Dropping $10k into this Hellcat isn’t really that bad cause you could have bought more expensive $40-$50k version and still have the Hemi tick . At least this way you’re getting a rebuilt motor that will last a while. Almost every hellcat you buy is going to be beaten up. People don’t understand that although these are built for racing they even professional drag racing teams have to rebuild their engines from time to time and maintenance on race teams is constant.
That's a good way to frame this, especially on a car that is either going to be a well-kept example with a huge price premium, or abused with issues. Ngl, compared to labor rates on the west coast, $10k for all of that doesn't really sound like a lot (I'm assuming parts are included in that 10k). I'd do the clutch tho, since it's already out, might as well have a mechanically-brand new, stupid-fast muscle car.

Beautiful house Tyler!! I've been collecting old pictures of my mother's childhood home and homestead from the 1940's in Campbell Missouri from relatives and got a copy of the original blueprints of the remodel adding a bathroom on the main floor from the 1930's. My grandparents raised 9 children in that house from the late 30's till the late 70's when my grandfather passed and the house was too big for my grandmother to keep up. My grandfather's family had a old groceries and sundries outpost in Campbell Mo. from the late 1870's until the 1970's when my grandfather passed. Got lots of pictures of the store and maybe one day I can open a store like it and operate it in my retirement..

colour me SHOCKED that hoovie went ahead with driveway modifications without first obtaining a permit. As for not being able to use the driveway due to that gap, BS, put in 3 wheel barrows full of gravel then sweep it out the night before the asphalt guy shows up.
The gap is technically public land. Depending on jurisdiction, a corridor of about 1 to 3 feet off the road or sidewalk is part of either the city public right of way, or utility easement, so the municipality can dictate the surface material and prohibit temporary structures if there is another access point to the property. He moved the main entrance of the property, and needed to get approval for the new culvert because they're illegal to build without such permit. Reenforced concrete is actually the 'best' building material you can get, so he surely was easily approved. The problem is that citizens complained about potential road safety issues after it was built. Even if the county had built it themselves (using the owner's money), the owner would still have had to pay to make those changes as long as they were based upon already existing laws. The culvert would've had to be covered in earth on the sides anyway, what they did is forced it (and the drain pipe) to be extended with a lot of earth into some kind of mound. Someone in the area is definitely not happy Hoovie moved in.
Tyler, you have 10+ vehicles that could EASILY go over that step in the driveway. The suburban, the limo van, etc etc. ALL of which need to be driven. Tell your concrete/contractor to get off his ass and get the problem fixed for the driveway NOW! You should not have to traverse the berm in4WD stuff to get in and out of your home because of his horseshit. As for the Hellcat engine, get it built into a stroker. Get a bigger camshaft for it as well. Probably the same cost as a stock cam or barely more. And go ahead and send in the clutch to McLeod. Let themgive it a once over and a cleaning before putting it back in. You will NOT regret it. Those cars are a LOT of fun when they are done right and worth WAY more than a "good" example. Especially with a freshly rebuilt engine that has been rebuilt into a performance powerhouse that could easily surpass 1000 HP.
It's still worth fixing the Hellcat, when I saw it was a manual I thought it was a conversion, like your Ferrari, I thought Dodge only made automatic Hellcats. Turns out they did make Manual Hellcats, but they're extremely rare, this year(2024) they only made 33 manual Hellcats, and the numbers are probably the same for your year Hellcat. You found the holy grail of Hellcats, a manual, it's definitely worth fixing up as it'll be worth a fortune in the future, especially if it stays an all numbers matching. Definitely worth restoring.

"Bad attention from the county" is a funny way of saying the driveway was not built to code & was deemed a hazard. The justification also makes total sense, though is not something I would have thought of (though I don't work in the construction industry). I wonder if a permit is required for this kind of work and if one was pulled (no idea what the local/state laws for this would be). Fingers crossed everything else Hoovie has done has been done correctly to code with proper permits and this goof didn't just throw up a bunch of red flags for the county to start poking at the rest of his home reno.

