This was great! One of my favorite speeches by Sojourner Truth who had an unshakeable, fervent, rock solid belief in the Living God and that God would help her when no man would - and He did! What a great woman of faith! What a blessed soul! What a WOMAN!!!!
Thank you for delivering the speech in this manner and not that strange southern dialect Francis Gage re-wrote the speech in 1863....years after it's original delivery in 1851.
Cassandra - Exactly! Especially since Dutch was Sojourner Truth's first language, English her second, and she came from New Paltz and Kingston, NY - NOT the south!
*hi Sojourner Truth! * I was introduced to Sojourner Truth when I was about 10. Forty eight years ago and she keeps showing up all over my life. And now she's here on RUclips which I just discovered myself in January. We're from Michigan.
All these people complaining about how inaccurate this is You know what? I'm just glad that Sojourner Truth's speech is still remembered well enough to be argued about and listened to.
@@renzellousbrown9047 Hearing it from the source would of course be the best but seeing as we only have access to the documentation of her speech It's quite lucky that her point wasn't lost or altered as people spread the word
It's a great speech, but most historians say these words were not hers at all. A version of her real speech appeared in print in 1851. I'd like to hear someone dramatise that actual speech.
The performance here was good, for sure. And it should be read and heard and inspire women. It is true, unfortunately, that this isn't what she actually said. It is a case of a white man trampling over a woman of color. It wasn't the first and we know how often it's happened since that. Sojourner Truth wasn't from the south-southwest she didn't talk like that. She was from New York and grew up speaking Dutch as her first language. Plus she had 5 children, not 13, and 1 sold into slavery- and she got him back. She is one of my heroes since childhood. ❤️😍
"she was born and raised in New York, and spoke only Dutch until she was nine years old." - wiki Yeah, this reading is not at all historically accurate.
Love her but unfortunately she is not reciting the correct Sojourner Truth's 1851 Aint I a woman speech. This IS NOT Sojourner Truth’s speech. This is Francis Gage’s 1863 speech. Gage was a privileged white woman who published this speech under Sojourner Truth's name. Hear Sojourner's original and historically correct 1851 speech at @t .Dutch was Sojourner's first language and she never had a southern accent. While this performance of Francis Gage's 1863 speech ( based on Sojourner's authentic 1851 speech) is indeed a great performance, it is an inaccurate portrayal of Sojourner's words and her authentic Dutch heritage. Please visit @t to hear Sojourner's original authentic speech in an Afro Dutch accent.
Ahhh...this is awesome people...just awesome. You guys check out my poem I wrote and copied myself performing. my inspiration actually came from Sojourner Truth's "Aint I a Woman", but mine is called "Ain't I black"
Political spin in poetic form, not an ounce of actual conversation. It reminds me no wait its the same as comedic spin. if you have intellect, you can read between the lines of BS
I think you may have misheard. She said that Jesus (the son of God) came "from God and a woman" and that man (read as: male humans) "had nothin' to do with it."
I think your brain is cream cheese. Maybe you should read some history, and look at the range and variety of human bodies, male and female, from all parts of the world. Educate yourself. And then think what you want to expose about yourself before you make a statement.
Sojourner Truth was the TRUTH!!! Ain't I A Woman!!!! great delivery!
no

Well, this is actually the Gage version, in which Truth says "thing in the head" and that she has 1 children."
Kind of annoying when she did not have a southern accent at all. Her first language was Dutch.

Thank you my dear sister. Thank you so much.
It’s crazy how this speech is an in accurate version of her original speech
Great delivery! I love the sass and attitude you brought to it.

I've never heard these "truths" before. I had to sign in and comment! Can you hear my applause? Absolutely excellent delivery!
Gage said when she said "Ain't I a woman" it sounded like a rolling thunder. AINT IIIIIIIIIIIIII A WOMANNNNN
Awesome. You rocked this speech! Thank you for giving me a great resource for teaching about Sojourner Truth!

I love this speech. She speaks the truth!
How did she come up with this? It’s amazing
There isn't much talk of race in my home country, but there is a lot of talk of gender discrimination. I was very impressed with your speech.
get em girll
i could use this for my speech festival

men do natuarally come from the whom of women indeed but where do women come from? weren't women made from the ribs of a man?
Juan sarabia Yes, but the point of that statement was that Jesus was not created by man and woman.
Ultimately lifeless because it's absurdly over-rehearsed and 'scripted'
God did not come from a woman
I think you may have misheard. She said that Jesus (the son of God) came "from God and a woman" and that man (read as: male humans) "had nothin' to do with it."
Actually she wasn't a woman. She was a man in drag. They all are. Even susan B. Anthony was a dude. Take a hard look at them.
Really dude?
@@Michelle-pn9xt Look at her. Really look at her...its a man in drag...yes even back then.
