    Interesting that some comments got deleted over the past day.... nevertheless, this was super helpful for me! thought i was going to spend quite a lot but in the end, it was as simple as you explained. Definitely a part that you have to keep an eye out on high mileage VANOS systems

    I changed my solenoids, and it didn't solve the problem. I changed the Vanos check valves on the right side of the engine and fixed it! Perhaps you could do a video on that, Dr. Dean? That seems to be a highly overlooked and cheap component to replace and solve ppl's problems.

      He’s actually made many videos on the check valves, for example this linked video he says “If you’ve replaced your vanos solenoids and still have the check engine light, you likely need to clean your check valves..” Starts around 13 minute mark: ruclips.net/video/AF5Z5nSTR7s/видео.html

    I keep seeing these Vanos Solenoids needing to be replaced when the motor is not running well or in limp mode. I'm experiencing very poor fuel mileage 12.5 mpg city and occasional misfires (per the codes) and no shortage of power and generally a pretty good/stable idle (considering its a 210,000 mile motor). Might my Solenoids be stuck in a different position allowing a pretty decent (but very inefficient) running situation? or should I be looking elsewhere to fix my bad mpg

    I changed the solenoid seals on my N46 engine and since then I've got codes p0012 and p0015 (over reatarded intake and exhaust) and the car idles roughly and stalls when I slow down. I don't know what I did wrong because the solenoids were working fine before.

    Hi, wondering if you can help.
    I attempted changing mine one goes in without a problem whilst the other one being stuck halfway and wouldn’t budge .
    Tried lubricating it all up with oil but still nothing .
    Any advice on what I could do to smoothly get it in.
    It Jams at half way twists but doesn’t
    Do anything then requires a lot of
    Pulling to yank it out been at it for hours.

    What fault codes did you get for that fault? Ami, I get p0012 and p2a82 and the 4x4 doesn't work for me either, but I don't get any code from that, only the 4x4 witness on the dashboard. any advice?

    • @BMWDoctor

      You can use pierburg or febi ones I don’t think it will matter as they are both good brands. I only go full bmw ones because I know I won’t have any issues guaranteed. But you don’t have too it all depends on you and how you want to maintain your car.

    Do you really mean "Replacing your Vanos Solenoids Will Make Your BMWS Vanos Last Forever !!" 😄 Regular changing your oil would make it last much longer, I don't think there is any point replacing something that isn't broken. Those solenoids are pretty much bullet proof and clog up with mucky oil more than anything. A quick spray with Brake or WD cleaner means you don't need to remortgage and buy new ones.

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  Год назад

      I didn’t remortgage for nothing and if your saying about a remortgage for new ones you must be very cheap yourself. As new ones from bmw direct are around £300 so how is that a mortgage ? That’s like cheap change luckily for me I Got them on trade so for me the costs are low very low. And I replace all parts that ain’t broken that’s why I don’t have problems as I don’t wait for a problem to arise just to change it then. This engine is spotless with full history so that’s why the others one was fine, but I’m OCD and I have the money to put to the car so not a issue for me

    • @arnolduk123
      @arnolduk123 Год назад

      @@BMWDoctor Not having a dig at you, only saying that £300 is not something I want to throw at my car on the whim that it might fail. The Vanos has a fail safe mode anyway and In my experience whenever I change anything something else decides to fail, so you'd be chucking parts at non-stop. Something new is as likely to fail as something old. The old saying "if it aint broke dont fix it" is usually a smart thing to do. BTW Dean, I like most of your videos and I'm suscribed to and Nathan's channels.

    • @BMWDoctor
      @BMWDoctor  Год назад

      No mate it’s fine not even a problem. Just I know what you mean that’s why they need overhauling as you know you can’t just replace one thing and leave it on bmw as then everything starts to fail! That’s why I get it all done in one go and finish it so I can drive it peacefully 😅

      I have indeed my friend boredom lol thats why I do these car's otherwise i would be twiddling my fingers. I love to invest money into car's don't ask me why I'm just OCD MY WIFE HATES IT !! I see a poorly looked after bmw and I want it as I know it needs money and I want to restore it it also keeps me busy and I'm my workshop everyday for 11hours daily so its a win win for me. but bear in mind I don't get rid of any of them as I know nobody will look after them the way I do so thats why I just keep them once I'm finished as I don't need the money. unless someone comes to me and says they will look after it the way I do, then I wont be selling it and I know nobody can do that. same thing with my Porsche I bought it as I know it needed a lot of work and people don't want to invest that money into any car these days I hate people like that as I love people who put every penny into the cars :) its rare to find but I know there is my people out there I put 4k into my Porsche doing everything now it sits in my garage looking pretty :) but find me another Porsche 987 that you can just jump in and drive and not have to worry again you cant same with bmw all my bmws I can just jump in and drive and not have to worry about anything breaking but it does get boring after a while I need to look for other cars now man
