Gene Lake killin! Steve Coleman's always got the best drummers with him
Everyone talks about Steves drummers, but fail at really listening to him. The guy is a genius!
He is!!!!
I must be getting old.
I'd forgot how wonderful steve and his groups sound.
Ornette Coleman
This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen/ heard
Steve , Gene and Andy all do their part but for me it's Terry on the bass who locks the whole groove down . Great stuff .
Coleman uno dei più grandi contralti di sempre
Love the way Coleman Swings and Funks at the same time over this Groove !
And the Drummer !
I always wanted to get into jazz and blues. Great video from start to finish. Let's stay connected thanks for the support and grow together newbie here 😊

Tau of mad Phat best SC album imo
i can't argue with roger.tao of mad phat kicks...
hello. I'm wondering about the composition. Is is just a bassline and the band improvises? or is there some chord changes on top that they follow?
I think it's all improvised
this is the m-base concept of making music. steve could explain it better. but in my limited and vague understanding of it; the idea is; there are a few 'parts' to the 'song' they've practiced/ agreed upon, but they 'guide' each other through 'sonic language' ... Sometimes there are signals to go to a next part, or, more broadly; basicly talking with eachother with their instruments, having a conversation and improvising, extending the arrays, that is why no 2 performances of a 'song' will render the same. Also in this way of spontaneous improvisation they are not really able to make mistakes, they do what they feel like and the rest of the band reacts in the moment.
i'm not a musician but it sounds pretty structured to me, with unison parts and sections following other sections. the more you listen you can hear how structured it is. fantastic, instense music!
trop complique pour toi laisse tomber
@@Rogermc No, it’s all structured and tonal. AND there are spontaneous elements also. It’s tonal, just not always major-minor tonality, or not always European modal tonality. There are always constellations of rhythms, melodies and pitches. And we can definitely make mistakes. We are not just doin anything. I would say that the overriding principle is “balance”.
