Yes, very sad. Tonight for some reason I decided to binge on Ranking Roger and The Beat videos and came across the shocking news that Morton had also passed away. People usually remember & talk about Roger and Saxa but forget that Morton was the man who put The "Beat" in The Beat. His caribbean style and polyrythms gave them a different style to the other bands at the time. I'm not sure when this program is from, it looks to me from the early 2000's.
Met Saxa when The Beat came back together and played The Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath... such a lovely night, so memorable.. great to have a brief chat with your Grandad and to tell him thanx for the tunes.
Heartbreaking when I see this. One of my favorite bands will never be again…… Met Roger in SF in ‘93 & Dave W up here when he did a gig in Nevada City. Still would’ve loved to see the whole band together again. 💔
Real shame they never got the original line-up back together,to late now.....god bless you ranking roger and saxa thankyou for some great tunes. The beat were a great band and the music will live on.
Love it.. 🎶It was a shame the last 2 members didn't show, but the 4 that did was great, nice to see them blend together perfectly again. Very sad about saxa, and especially Roger at a young age of 56 passing.. Rest easy gentlemen 🙏🎶 1 love ✌️🎶
RIP Saxa, Roger & Everett such a shock to learn about their passing only now 😥
that was heavy; I really enjoyed seeing the band together yet ashamed they could not put aside their differences being saxa was only here a short time. God bless saxa. that was their last chance to play as one again.
Years ago I did merch for a Neville Staples tour, the first night the band had guests Roger and his son plus Roddy from the Specials on board. The energy in the room was so great every night Neville played it was addictive. This is a fantastic series, I wish it was still going.
It’s sad to think that greed finished off one of the great British ska bands. The Beat were an incredible live experience, it’s such a shame that you couldn’t pull them together for one last performance. Saxa, was a fantastic musician and an incredible role model. Rest in peace, big man! 💔
Thats not the way Dave Wakeling explained it . Most of the original Beat had had it and didn't want to tour anymore while Dave and Roger had new young family to support and they wanted to tour . They were all pretty young at the time.Others in the Beat were older .
Such a great group - I get to see the beat pretty often @ the magic bag in Ferndale MI. Wakeling is a sweetheart , such a nice friendly fellow Sooooo damn good n concert - sound the same if not better ... it’s crazy it’s like the clock stopped Dave looks the same !
I saw the English Beat (Dave with Ranking Junior) tonight in Baltimore. They were awesome, as was the band they're touring with. Catch them on the Retro Futura Tour with some other great bands (including Howard Jones) if you can.
I’m going to the show march 17th in Orlando. I wasn’t even born when beat formed I got into general public when I’ll take you there came out later back in the vh1 days in the 90’s but since then loved both groups very sad how many members have died and I wish Andy and shuffle would tour with Dave 1 more time cause you never know when their time will come facts
Well thank you for sharing this. My wife and I are going to go see The English Beat tonight at The Rose in Pasadena, California. Looking forward to this.
They were supporting Bowie in Milton Keynes during the 'Serious Moonlight' gigs. They split shortly after that. Icehouse were also on that bill. It was a long day by the time Bowie arrived on stage.
I’m so excited I’m seeing them play in Richmond this Sunday! My 19 year old daughter likes them too so we’re going together. First concert together and I couldn’t be more stoked then it being at The Beat concert!
I always figure that Andy Cox and David Steele would do the reunion is because they found out they were out of the English Beat in a trade paper. Dave and Roger broke up the band and didn't even tell them face to face....I wouldn't be bother with them either.
These guy's are the real deal with no bs true to there word's and so down to earth and common propper true brummies love these guy's rest in peace to the fallen member's.
I grew up in foster care and recently embarked upon a quest to find my biological family and found out my dad was a musician and was good friends with Saxa
I love this series of 'Bands Reunited' and, especially this one as The Beat are a huge influence on me and I still have loads of 7" and 12" singles and albums. I didn't realise, though, that Dave is right handed but plays left handed guitar and, Everett is left handed, but plays right handed drums!
i remember when this episode aired on vh1 classic and i was very disappointed by that cox and steele didn't want to do it. that was nothing compared to the local dj at this hour retro radio show that i listened to as he was furious. he was so pissed if he got any requests for fine young cannibals, he would say no. for several months on that retro show, the fine young cannibals were banned all because of cox and steele's refusal to reunite the beat.
That's because Steele and Cox won't be in the same room with each other. I asked Dave about it, and he said they hadn't spoken to each other since the FYC broke up for good!
Just realized how important and great their music was/is. Too bad they made a bad decision but certainly good things came out of it, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS for example
