I've 3D modeled in several different programs.. these tutorials have been a perfect jumpstart to get me accustomed with Hammer. Thank you! I'm trying my hand at a re-imagined Ancient map, but I think I'm accidentally making a Wingman/Retake map lmao I hope you guys continue this playlist with a quick lighting basics overview!
been making maps for the past few months and each video you upload I learn something new to better my workflow. thanks for all these tutorials! would love to see a video on textures🙏
Thank you for the tutorials on all these tools! Cant wait for the next one. Any idea on how to launch a custom exec whenever you start the map? I cant stand the warmup timer.
I love these videos and I've learned a lot from them. Please keep making these. I have a question about cs2 mapping I've had hard time finding answer online , it's not related to this video specifically but about making cs2 maps in new hammer. I have few custom textures and when I build the map and launch it in cs2, the textures are missing. How do I get the textures to get bundled in the map? In csgo it just.. happened as far as I remember.
Hi! Could you help me a little bit? I have experience with source 1 but source 2 seems like totally different thing... I want to make a "fun" map. I want to make a pipe, that is rotating and player can go trough. I made a pipe, i can go trough, but when I tie to entity that pipe and make it func_rotating, I can no longer go trough that hole. I found a button that shows collisions. So apparently when I tie it to entity and make it a rotating object, it create some kind of collision box and I have no Idea now how to achieve this. Could you briefly explain how can I achieve this or even better make a shot tutorial? Pleeeeeeeeease........
These guides are an absolute treat, it pains me to see so many functions I had no idea existed that could have saved me hours worth of pain. Does anyone know of any other good places to find information on the source 2 hammer editor? So much source 1 information seems to be muddying the waters anytime I start to search for anything particularly in depth.
There’s other tutorials but to be fair most of them show terrible workflows or bad habits. I vet through mine thoroughly for the most accurate information
I am confused on which models you should build in hammer and which you would import from other tools like blender. My thought about the mapping workflow always has been to first build the map very simplified in hammer and after its finished you import models from outside tools like blender. But source 2 hammer editor can build crazy detailed and complicated things. So why are most of source 2 maps still 90% build from models imported from other tools?
If you can build it in hammer there’s no need to do any exporting to outside programs. A common workflow process that valve used a lot was to make it in hammer and export to blender for any final details or touches
Nice video! For a future video, could you go through how to setup a playable level so you can playtest it with other players (locally or on a small server), if this is possible at all? After all, why make a level if no one can play and give feedback? :)
add the .vpk to your game/csgo/maps directory, as well as the server's game/csgo/maps directory. anyone else wanting to playtest will need to add it to theirs also. both the server and all clients need to be running with -insecure launch option, then just connect to the server
Really appreciate the tutorials. Working on my first custom map now!
Glad I could help!

Thanks for your kind words! Right now if you want to share your map without workshop access you can use Xen map packer. Join our discord for more info

Hi, is there a way to open existing valve made cs2 maps in the tools like in HLA? Would be good to see how valve did things, model names, entities etc

I think everyone is still figuring out whats best but from my experience, building in hammer is 10x easier for me. just personal preference tbh

How do you limit your fps in the editor? I'm pushing 800+ for no reason and I want to stop doing that lol
