Alex is INDEED the best funny man in Classic and Progressive Rock EVER. Geddy's smile and chuckles just make this a better experience altogether. Bless this band, Neil especially, RIP always. They are/were/always shall be the CURE for what ails you when the world seems to want to crush your very soul. =)
They took utmost care of the music and made sure that they still enjoyed being together and playing together. Wow, they were amazing on so many levels. Just hope that they are aware of the immense love being felt and expressed, particularly in light of Neil's death. Thank you, Rush!
It's quite an awe-inspiring contrast to hear them go from the goofy rant with improvised jazz to their tightly-timed perfection of La Villa Strangiato. Take them literally, not seriously, as was the reverse said of our recent Bizarro American president. When I heard they'd decided they were done "touring" I thought, "Well, that doesn't mean they won't do ANY public shows, just not a big world-wide tour, and it certainly doesn't mean they won't make any more studio albums. Hell, the Beatles' best stuff came AFTER they gave up touring." Then Neil had to go and die. There goes that theory. I really wonder, however, if there isn't at least one more album left in them. Maybe they had some songs the three of them worked on before Neil died and they could do a tribute show, or several, and only those who prove they are fully vaccinated get in. Somewhere in this great big world there must be a drumming wunderkind who can fill Neil's bass-thumping shoes for a good cause. Or maybe get a range of contemporary great drummers, ala the Freddy Mercury tribute, to honor Neil.
Reminds of Spinal Tap when Derek Smalls described his role in the band. David and Nigel were fire and ice and Derek was somewhere in the middle, like "lukewarm water", which is where Geddy is.
This is Alex's impersonation of Gord Downie. Don't take this wrong, I love the hip. Gord was known for his seemingly nonsensical lyrics during live shows. It was part of the Tragically Hip's appeal. Of course Alex is a comic trapped in an amazing guitarist's body.
If you see the concert intro/intermission skits they did for their blurays you can see Alex & Geddy could have been the next Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, or (most especially) Cheech & Chong. They were hilarious together.
Alex should release an album called wing it where he plays his guitar but the lyrics are anything he can think of at the moment. I think it would be funny as hell
i've never seen RUSH go so far off the (their) rails. Great to see they had it in them. This could be insight about how they brainstormed and assembled, codified and set those amazing tunes around Peart's (RIP) lyrics.
Awesome! Way to cool. Slightly off beat with a great finish. The fact they do a little improv and just add some more fun to a great piece is an example of their unique understanding of how well they got along and their skill at doing what they do best... jam. The screen shot of Neil was just brilliant and endearing. I'm sure we feel his loss. To Alex and Geddy very sorry for the loss of a great friend. To Neil - cheers! You are sorely missed.
I love how weird Alex is sometimes. His mess around lyrics are more fun than most popular songs, yesterday and today. Geddy has the best bass tone in the history of the world.

For many years, Alex would do these improvised deranged rants in the middle of La Villa Strangiato. Every night was different, and some of them were really hilarious. There used to a bunch of them here on youtube but I've not had much success finding them lately.
I always hated their music but often went to see them because I admired the way that they dressed. Especially the trousers. They always really nailed the trousers. Very snug where they needed to be and you only get that with high-end gentlemen's haberdashery.
They need to put together a jokey video from all the concerts they ever videotaped. WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT RIGHT ?? AM I RIGHT RUSH FANS ?? COME ON LET ALEX AND GEDDY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL !!!

Alex must've clued the boys in before the show "OK, I'm going to say silly words during LaVilla for a couple of minutes, then when I say I never get to do what I want", go back to the main theme.
Seeing the Professor smiling while drumming is a precious gift.
Alex could make even the most serious and stiff person laugh like an idiot. Alex is a man of many talents.
And rare…
A little sad that we will never see this happen LIVE again. Neil is still alive in all of us. Love ya professor.
Dewd, can you imagine the band God is putting together in Heaven? I CANT WAIT!!!
*Literally Crying* Thank You!!!
❤
Classic Alex.. Seeing the grin on the Professors face--- priceless !! Rush 4ever !!

From my experience, I find most Canadians don't take themselves too seriously. Not a bad trait to have.

"BAH BAH BAAHH..."
LOL
Perfect timing LOL
Never anything going over here..not like over there..they have dryers..
@@kevincummings632 Cracks me up!
I have been to probably 30 or so Rush concerts in my lifetime, never have I seen this comical side of the band. I love it!!
RIP Professor
Rush members have complete personality. Alex for being the goofy, Neil for being the serious, and Geddy at the middle
roolee2k Have you seen the video of them having dinner together? They’re all goofy as hell 😂
Reminds of Spinal Tap when Derek Smalls described his role in the band. David and Nigel were fire and ice and Derek was somewhere in the middle, like "lukewarm water", which is where Geddy is.

Alex Lifeson for President 2020
Alex Lifeson 2024
The best band in the galaxy. Forever and the day.

It's true, isn't it? Alex is quite a funny guy. I wonder if there's any chance he'd throw together a stand-up routine and take it on the road.
If you see the concert intro/intermission skits they did for their blurays you can see Alex & Geddy could have been the next Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, or (most especially) Cheech & Chong. They were hilarious together.
That this exists makes me happy!
When Alex takes something that was thrown and pitch it back in the audience while saying NO THANKS! It cracks me up!
I really want to know what the thing was!
@@alena4350 Yeah me too!
Maybe it was from somebody who was smokin' smokes ...

