Title could also say "making Ian MacKaye proud" (Minor Threat) - team work makes the dream work! Awesome
We need more guys and gals willing to help out the local vw community. I met a lot of great people that way. And that's what it's all about. Helping and growing the community👍🇩🇪
Thanks for sharing another great video. RIP John Denver a truly wonderful man and singer.
I have Jon Voight's convertible Beetle ;)
Oh man, as soon as I saw that this Beetle still had the metal teeth around the windshield frame I started laughing. I knew you guys were going to be frustrated! One of the first things I learned back in the 1980s was that those metal teeth had to be removed. Vw installed those teeth around 1974 as a safety feature to keep the windshield from popping out in an accident. My only claim to fame in the VW world is that I’ve never broken a windshield during install, but the closest I came to doing so was in a situation like yours. Welcome to the club. You’ve officially been initiated
Now you tell us 😫🤣🤣🤣😉
Your consensus is correct: Fits:
Front Windshield 1973-79 Super Beetle Convertibles.
Product Details:
The original metal gripper clips on the windshield frame must be removed prior to window seal installation!
When i was a young toolmaker learning my trade i was told if you don’t learn something every day you were not paying attention. Thank you for a job well done and sharing it with all of us.
John, truer words have never been spoken!
A great video. A VW Beetle with John Denver,s DNA in it . That's just awesome he was an amazing man.
So thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
John Denver, excellent music.
I’m with you Gary man, this holiday season I discovered John Denver’s song Christmas for Cowboys. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in a long time and I get choked up listening to it 🎶
Yes, John Denver just sang songs that meant something.
Thanks Mke ! Straight Ahead ✌😎
It's the stories that make old cars special.
YES! I love hearing the stories passed down on old Volkswagens. They truly are a part of a living history for so many folks.
Absolutely yes, those clips have to come out!
I know you guys love to help your local VW community. The car has a great story. I'm about to visit the all metric garage, and by the way, you need to mention the emergency repair kits you're offering. Good job guys.
Nothing like an older dude wearing a hard-core punk band t-shirt that drives V-DUB.
And now I'm singing Minor Threat. :)
well that's an interesting fact about Gary being a fan of John Denver. My dad also likes music from him.
I did the replacement for the windshield on my bus and boy did I take it out like 5 or 6 times because I struggled to make it seat in place properly. I ended up leaving the winshield rubber barely grabbing from the frame lip and when the sun was really hot, I used to pound the glass for a couple of days straight and it finally gave in and the glass is now properly secured.
On my defense, it was my first time installing a bus windshield, and my first time installing glass ever....
Back in the seventies I worked for VW in the body shop. That’s when they started using the “sharks teeth” window clips due to crash regulations. We used to pull them off with a pair of pliers before we put any windshields back in. They would tear your hands to shreds. Soon as I saw you guys trying to put that in I said to myself “you better pull those off or you will never get that in.” I’m glad you figured it out. Keep up the good work! Love your videos!
Gary, I've been a big John Denver fan since the 3'rd grade! And of course...a big VW fan even longer than that!
Yes indeed James!!!! He was an amazing singer whose songs were about good things, tough times, and life.
Well done, Gentlemen!👍
Best wishes from Germany !🇩🇪
There's all shades of good in this video. Nicely done guys.
Is Matt Jackson OK? Where the hell has Matt been?!? VW Life Forever!
Those damn clips! Thanks for sharing.
I have a Super myself. Early 1971 (the wiper switch is on the dash).
Yeah! Always yank those grip clips off and toss ‘em!!!
Yeppers, and now WE know to do that! That's the best thing about working on these, you are always learning something new!
@@RRmeanmachine Must be a 73 and later improvement, designed for safety and to retain the windshield in case of accident.
Is Mr. Matt Jackson still in the crew?? I didn't see him for a while!!
Parv
I know! Where the hell is Mr Jackson?
Great you helped out. Nice to see you lace in that windshield and not break it. Better than my body shop did my windshield cracked on removal. And no rust on that frame. Great job
Maybe this Super Beetle took home Denver, through some country roads.. you never know ! haha !!
To the place I belong!!
We used to live about half a mile from Top Notch. We have taken all the kids and some of the grandkids there!
sometimes taking that old rubber out is like chipping concrete!
exactly
Yes! Minor Threat
How did Mr. Alexander teach at Hopewell? He was supposed to be teaching at Ridgeview!
Well, who knows! 😂😂😂

Many many Moons ago...
Good Times...
woohoo! new VW Life video!
Thanks for helping him, love the story and the IECO rims.
Good job!
Gary still has PTSD from the windshield install on Ol Spot
Ain't that the truth!
nice job.
Shoot some black windshield sealant and roll..
Nice job!
Where’s the razor blades, windex and weedwhacker string?
No razor blades here.. needed a hammer and chisel to get that stuff out
Yea I finally saw the fastback
Minor Threat!
Opens with Tommie cleaning his windshield. See him driving from inside the car and all I can say is "You missed a bit"
I was thinking the same thing when we were driving off in D-White, uhh Hello Tommie, you didn't clean D-White's windshield!
Minor Threat!!!❤
Did you put the seal in backwards? The exterior seems to have a wider ‘grip area’ than the interior.
Seal is always going to be wider on the outside than the inside.
TAKE THE CLIPS OUT!
And now we know the rest of the story!
@@RRmeanmachine 🤣 I learned the first time too.
I would far rather had an explanation about how the windshield disassembly and reassembly is done rather than the music. I finally turned the sound off to watch the video. I turned on the sound when folks started talking hoping to hear tips.
bad day for audio. I had to dump a bunch of talking because of wind/road and poor audio .. Sorry about that.. thanks for hanging out with us today 😎
