through to get the daily tasks out of the way quickly.

Ana, I got two things to sort of ask you😜 1. I wonder if you´ve read anything by the philosopher Byung Chul Han🤔 (his most renowned works are The Burnout Society, Vita Contemplativa, Non Things - those titles speak for themselves). Some of the things you speak about on this channel are very much in tune with Han´s ideas. 2. Would you consider making a video where you speak about your literary favorites (all-time and recent)? I´d LOVE to hear about the books you find special.

I sort of miss your "book reports" when you were reading philosophy. I would love one of these again too. But also just a video on what you are reading lately. But I know you were focusing with intention on your own creativity this year, so not sure if you are reading a lot at the moment.

Since I am cronically ill, I have come more and more into Living in the moment, being here and enjoying the first signs of Spring, feeling joy about chirping birds, 🌞, doing some craft that I love and brings happiness and so on.
Life feels so much richer this way.
Yes I do wake up with much pain, feel anxiety now and then, but living in the moment and take in sounds from nature, being with my family, crafting etc give me me what I need.
I used to be the ”runner to get things done”, not reflecting, trying to be good enough, much stress, so on and so forth.
    ❤❤

We had the opportunity to go from the ordinary and to the extraordinary two weeks ago. We had some friends who we had not seen in several years come and visit us. (We don’t have that many visitors.). After enjoying a cup of coffee and a nice breakfast, we would walk downtown and enjoy the sights, go to a museum, or view a quilt exhibit. Each day got us out of the house to enjoy a walk and some fresh air. We even had an ice cream cone 🍦! It was fun being with friends and enjoying a lively conversation. Now we are back to our “ ordinary “ life with plans for more walks and outings!

I definitely have hurry sickness I inherited from my Dad who used to drive a bus. Hurry up, the bus is leaving he used to say to us all the time. It's taken me my whole life to try to unlearn it. I'm never late...just leave ample time to do things without having to multitask. I do find now I live a slow life when I am forced to multitask or travel somewhere new I find it anxiety provoking. I'm trying to reframe the travel part, as sometimes it's unavoidable.

As with anything, nothing is "foverer" or "for everyone". "Multitasking" can be a great way to not get stuck. When it's done because it follows one's brain patterns - think ADHD-like? - it's very relieving and productive for smb. Only when it's being abused - or forced onto ppl that just cannot handle it - then! it's toxic, just like any other type of toxicity. I love multitasking because it's smth at my core = and having ppl force me into 1 single channel of activity because of some idea - is draining. Of course, constant interruption (from outside) is NOT multitasking, either.

hurry sickness! i have never heard that term, but i just realized that i have been suffering from just that thing all my life! i have always felt internal pressure to accomplish things, to get something productive done everyday, usually many somethings. i would even think to myself, "oh my gosh, i have so much to do, how will i decide which thing to do first!!!" i caused myself so much stress, i would be paralyzed with indecision. gradually i realized that all those "things" needed doing, so it didn't matter what i did first. that helped; just do something, anything. as i have grown older, i have been more intentional about slowing down, and am now more forgiving of myself if i don't get something "productive" done everyday, and just enjoy life more. it's still a process though, and i didn't know that hurry sickness is related to anxiety, either
