  • Steve Coleman & Five Elements
    Steve Coleman, Alto Saxophone
    Jonathan Finlayson, Trumpet
    Anthony Tidd, Bass
    Sean Rickman, Drums
Steve Coleman's musical approach is unique. For this immense American saxophonist, playing cannot be dissociated from life and naturally belongs to a human activity anchored in reality. The vibration and energy released by music are parts of a whole that extends from the micro to the macroscopic. This almost mystical vision of jazz and particularly its live aspect has made Steve Coleman's reputation and success. To share it and communicate it to the public, he surrounded himself with a modular training called Five Elements, a true platform for artistic expression. Because one of the innumerable qualities of the gentleman is undeniably his infallible talent for unearthing new talents, and offering them the conditions necessary for the full exploitation of their creative potential.

How is it possible that this video only has only 14 likes, while Snarky Puppy which is a boring commercial band has thousands of likes? This is the music of a genius !

Snarky puppy grooves but doesn’t swing. This is why mainly it has that visibility. Steve Coleman is way ahead in terms of everything, there is no possible comparison.

I feel like the answer to this question is pretty obvious... The esoteric will always be appreciated by the few, and if it weren't, it would lose what makes it special. It is also important to note that Coleman does not consider himself a genius.

@@djozouavenul4930 You can't say Steve Coleman is "way ahead in terms of everything", and then say there is no possible comparison, that in itself is a total contradiction. I personally do not enjoy the music of Snarky Puppy, to me it is boring. But a lot of people love it and obtain great joy from it, as I would imagine you and I do from the music of Steve Coleman. This type of competitive thinking has no place in music.
