There are now Miyoo Minis being shipped out with firmware newer than 20220419. Miyoo Minis that have with a firmware of 202212xxxxxx and onward SHOULD NOT INSTALL 0419.
Miyoo Minis with a firmware of 202212160314 specifically have a bug in which they cannot save settings. Minis with this firmware should therefore update to at least 20221224 to fix this bug.

The community is working on getting new firmware out to the public for these unfortunate souls on 20221216, but thankfully only a handful of units on this firmware were sold.
Note: Version 4.0.2 has been released and there are some small changes to the process for upgrades. This will resolve some minor issues with the install process from 4.0.0. Use the download link below to get to the latest version!

Big update!
There are Miyoo Minis coming out with firmware *NEWER* than 20220419 now! We've had a couple people following this guide install 0419 on their newer devices, which is actually a bad thing, as the new devices do not play well with it!

@@CatholicGaming You can now get the 20230104 firmware on r/MiyooMini where it's just been released. Only update if you have one of the newly affected miyoos. Old miyoos, on the old chip with the 0419 firmware, should STAY on 0419, as its the best firmware for those devices.

Useful Tip : If games are not start after the onion os 4.0.3 installation ,enter the The Tweaks tool from the Package Manager. Within it go to Tools and run the Remove OSX system files. Then refresh all game rom lists.Now all roms are working like charm.

Awesome video!!!! You turned a good console into a GREAT console by clearly explaining all the features that are unique to only the Mini. I've had the console for a while but really didn't appreciate how to take advantage of the Onion OS features like the game switcher until I saw this video. Talk about a pick up and play console!!! This feature alone makes the console the number one retro handheld for gaming when you only have a few minutes to play but want to get that "fix" in! Thanks for your hard work!!

I had trouble getting my 64gb sd card to be recognised by the mini v3, even after formatting to fat32 using the Ridgecrop formatter tool mentioned in the video. No matter how many times i formatted the card, my miyoo said the card was "unmounted". Yet, the original 32gb micro sd card that was bundled with the Miyoo mini worked fine and was recognised. I thought that my 64gb card may of gone bad..
I found a solution, I used Rufus to format the 64gb card to fat32 and the card is now readable by the Miyoo mini. Rufus said that there was more than one partition on the micro sd card (the micro sd card was previously formatted to a linux file system to be used in a raspberry pi, so this could be why there was more than one partition - and the Ridgecrop tool failed to pick that up.
** This is the solution I followed to get the card readable by the miyoo mini : **
"If you plan on starting over with a new SD card, you will need to format the card as FAT32. You can format large SD cards as FAT32 in Windows 10 by downloading Rufus rufus.ie/en/ and changing a few of the default options. In the Boot selection drop-down list, select Non bootable. In the File system drop-down list, select Large FAT32 (Default) and make sure to untick Create extended label and icon files."

Note : After using Rufus you may need to assign a drive letter to the newly formatted card in order for it to appear in Windows file explorer. In Windows, search for "Create and format hard disk partitions", open it, right click the sd card (Under "Volume", my sd card was labelled "BOOT"), click "change drive letters and paths", add, select a letter and click add. The card will now appear in File explorer.

The only problem I've encountered thus far since updating is Streets of Rage Remake no longer booting. Upon investigation I noticed that the game's launch file (the update relocates it from Emu to Roms directory) was still set to locate the binaries in Emu folder. So a quick edit to the stated file path fixed it.
Edit: The same issue occurred with Diablo.
Can u direct me to a tutorial to install sor remake? I assume that's the fan remake. Love that game

Onion runs games better, and has more options. Stock OS is easier and smoother to navigate.

Hi, I really found all your miyoo mini videos helpful as a complete noob! I messed up my installation of onion v4 as my battery ran out whilst updating! So I reformated SD card and started all again, all is good now. Although I cannot get the mario 64 port back on, it's just sitting there in apps folder but won't launch. I also used to have streets of rage remake which would work by placing the files in the app folder, now the game no longer shows up in apps. Any ideas on any of this please?
For the Mario 64 port I had the same issue at first! They kind of switched around where things are kept from v3 to v4. In v3 the ports were kept in the emu folder and the PORTS and Binaries folder, but in v4 they have been moved to the ROMs folder. If you go to the Binaries folder in Roms in v4, you will put your .port file (in the ports folder in EMU in v3) in the main folder, your image in the image folder, and then take your super mario 64.port folder (folder not the .port file itself. It would be in the binaries folder in v3 under emu) in the binaries folder with in the ports folder within the roms folder in v4. Load in your sd and refresh roms and it should be good to go! Hopefully my explanation makes some sense lol.

