People say you don't really need wrist watches and pocket knives these days. I say they are absolutely necessary items for depressed modern people. We could use every little things that brings happiness into our lives!

i would say a Victorinox Swiss Army knife like the classic Spartan is the best EDC knife, it´s affordable, it has a classic desing, and is more than just a kife. It is also a friendly looking knife, and it covers basic day to day activities!

I would agree but the worst bit about SAKs is the knife. The rest of the tools are great for EDC but the actual knife and the ergonomics are pretty poor. The Alox range is a bit better in terms of the knife but they're less useful tools overall. I still carry the SAK officer's knife most days though.
Same here, gimme a Victorinox Huntsman every day of the week and twice in Sunday. Carrying one since my 12th birthday in 1981. I’ve tried all sorts of other knives but nothing compares.
Last summer, I returned to my childhood home, Bradford, PA, for the first time in 45 years. Naturally, I had to visit the Case knife museum & factory (and factory store). It’s a relatively small, but fascinating facility. It’s also the home of Zippo lighters; another old style collectible. It’s worth the side trip if you’re in the area, and there’s no snow on the ground.
Had a tradition where my uncle and I would exchange case knives for Christmas presents the first 18 years of my life- fond memories of case knives and a solid collection now!
I bought a rough ryder zombie pocket knife foe my kid. I was so impressed with what you got for the price, i bought one for myself. A navajo style decorated canoe. Absolutely love it.
I've been collecting knives since I was in my teens. 30+ years later, my collection has become about 90% Case knives. Their quality is unmatched for the price, and they make so many beautiful examples. But my EDC has always been a Victorinox Swiss Army knife. The Victorinox is just so practical. Currently, I'm carrying the Victorinox Executive. The Mini-Champ and Midnite Mini-Champ are two of my other favorites.
As a Texan who lives in both the UK and Texas, I carry a Buck 373 every single day. It's comfortable in a suit, uniform, jeans or shorts. It's absolutely legal in both countries. If I need a bigger knife for hunting, work, etc., I carry that too. But when I'm done with that task, I put the big one up and still have the 373 in my pocket. For my money, it's the perfect gentleman's pocket knife. Operative words there are 'gentleman' and 'pocket'. Just like a tool watch, a tool knife has its place but that doesn't mean you need everywhere.
I love Case knives. My dad has one my papaw carried in the mines, he used it a lot to make cable splices etc. he used it thoroughly to the point where the edge on one of the blades looks like a rainbow. Nice collection man, I think a Zero Tolerance would go nicely with your collection too. The ZT 0450 and the carbon fiber version (0450CF) are great for a gentleman’s knife as they’re relatively short blades with a really slender profile, smooth ball bearing action, and easy one-hand opening and closing, and of course made in the USA.
In the uk about the best you can carry is a penknife, in my case it a Victorinox Pioneer X (and an SD on a key ring). For home the Cybertool is a great bit of kit.
So glad to see you do this video. I love pocket knives. They are the perfect accessory to a watch and I purposely choose what knife I am carrying to the watch I am wearing. I too am a fan of the Russlock. It's both classy and yet modern compared to older traditional patterns. Takes practice but once you learn to open it you can also close it one handed.
Hoo buddy, this is certainly an obsession of my life. Typically in my edc I rotate two limited edition Benchmades in 20CV steel, the 940-1501 and 535-1901, 2 sprint run Spydercos, the DLT Smock (new) and a Para 3 in 52100 steel, plus the Mantra and the Raffir Noble Chaparral. I also carry secondary knives, which are either a variety of Opinel #6 of various colors, several Mercator/Otters or older Case/Barlow folders. For heavy duty weekend work, I carry either a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in K390 or a Manix 2 in 52100, or a BM 560BK1 "Superfreek" in M4 steel.

I have to say that Case XX knives are my favorite. My grandfather got me into them years ago through handling his collection. I still have one of the Case XX knives that he gave me years ago. Sadly the rest of them including a German officer’s watch from WWII, plus his 16013 Datejust were lost in a house fire. Keep up the great vids TGV!
Oh yes, this reminds me on some of your old videos, and everything that i can say is that i like this new ''old'' TGV. I love my knives, too. My Opinel is an exact same size and same steel like yours, that knife i love the most. Off course, i love my Mora Companion carbon, and my Jaktkit. Opinel and Morakniv are breaking all the rules ''how cheap can be any good?'' Well, just like a Casio F91, an answer is the same. A masterpiece don't need to be expensive. Usually i don't like folding knives, i don't believe them, but Opinel has a really special place in my heart. Good video TGV Ciao

