This is her 99 th birth anniversary year, and we in India are fortunate to have had her with us.
A spectacular coast to cast tour, with performances across all major locations of the USA, in 1966. At Washington, post the concert, a leading daily carried a cover story with the headline, "MS Subbulakshmi storms Washington"... We are privileged to have with us, a flower vase gifted to her at the United Nations, post her historic concert... the vase personally handed over to us, her grandchildren!

+sai karthik Before she could proceed to the UN Concert in 1956,she was blessed by the sage of kanchi Chandrashekhara Saraswathi(MAHAPERIYAVA) that she would be victorious after the concert.But prior to the concert her throat was completely blocked and couldn't utter a single word.With the blocked throat she sat on the concert dais trembling.Remembering the sage and praying she uttered the word OM and the nightingale started to enthrall the audience. :)
