Easy Manicotti Recipe

- This classic Manicotti recipe is creamy, perfectly cheesy, and full of Italian flavors. It is a delicious and easy main dish to serve at family dinners and is leftovers-friendly! Manicotti, or “little sleeves” in Italian, is a staple on most Italian restaurant menus. The signature manicotti filling is a mouth-watering cheese mixture of ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan that gets stuffed into tube-shaped noodles, smothered in marinara sauce, and baked to perfection in the oven. It is traditionally made vegetarian, but you can add browned Italian sausage to the filling if desired.

Many years ago before college I worked in an Italian restaurant, and I asked them what they put in their ricotta cheese filling that was so good. Their secret was a spoonful of sugar. Ever since then I’ve made my ricotta filling with a bit of sugar, and it is so delicious. It doesn’t taste sweet or anything because you don’t put in that much, but it really brings out the flavor.
Thanks for the tip!💋
Thank you for your tip! I'll be cooking with ricotta for my exam, I hope this really brings it all up!
Try some ricotta with sugar - more than a pinch - and vanilla. It's a quick and heavenly dessert
@@eha440 I used vanilla in a lot of dishes, both salty and sweet. Vanilla is awesome. For one of my exams I made Vanilla chicken in vanilla/curry/rhum sauce, with orange gel and goat cheese gel, with rosemary basmati rice. Vegan version for me - chickpeas in vanilla. Delicious!
@@avatarwormette sounds soooo good 🥺
Hiya John! Did you know that you do *not* have to actually boil the cannelloni (manicotti)? This also avoids the pasta splitting, sticking, collapsing, etc. Just fill the dry tubes, and the alla marinara will actually cook the pasta perfectly in the oven. Just make sure it's covered appropriately with the sauce, wrap in foil 350F for 50 min, remove foil and add cheese topping and let bake 10 more minutes, voila! 🥰
Thanks for this tip
@@Dentos19 you're most welcome! But I did have to edit to add the rest of my post (cooking time, etc) as it somehow disappeared? 😳
@@brittanyclairemay9803RUclips deletes comments all the time. It’s borderline ridiculous
This is the first video I’ve found where the Manicotti was boiled first 💕
This looks scrumptiddliumptious 🤤 thanks John 💛🫶🏻
What I like about this recipe is that the filling looks fluffy and not mushy and melty. I've tried a number of John's recipes and have not been disappointed once. I'm looking forward to trying this one soon and also looking forward to the new cookbook.
Perfect recipe for a Friday night dinner during Lent, Thank you 👌
Another winner of a recipe! Thanks John!
Very nice recipie John! They looks amazing! Have a nice day and good week! 👍👏🍴
Can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
You always make the recipes so easy to follow and include substitutions that are so helpful. Coincidentally I made crepes this morning and was looking for a great savory crepe recipe. But your original recipe looks amazing and I will try it. Thank you so much John.
My mother always made her own crepes to make manicotti. We'd make a day of it and freeze it (without the sauce but filled) in batches. Easy peasy then in the future to take out, add sauce and some cheese on top and eat!
Oh, that sounds fabulous. Love this idea.
My my mother, my sister, and I still make our own crepes to make our manicotti
My mother-in-law always made her own crepes too. Amazing!
This is something that unless you are Italian, I don't think you know about. Post your recipe for the crepes as I think it may be different than the French version. I bet a lot of people would like to try this.
My Nana made it with crepes as well
Definitely have to do this, yummy❤
Tried it today. Came out super delicious. Thank you❤❤❤❤
I made your recipe today and added sweet Italian sausage in the filling. It was a big hit with my family. Thanks John!
Wow! Thank you for the quick and easy recipe. I love it! My favorite 😍🙌🏼
Can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you so much for sharing this. 💯👍❤️🌹💋
You are making me hungry! I used to make manicotti regularly. This probably needs to get back into the regular recipe list for us.
Found some manicotti at TJ Maxx that were half the size of the ones in your video but I filled them and layered them in a pan like a manicotti/lasagna hybrid - so good! 🔥😊
Haven't made these in years. I like to add some cooked and crumbled Italian sausage to the filling. That's what is cool about this recipe. It's so easy to add what you like.
Yes!! Thank you!
I’m asking for your cookbook for my May birthday 🥳
Now I want some. It’s been so long since I’ve made them.
Thank you ❤
Looks so good ❤
This is one of my faves and this recipe looks perfect!
This looks SO good. You are a fantastic cook.