10:06 One of the best modern budget knives is the Ontario Rat. Traditional recommendation: In terms of functionality it is hard to beat an Opinel and it is even one of the cheapest.
I strongly recommend the Chris Reeve Mnandi. That’s the ultimate modern gentlemen’s knife. Great size, good blade steel, beautiful wood inlays and most important one of the best pocket clips I know. Only drawback is, that it’s really expensive.
Case pocket knives are awesome. I own 2 of them and I have had both for about 10 years. One is a Case Sodbuster and the other is the Case Stockman. Another company is Great Eastern Cutlery, there quality is also amazing.
I never leave home without my Victorinox Swiss Army knife. I've been literally wearing these knives for over 40 years, and I got so used to them, that when I need to travel with carryon only, I feel like I'm missing a limb. Gorgeous knife of yours, TGV. BTW, you should have asked Hugo for his velociraptor friends razor sharp claws, I'm sure the story would have been a good one.

I own the mini Griptilian in both versions with round and oval hole, but in Germany we have quite strict laws against lockable knifes that can be opened with one hand. So I hesitate to carry it in public. That is why I edc a Victorinox bantam alox. It has all I need, is super slim, fits even in a coin pocket of a jeans, is sturdy, always sharp an no one raises a brow when I take it out. For formal occasions the laguiole would be a finer choice of course but since I have the alox version, I think the swiss knife also fits, when I wear a suit.
I've always carried a multitool instead of a knife. To me, a knife is but one of the tools I need regularly, and something with screwdrivers or a set of pliers is much more useful. My EDC is either a Leatherman Wave or a Victorinox CyberTool. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but either can do 90% of what I need to do. (I've even used the small pen inside my Swiss Army Knife more times than I can count.)
I love case and I’m a PA boy so I’m rabid about local companies like Hamilton, Zippo, Case, Streamlight, I even have a Westmorland built VW Rabbit gti (love the squares)... But my grandfather used to say that a case was fine for your pocket but if you’re going to get work done use the Buck. I tend to carry spyderco but I still have my grandfathers Buck 110 that was given to him by his father, it’s field dressed many of deer.