Exactly right! Had the break up never happen, no FYC and no General Public. The tragic thing was no reform, they just couldn't act like adults, forgive, forget and move on. Andy Cox and Dave Steel 2 babies. The least they could have done it for Saxa if not the fans, the other members and themselves.
DAMN!! They don't even make good music like this anymore this is creative writing sound and musical vibe wow. RIP 👼 Saxa! Granddad's of Good SKA!!!! LoL 😂👍🏾 and Paul when he was with VZW! 😵😂👍🏾🙌
I own a guitar named “One Finger Wakeling”. It is permanently tuned in the legendary “Save It For Later” tuning Pete Townshend and David Gilmour could not decipher. 😉
It surprised me that Andy Cox and David Steele wouldn't talk to anybody - even if just to say "piss off wankers!" Always thought if David & Andy formed a band they'd name it Steele Cox or Cox of Steele The Beat Forever!!!
I saw Dave in Bath a a year 2 and a half years ago and asked about Andy and David. He said they haven't spoken to each other in over 25 years since FYC disbanded. Dave said he was going to have lunch with Andy in London, but no one's seen or heard from David in decades.
Is pointless to see them live now considering there is only one original member left? I was going to buy tickets for a show with squeeze in the fall, but now learning they all died, but one. I love this band and all the bands that came from it.
As of 2021 out of the 4 members who reunited here only Dave is living. R.I.P. to Saxa, Roger and Everett.
Yes, very sad. Tonight for some reason I decided to binge on Ranking Roger and The Beat videos and came across the shocking news that Morton had also passed away. People usually remember & talk about Roger and Saxa but forget that Morton was the man who put The "Beat" in The Beat. I'm not sure when this program is from, it looks to me from the early 2000's.
RIP indeed!
Wow. I wasn't aware of that. RIP to those guys. They were a tight band back in the day.
Aww i didnt realise 3 of the guys who showed up had died.so sad.rip. I was a fan of Roger.
I saw Roger and his son with the beat 4 years ago they were brilliant
My grandad was a legend and my hero sadly passed but never forgotten!! A fantastic musician! God bless x
Yes Elisha, your Grandad is a icone for us , his sound, his style... Saxa was a big part of my favourite Band. Cheers from France
Elisha Martin, hey cuz. Please contact me, ask Fran for my #. This is Lenny.
Met Saxa when The Beat came back together and played The Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath... such a lovely night, so memorable.. great to have a brief chat with your Grandad and to tell him thanx for the tunes.
Prophetfitzroy hi Lenny u ok ?
Papa Saxa, what a legend! sorry for your loss.
Rest in peace Saxa and Ranking Roger
Saw them many times. My favourite band of the whole two tone explosion back in '79 through the early '80s. R.I.P Roger, Everett and Saxa 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
They never released anything on Two Tone did they remember it was a record label
Heartbreaking when I see this. One of my favorite bands will never be again…… Met Roger in SF in ‘93 & Dave W up here when he did a gig in Nevada City. Still would’ve loved to see the whole band together again. 💔
Back in the early 00’s, I saw this episode and became a HUGE fan of the English Beat!!
Same here. I never heard about them before. After that a episode, a became a huge fan of the band.
Real shame they never got the original line-up back together,to late now.....god bless you ranking roger and saxa thankyou for some great tunes. The beat were a great band and the music will live on.
I love Roger's spirit and honesty.
Sad story, one of the best UK Groups of the 80's, Money changes everything.
Love it.. 🎶It was a shame the last 2 members didn't show, but the 4 that did was great, nice to see them blend together perfectly again.
Very sad about saxa, and especially Roger at a young age of 56 passing.. Rest easy gentlemen 🙏🎶
1 love ✌️🎶
The last 2 members heart were just not into the reunion.
RIP Saxa, RIP Roger. Never forgotten.
J'ai été très touché par la mort de papa Saxa. J'ai eu la chance de le rencontrer en 89 avec le groupe de Tony BEET. Son style restera et il ne sera pas oublié en France non plus. RIP
Greetings from America 🇺🇸
I too will always love THE ENGLISH BEAT ❤
Merci pour mettre ce vidéo en ligne. Très émue. C'était mon adolescence et je les écoute toujours 🙏🏽. RIP Saxa,
Roger & Everett such a shock to learn about their passing only now 😥
Class act, The Beat. Down to earth Brummies.
...too true, although you'd be pushed to find a Brummie that wasn't down to earth.
that was heavy; I really enjoyed seeing the band together yet ashamed they could not put aside their differences being saxa was only here a short time. God bless saxa. that was their last chance to play as one again.
Dave is the man, this guy is the real deal!!!!!!!!! Just saw them in Riverside, CA what a show!!!!!!
RIP Everett Morton, Saxa, and Ranking Roger. Everett Morton's smile was so warm and endearing.
Years ago I did merch for a Neville Staples tour, the first night the band had guests Roger and his son plus Roddy from the Specials on board. The energy in the room was so great every night Neville played it was addictive. This is a fantastic series, I wish it was still going.
gutted to hear saxa as died R i.P Lionel Augustus martin a loss to the ska community
TheCitroenman1 wow!!!!! Im watching this as I'm reading this .

