  • A controversial rehabilitation centre in Sydney has been criticised for leaving some women feeling traumatised after undertaking rehab programs while on bail.
The Healing House in Sydney aims to rehabilitate women using fringe religious practices, and former residents have told the ABC they were exposed to bizarre pseudo-religious teachings and a leader who speaks in tongues.

Outsourcing essential services without doing due diligence, where is the oversight on these organisations.

A leech on the vulnerable. How the State (NSW) can ignore, or take action, on this issue is disgraceful.

When a drug addict wants help for their addiction its discussing that people and places like this take advantage of the situation. Recovering from addiction is a very serious thing and throwing a bunch of addicts in a house by themselves is not going to help anyone and trying to make them believe in religion when they are at one of the lowest points in their lives is horrible. Addicts need a bunch of different people helping in their recovery, people with proper diploma's and degree's that take years to complete and positive people who will teach them how to live a normal life again. I hope the person running these places goes to jail for the harm she has caused the vulnerable people who have wanted to get their lifes back on track, I guarantee most of them will never trust small private run rehabilitation places again at the least.

Well done, ABC. As a counselling student, I applaud your efforts in bringing attention to this sham of a rehab centre. Such a place not only does my chosen profession a complete disservice but, more importantly, it is doing actual harm to the physical and mental health of these women. Keep up the good work!

Dear Healing House. How dare you people do this to my partner. You made Belinda Moffatt do so many things she didn’t want to do that was unethical and outrageously traumatising for her.
Yesterday when Belinda called me from Gaol crying her eyes out in desperation I felt so helpless. Now Belinda sits in Gaol after Healing House destroyed her chance for rehabilitation and her relationship with God.
How could a rehab put her in this position.

I hope she's coping okay. Can't all the women sue as a class action? It wasn't fit for human habitation let alone the lack of counseling and support. Disgraceful.

yeah spend time in rehab, but the bills keep piling up, rent needs to be paid, kids need to be fed, then you realize there is no such thing as help, its a rort, and some people get rich out of it

Just exchanging one addiction for another. That would be so messed up to be forced to be baptised.
Jesus is not the only path to recovery, and those who peddal god as some kind of snake oil, are worse than drug dealers.

This makes me so angry, this is not Christianity at all, what these so call Christian rehabs are doing is anything but how and what God is about it makes me sick really the truth is the people make big money off opening up these rehab centers, 3 years ago myself and my family moved into a rented flat on the premises of a women's rehab in cape town called Teen Challenge, what I witnessed there was just disgusting they too, had no qualified counselors. I am a Christian Counsellor and wanted to help, but the women who was what they called the team leader was not having it, i did not understand it at first but then i realized why, she did not want me to see the truth about what's going on here.A big ministry donated money to them, but the girls where still coming over to me to ask for food, the stuff donated there staff took home, even a full Christmas meal I gave them the team leader took home to her own family. When i started asking questions the Pastor and his wife wanted myself and family to move out, even harasser us etc. I was so happy to move from there. they too had no hot water, they cooked up what we call dog bones to give to dogs as food and gave it to the girls. I believe there should be rules for rehabs to be opened, rules like having qualified people working there for 1 and there must be food. there is much more to this story but if i where to write it all here it would be a book.

Lucky you most people don't even get the chance to go to rehab to actually better them self willingly most can't afford it and you were forced to go rehab so basically the only way you can really get your life together is by getting in trouble with the law? Yeah unfortunately some people are sent to corrupt nasty places but it's not like you're going willingly you're being forced to go there it's rather that or jail they don't need to be nice 👍

it wasn't a rehab dipsh!t, it was a cult, just because you've been granted bail to one of these places doesn't give anyone rights to abuse them... That's like saying beggars can't be choosers so should be thankful for rotten mouldy food and drink when offered to them or should be ok with a house made of shit just because they're homeless. a$$h0l3