OPINEL - the only pocket knife at Museum modern art. Never leave home without it - ore one of my other pocket knives. But remember to tjek the local police. In Denmark - one hand operational knives are NOT allowed - and no knives above 7,5 cm blade. A super video.
If you get a bottle of neatsfoot oil down at the hardware store, you can rub it into the leather of the sheath to darken it up. It will give it a nice worn in look.
Been fascinated with knives since I was 7. Ten years later (1980), I was looking for my first knife purchase. Fell in love with the Buck 110. Had to put it on layaway since I didn't have enough $$ to buy it 😒 Still have the knife and the receipts. I've owned several brands over the years but, Buck Knives are still my favorite. My daily carry is the Buck 295 Tempest. Prior to that was the Buck 290 Rush. For years I carried the 110 in its sheath on my belt until someone at work freaked out and complained to management. Hence the acquisition of some smaller knives to carry in my pocket until I discovered the 290 Rush. Side note: The Buck 110's of this generation are nowhere as good as my older generation model.
@P M B Son; you need to get your facts straight. First, pistols go in holsters. Second, knives go in sheaths. A knife in a sheath on your belt is for Function, not fashion. Generally, those knives are too large to comfortably fit in a pocket.
First, let me thank the Urban Gentry for a heart on my previous comment. Like other have said the love of time keeping machines and knives do certainly go together, at least for some people. I do not collect knives as I consider them to be tools to be used. I do have a modest wristwatch and pocket watch collection. This collection includes Omega Seamaster, 1960’s Omega square in 18k, 1930,s and 40’s Hamilton’s, Bulova’s and Elgin’s. I also have my grandfather’s Elgin and my great-grandfather’s Illinois. My wife inherited her grandmother’s clock collection, which is museum quality. We had a clock that was not working correctly and I said I would take a look at it. My wife was shocked that I could work to clocks (no formal training) and actually fix them.
While I admire the bone handle, I think that it is a bit showy for EDC when you are dealing with the major Corporate Sector Companies. But like you I still use my pocket knife every day. And like you I got that habit from my grandfather, an old gold miner. As I am now 83, that was a long time ago, but I can still see him using his very worn, but very sharp bone handle knife. But I use two Victorinox knives. The standard McGiver style site alongside my pens, in a small pocket inside my leather satchel, but the most commonly used one is the 2-3 inch mini Victorinox which lives with my keys in a leather key wallet. I keep it razor sharp and while it lacks the tools on the Swiss Army Knife in my satchel it has got numerous computers and office equipment back in service over the last 60 years, because being attached to my keys it was always with me. As they used to say ---- The best knife in the world is the one you have with you. Phil.
@@Fabianwew Fabian, I think my model Victorinox is called the Traveller and the corkscrew has been very handy when I was traveling interstate a lot and would buy a couple of bottles of wine to share with my technical support staff. I am Old School and I still like a cork in my bottle and it is surprising how many 4/5 star hotels don't have a bottle opener available. But I can't check on the knife model because for the last 10 weeks I have been in the COVID 19 Intensive Care Ward of The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne Australia. When I was admitted the Nurse told me that the infection was very advanced and I had a maximum of two days to live. The next morning the Doctor in charge of the COVID Intensive Care Ward met with me to tell me that I would not last the day. He said that when I collapsed he would not permit the use of one of the very scarce respirators because I was 82 and it probably would not be effective. He then said that they would help me die as peacefully as possible. So I told him that the previous evening I had appointed my Solicitor as my Next of Kin because I didn't want any of my family involved. While that only took 30 seconds to say, and I said nothing else, my Solicitor, who is my closest personal friend has a notorious criminal profile that was the basis of a series of books on organised crime in Melbourne Australia and then became a TV series. I knew that the Doctor would Google my Solicitors name out of pure curiosity. Last Friday I became the last person remaining in Intensive Care in Melbourne so they moved me into a secure site. If I past the COVID test today I will be able to leave. Having failed more than 40 test during the last 10 weeks I am sitting on my bed tapping this out on my mobile phone to relieve the boredom. But I am only alive today because I believed that by appointing my Solicitor as my Next of Kin that the Doctor in Charge would decide that just letting me die because I was 82 was not a good idea, because both he and Melbourne's largest Hospital could not only end up as front page national news, in the Rupert Murdoch owned local newspapers, but the Hospital could end up with a multi-million dollar legal problem. It doesn't matter if that is just fantasy, because what matters is that for the last 60 years I have "Made a living out of reading people's faces" (Kenny Rogers ---- The Gambler) and I played my last hand to win. So hopefully I can now go home with a good bottle of Victorian Shiraz and a thick steak, and fish out the corkscrew on my Victorinox "Officer's Knife" to celebrate that I knew how to play the last hand of cards that Fate dealt me. Nagao Higonokami folding knives are legendary throughout Japan. Crafted by Mr Nagao, the last remaining blacksmith of the guild permitted to make genuine Higonokami. Affordable, simple, beautiful you can just about open one handed. But you need to careful, it’s a razor.
You can change the color of your sheath in 10 min's. wipe it down with acetone then a little shoe die from the grocery store. I have several Bark River knives and the come with an unfinished sheath. I actualy prefer to finish the sheath myself that way I get it done the way I want it. Another great video.
I recently added a Chris Reeve Mnandi in box elder to my EDC collection. Made in Idaho to Swiss watch standards, it is a knife you will pass along to your grandchildren. Always a great video, keep them coming TGV you never let us down.
Really nice video. I saw one of these in the local hardware store recently and absolutely fell in love with it. There is just something about Case knives, they are the perfect match of art and function much like a Timex. I have several that belonged to my grandfather, I am actually giving my son one of them for his college graduation.

...alright, I am s knife guy who also likes watches, not the other way around, but I wouldn’t recommend case knives for daily carry unless you are pretty well versed in what you are getting. They will not come very sharp, and they will need to be sharpened pretty frequently. I like Case knives, but they are an acquired taste. If you are more used to modern style or materials, you should go with the newer “modern” slipjoints that lionsteel is offering. They are much more precisely made, and easier tp take care of for most people. If you really want to go traditional, then Great Eastern Cutlery makes them a bit better than Case, and for not much more money. They will however be a bit harder to get, and a bit more expensive. And if you really want to dive into the high-end blades, then you can get into something like a Chris Reeve or Hinderer. Do NOT recommend unless you know what you are getting into though.
My watch collection is neck and neck with my knife collection. My next bespoke knife hails from the States via Africa. It is called a CHRIS REEVE MNANDI. Take a moment to look it up, although on the pricier side, the craftsmanship is second to none. Onward and upward TGV!
TGV, if you are looking for a good middle ground between a traditional knife and an assisted open, I highly recommend the Case “Kickstart” mid-folding hunter.
Enjoyed your video tremendously - you do not need an elaborate intro every time. They are fun, but you do so well without! Also like the little 'eraser knife' in the beginning on your desk. Use one like this still today to erase my fountain pen mistakes on paper.
I also like the Swiss Army Knife line. I keep a SAK Classic SD on a lanyard around my neck. It’s the first thing I put on and the last thing I take off every day.
i have been into pocket knives much longer than watches and own and love case brand knives. many of the other brands you showcased of this video have begun to manufacture their knives overseas whereas case is competitively priced and still made in bradford pa. never really connected with the russlock, really like the copperlock model. perfect size, lockback, and purposeful blade shape

