Your jaw falls on the floor with Freddie King's total command of the guitar until you hear him sing. What divine gifts this man who left us so early possessed.
He was just as good as B. B. King and Albert King. The three kings. I grew up listening to all three and I love all three of them the same ❤️💙💕💙💕♥️. All three of the king's is gone but not forgotten and may their souls rest in peace and in God's loving arms around them.
So many great bluesmen who never got their due. One of my other favorite lesser known blues guitarists was Earl Hooker. Everyone knows John Lee Hooker but Earl Hooker was one smoking player!
i always wondered why Billy Cox was the baddest bassist that ever played for Jimi Hendrix, and now I can see where he got his chops, from hanging with these jammin geniuses of R&B!
+Rachel Cummings I've never heard of this show, love how the music used to be raw and real!,just found out about nightrain out of Nashville in 65. wow! i was only. when this was happening.
What’s incredible about this to me is there used to be tv shows just dedicated to music, I wish we still had that Flip thru the channels and randomly see Freddie king on one channel, another channel some no name local band that’s gonna blow up.
The Beat might be the greatest collection of pure music performance ever on tv without the crap (lip sync, etc). Just great legendary original artists that (let’s face it) everyone else copied
Happy New Year, Rachel! Thank you again for posting these. Thanks to seeing them here, I now have them all at home, thanks to Bear Family and Vestapol (for the Freddie King videos). The Beat! was the best music program ever, and it captured U.S. music near its peak. That's just my opinion.
Awesome post- will have to check them all out. Good thing they don't try to have shows with this caliper of raw talent nowadays as the show would only last about 5 minutes as today's talent pool is quite shallow along with the TV programming. Keep posting- be well.
Thank you so much for the kind comment :) going to upload another show that I can't find on here in a moment so please do drop by and see what you think of it?
Ainda bem que tem a Internet hoje em dia para mostrar ao mundo essas pérolas. Pena que eles partiram para outro plano. Mas deixaram um obra imortal. 😋😋😋
Several of these now-classic shows taped mostly on February 14 & 15, 1966. Each half-hour show must have taken 50 minutes to an hour to tape. The whole cast, house band and guest stars must have been in that studio anywhere from 8 to 10 hours making those consecutive episodes. Harder work than it appeared to the viewer.
Good call. I was noticing that many of these songs are edited together from multiple takes. The camera is always on the right soloist, which is much better than most ”libe" music shows of the time, which were lio-synced Nd often just one take.
Thank you for the comment, have you watched 'The Night Train'? I think it might be of interest to you, first show of its kind to have black music shows on air, hosted by Noble Blackwell.
Rachel Cummings Night Train? I'll have to look into that. I remember Soul Train with the magical Don Cornelius, that guy was the coolest dude on TV! I play guitar and Freddie King is one guy I absolutely love to listen to. He smokes on the guitar. I like Hoss Allen, he was one awesome MC. Thanks Rachel!
Rachel Cummings Thank you very much Rachel! I've been meaning to watch this but I've been very busy with my music. I play guitar in a church band plus I do my own stuff on the side. Hey have a great day!
JR Rosalez link is there when you have some free time to watch it. Have uploaded others and have noticed more Freddie King videos in the shows !! We've finally got some nice weather here (U.K) so going to make the most of it :) Have a wonderful day yourself. btw have you thought about doing some vids of yourself to put on yt?
Jimmy still plays every Tuesday night Carol Ann Nashville Murfreesboro Rd . still have a band he is my best friend my name is Frank Howard I song with the Commanders was a part of his show talk to him several times each month.
@@16_problems36 Hi Frank. Thank you so much for that information. Indeed , you were a big part of the show. I've watched all the shows. It was wonderful to see so many great artists perform. You are a fine singer and the Commanders were a vocal group with a lot of style. Jimmy Church came over as just loving the music and wanted to be involved. I am not surprised he is still singing and entertaining after all these years. Sadly, I won't be able to see him in Nashville, but you can tell him he has a fan in Scotland.
Your jaw falls on the floor with Freddie King's total command of the guitar until you hear him sing. What divine gifts this man who left us so early possessed.
Agreed. I've always thought he was the best male blues vocalist around.
Excelente voz y muy buen guitarrista Freddy King desde Chile 🇨🇱 escuchando ha este gran músico y los demás también excelentes 👏
Caught Freddie live in three occasions, without doubt one of the most exciting act ever.
He had that vocal...so damn powerful
A Blues TRUE Monster!🎸
He was just as good as B. B. King and Albert King. The three kings. I grew up listening to all three and I love all three of them the same ❤️💙💕💙💕♥️. All three of the king's is gone but not forgotten and may their souls rest in peace and in God's loving arms around them.
What a great show, the audio is amazing for its time, and the house band is incredible.I was to young when this first aired.
Phenomenal!!! 20th Century American music history!!!!!!
Freddy king...Gatemouth...and Billy Cox.....
I saw Freddie King with BB King in San Francisco around 1975 Freddie King was awesome
Wow
Good for you - two of the three "kings of the blues" on the same bill!
Nothing beats Freddie King!
I love all the Kings...BB, Albert, Earl King, but Freddie has to be my favorite! Great tone, twang, wonderful vocals...The Texas Cannonball!
So many great bluesmen who never got their due. One of my other favorite lesser known blues guitarists was Earl Hooker. Everyone knows John Lee Hooker but Earl Hooker was one smoking player!
Dig it, Earl King's "Lonely Nights" is one of my all time favorites
Check out Bobby King. He didn't record a lot, but The Chaser is not to be missed.
Freddie King COOKS, thanks for posting!
Holy Christ - this was a great show!
Now THIS is real Rhythm and Blues!
Fantastic. What a show. Authenic.
Why the hell they don't have good shows like this now I'll never know
Mr freddy King máster of masters👍👍👍👏🎸
This my friends is the Real deal.. Old school foundations of the inner soul.. you can can feel it.. Bless up!
I love those dresses the dancers are wearing, fine ladies dancing in them too.
Bring this show back! ❤
How great was Freddy King? Wow!
This all incredible irreplaceable stuff. But holy mother of god, Freddy King. Damn.
Oh... from an era where music and movies in the USA still meant something everywhere in the world. Sad it's gone.
i always wondered why Billy Cox was the baddest bassist that ever played for Jimi Hendrix, and now I can see where he got his chops, from hanging with these jammin geniuses of R&B!
Jimi and Billy were in a band in 1962. R&B band
I am like a kid in a candy store right now... WWOWOWOWOW thank you SO MUCH
+davidbspamboy Thank you David, glad your enjoying them :)
+Rachel Cummings I've never heard of this show, love how the music used to be raw and real!,just found out about nightrain out of Nashville in 65. wow! i was only. when this was happening.

