I’m a 75 year old addicted to VW’s . I started with a 59 Westy in 1968 and have owned Beetles, Ghias, and Buses. The feeling of driving an old air cool is the best. The friendships can’t be replaced. I still drive a 71 Westy with 60000 original miles and 3 years ago give into a 82 Westy (diesel). Drove that Florida from northern Illinois for 2 years. Last year I gave in and did a Subaru swap and a Subaru 5speed. Still the great feel when driving and make much better time on those long trips

What I love about driving my car is the oddity of it all. The mismatched parts from various non-VWs, every little oddity makes it so fun to drive. It’s also unique. You never really see a bug with a tractor bumper (or Pontiac Wheels) and I love the uniqueness of that in itself.

For me Gary, since you asked, its the memories. I bought my 80 VW Westfalia 42 years ago(43 in October) my kids grew up camping in it from 6 months on, and both the boys had a time of ownership. There was a time that she sat unused, but the last 10 years I have rebuilt just about every system learned to cut out rust and weld in new metal, paint those new areas as well. Added things like solar, house batteries, chargers wheels and tires, upholstery you name it ive done it. I have had a carseat in it for my grandkids for over 4 years, and they love it as much as I do, and i pop the top and let them play in it! theres not a time when I drive ol betsy that I dont have a smile on my face, because it brings back all those memories. Thats what I love about my Westy....
So thank you for all you do with your channel, its awesome and i love watching you all tackle projects, take trips, and do shows! I love your modest approach to repairs, I just wish I had a garage like yours!

I love the friendship & camaraderie of the community. Took a friend to a VW show here in the Kansas City area sponsored by the MO-Kan VW club. It was set up on the main street area of a small town called Smithville. I love that with VW you can see everything from a bone stock amazingly restored 1956 beetle to a completely customized bus, a baja with Porsche seats and LED lighting. There was an LT40 outfitted as a rescue vehicle. I even saw a Syncros with GENERAL GRABBERS (shout out to Jerry, et al). My friend had a great time, met some great folks, and is now inspired to get to work bringing his 71 beetle back to life. That's what I love most about VW-the people.

I don't have just one answer for that.
What I love about owning my 2 aircooleds (my only 2 cars actually because I'm not into newer stuff) is that:
My Old VWs have introduced me to a lot of cool people (you VW Life guys are included).
My Old VWs have taken me to very cool places like Austin, TX.
My Old VWs have taught me not only mechanical skills, but that the simple things in life are the most enjoyable.
Old VWs make history and create memories and aventures for their owners, even 20 years after the last aircooled VW was produced.
Driving my old VWs has brought smiles and/or tears of nostalgia to many people that sees my cars at a traffic light, parking lot or any sort of casual encounter. Kids point at my car with a face of amazement, and their parents smile, too.
I love the random thumbs ups from strangers.
For some reason, old VWs have the magic of drawing people together. And at the moment when people meet because of an old VW, differences are put aside and everybody share a good time.
And my best and final reason is:
I love owning and daily driving my old VWs because there will ever be no other car like a classic VW.

My first experience with driving a VW was my Mom's 65 beetle in 1970, as I was 15 at the time. That car became mine after highschool but was totaled by a drunk driver in 1976. I got a 63 beetle after that in 1976. Still have it. It's the Knight's Foreign Auto Parts drag car. Got 71 bus in 1978. Sold it to my brother-in-law in the early 80's. He totaled it, argg. I've had a Euro 67 bug and sold it a few years ago. I currently have a 67 bug red/white two tone. Really like it. So, what do I enjoy about VW's? Kids love these things. When at the track with the 63 drag car, I get the parents to sit their kid in the drivers seat for a picture. They love it. And, the stories people tell you about having a vw back in the day. Just totally cool.

Then I got into bikes and rode for years. A couple years ago I purchased my roached bay. It has been an adventure. I've had a 66 beetle and 72 914 go through my hands. Not too many in my neighborhood but it gets lots of looks at cars and coffee. It's beginning to resemble a bus. At first I didn't really care for it. But I started being able to not be towed home. Then I had a reason to rebuild the engine. I built a little 1968cc. Then I resealed the transaxle and. Now I'm working through a center mount idf.
Figuring out how it all should together while working through the what ever someone was thinking before I got it. It's been a blast of a puzzle.

I don't have one, but would love to own one. When I was a kid I used to play in about 5 non running VW buses that my uncle had around his house. Some were split window buses. All got crushed as nobody was interested in restoring them back then. If I'm honest I think that many beetles and buses are over priced these days. I can't pay £5000 for a restored beetle when I can remember used beetles for sale at £500.

I've always enjoyed driving my VW...had it for 47 years. Always wanted to be involved in "VW community" to add to the fun. Showed up to one of your events and after a couple of hours decided that I must be invisible...no welcome, no interest in my different and unpopular sort of vw...a 914.