Jay hasn't mentioned or doesn't know the full details of knife laws here in the UK (I carry a knife with me daily as a wonderfully useful tool). You are absolutely allowed to carry ANY knife if you have a reasonable and obvious reason to do so (you are out hunting for example). If not, you can still carry a folding knife under a specific length, fulfilling any possible day to day needs you could ever want a knife for. There is no justifiable reason to argue against those laws, except for those who want to do others harm (they're terrible self-defense weapons). Those proclaiming tyranny whenever they are prevented from doing WHATEVER they want, fail to understand how peaceful societies function. Our laws are analogous with those in practically every other western society, bar the US, which is hardly the most peaceful society to aspire to follow (see relative murder rates, violent crime rates, incarceration statistics, etc.)! Ah look what I've done, I've talked politics... Ignore me!
Nice to see a TGV pocketknife video again. I would recommend the Chris Reeves small sebenza. They are extremely expensive but it has become the only knife I use.

Nice job of enlightening your viewers about the benefits of an EDC knife. If I could suggest -- I encourage you to always mention the importance of a lockable blade when considering an EDC knife. A lockable blade that can't fold down and slash fingers is a vital feature that is often not considered when buying a small blade for everyday use.
I love case knives case and SAK are my most carried since they are UK legal, I have a trapper in the same jig pattern but instead of having a second spear blade it had a bottle opener
I have a slightly big collection of knives, most are multiple Opinels No. 8’s with different woods for the handle, one of them being vintage from the 1980s. But usually I will grab the Victorinox Super Tinker, my childhood watching MacGyver got me into these. Also been carrying lately, a rarity in the States, the Kizlyar Scout, made in Russia. For a simple folding knife, it does the job when I need a larger knife. Also really enjoy the Morakniv Basic 511, a great, budget friendly utility knife from Sweden. The blade stays wicked sharp with whatever you throw at it. I use it mainly now for cooking.
Oh my, knife collecting can get as deep as horology. Read up on the steel, as higher end knives boast better grades of it. A serious knife collector would have a Sebenza by Chris Reeve. Definitely look into that first. Other brands you should explore: - Fällkniven (Sweden) - Enzo (Finland) - Al Mar (Japan) - Mcusta (Japan) - Böker (Germany) I know you’re into history, so you want to find knives made in Solingen, Germany and Seki City, Japan. These cities have a very long history of blade making. Böker is based in Solingen, and Kai (owner of Kershaw) is from Seki City.
i carry a case folder on dressier occasions, but have been interested in the new spring assist trapperlock blends modern innovations with a timeless elegant design
Two knives have sprung to mind that would undoubtedly compliment your conservative yet functional tastes and are indeed things of beauty. I. The Spyderco Chaparral with its sub 3inch slither thin, CTX-XHP spine lock blade that comes with your choice of carbon fibre or titanium scales. Seriously one of the sharpest knives out of the box I've ever come across! 2. Spyderco Dragonfly with a rare choice of either black or blue Nishijin scales. Again, this is another sub 3 inch folder of which the blade is made of ZDP-189 steel that you'll never need to sharpen. These scales must be seen to be believed! These knives will even have your wife drooling at the bit! Lol.....
Knives are cool and very useful tools. From opening packages and boxes to peeling cucumbers, as my dad used to do with his trusty Persian , Zanjan knife. Cheers 🥂
Very nice video. For every day use, I prefer a knife with a pocket clip so the knife doesn't fall to the bottom of my pocket. Wish Case made more with clips.
My dad collected antique penknives - he had a whole draw full of them when I was a kid, bone handles, Sheffield steel, all different sizes from tiddlers the size of my little finger to great big tools....... my mum sold the lot after he passed! Aargh!
I love my "Honoré Durand" Laguiole 12cm as an everyday knife together with my Richartz... Use them from kitchen work to cutting belts in my truck, so one of them is always in my pocket...
Case makes very nice and affordable functional knives. Another great EDC knife is the Benchmade Proper pocket knife. It is made of high quality S30v stainless steel. It is a manual opening, sub 3 in folding knife.
My favorite EDC carry knives are: For casual and outdoor it would be the SOG Trident Mini tanto-style (non-serrated). Love this knife and the brand. For work/dress I carry a Laguiole en Aubrac with juniper wood handle.
For a sub $60 knife I would recommend kershaw cryo. It's a shorter slightly beefer knife than the leek but still has the spring assist opening. I currently edc the benchmade bugout. Will be modding it with custom scales soon!

