I've built quadcopters which go +150MPH on 4s batteries and have done a ton of aerodynamics studying including many CFD simulations. Aerodynamics is your #1 limiting factor. Drag increases with the square of speed, power to overcome drag increases with the cube of speed. I hope you enjoy fluid dynamics as much as I do :) It's all about the Reynolds number and maintaining laminar flow for as long as possible over a very low drag body. Fun stuff! Look at the symmetrical NACA airfoil shapes and base your body around them, but you'll need to counteract lift. What a fun challenge.
Every time you come out with a new video, I get the notification and I get so excited! But this one especially, because it's about the Limitless! I love your videos; keep up the good work!
The WR was posted by a world class sponsored for many years RC driver. Huge thought went in to wetting the WR and very custom design. Horse power isn't all that's needed to get to those speeds. At around 150 you are pushing thru some really thick air and it's only getting more so for every mph faster you go. Look at the design of the WR holders car. I can 100% assure you that special tires will be required to number 1 stay together at those speeds and to not balloon so much at really high speeds that your driving on vinyl records... Just cause gearing and KV say it's possible the many other factors will be saying it's not. Another problem your going to have is down force. On a setup like that your going to be making so much down force at 150 and exponentially more up to 203 that the drag being created will be severely holding you back and requiring lots of power to push through it.. The wings and body will be really making a lot of down force wayyyyyy more then you will need at those extreme speeds... Another thing would be the 4wd even tho this one isn't huge... But ideally you a one way equipped 4wd system would be ideal over the full time 4wd. Again going power won't get you there alone.... If you go at it like that you fail before you start. I know what im talking about.... I ran for HPI back in the day and was one of the first to break 110MPH average lap at the Velodrome in the Extreme speed challenge running a highly highly sophisticated carbon monocoque prototype powered by 18 half C cells and some very hot custom hand wound Trinity 4 turn single motors and some custom BSR rubber capped foam tires designed to hold together for a sustained single lap of the velodrome at 105mph... It took about 20 runs before we i completed one, gears melting, cooking motors, cooking ESCs, mainly exploding a capped tire... At these speed runs held at the Velodrome every year the big manufactures was there with their top drivers... HPI, Team AE, Schumacher, Yokomo, trinity and so on and so forth... It was a huge deal (this was back in the mid 90s, 95 when i set the velodrome average lap record of 110.21mph) with big backing and big money spent.... So i know a thing or two about going fast with RC cars... I can 100% say this... We was not going in a straight line but rather running on a highly banked oval and having the car setup to be drivable at 100MPH average meaning 120 or so peak speeds... Lots of heat happens in the outside tires at that track and keeping things together for a whole lap was hard back then... Power systems are much better and capable then back then so that's a plus but aerodynamics haven't changed. Tires experience huge loads at such extremely high rpm and will honestly be your biggest issue.... There is a huge difference between going 203plus and the peak 125ish mph i hit at the velodrome and different sets of issues facing you then was facing me but at the end of the day.... Power won't be the limiting factor just as it wasn't back then... It will be tires first and aerodynamic hurdles 2nd.
I don't think this chassis is anywhere near optimized enough for the job. Can't imagine the current record holder started with anything more than a pair of diffs (if that) and a couple piles of carbon fiber prepreg and 7075 aluminum billets.
A good tip for speed runs: you should always have your steering dual rates lowered, because when you going at 65mph+ your steering inputs are multiplied, so if your D/R are lowered it’s easier to make steering corrections without having the big possibility of losing control, trust me this tip ALL SPEEDRUN GUYS SHOULD USE! I guess the only problem with d/r is, it’s harder to avoid (swerve out the way) obstacles, so make sure the road your on is STRAIGHT! the whole way through your run, and there’s no obstacles 👍🏾
What he says! ☝️ As shown in the vid, with the slight wobble flicking back to centre, that wobble will result in loosing control. I drop the end point down to around 30% too, you want only really small steering inputs.
Even better than having the dual rate lowered is to use EXPONENTIAL on the steering. SO..in the center of the steering travel big steering wheel inputs move the wheels only a little bit until the steering wheel it turned past a certain point then it will give full response. This is the best of both worlds.
If you want to go over 200mph you should use more quality lipos with a higher c-rate and you have to buy a better gps logger. AND PLEASE DO NOT KILL SOMEBODY BEACUSE 200MPH IS VERY FAST AND AT THAT HIGH SPEEDS MANY THINGS CAN GO WRONG!!!! Good luck