I have a 4.2 Miyoo Mini Plus, but... is there a way to quickly browser through games? Seems like a huge oversight if you can only browse 1 game per D-pad tick. Means if you have over 1000 games for a system, you'll need to press the button over 1000 times to go through all of the games.
R2/L2 if I recall. Otherwise you can always search too!
Thanks for the vid! Weirdly I'm only getting a black screen when it boots up after updating. I've redone the update 3 times now and not once was it plugged in.
Is the .tmp_update folder on the SD? You may need to enable hidden files and copy it over too.

Hello, thank you for the tutorial, I successfully installed onion os! I have one question, tho, so I have tried to add consol from the package. However, when I go to that consol in "games," it's empty even after refreshing.How can I get the games there?

So when i go on retro arch and I load my gbc games with mGBA it works I can fastfoward etc. but when i go back to menue and click on GBC games (lets say pokemon) it wont let me fastforward or have the current save.
I dont have the issue with the GBA games, just GBC / GB. I just want a settings to fastforward, or a way to set the core as GBA.

No boxart is ever included, you'll need to use skraper and there's a handy tutorial on my channel!

I'm in need of help! I'm running Onion 4.03, and I want to change the screen resolution for my PC-Engine, GameBoy and GameBoy Color, all three of which appear to be in 1:1. I want them to take up the full screen (4:3 I think?), and yes, I know about SELECT+MENU, but none of the RetroArch menus for those particular games seem to have an option under Video to change resolution. I know that the two GameBoy systems mentioned aren't supposed to be full screen, but I would like them that way... and it just bugs me that PC-Engine isn't 4:3 by default. Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi! Confirmed on both systems:
1. Select + Menu
2. B to go to the main menu
3. Go to Settings
4. Go to Video > Scaling
5. Toggle "Keep Aspect Ratio"
Make sure to go back to the quick menu and save your core/game overrides too!

No! Onion OS will create the ROM folder and file structure itself.
The generic as card failed on my second rom download 😢 thankfully my bro is a tech wiz and he managed to make me a new sandisk 128 gb sd card. He downloaded onion is for me as well, but now I’m wondering how to quick save like I used to before the upgrade.
Whatever program came with miyoo mini plus had me press the home button to save and load a bunch of files. This new onion program isn’t as intuitive. Can anyone help?

When you install onion v4, Does it add anymore playstation 1 games automatically or do you still have only the ones that came pre installed with the miyoo?
No, since they're copyrighted. You should always expect to bring your own Roms.
Can I get away with this process on macOS or is windows necessary?
You can do it in Mac OS for sure! Use Disk Utility to format the card and press CMD+SHIFT+PERIOD (.) to show hidden files.

thanks for the video! im not sure what happened on my end, but during backup I seem to have lost the original "system" folder. so it seems im missing all of those necessary bios - when I open a Rom on OnionOs, it loads and then just returns to the Roms list. any ideas?
I got kinda confused, do I need to install the latest firmware on MY NEW sd card? Or does it just work if you installed it from the STOCK sd card?
I do not recommend using the card that comes with the device, especially for the firmware update. Use a name-brand, reliable SD instead.
Hi sir. I just had a question regarding the stock Miyoo Mini v2 sd card reader. So I ordered a mini from Ali express and it should be here in a few weeks. I bought an extra SD card but now I learned that even the sd card reader that they provide is horrible. What do you think? Should I buy an extra sd card reader or just use the stock sd card reader. They're usually pretty terrible and a good SD reader is always handy to have around. If you're strapped for cash you can try the included one and see how it goes, but I always recommend a good one from Anker!

What are you copying that's over 4GB? That's a limitation of FAT32 that cannot be changed, but I can't think of anything that would be that size on the Miyoo Mini

I got it done. I just had to individually drag each folder and sub folder over one by one..
Not sure how anyone's miyoo SD card is under 4gb lol. my rom folder alone was 48gb.
@@AG.Floats I mean that 4GB is the limit for individual files on a FAT32 file system. It's weird that your roms or whatever would have files over 4GB... I can't even think of anything you could put on the mini that would be anywhere near that size. Perhaps your file browser is compressing the files into one or something 🤔 anyway, glad you got it working!
I keep getting an error when I try to save my configuration through retroarch. I am trying to permanently set the rewind function so I don’t have to do it every time I open a game. Do you know what I could do to fix this issue? Thank you in advance!
hello I noticed like the detector of battery level is not working fine in my miyoo mini. Battery is ok, i tested it.. But the low battery signal appears after 5 minutes playing.. Do you know how to solve it? Thank you for your time!
Yeah the battery detector is pretty sketchy on mine as well. You can use the tweaks app to adjust the low battery warning or disable it.