+Rachel Cummings ON THIS SHOW AND NIGHTRAIN 1965 YOU WILL SEE BILLY COX ON BASS WHO PLAYED WITH JIMI HENDRIX BAND OF GYPSYS!!

This series is so good. Thank you Rachel.
Billy Cox on the bass backing Freddy King, I can barely believe it.
How did I make to 44 years old and just now finding out about this show? I have a lot to catch up on.
What’s incredible about this to me is there used to be tv shows just dedicated to music, I wish we still had that
Flip thru the channels and randomly see Freddie king on one channel, another channel some no name local band that’s gonna blow up.
Super-boss-tacular! This show is a goldmine.
Beyond incredible.
What a great show
The Beat is awesome , just found out about this show ,love it
Thank you for the Beat. Listened to The Hoss Allen on WLAC 1510 Nashville TN in the 50s and 60s.
You know, for a southern white man in the 1960s Hoss Allen was a hip cat.
Brilliant upload!
Clarence Gatemouth Brown on Rickenbacher...
The best ever
The Beat might be the greatest collection of pure music performance ever on tv without the crap (lip sync, etc). Just great legendary original artists that (let’s face it) everyone else copied
These are the coolest videos on RUclips.
I'd have walked 9 miles 30 years ago the watch a show like this.. My GOD what a killer voice!! I love to know who the piano guy is, he's incredible!!
This is sublime.
Nice piano player with Freddie!
Never saw this show on Seattle tv...brand new for me

Freddie King strangles those notes!

+dallaskenn yes, it sho is been there and done that,
Good call. I was noticing that many of these songs are edited together from multiple takes. The camera is always on the right soloist, which is much better than most ”libe" music shows of the time, which were lio-synced Nd often just one take.

at 3:25 did the MC call Freddie King "honey"? haha, this show is even that much more cool. love it.
Hoss called everyone Honey. That was a term of endearment he used often back then.
Never knew Freddie King played without a pick. How cool!!!
MusicDude86 :) Thank you once again for commenting.
MusicDude86 thumb and finger picks
mrJimCharles Metal ones on his thumb and pointer.
These shows are just marvelous beyond words!
Magic Sam played without them.
1966(50 years ago)I was a little kid when this was out
Incredible great live mix with so much talent!
some great acts on here, carn't turn you loose, otis redding song ?
True gold
bless ur swingin hearts
Television! You’ve been holding out on me!
Man, I dig Freddie King's cool pompydoo.
This was groundbreaking! A white MC with black artists in the mid 60's? Very groundbreaking.
I love FREDDIE!!!!!

yeeeesss!!Amazing!!
freddie and stevie ray are up in playing a gig right now
The irony of fate is that the wonderful Clarence Gatemouth is behind Freddie King, even though he could even give the great Freddie guitar lessons...
1:49 - has that Jackie Wilson sound n flavor
Thank you for posting these! I wonder if there are any photos of this show when they were recording it
If you like SRV, Clapton, Beck, Page (& countless others) -- would they have played the same without KING FREDDIE???
In what part of the USA was this shown? I am 58 yrs. old and The Beat was never shown in western, Michigan.
Dan Taylor Sr. It was shown mostly in the southern U.S. -- it was recorded in Dallas and Nashville.
HI Rachel. I like Jimmy Church but, apart from his appearances on The Beat, I can't seem to find anything by or about him! Can you enlighten me?
Jimmy still plays every Tuesday night Carol Ann Nashville Murfreesboro Rd . still have a band he is my best friend my name is Frank Howard I song with the Commanders was a part of his show talk to him several times each month.

@@16_problems36 p.s. You are singing one of my favourite songs in this episode - Try Me
He has a Jackie Wilson type of influence on this show...or is it just me
They have Gatemouth way too low in the mix, sad....
FREDDY IS B R U T A L . . . .
Far Out
Much as I love Freddie I'll never understand the whole guitar strap on the right shoulder thing 😂
🐢
freddie is god
The trumpets on up tight never hit a right note
We got Wesly snipes on Guitar
Before BLM. Need I say more?
No, and shut up with your political b.s.. The politics d-bag room is down the hall, son.
BB who?
Would love to know what happened to Freddie's ES-355S
Terrible Otis Redding cover lol
