    Great video, thanks for sharing! I also have the new 2025 model. I returned the previous version as it cause chaffing across my shoulders over longer distances, so hoping the new softer material sorts the problem. I did my first run today. So far, so good!

      Nice! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the old model was very scratchy. I've read some reviews mentioning that but the majority of users don't seem to think that. Hopefully the new vest works out for you. So far it's been good for me too 😊 Any significant differences that you prefer on the new one or do you miss any features found on your old vest?

      @@YuennyLam the only thing I wasn't aware of until it arrived was the lack of the stash pocket at the top. I had used the stash pocket a couple of times on the old version, but always felt odd having things resting so high up in the vest that I never used it too much. So it would have been a nice to have as an extra handy spare pocket, but not something that is essential for me. The main thing I need is comfort and no chaffing!!! Especially during long Ultras 🙂

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  4 дня назад +1

      Yeah the big stash pocket at the back would've been nice. Even just to put gloves in. But I agree with you. Comfort is so much more important. I've read that some people had their running tops shredded wearing the old vest 😬

      @ I would definitely love a video about sizing. I used to use the large womens adv skin 12, but I neglected to take into account the weight I’d lose from training (hiked tour du mont blanc in it). It was way too big and I couldn’t synch it closed enough by the time we left. Still loved it and it was the best decision ever. I’m now debating on replacing it with the unisex or womens new version. I’m hesitant because the pictures of the new womens one make it look like its cut higher under the arm pits. I tried the womens active skin 12 and had to return due to high cut. So your video is definitely helpful. Leaning towards the unisex one as well. Do you think the unisex is good for a short torso?

    I returned the previous model for the same reason!! It was SO scratchy, and tremendously hotter than my Camelbak Circuit. I now have a Nathan vest I need to try, but your review is making me want to order the Salomon again!

      It's so disappointing the old model was so scratchy. I looked into the Nathan vest but we don't get that brand here. Can only see them online from US websites. The inside material is now so soft and comfortable 😁

    I have the salomon adv 12 and 8 from last year. Ran 3 ultras with the 12 and had zero problems. The fastening system on salamon bags are the best around, imo. I've tried numerous bags and none compared to salomon. And you can pick up various size salomon packs on vinted for around £70

    The Salomon ADV Skin 12L looks like a great hydration vest. Mine has those clips to secure it which often loosen as you mentioned. It's kind of annoying during really long runs. Definitely worth looking at these kinds with the rope to tighten the vest instead. Great video! Hope the running is going well =D

    Thanks for the comparison - I got a new one in 2025 as well and didn’t realise they had changed them so was looking for the trash/rubbish bag on mine only to realise it was slightly different. SO I compared on the website too - but the differences aren’t obvious (mostly as they are subtracting features rather than adding new features!) - I think it is about 50g lighter though - so maybe thats down to taking bits away and the new materials used?
    I was also looking for the bladder insulation pocket - which is no longer there and the the top stuff pocket you mentioned - as trying to put thing in the main pocket seem doable but probably not as easy the stuff pocket pocket would be. They also removed the little reflective loop on the back that would be useful for attaching red lights (needed for some night ultras) so now there’s no easy way to attach lights either….
    Have considered sending my newer one back for an older one that are now discounted too….(but I quite like the grey and black colour scheme of the new one….!)

    Hi Yuenny. Glad the new vest is working for you. My Saloman Active 8 vest is definitely the best I've used so far. In terms of pockets/closures etc it does appear similar, but doesn't have the clips for the flapping straps. I end up looping them back on itself so not a major issue. I've not had an issue with scratchy material but always have at least a t shirt underneath, so that probably helps. It is only 8L capacity though, so hoping a combination of this and the camelback belt will be enough for UTS25.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 дней назад

      I am glad the new vest seems to be really good. I only had a 5L vest and a belt when I ran the UTS last time, but it was enough for the 25K. I just wish I had more pockets without taking the vest off and would've been nice to have been able to put the poles away whilst on the move. All in all, it worked for that distance. The previous vest was very scratchy around the neck area even when I tried it on with a t-shirt and I've read reviews that some of them have shredded people's running vests. Good your vest doesn't have that issue. I think the Active ones are better. Hope your training for the UTS is going well 😊

    Looks like a nice vest. I haven’t tried vest yet only because I hate wearing things like a pack while running. I typically only wear a belt. I’ve used my Naked Sports Innovations belt so far, but definitely will have to learn ok at a vest too for Ultras. Great video.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  7 дней назад +1

      I never wanted to wear a vest but when I was training for a marathon, I needed a way to carry more water and fuel. A belt would be enough but not when the weather is warm. I don't like stopping to have to buy water so a vest made sense. They work surprisingly well and if you get the right one, they're really comfortable. And yes, when you start taking part in trail events and ultras, a vest is mandatory.

  • @wk633
    @wk633 7 дней назад +2

    I have the old model. Although the material is annoying, I can live with it over a regular shirt. I'd really hate to lose that top stuff pocket. Bouncing has never been an issue for me even with a bunch of mandatory kit.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  7 дней назад

      It is a real shame they removed the back top pocket. Hard decision to make but to me it just had to be the more comfortable material. Some people have said that the old vest shredded their running tops, so I didn't want that to happen either. Are you training for anything at the moment?

      Yes, I've heard about the Saysky Flow 12L after I've decided to go for the ADV Skin. The only thing is that it's quite a bit more expensive than the ADV Skin 12 and it's a relatively new vest so there's not enough information on it for me to justify paying that much more. It's worth considering though because it does look really good.

    • @YuennyLam
      @YuennyLam  6 дней назад

      Thanks for watching 😊 I feel like a 12L is more than enough for the events I'm going to be running, including the 100K this summer. All the ultra marathons I'm interested in are not multi-days and there are plenty of fuel at checkpoints, which means I won't need to carry my own fuel and water for most of the race. I think multi-day races and ones that are less supported by the event would benefit from a 15L vest. Also if you're planning on winter events with a big list of mandatory kit then a 15L would be a better size. What sort of event(s) will you be doing? What sort of distance and how supported are they?

      Thank you for watching and sharing some of the other changes in features. You're right that it seems like they're removing features rather than adding them. I still think it's a real shame about the back stuff and trash pockets. But to me, comfort is more important. I tried the old model wearing a t-shirt and the neck area was just so uncomfortable. Like sandpaper rubbing on my neck.
      Could you order the old one and see if the material bothers you? You could then return one of them. I do prefer the features on the old one and if you can save some money that's always a plus.
