What happens if you pay a scammer?

- Unusually, these pop-up scammers allowed me to pay by cheque (check in US). Big mistake! When they made their 'fixation' on my PC, they not only made the security worse but they revealed personal details of some of their other victims.

I love/hate how insistent scammers get when you call them out on stuff. Lost it at "you're lying you are simply lying, you are dialling a random number". So funny, yet so sad
I noticed this a lot with what I would probably call sociopathic people. You know fully well that they are lying or trying to scam you, but they just keep trying harder when confronted, and get aggressive and try to make you out to be the problem. I had a few interactions like that and it is quite worrying that there's people like that living freely in our society.

I've no doubt that we'll see either a feature length doc or limited series about scambaiters in the not-too-distant future. Whether it's something Netflix will buy or produce, I don't know. It's irrelevant really.
But, based on their RUclips popularity, there's definitely enough interest in scambaiters and their excellent work to suggest that a documentary would do well. Especially if there was an effort to take their work to the next level ie an unprecedented effort to energize the relevant law enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems to prosecute the scammers.

Fun fact : Yesterday I was uninstalling Windows from my computer to replace it with a Linux distro. During the Windows wiping process a "Microsoft Support Employee" named Tom Wilson called me that my Windows is in a critical state. Damn, he wasn't wrong for once

Lol. I just did the same. Windows is such garbage. You don't own the software you've paid for, because you cannot change Group Policy as a Windows 10 Home user. I'm sure it's worse on Windows 11.
Using Linux I've been able to do every single thing I could do on Windows.
Hopefully more people will transition to Linux. I've never heard of Linux scammers. Maybe they exist
On the other hand, scams can be all about timing. Once, I was having trouble with Windows (a random error I'd never seen before, something to do with my Microsoft licence), and the day I was trying to fix it, I got a call from an Indian scammer, pretending to be from Microsoft, asking me about my Windows licence problem.
I believed it, but, I had a friend over when she called, and she was so pushy that I hung up.

Now that's just bad business, gotta make them profits.
Seems legit and totally worth the $439 and 97 cents to me... I mean, who wouldn't pay that much for someone to install CCleaner and McAfee on their PC?
Jim Browning why not lifetime support, it only costs about 30% more for at least another 60 years or so with inferior AV solutions? XD
Some of those there got scammed could have bought a new computer for that money :p
Do they accept souls as payment?
Man, I just realised I have some pretty valuable skills
Could of called out a propper computer techincian have them 'clear' it of viruses and install AV and even do some wizzards stuff and make the computer run better then ever for half that cost.
I feel so damp right now 😫 in 2009 I was scammed by the same scheme and paid around $300 for ‘computer services’. Glad you spend the word around the world!
@Exo Carlos I know 😔, but oh, well 🤷🏻♀️ just upsetting me the most that I worked so hard by cleaning the houses because I lost my job during 2008 economy crush and I didn’t know about these YT videos to be aware!!
I read the thumbnail as “What happens if you spay a scammer?”
Me too. I would have enjoyed that.

So I got a call from this dude named “Brian”, he said I had “problems” with my computer. Couldn’t have called at a more convenient time after my computer just broke
That happened to me 3 years ago. My Windows computer had gone under in a flood so I didn't have it anymore. I had an old laptop that was running Linux and when I told him this, he tried to say he was Mac tech support too. I kept telling him I had Linux but he seemed to think Linux was Mac. I got bored and hung up on him.
scrubthispie yup damn is right
RedStickHam lol these guys are noobs
How did it break
Ryan Rice so I had it in my book bag and somehow I tripped with a crack in the ground and with my own stupidity, forgetting that my backpack was slightly unzipped, the laptop fell forward. The bottom has a lot of little dents and scratches. I tried turning it on, plugging it in for a while, no luck.
“We have not taken any payment from you, you are lying”
I was REALLLLY hoping Jim would have said something like,
“Actually you’re right, it was a fake cheque I gave you and you idiots fell for it.”
Who knows, maybe the fake check really worked at the bank 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

They really should have
Your patience and self control are phenomenal, Jim. When people continually lie it's annoying, frustrating and soul destroying to be on the receiving end of.
Thank you for everything you do, Jim. You are a true hero.
Those scammers need some jail time

Could he make your wallet fat?
Much fatter?
In today’s video, we’ll find out the answer...
I lived in Gurgaon for 6 months a few years ago (I'm british but the company I worked for back then was indian so they had me work at their HQ for a few months) and the amount of ads for these kinds of jobs was insane on the local facebook boards.
I did a bit of research posing as a work colleague by altering his name (With permission) and essentially the "call centre" is a company who has paid for leads from the company who own the scam error website, The employees are paid commission based on how many services they can sell and how much they can sell them for. There is no fixed price list, just how much they think they can scam from you.
I reported 2 companies running these centers to the police (Surprisingly the police in Gurgaon are very co-operative considering people like Microsoft and IBM have huge development campuses there and want to keep them happy) and one quite famously got shut down. If i can find the news story i'll try and share it :)
I'm quite interested in this story. If you manage to find an article about it, can you send it to me?
that just screams mlm to me for some reason.
Good work sir.
Well the police themselves make dirt.
It would be beyond easy to bribe them and I guarantee it happens.
To tell me otherwise is to say a cop that's not being paid by Microsoft directly would not take a bribe from a call center and I don't believe that would ever be the case.
That's not to say there aren't those protecting the interests of big tech but I'd bet it's heavily in the corrupt area.
Love these videos, thank you for doing this. Nice breakbeat at the end bruv!
we all need to call the numbers he puts at the end and just keep saying scammers.