I got a case knife as a groomsman gift and it sparked the interest a long time ago. For a gentleman’s knife I would look no further then Enrique Peña his designs are so classic but with a modern touch! If you can’t afford his custom selection his x-series is bigger batches of his customs at more affordable price! Cheers!

Just like a tool watch, a tool knife has its place but that doesn't mean you need everywhere.

I carry a hand forged Damascus viking neck knife. Mad useful.
Knives and watches go together so well. Both functional, yet nice to look at and fun to collect.
I love Case knives. My dad has one my papaw carried in the mines, he used it a lot to make cable splices etc. he used it thoroughly to the point where the edge on one of the blades looks like a rainbow. Nice collection man, I think a Zero Tolerance would go nicely with your collection too. The ZT 0450 and the carbon fiber version (0450CF) are great for a gentleman’s knife as they’re relatively short blades with a really slender profile, smooth ball bearing action, and easy one-hand opening and closing, and of course made in the USA.
In the uk about the best you can carry is a penknife, in my case it a Victorinox Pioneer X (and an SD on a key ring). For home the Cybertool is a great bit of kit.
I picked up a Kershaw Launch 11 a few months ago. Thing is solid, and I use it all the time. Good steel.
So glad to see you do this video. I love pocket knives. They are the perfect accessory to a watch and I purposely choose what knife I am carrying to the watch I am wearing. I too am a fan of the Russlock. It's both classy and yet modern compared to older traditional patterns. Takes practice but once you learn to open it you can also close it one handed.
Hoo buddy, this is certainly an obsession of my life. Typically in my edc I rotate two limited edition Benchmades in 20CV steel, the 940-1501 and 535-1901, 2 sprint run Spydercos, the DLT Smock (new) and a Para 3 in 52100 steel, plus the Mantra and the Raffir Noble Chaparral. I also carry secondary knives, which are either a variety of Opinel #6 of various colors, several Mercator/Otters or older Case/Barlow folders. For heavy duty weekend work, I carry either a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in K390 or a Manix 2 in 52100, or a BM 560BK1 "Superfreek" in M4 steel.

I have to say that Case XX knives are my favorite. My grandfather got me into them years ago through handling his collection. I still have one of the Case XX knives that he gave me years ago. Sadly the rest of them including a German officer’s watch from WWII, plus his 16013 Datejust were lost in a house fire. Keep up the great vids TGV!

I love my knives, too. My Opinel is an exact same size and same steel like yours, that knife i love the most. Off course, i love my Mora Companion carbon, and my Jaktkit. Opinel and Morakniv are breaking all the rules ''how cheap can be any good?'' Well, just like a Casio F91, an answer is the same. A masterpiece don't need to be expensive. Usually i don't like folding knives, i don't believe them, but Opinel has a really special place in my heart.

One of the best modern budget knives is the Ontario Rat.
Traditional recommendation: In terms of functionality it is hard to beat an Opinel and it is even one of the cheapest.
I've yet to find a knife in the sub 50 dollar range that beats my Rat-2 :)

I strongly recommend the Chris Reeve Mnandi. That’s the ultimate modern gentlemen’s knife. Great size, good blade steel, beautiful wood inlays and most important one of the best pocket clips I know. Only drawback is, that it’s really expensive.
Case pocket knives are awesome. I own 2 of them and I have had both for about 10 years. One is a Case Sodbuster and the other is the Case Stockman. Another company is Great Eastern Cutlery, there quality is also amazing.
I never leave home without my Victorinox Swiss Army knife. I've been literally wearing these knives for over 40 years, and I got so used to them, that when I need to travel with carryon only, I feel like I'm missing a limb. Gorgeous knife of yours, TGV.
BTW, you should have asked Hugo for his velociraptor friends razor sharp claws, I'm sure the story would have been a good one.
Happy to see the varied content making a comeback! Although it’s a bit of a tightrope to walk these days, I’d love to see a refresher of gentlemanly conduct discussions you used to produce.
I own the mini Griptilian in both versions with round and oval hole, but in Germany we have quite strict laws against lockable knifes that can be opened with one hand. So I hesitate to carry it in public. That is why I edc a Victorinox bantam alox. It has all I need, is super slim, fits even in a coin pocket of a jeans, is sturdy, always sharp an no one raises a brow when I take it out. For formal occasions the laguiole would be a finer choice of course but since I have the alox version, I think the swiss knife also fits, when I wear a suit.
I've always carried a multitool instead of a knife. To me, a knife is but one of the tools I need regularly, and something with screwdrivers or a set of pliers is much more useful. My EDC is either a Leatherman Wave or a Victorinox CyberTool. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but either can do 90% of what I need to do. (I've even used the small pen inside my Swiss Army Knife more times than I can count.)
I love case and I’m a PA boy so I’m rabid about local companies like Hamilton, Zippo, Case, Streamlight, I even have a Westmorland built VW Rabbit gti (love the squares)... But my grandfather used to say that a case was fine for your pocket but if you’re going to get work done use the Buck. I tend to carry spyderco but I still have my grandfathers Buck 110 that was given to him by his father, it’s field dressed many of deer.

