- Fans were surprised to see Varada Sethu, already announced as a new companion for Season 2 of Doctor Who appear in the 3rd episode of the 1st season.
Can the shows past give clues to explain this appearance?

Varada's character's full name is Mundy Flynn, you hear it when James dies
Ahhhh must have missed that.
Before playing Adeola Freema Agyeman had auditioned for a part in The Christmas Invasion, was considered, but they went with somebody else.
I also didn't register that the actor play8ing Mundy was the one who had been announced as a future companion.
Glad I wasn’t completely alone in missing it when watching it 😄
i hope varada s new character (belinda)is an ancestor of mundy or maybe is an alien with the same face as mundy for some reason,i hope russell has an original idea for varada sethu reappearing as a different character
Maybe they’ll give her the same surname.
The actress playing the second Romana played a character that the first Romana met (Princess Astra - The Armageddon Factor) and then decided to regenerate into (I mean decided to regenerate into a form identical to Astra - somehow Romana could control her regenerations). I’ve slightly been wondering if this is what might happen. I think I read somewhere that Mundy’s story is finished. But this is probably a half-baked theory!
I did have an earlier theory that Ruby would regenerate INTO Varada. Is that what you meant? I had a video on that a few months ago but i think it’s been stated that they’ll be on the TARDIS together so maybe not.
Yes, that is what I meant. I’m sorry, I’d completely forgotten about your earlier video. I also meant to say that I also missed that it was Varada Sethu playing Mundy when watching the episode.
I think she’s going to be a different character in season 2, but with a throwaway line to explain it
Yeah that’s probably the most likely.
Mundy is Mundy Flynn in "Boom", but maybe, if she's somehow the same character that turns up in S2, she takes on Mundy as a surname, if that's what you mean? I'm leaning towards the S2 character being a different character entirely. Maybe they'll make her look different enough, they won't need an explanation for the likeness, I dunno.
I completely missed/forgot she was ever referred to by two names 🤦♂️
I don't know why no one is talking about the fact that the first companion is Ruby Sunday, and the next companion has a character called Mundy. What comes after Sunday? Mundy. But not even WhoCulture noticed.
So should we expect a season 3 companion called Tuesday do you think? 😃
I'm all for it!
Classic Who had returning actors playing different characters. Peter Purves, played an American tourist in part 1 of "The Chase". Then he was cast as Stephen. Jacqueline Hill even returned in Meglos.
Yes it did. And Nicolas Courtney was a different character before he was. The Brigadier too.
I find it quite funny that Peter put us was two different characters in the SAME story 😄
I genuinely am deciding to trust RTD this one time when he said she will not be coming back as Mundy.. I don't know if that's me being stupid but I just thought he was being honest in the commentary for the boom episode🤣
Rule 1: The Doctor… and Showrunners, lie 😄
@@CulturePhilter I know :O How dare I believe them haha
Caecilius is pronounced like "Kai-silly-iss"
Thank you 😊
They do this a lot in Casualty too 😄
They do indeed. In a lot of soaps as well.
Go the Freeman/Gillan route.
I suspect that’s the most likely
Never heard of this woman, so I had no hope of "recognising" her😂😂😂
She looked a lot older in Boom. Her character arc was the weakest part of the episode, so I hope it's not the same character.
I’ve seen her in Star Wars Andor.
I think a lot of people from her images accompanying her announcement as the next companion assumed she was early 20s but she’s actually in her mid 30s I think. (Not that that’s old I hastily add as someone in their late 30s)
I hope it’s just the same character returning, because the clunky and unnecessary explanations for repeat castings in NuWho annoy me. Especially as they don’t apply it to the numerous background artists you see in multiple episodes. The irony is the one time it really needed explaining (14th Doctor),it was fumbled and confused. The classic series never felt the need to ‘explain’ why Peter Miles, Philip Madoc and Michael Wisher for example appeared multiple times across time and space.
I think the throw away line ones are fine. They don’t really interrupt the story for it and I’d rather they do that than not use an actor because they’ve used them before.
