Thank you for all the helpful info! I was really hoping you had got the Tilton ST246 that Grannas offers. I'm digging for feedback on that clutch. I know Joel says it's an easy driving clutch, but his reference point is a pretty wild car lol I need to hear from more people.
Just subed!! Thank you for this great great informative video. To be honest this is the only real world review outhere! I mean we all know these Gearboxes can handle the power! But how are they in what I call real world street applications? 🤔..and you literally Nailed it!! Thank you much..I will watch your other videos and hope to see new videos soon! God bless and be safe!♥️
I have the transmission before the magnum F and it was paired with a OS Giken carbon triple plate clutch and I HATED it. It was so freaking awful to drive. Changed the clutch to a Tilton twin disc and changed it completely 180. Still loud but is now bearable. Definitely a strong set up!
Wow the previous generation must have had a complete redesign for the Magnum F. I will definitely switch to the Tilton clutch in the near future though!
@@buildit_ian apparently so. The clutch feel now is amazing. It's not so close to OEM where it's super soft but it's not super hard either. It was definitely what I was looking for. But I completely agree with what you were saying about the fluid temperature. It's a night and day difference between cold and hot with that transmission.
@@lordoftherims436 I am very happy with my Tilton. But I will say the first one I received was no good. Not sure if it was a machining issue or something happened during shipping. But I love it so I would recommend it 👌
I have the aluminium bellhousing, ST246 Tilton. I still hear it a bit in idle but at engine brake I notice it. It could be also because of the billet plate between diff and the DSS Alushaft. I also took 2 layers of the OEM shifter rubber so I could fit the shifter so I could add some soundproofing.
Awesome video man! Did you go with Grannas's Tilton twin disk clutch? I've just installed a V160 with that clutch and I'm experiencing the exact same clutch/gearbox noises, so it might just come from that instead of the gearbox itself :)
Definitely faster as I am putting more power down to the ground now, however I know once I start making more power, nothing would be faster than a built automatic. I’ll never switch back though, driving a manual is more enjoyable for me
7:54 Can you tell me what differential ratio you are running? I’m trying to choose the right differential for my 2JZ Mk3 Supra for a T56 setup. I want to be around 2500RPMs at 80mph in 6th gear.
The stock Auto TT rear diff from the MKIV is 3.76 ratio, 200mm. Not the best ratio since the gears are longer, but this will get you close to the 2500 RPM at 80mph in 6th. Maybe a bigger tire will help too , I’m on a 275/40/17 rear
I paid just under 8500 for the full Auto TT to T56F swap, prices may have changed since then, plus I bought it on Black Friday. It’s definitely worth it!

5:07 - "Box of Rocks"? You mean like damaging the pilot bearing? Not bad?
Great videos bro! Very informative. I just bought a ‘97 TT auto and plan on doing this swap.
Buddy of mine did a ZF 8HP swap in his auto TT.
That tranny swap fully transformed the car.

Thanks for all the support!!! 🙌🏽 🙌🏽 🙌🏽
Great transmission and so much better then the V160
I’d love to do this swap but getting it shipped over from the states is a huge set back
What do you think needs to be done to counter that noise on idle that makes the transmission sounds like a box of rocks rolling?
What are your RPMs at when driving 70mph in 6th gear?
For bmws we use *redline synthetic atf in our manual boxes. Shifts are way slicker
I’ll definitely check that out, thanks!
Supra
Keep them coming my man. Very good info.
Thanks, will do! 🙌🏽
Sounds like a throw out bearing rattle, that would drive me crazy personally
I thought throw out bearing noise occurs when you push the clutch in. some input shaft bearing noise is normal especially on older Hondas and evos.

@@Lady_2jz the tilton st246 twin disc seems like a really nice clutch. Should i go with it?

Not sure if I missed it, but what clutch are you using?
I’m using the McLeod “street stage 2” single disk
try redline heavy duty gearbox oil. it almost stops all noise. we use it on some of our solid flywheel cars and it stopped noise
You the man! Definitely going to try this
Are you using the auto tt diff? 80 mph at 2750 revs seems to indicate that. Great info on the swap.
Yea, I kept the auto TT rear diff, I’ll be switching to a more suitable ratio later, but it’ll do for now
@@buildit_ian So you’re running a 4.30 differential then?
@@755hp it should be 3.66

@@denizhanozkara I use Redline, the sound is coming most likely from the clutch/flywheel.
Damn I'm so glad I didn't buy the steel bell housing it's hella loud 🔊 I could barely hear anything you said. Yes the T-56 is the Way to go.🏁🏁🏁👍
😂
What clutch did you go with? I have the Mcleod stage 4 single disc inside the aluminium bell housing and it is as loud or louder than this video.
Nah I love the sound of it

Would you sell the auto transmission?
As much as you enjoy changing gears, how much faster or slower is it now.

Currently the stock Auto TT rear diff which is 3.76 ratio, 200mm. Not the best ratio since the gears are longer
@@buildit_ian I’ve heard some rear diffs can be either 3.23 or 3.13, if thats true which do you plan to go with?
