Wow! I vividly remember this McDonald's commercial when I was in second grade elementary school! Just like it was yesterday!!! 33 years ago! 😀 great memories! I was 8 when this commercial first aired, now 41!💯
I worked at McDonald's during this time. We'd make these items and then toss the styrofoam coffin in a warming bin for 20 minutes, ensuring the lettuce and tomato were nice and warm.
I worked at McDonald’s in 97 and that’s the year they got rid of the holding bins. Before that , we would make like 20 cheeseburgers and put them in the “bin” until they were sold. If they stayed in there too long they were discarded as waste. McDonald’s didn’t cook everything to order like they do now. They only cooked special requests or items to order.
Polystyrene waste is effortlessly broken down by a naturally occurring compound called acetone and has been disposed of as such for over a decade and a half. Calm your tits.
I truly miss the 80's. The 90's were great too, but my heart belongs to the 80's. I almost feel like I could reach through the haze of time and grasp whatever fabric these memories are made of.
@63BlueberryPie63 How so, when her character was also pregnant?. Phylicia Rashad was pregnant during the Huxtables, and she hid her stomach behind desks and grocery bags.
I prepared alot of McDLT's! When it premiered, they sent us blank containers and I applied sticker to both halves:"hot side" and "cool side", and a photosticker, of the burger. I enjoyed more, than a few of them, as well! LOL.
“A lot” is two words. “McDLTs” doesn’t get an apostrophe because it’s plural, not possessive. “Sticker” should be “stickers”. You’re missing a space after the second sentence. “Hot” should be capitalized at the beginning of the next sentence. “Photosticker” is not a word, break it into two. No comma is required in your last sentence. Please consider carefully terminating your comment with a self-congratulatory LOL. Thank you for your consideration.
I don't get why they can't just find an alternative to package the thing. Taking away a beloved burger all because of some container controversy? Outrageous.
I also often think of biting into a McDLT through the many years but sadly they discontinued them. If they and some customers felt it was a bother to put the 2 halves together which I loved doing, or that the lettuce or tomato may fall out of place by doing so, then why THE DARN didn't they change the McDLT back to the same way they did in the beginning with the 2 halves already joined together? Burger King does it why not McD? There is nothing wrong to have the tomato and lettuce be warmed up in a burger by serving the 2 halves already joined. OR if they want the 2 halves separate again since they sold maybe billions or is it many many millions? Then you mean to tell me they still can't come up with new packaging that will hold and keep the 2 halves separate other than styrofoam that was banned?
It boggles my mind that this was considered innovation. How about this... Big Mac 2.0, a dry Big Mac with the sauce on the side so when you get home you add it yourself 🤯
It was a great idea. I think they should bring it back. That plus their recent switch to fresh quarter pound patties would make for quite a respectable hamburger. Oh, but they shouldn't be keeping tomatoes in the fridge. Tomatoes lose their flavor after they've been cold for a few hours, so they should always be kept above 50° or so. Once they get cold you can't get the flavor back, and with the kind of tomatoes that use in chain restaurants you want to keep all of the flavor you possibly can.
I think when the environazis went after McDonalds in the 90s for their Styrofoam waste, they decided to stop using it and go to using paper or cardboard boxes to put all their sandwiches in, so that move killed off the McDLT. Which is too bad, because as gimmicky as it seems, it did work pretty well and those burgers tasted a lot fresher than their other lineup.
I just searched this because I saw a "BLT" on a menu and that reminded me of the McDLT. I think they separated the burger patty from the rest of the sandwich so that only the burger patty goes under the heat lamps while the rest of the stuff stays out of the heat and stays cold. I seem to remember a commercial where someone took the top off the box and folded the two halves to put the sandwich together easily.
There's absolutely no reason why outlawing styrofoam should have killed this product. They could have just handed you two separate cardboard containers. If I had to guess, I'd say McDonalds probably found that the large containers and fresh tomato slices weren't practical for their assembly-line approach.
It keeps the tomatoes from soaking the lettuce. And for many people the burger tastes more fresh if the cheese on the burger is fresh instead of clotted into the meat. I really liked these sandwiches, but I like the Burger King Whopper better. The last version of this sandwich was the Big N' Tasty.
I remember the McDLT and those double styrofoam containers. I've never been a big fan of McDonald's food but I remember trying the McDLT and quickly remembered why I never liked their food products except for their fries. Their fries were the only thing that was ever worth a damn but I don't even eat that anymore.
Tbh, it wasn't a bad idea, think a lot of fast food places could have done something like this, and then your burger would taste more like home made lol.
The idea was good but they should have melted the cheese on top of the burger pattie they should actually bring it back the QP & the big mac are old boring burgers that people are sick of
The O.G. Aunt Viv!!!
Holla
Before she went light-skinned😄
That's her?
She always seemed like a black Karen.
I hated the dish rag 2nd Aunt Viv. Was the original too uppity?
The McDLT - one more reason I miss the 80s.

And now you're 42 Tim. Hey! I'll see you in one year.
Would you say you "Aunt Viv"-idly remember this? Thats Janet Hubert, the OG Aunt Viv from fresh prince of bel air.
the class of 1998 that knew ow to party!!!!!
I never knew that the two compartments of the McDLT packaging were called the "McOven side" and the "McFridge" side.
I didn’t either
The way she takes a bite out of that burger 🍔 makes me want that to try the McDLT so bad 😋😔
It looks so delicious 🤤
From what I remember it was pretty good, the Deluxe quarter Pounder they have now is below average.
Too bad discontinued
McDonald's shouldn't have discontinued the McDLT.
It was my all-time favorite Mcd burger🥲😪🤨
I worked at McDonald's during this time. We'd make these items and then toss the styrofoam coffin in a warming bin for 20 minutes, ensuring the lettuce and tomato were nice and warm.
Um why

Fun fact. Mc DLT containers still exist today and will for thousands of years in our landfills

And some of that burger is still in my colon!!!

Is it because someone keeps pushing your poop in?
Not mine! They were delicious!
Along with every other fast food container
Uncle Phil: “Vivian, is that my McDLT????”
hahahahahahahahahaahha yessss
I like her voice.
That's aunt viv
That's a quality commercial. Straight to the point.

She probably spat that burger out after the director said cut, as we never see her swallow it.
Isn't this the original Fresh Prince mom?

You're the not only former worker to say it was a good 🍔. So the gimmick of separating the cool and the hot worked?

I’m surprised she wasn’t replaced a few seconds before the end of the commercial.
I used to love the McDLT, but didn't remember that the cheese was on the cool side. That seems kind of dumb.

I wonder why they put the cheese on the cold side. You'd think people would want the cheese melted on the burger
she’s beautiful

I wish they would have had a big compartment for every ingredient.

They put the cheese on the cool side. Excuse me, but it should be melting on top of the burger. QED.

There is one with Jason Alexander from Seinfeld.

McDLT = McDeLeTed
But why is the cheese on the left?

@MikeJames6 I don't think so but whatever you gotta tell yourself, kiddo... lol
fries were good bc they were fried in beef tallow, which stopped in the early 90s. McDlt was a great burger. next best thing is the daily double.