OPINEL - the only pocket knife at Museum modern art. Never leave home without it - ore one of my other pocket knives. But remember to tjek the local police. In Denmark - one hand operational knives are NOT allowed - and no knives above 7,5 cm blade.

If you get a bottle of neatsfoot oil down at the hardware store, you can rub it into the leather of the sheath to darken it up. It will give it a nice worn in look.
Case, buck knives, and old timer are classics, but ka-bar is quietly putting out some really affordable good quality folding pocket knives.
Been fascinated with knives since I was 7. Ten years later (1980), I was looking for my first knife purchase. Fell in love with the Buck 110. Had to put it on layaway since I didn't have enough $$ to buy it 😒
Still have the knife and the receipts. I've owned several brands over the years but, Buck Knives are still my favorite. My daily carry is the Buck 295 Tempest. Prior to that was the Buck 290 Rush.
For years I carried the 110 in its sheath on my belt until someone at work freaked out and complained to management. Hence the acquisition of some smaller knives to carry in my pocket until I discovered the 290 Rush.
Side note: The Buck 110's of this generation are nowhere as good as my older generation model.

@P M B Son; you need to get your facts straight. First, pistols go in holsters. Second, knives go in sheaths. A knife in a sheath on your belt is for Function, not fashion. Generally, those knives are too large to comfortably fit in a pocket.

First, let me thank the Urban Gentry for a heart on my previous comment. Like other have said the love of time keeping machines and knives do certainly go together, at least for some people. I do not collect knives as I consider them to be tools to be used. I do have a modest wristwatch and pocket watch collection. This collection includes Omega Seamaster, 1960’s Omega square in 18k, 1930,s and 40’s Hamilton’s, Bulova’s and Elgin’s. I also have my grandfather’s Elgin and my great-grandfather’s Illinois.
My wife inherited her grandmother’s clock collection, which is museum quality. We had a clock that was not working correctly and I said I would take a look at it. My wife was shocked that I could work to clocks (no formal training) and actually fix them.