he doesn't even need to do that. His suburban or the van would make it across without any issue at all. Hell, my 2018 F-150 would make it across just fine. Maybe he will buy that!!
Right thing to do for a hellcat. Now you're breakeven keep it or just cash out 32K. They always should be brought up to spec if they are rare and worth saving.
My personal experience with this matter: I have a 2011 Durango R/T with the 5.7 hemi which I bought "previously owned" in 2014 with 49,000 miles on it. I soon found that it went through about a quart of oil every 1000 miles, and upon doing research found that this was considered "normal". I really liked the car, so I decided to just live with it while making the switch to synthetic oil (and factory filter) on my next oil change. I was pleasantly surprised when the oil consumption pretty much ceased! I continued this practice every 5,000 to 7,000 miles until the car passed 100,000 miles and I noticed the dreaded "lifter tick". My son (who is really into performance cars) told me about the problems with Chrysler's cylinder deactivation (MDS, or Multi-Displacement System) and that the only fix was to replace the cam and lifters (also decking the heads and removing the MDS). He knew of a reputable local shop that was well-versed in this repair. The mechanic showed us the old cam, and one lobe was about wiped out. It wound up costing me a bit over $3,000 (it helps to have friends in the business). The camshaft and lifters were new 6.4L hemi parts. That was about 12,000 miles ago, and the car runs beautifully now. The fuel mileage actually improved (around 18 city/25 hwy mpg), and it seems quicker than ever.
Not necessarily. I had a used 2009 Challenger R/T back in 2016 when I was 19 and it ran like a top. No HEMI tick, serviced with Royal Purple synthetic oil changes every 5000 miles and no accidents. When it was in my possession, I took very good care of it despite having the ability to drive it like hell. But I didn't, I knew better than that. It was my daily driver and it was comfortable, sounded good and looked the part. Eventually, it was sold at the dealer that we purchased it from and still lives on to this day by an older couple that drive it from Colorado to Florida and back.
@@CJDiecast Unfortunately that's the outlier, every single car I've ever bout from a young person has been beat to heII or riddled with problems. Whenever I have that itch to buy something, I actively avoid buying cars from young people, for whatever reason, a lot of us just don't maintain things.
This is a result of two very simple and basic principles: 1. The previous owner beat the living snot out of this motor and probably bounced it off redline many, many times - Wizard may want to check the code history 2. The previous owner did NOT do oil changes in accordance to how hard he drove it. When they recommend you follow the "oil life monitor", that's for driving normal, like a normal person. And even then it's too long. You really should never go more than 5,000 miles on an oil change. This guy needed to change the oil every 3,000 - or maybe at the end of the day sometimes!!!
Even then you don't follow the computer since the computer tends to be very liberal with their oil change intervals... it's not in their best interest for the motor to stay intact much past the warranty expiration. Never go more than 5k (with full synthetic) even if the book says 10k. And yea this guy probably needed to go 3k and even then - just too much abuse.

This is the 70 Chevelle LS6 of our generation. It is well worth saving. Any European car will cost 15k to get an engine. American engine with 707 hp for 10k!?! Yes please!!!
@@tomm1109 thats the cost of the labour+machining work , they only changing some lifters and bearings , the full engine is more expensive

@@mromatic17 Agreed. If it still bites, the faces aren't chewed up (much), and the pedal feel is good, why replace it? Beautiful house Tyler!! I've been collecting old pictures of my mother's childhood home and homestead from the 1940's in Campbell Missouri from relatives and got a copy of the original blueprints of the remodel adding a bathroom on the main floor from the 1930's. It is my desire to rebuild the house as it was in 1955 when my parents graduated from high school.

Maybe the previous owner mudded it.
just lay some 2x8s or whatever in that gap until the asphalt guy can fill it in if you end up needing to move cars in.

Put a 4 foot mud rock apron along it about a foot deep. That way it's solid when someone inevitably drags their trailer off the side of the concrete.

Hoovies farm, farmhouse reno and Hoovie's Garage 3.0 are all looking great! Enjoy, them, Tyler and April
colour me SHOCKED that hoovie went ahead with driveway modifications without first obtaining a permit.

Cars that young people buy are famous for having the snot beat out of them .
There arent many young guys that can afford a new Hellcat, tho.
"Young"
Other euphemisms:
"aspiring astronaut"
"scholar"
@@CJDiecast Unfortunately that's the outlier, every single car I've ever bout from a young person has been beat to heII or riddled with problems. I'm in college and live in a pretty big college town so naturally a lot of the sub $20,000 cars for sale are/were owned by a college students. Whenever I have that itch to buy something, I actively avoid buying cars from young people, for whatever reason, a lot of us just don't maintain things.
@sm_flys yeah young people usually don't have much money and like to have fun want a car taken care of look for the 75 year old.
This is a result of two very simple and basic principles:
1. The previous owner beat the living snot out of this motor and probably bounced it off redline many, many times - Wizard may want to check the code history