Sooooo damn good n concert - sound the same if not better ... it’s crazy it’s like the clock stopped
Dave looks the same !
Love the way the team travel all over the world, and knock on doors. Love that guy so funny. It's also great to see bands from the 80's reunite.
I can't get used to this guy caling them "The English Beat", they were just plain "The Beat" when I knew them.
I saw the English Beat (Dave with Ranking Junior) tonight in Baltimore. They were awesome, as was the band they're touring with. Catch them on the Retro Futura Tour with some other great bands (including Howard Jones) if you can.
That was King Schascha, not Ranking Junior.
I’m going to the show march 17th in Orlando. Awww that was a great reunion. Playing at City Winery in NYC at the end of the month! Love it.
They were supporting Bowie in Milton Keynes during the 'Serious Moonlight' gigs. They split shortly after that. Icehouse were also on that bill. It was a long day by the time Bowie arrived on stage.

never got to see The Beat as they were in the beginning, did get to see General Public, and Dave's US band many times, and always good times
I saw the English Beat with Dave about 4 years ago and they were so fantastic still.
I always wondered why The Beat broke up. It never made sense to me before, but now I know.
I always figure that Andy Cox and David Steele would do the reunion is because they found out they were out of the English Beat in a trade paper. Dave and Roger broke up the band and didn't even tell them face to face....I wouldn't be bother with them either.

Just heard bout the death of the original sax player SAXA RIP 5/3/2017
I loved this show they should do another one even on a obscure channel

So sad they could not get the whole band together. RIP to all we lost Everett, Saxxa and Roger
Dave?! Why oh why did you screw The Beat up?! That 4th album would have been incredible!
Everett Morton. What a fucking great drummer. RIP. And thanks for the music.
well they reunited most of the band, in any event.
They sound fantastic.
1st time I've seen that, brilliant stuff. Shame they couldn't get the other 2 but still great to see the rest altogether
Really nice show. Great for a Sunday morning.
RIP Saxa :(
R.I.P grandad sleep tight see you on the other side xxx
Dance Craze was the greatest cinematic experience because the house were dancing in the aisles,it was a true party atmosphere
RIP Ranking Roger

That's because Steele and Cox won't be in the same room with each other. I asked Dave about it, and he said they hadn't spoken to each other since the FYC broke up for good!
A valiant attempt ... love it
1 love... Rest Easy, Roger! Be well Mate!
Just realized how important and great their music was/is. Too bad they made a bad decision but certainly good things came out of it, FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS for example

Great band that made international history.
RIP Saxa. Saw General Public in the late 80s in DC. one of Best show.
DAMN!! They don't even make good music like this anymore this is creative writing sound and musical vibe wow. RIP 👼 Saxa! Granddad's of Good SKA!!!! LoL 😂👍🏾 and Paul when he was with VZW! 😵😂👍🏾🙌
Whappen is one of the best albums ever.
The Beat were the best, but I can say as a musician, their songs are not easy to play, but they sure did it. The legacy lives on.
Weird tunings?
@@tonymolino7337 That, I never looked into. It's more about the tricky syncopation.
I own a guitar named “One Finger Wakeling”. It is permanently tuned in the legendary “Save It For Later” tuning Pete Townshend and David Gilmour could not decipher. 😉
Incredible band, so influential!
What a great voice Dave has and I didn’t realize it was Richard Blade of KROQ fm fame at beginning.
Brought tears to my eyes.Rip Saxa and Rodger
Saxa such a big presence.Great to see a partial reformation.
First show I see that not all members participated....great show!
When I saw the thumbnail image, I thought to myself, why is Bill Russell on Bands Reunited??
so great to see saxa playing
listen mate, i need to buy you a drink. all that you do is class mate
Great video! Thx!
The best group of guys ever!
So sad that they could not come together to show their unification views
It surprised me that Andy Cox and David Steele wouldn't talk to anybody - even if just to say "piss off wankers!"
Always thought if David & Andy formed a band they'd name it Steele Cox or Cox of Steele
The Beat Forever!!!
I saw Dave in Bath a a year 2 and a half years ago and asked about Andy and David. He said they haven't spoken to each other in over 25 years since FYC disbanded. Dave said he was going to have lunch with Andy in London, but no one's seen or heard from David in decades.
Such loved Andy cox and Steele combo contributions
Great band.
These guys makes jehovah's witnesses look like amatuers......Lov the music! Fight religion
I LOVE “The’BEAT”!
This show is crazy.
Is pointless to see them live now considering there is only one original member left? I was going to buy tickets for a show with squeeze in the fall, but now learning they all died, but one. I love this band and all the bands that came from it.
vhs guy you are class
That's Richard Blade with Dave at the beginning.
Cheers buddy!
Very bittersweet…
RIP Everett 😔
They're "the Beat"..., period!!! The San Francisco hand died and blew away into the wind so years ago, hardly anyone would remember who they were...
The English Beat ?
@laser325 or London, Ontario of The Canada.
Dave having lunch with Richard Blade formerly with KROQ and now Sirrus radio.
Love ska 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
RIP Saxa! 😭 x

When tbey show General Public play a quick second, nakea you wanna see the whole segment .
I heartily agree, @Gary Smith! I bought the 12 inch for Tenderness in London and I played it to death!
I'd probably sell my soul to the devil to have that signed album!
Saxa!!
Superb
Thank you for hiring a professional sound man.
Dave hasn’t changed since the 80s !
What year was this reunion? . Interesting to see so few people in the audience .