While I admire the bone handle, I think that it is a bit showy for EDC when you are dealing with the major Corporate Sector Companies. But like you I still use my pocket knife every day.
And like you I got that habit from my grandfather, an old gold miner. As I am now 83, that was a long time ago, but I can still see him using his very worn, but very sharp bone handle knife.
But I use two Victorinox knives. The standard McGiver style site alongside my pens, in a small pocket inside my leather satchel, but the most commonly used one is the 2-3 inch mini Victorinox which lives with my keys in a leather key wallet. I keep it razor sharp and while it lacks the tools on the Swiss Army Knife in my satchel it has got numerous computers and office equipment back in service over the last 60 years, because being attached to my keys it was always with me. As they used to say ---- The best knife in the world is the one you have with you. Phil.
Is it the Spartan or the tinker that you use? I have the corkscrew and have to admit the corkscrew is essential.
@@Fabianwew Fabian, I think my model Victorinox is called the Traveller and the corkscrew has been very handy when I was traveling interstate a lot and would buy a couple of bottles of wine to share with my technical support staff. I am Old School and I still like a cork in my bottle and it is surprising how many 4/5 star hotels don't have a bottle opener available.
But I can't check on the knife model because for the last 10 weeks I have been in the COVID 19 Intensive Care Ward of The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne Australia. When I was admitted the Nurse told me that the infection was very advanced and I had a maximum of two days to live. The next morning the Doctor in charge of the COVID Intensive Care Ward met with me to tell me that I would not last the day. He said that when I collapsed he would not permit the use of one of the very scarce respirators because I was 82 and it probably would not be effective. He then said that they would help me die as peacefully as possible. So I told him that the previous evening I had appointed my Solicitor as my Next of Kin because I didn't want any of my family involved. While that only took 30 seconds to say, and I said nothing else, my Solicitor, who is my closest personal friend has a notorious criminal profile that was the basis of a series of books on organised crime in Melbourne Australia and then became a TV series. I knew that the Doctor would Google my Solicitors name out of pure curiosity. Last Friday I became the last person remaining in Intensive Care in Melbourne so they moved me into a secure site. If I past the COVID test today I will be able to leave. Having failed more than 40 test during the last 10 weeks I am sitting on my bed tapping this out on my mobile phone to relieve the boredom.
But I am only alive today because I believed that by appointing my Solicitor as my Next of Kin that the Doctor in Charge would decide that just letting me die because I was 82 was not a good idea, because both he and Melbourne's largest Hospital could not only end up as front page national news, in the Rupert Murdoch owned local newspapers, but the Hospital could end up with a multi-million dollar legal problem. It doesn't matter if that is just fantasy, because what matters is that for the last 60 years I have "Made a living out of reading people's faces" (Kenny Rogers ---- The Gambler) and I played my last hand to win.
So hopefully I can now go home with a good bottle of Victorian Shiraz and a thick steak, and fish out the corkscrew on my Victorinox "Officer's Knife" to celebrate that I knew how to play the last hand of cards that Fate dealt me. So stay well. Phil.

wipe it down with acetone then a little shoe die from the grocery store. I have several Bark River knives and the come with an unfinished sheath. I actualy prefer to finish the sheath myself that way I get it done the way I want it. Another great video.
I recently added a Chris Reeve Mnandi in box elder to my EDC collection. Made in Idaho to Swiss watch standards, it is a knife you will pass along to your grandchildren. Always a great video, keep them coming TGV you never let us down.

Really nice video. I saw one of these in the local hardware store recently and absolutely fell in love with it. There is just something about Case knives, they are the perfect match of art and function much like a Timex. I have several that belonged to my grandfather, I am actually giving my son one of them for his college graduation.

...alright, I am s knife guy who also likes watches, not the other way around, but I wouldn’t recommend case knives for daily carry unless you are pretty well versed in what you are getting. They will not come very sharp, and they will need to be sharpened pretty frequently. I like Case knives, but they are an acquired taste. If you are more used to modern style or materials, you should go with the newer “modern” slipjoints that lionsteel is offering. They are much more precisely made, and easier tp take care of for most people. If you really want to go traditional, then Great Eastern Cutlery makes them a bit better than Case, and for not much more money. They will however be a bit harder to get, and a bit more expensive.
And if you really want to dive into the high-end blades, then you can get into something like a Chris Reeve or Hinderer. Do NOT recommend unless you know what you are getting into though.
My watch collection is neck and neck with my knife collection. My next bespoke knife hails from the States via Africa. It is called a CHRIS REEVE MNANDI. Take a moment to look it up, although on the pricier side, the craftsmanship is second to none. Onward and upward TGV!

TGV, if you are looking for a good middle ground between a traditional knife and an assisted open, I highly recommend the Case “Kickstart” mid-folding hunter.

I'm a fan of the Kershaw Skyline with a damascus steel blade myself. Tough, holds an edge well, understated, functional.
Enjoyed your video tremendously - you do not need an elaborate intro every time. They are fun, but you do so well without! Also like the little 'eraser knife' in the beginning on your desk. Use one like this still today to erase my fountain pen mistakes on paper.
I also like the Swiss Army Knife line. I keep a SAK Classic SD on a lanyard around my neck. It’s the first thing I put on and the last thing I take off every day.
My son got me the Benchmade Proper gentlemen’s knife. It is my favorite knife I’ve ever had.

i have been into pocket knives much longer than watches and own and love case brand knives. many of the other brands you showcased of this video have begun to manufacture their knives overseas whereas case is competitively priced and still made in bradford pa. never really connected with the russlock, really like the copperlock model. perfect size, lockback, and purposeful blade shape

Knives aren't for defense, a knife is a tool. For self defense, carry a taser, pepper spray, baton, or, best choice, a gun.