That was great! Miss the boys. Thanks for sharing!
Bob Monroe: I know, I’m still trying to come to grips with the idea of never seeing them live, again.
Love how these three friends enjoyed each other's company to the end.
Those are the kind of smirks that say "We could take a shit on the stage now and the crowd would go nuts."
GG Rush
This is why Alex wasn't allowed to write lyrics :-)
His words are very inspiring if you ask me
Lessons? :)
Bahahahahahaha!!!
Chemistry
I hate fuckin watches
And if you look up you can see Neils smiling face looking down at all the fans and tribute bands performing in his honor .❤ Miss u still professor ✌❤
Alex, bless his heart, what a trip! I'm surprised that Neil or Geddy could even play without losing it!
i've never seen RUSH go so far off the (their) rails. Great to see they had it in them. This could be insight about how they brainstormed and assembled, codified and set those amazing tunes around Peart's (RIP) lyrics.
WTF was that!?! Only Rush could do something so senseless and make it seem so cool. RIP.
Another reason these guys are my favorite. Funny as hell and best music ever period.
still can't believe ill never see them all together live again......it hurts man
In a lot of ways Alex was the glue. I think he could make both Geddy and Neil laugh like no one else could.
peart finally said enough @ 1:59

Truly magical as only Alex can be on the mike
Not his most inspired but always amusing and the musical accompaniment is astonishing
I love to see neil smiling on this one .❤
That was a totally awesome interlude...
never get a chance to do what I really want..
I LOVE THIS MAN
Neil: i write lyics
Alex: every thing is going on over here
For those who’ve arrived too late to see Rush live, honestly, they were as good as everyone said… and then some!
RIP Professor!
I thought at first that he was goofjng off in a sound check but this was the show!
I love Alex. Such a goofball. 👍
such a legend
his writeups of what gear he is using in the tour books are also funny. also some of the posed pics like the one where he is a bodybuilder
The most amazing band ever
I thought that was just brilliant, how they transitioned from Alex' humorous rant into La Villa Stangiato. These guys.
I think Alex LIFESON should host a talk show of his own one day it should be called The Alex LIFESON Show
The fact that there are thumbs down on this proves that RUclips is broken. We need a new RUclips - one where Rush videos are recommended to ALL.
God i love these guys. Funny as hell. Good lyrics great musicians. And fans that will always be there even after it ends.
Love Love Love Alex...
Great stuff!!
Best moments!!!
I would love to know who was responsible for the perfect timing when Alex gets cut off...
It had to be Alex, right?
Nice seeing them jam a Zappa song for a bit
I'm pretty familiar with both. What zappa song are they jamming?
@@zombywoof1015 it was a joke
Neil smilin ...having fun ❤😂😂😂😆😆
That collage shot of neil smiling would be priceless on my wall.
THE WAY THAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CLIP ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
At first I thought this was one of those bad lip reading type vids thats a joke remake that some guy does.. ha ha ha!! Fucking LOVE RUSH!! rip Neil!!!

"Neil was never concerned about job security" ..... Deep Rush Thoughts, 2020 :) Happy New Year All!
This is one of my favorite bands of all time for as long as I can remember but did Alex fall and hit his head. What the hell was that.
For many years, Alex would do these improvised deranged rants in the middle of La Villa Strangiato. Every night was different, and some of them were really hilarious. There used to a bunch of them here on youtube but I've not had much success finding them lately.
Two good ones are the Rush in Rio, jazz is weird and the R30 Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton rants.
Did that for many years when they were around
I always hated their music but often went to see them because I admired the way that they dressed. Especially the trousers. They always really nailed the trousers. Very snug where they needed to be and you only get that with high-end gentlemen's haberdashery.
Magical!!
"Never get a chance to do what I really want..." cut him off right there!!!!
friggin awesome

Hells YES.
I guess we finally understand where Primus gets it from.
Crazy weird and amazing
The rant section jam sounds like Primus
MIss You Neil
Very cool!
This is the funniest shit i've ever seen in my life. LMAO 😝😝
@1:55 Alex is whining and the Professor says enough!! lol 😆
You can tell by their clothing that they had made enough money by this time that they could stop streetwalking.
boiyoiyoiyoing.......cracks me up every time I watch it. Rush + Looney Tunes= funny!
Rush = Seamless
Is this Primus?
Neil’s face is fucking priceless
Rush + Charles Bukowski
Alex needs to do stand up !
Tom Hanks on the Drums!
any one have an idea why Geddy is wearing a Pennsylvania tshirt? curious to know if anyone has any knowledge on that
A nod to philly
Damn!
What's this, Victor? Hahaha
Why am i getting a primus vibe?
Primus gets a Rush vibe
1:39 Wonder what was thrown at him 🤔
Yeah, that was a Lerxst rant all right...
Alex channeling William Shattner :)
Alex must've clued the boys in before the show "OK, I'm going to say silly words during LaVilla for a couple of minutes, then when I say I never get to do what I want", go back to the main theme.
It's almost like Primus.
what was he saying no thanks to WHAT WAS HE SAYING NO THANKS TO im insane
Of course Neil would be the one to call time up on Alex's bizarre and silly rants!
Alex secretly listened to Zappa.
I doubt he did so secretly.
Obviously written and produced by Tom Greene
Poor Alex... LMAO !
Rush going into Primus mode lol
And for a few minutes... Rush were influenced by Primus.