A yummy dish. Thank you!
Oh John, this looks yummmylicious! I’m totally envious of your range and now your mixing bowl 😃 I have a smaller one, use for everything
Brian and the boys are so lucky to have such an excellent cook/shef
I love the bloopers. I miss the "shove" across the island counter. This guy's a hoot. Almost cooked manicotti a few days ago; did Not know how. Well... next time!🥣.
How? They need a mom. It's sad actually
You spelled chef wrong it’s chef not shef
@@kellenconverySounds as if an animation character. No biggie
@@R.Akerman-oz1tf oh shut up
Never thought to use a piping bag to fill the manicotti. That is a great idea. The hassle of filling them with a spoon is why I rarely make them.
Thank you so much friend your recipes never disappoint me is always a HIT many thanks ND bless your family much much appreciated everything you do
Your recipes are amazing
I love manicotti and yours looked great. The one thing that I like better than the pasta shells are making homemade crepes for the Manicotti. It really brings it to another level of deliciousness. ❤😊
Looks delicious John!
I made this with bolognese instead of marinara sauce and it was amazing🤩, my new favorite lasagna recipe.
A little fresh grated nutmeg would be a delicious addition or lemon zest. I make something similar to this recipe (I'm in Australia) instead of fussing with pre boiling pasta and using a piping bag, I use fresh lasagna sheets and wrap around the filling. Any leftover fresh pasta trimmings freeze and can be tossed into soups and casseroles at a later date.
What a nice recipe .my late mother used to make lasagna with mince meat fillings on spacial occasions .
Very nice 👌
This a delicious and appetizing manicotti recipe, thank you for this awesome recipe❤❤❤❤
looks so good!!!!!
This looks awesome
Use finely diced shrimp and broccoli in the filling with an alfredo sauce, so good!
❤ sounds like a great dish for a second anniversary that with a Greek salad 🥗 for a Greek boyfriend. How’s the farming coming along? You have a beautiful family. I love your recipes and videos. The year of 2024 I want to conquer bread. 🍞 My cat 🐈⬛ Mr. Thackery Binx bought me a Swedish Askercrum (spelled wrong) mixer for Christmas 🎄. Isn’t he an amazing cat? 🐈⬛
Your cats name is the best 😂

Delish as always, thank you.
Looks great I’m making it this week just got all the ingredients🥳

Yum. Haven't made in several years. I think it's time to make them again 😊
Really delicious.
I need to try this 😋
Looks fantastic 😋😋😋😋‼️‼️
I have had a box of manicotti in my pantry for....too long! Time to use it! Thank you for the inspiration and recipe!
Great video John😊😊
So nice
Thanks alot
Fantastic
Oh my gosh I NEED some now!!! Lucky I can get Polly-O ricotta at my work. It's the best brand
Yummy!!
Funny, I just bought some manicotti pasta to try my hand at making it. It was meant to be 😀lol. Thank you for all your delicious recipes and walking us through them. Take care John.
I like to put smoked pulled pork in there adds a nice flavor
Add some nutmeg to your ricotta filling! My nonna taught me this 😍
Yum. My problem with manicotti or stuffed shells is that anytime I've made [it] the filling has been too bland. I like the idea of adding, i.e., seasoned ground turkey, to the filling. Don't know why I have not considered this in the past. Much appreciated suggestion. Looks wonderfully delicious!!
I've made it with spinach and prosciutto and it was really good
You aren't seasoning enough. Garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, basil, crushed red pepper, tons of freshly grated parmesan.
It’s so preppy in here
How are you so thin? You recipes are insanely delicious, and your videos make us all four star chefs ❤ I’ll be trying this tomorrow
This has always been one of my favorite pasta dishes. Thanks for sharing
You eat like I do on the 1st bite 😋 with my eyes closed 😀 enjoying & savoring the flavors 😋 hehehe 😋
I looks very delicious.
Actually making manicotti for this coming Easter 🐣 I make my own shells from scratch, I’m Sicilian…..it’s in my blood 😊lol.
You can also stuff large shell pasta in the same way. Btw, love that large bowl you were mixing the ricotta in, is it vintage?? It’s beautiful. I have a large collection of over 40 vintage bowls in my kitchen…..yep, I have a problem 😂lol.
Nice, never seen shells from scratch that sounds amazing
@@jeanineskitchen2607 , I grew up with my mom making homemade manicotti shells, never had store bought shells. It’s a pretty easy recipe, flour water and egg. Like a very thin pancake batter. Pour small amount in small heated greased iron skillet. They are almost like a very thin crepe. Cool on rack, then fill with ricotta mixture down the center of the flat shell…..then roll up into a tube. Place in pan, cover with sauce. Place pan in 350 oven for about 30 minutes, so soft and cheesy 😋 yummy.
Hello John 👋 😊
Hi John!! My long distance boyfriend’s favourite food is burgers and i’m visiting him for his birthday coming up.. would you have a sesame seed bun recipe to share with us? You’re the best!! Been baking so much recently and you’ve taught me so much :)❤️
Udah di coba
When i have a few leftover i make a single or double serving in a disposable oven tray and freeze it. I can then give it as a gift for a senior or a new Mom etc. 😊

I’d love if you made some manicotti with cream chicken and artichoke
Don't compromise on this one guys. Phil Leotardo did for 20 years and he hated it. Enjoy.
I made your turtle cheesecake recipe yesterday, turned out pretty damn good
Hello
I learned the pastry bag trick years ago after suffering many broken manicotti tubes.
cool
Hi John, my name is Kelbis . Can you show us how to make Cuban croquetas. Thanks
Hi are u mixing in some Parmesan in with the filling,I’ve put some garlic and Italian herbs in the mix can you advise please👍
The manicotti that don’t make it into the baking dish, get eaten while the rest is in the oven! Deconstructed manicotti chefs treat.
Yumm, do you make you're own marinera sauce?
Is there any way you could make japanese soufflé pancakes ???
I have really bad gut issues and can’t eat any of this anymore but I love torturing myself watching these videos, ha 😢 I also LOVE your kitchen.
Hey John! Can you please make churros with air fryer? Thanks
That looks delicious. How many will that feed?
I would say it would serve 4 with a nice salad

Hi from Missouri! Question, is it really necessary to pre-heat an oven and if so, why? Just curious. Thank you!!!!! 🙂
Always pre heat the oven you get a more even bake, this applies to cakes as well
Italian enchiladas.
Phil would've loved this in the can.