Jay hasn't mentioned or doesn't know the full details of knife laws here in the UK (I carry a knife with me daily as a wonderfully useful tool). You are absolutely allowed to carry ANY knife if you have a reasonable and obvious reason to do so (you are out hunting for example). If not, you can still carry a folding knife under a specific length, fulfilling any possible day to day needs you could ever want a knife for.
There is no justifiable reason to argue against those laws, except for those who want to do others harm (they're terrible self-defense weapons). Those proclaiming tyranny whenever they are prevented from doing WHATEVER they want, fail to understand how peaceful societies function. Our laws are analogous with those in practically every other western society, bar the US, which is hardly the most peaceful society to aspire to follow (see relative murder rates, violent crime rates, incarceration statistics, etc.)!

Nice to see a TGV pocketknife video again. I would recommend the Chris Reeves small sebenza. They are extremely expensive but it has become the only knife I use.

Nice job of enlightening your viewers about the benefits of an EDC knife. If I could suggest -- I encourage you to always mention the importance of a lockable blade when considering an EDC knife. A lockable blade that can't fold down and slash fingers is a vital feature that is often not considered when buying a small blade for everyday use.

I love case knives case and SAK are my most carried since they are UK legal, I have a trapper in the same jig pattern but instead of having a second spear blade it had a bottle opener
I have a slightly big collection of knives, most are multiple Opinels No. 8’s with different woods for the handle, one of them being vintage from the 1980s. But usually I will grab the Victorinox Super Tinker, my childhood watching MacGyver got me into these. Also been carrying lately, a rarity in the States, the Kizlyar Scout, made in Russia. For a simple folding knife, it does the job when I need a larger knife. Also really enjoy the Morakniv Basic 511, a great, budget friendly utility knife from Sweden. The blade stays wicked sharp with whatever you throw at it. I use it mainly now for cooking.
I carry a Kizer WPK, simply to comply with german knife laws and the action is so fidgetable 👍 highly recommend it!

Oh my, knife collecting can get as deep as horology. Read up on the steel, as higher end knives boast better grades of it.
A serious knife collector would have a Sebenza by Chris Reeve. Definitely look into that first.

I know you’re into history, so you want to find knives made in Solingen, Germany and Seki City, Japan. These cities have a very long history of blade making. Böker is based in Solingen, and Kai (owner of Kershaw) is from Seki City.

Two knives have sprung to mind that would undoubtedly compliment your conservative yet functional tastes and are indeed things of beauty.
I. The Spyderco Chaparral with its sub 3inch slither thin, CTX-XHP spine lock blade that comes with your choice of carbon fibre or titanium scales. Seriously one of the sharpest knives out of the box I've ever come across!
2. Spyderco Dragonfly with a rare choice of either black or blue Nishijin scales. Again, this is another sub 3 inch folder of which the blade is made of ZDP-189 steel that you'll never need to sharpen. These scales must be seen to be believed!
These knives will even have your wife drooling at the bit! Lol.....
Knives are cool and very useful tools. From opening packages and boxes to peeling cucumbers, as my dad used to do with his trusty Persian , Zanjan knife. Cheers 🥂
Spyderco Delica 4 is my favorite. It locks up so solid, great ergonomics, VG10 steel, patented thumbhole, best EDC knife IMO.
Very nice video. For every day use, I prefer a knife with a pocket clip so the knife doesn't fall to the bottom of my pocket. Wish Case made more with clips.
Osborne 940 by Benchmade has been my EDC for some time. Becoming a true classic!

My dad collected antique penknives - he had a whole draw full of them when I was a kid, bone handles, Sheffield steel, all different sizes from tiddlers the size of my little finger to great big tools....... my mum sold the lot after he passed! Aargh!

Case makes very nice and affordable functional knives. Another great EDC knife is the Benchmade Proper pocket knife. It is made of high quality S30v stainless steel. It is a manual opening, sub 3 in folding knife.
Opinel No. 08 pocket knife should suit your heritage. best little knife
My favorite EDC carry knives are:
For casual and outdoor it would be the SOG Trident Mini tanto-style (non-serrated). Love this knife and the brand.
For work/dress I carry a Laguiole en Aubrac with juniper wood handle.
When I travel I like to find a locally made traditional knife.

For a sub $60 knife I would recommend kershaw cryo. It's a shorter slightly beefer knife than the leek but still has the spring assist opening. I currently edc the benchmade bugout. Will be modding it with custom scales soon!

Look at the vintage Almar Gunstock folder. They have a fixed blade version as well. The very best folder with a unique leather sheath.
I got a case knife as a groomsman gift and it sparked the interest a long time ago. For a gentleman’s knife I would look no further then Enrique Peña his designs are so classic but with a modern touch! If you can’t afford his custom selection his x-series is bigger batches of his customs at more affordable price! Cheers!