Any changes to the psone emulator? I can't seem to run gear fighter dendoh on it. Only on my pocketgo v2 and psp atm.
No change to the standard core, but PCSX-ReArmed standalone was added in the expert section. You might give that a go!
all good and working but i cant get legend of zelda to start, it goes black and then back to game menu
I was in the middle of dragging the roms images and systems folder and while doing that I double clicked the systems folder and it was empty. Is this normal? Also what is the “systems” folder for? If I were to miss that one and put the sd card in my miyoo would it not work?
It tried to transfer save states the game won't boot and states are gone, any ideas?
Guys, tell me pls how to charge this console. I have two chargers. One of them is 5 volts and 2 amps, and the second is 5 volts and 700 milliamps. So I read on reddit that it is not recommended to use 2 amps and it is best to use exactly 1 amp. And in my case, can it be used at 700 milliamps?
The spec says specifically 5v 1 amp. I don't know a ton about power delivery but I would just get a charger that supports the official spec. For what its worth I've only ever charged the mini VOA my PC 🤷♂️
at 10:48 the "Toggle FPS display" shortcut "MENU + X" doesn't work for me :( any hints what could cause this problem
It really depends on whether the emulator supports it. What console are you playing?

i did everything as shown with a new SD. most of my games aren’t there… if i push sega icon for example. there’s no games. it just says “filter” and “refresh roms” neither do anything. help

I've been trying to install onion on my new Miyoo and I'm tearing my hair out. No matter what I do on my new SD card it just appears like some stock version of miyoo that's different from the default SD card except it's empty and there's nothing in there. No apps, games or anything. I pop the original 32 card in and the miyoo OS works fine, there's games/apps etc. I don't know what I'm missing and it's taking hours of trouble shooting as every time I have to format and try again, it takes ages to copy things over! I don't know what I'm missing here! I feel like I've tried everything.
Are you using GUI format to format the card as FAT32? Are you copying the hidden .tmp_update folder?

It's probably not formatted to FAT32.

Hey sorry for the wait. As far as I can tell there's no way to do so. The closest I found is that you can hide all the apps in the apps list by renaming the folder.

Man, mine is painfully slow. I think it is because I'm using the card that came with it. I don't want to buy one now because both samsung and Western Digital(sandisk) both had really good black Friday deals so I'll hold out another 6 days. It supports up to 128GB right?
I've used personally 512GB and I've seen 1tb working. I have a simple 8gb in mine now and it's awesome. Definitely worth a fast card.
I am getting an error when transferring the 'System' folder to my backup from a Mac OS. Any pointers? I put ROMs, Saves, and System onto the SD with exception to a few errors of folders that wouldnt copy due to errors. I have successfully installed Onion onto my 64G SD and it boots on the Miyoo but no games in sight. (I have it on my SD). Please help!

You can do it on Linux, but you'll need to use a different method to format the SD card.

followed all that to a tee.. opened up games in the new onion os.. and none of them load.. some systems were not even showing any roms in the folder. Trash, went back to the original miyoo os
Something went wrong in your installation. It happens. I'd recommend trying again, making sure your SD card is quality.
I installed Onion, but actually think I prefer the stock OS for quick saving and loading. Is there any way to go back to stock? Is it a case of reinstalling the original firmware?

Let me jump to the conclusion＝not working sega saturn game. cpu no power
2022/11/22 this is more expensive lately.
As for that there is no value which is a buy,
go to buy other handheld and androidphone is best..
I am interested in a small vertical handheld that can play Saturn, but the mini is great value for what it can do! Saturn is a huge jump over ps1

Is there a way to show all the games in one menu, without going to the consoles menu?
Mainly to make it simpler for a child to handle.
You can add all games to the favourites list, then go into the Tweaks app > System > Startup and set "Start Application" to "MainUI" and "MainUI Start Tab" to "Favourites". It'll boot right into the Favourites list every time. You can also use Tweaks > Tools to sort the Favourites list!

Updating the miyoo mini v2. You want to unplug the battery in the back and use a low power charger to provide power. ( 5v/1a or a smart plug, old cell chargers work.) Otherwise it's power supply could be unsteady
The unplugging the battery thing was only due to the V1 battery being really loose and easily knocked out. I've upgraded a handful on random chargers and its really not an issue in my opinion. There was just a lot of fear after the V1 issues but the new V2 connector solved it!

i’m still having trouble i don’t understand when i turn into a fat32 and put in my miyoo it turns on like normal.
Did you copy over the onion files after formatting it?

What's the reason you recommend not installing GameSwitcher?
The GameSwitcher "app" just opens the switcher, but its already tied into the system including when you press the function button. Basically it just adds a redundant shortcut to the apps list.
Hi, I have a problem with a few Odyssey 2 games that do not work. I can't start Atlantis, and on Attack of the TimeLord the DPad does not move the firing base and on Demon Attack...I cannot get play one to work with virtual keyboard (Select 0, 2,4, or 6) it always starts with player 2. Can someone confirm that there games act the same way? I have tried different roms and made sure all bios are installed. No luck
Hmm, its hard to say with a keyboard/mouse like device. My MS-DOS tutorial goes into setting up different control methods and should apply to the Odyssey 2 as well.
